Normalize function: audition vs sound forge

I am a long time sound forge user.  but the changes sony has made to the program between sf8, sf9 and now sf10, have all but destroyed my workflow and have rendered the program useless.
I noticed that I can use the sony DX effects in audition, which is a big help as I get acclimated to audition.  one thing I can't use is sony's normalize function.  they have two different kinds of normalizing--peak and rms--both of which I use, but both of which are inaccessible from inside audition.
I can peak normalize using audition's native function, but I've not yet found a way to duplicate rms normalization.  is there a way to replicate rms normalization in audition?  I'm using ver 1.5 for now.
thanks in advance for your replies...

You get RMS normalization if you use the Group Waveform Normalize
option under Edit.

  • Normalization function & number of decimals

While using the normalization function within Q. Designer to calculate share of markets, I can't seem to be able to set the number of decimals. It sets it automatically to 3 numbers after the comma...
I've tried to make reference to it in a new formula, scaling factor, dimension free, etc..
    Is it normal?
    A.

    Hi Alex,
Seems like it's the original format in BEx, we can't change the number of decimals. It's like the currency code which is always displayed next to the numbers.
Maybe what you can do, it's to change the format in excel or create a workbook.
    Hope this helps.

  • Question on Sound forge pro mac with Logic.

    Hello,
I would liketo know if the plug-ins that come with Sound forge pro Mac could be used with Logic directly like using 3rd party plugins.SF has a whooe bunch of plugins but wil be able to use those plug ins ,like EQ ,Exciter, etc as induvidual plugins on a Logic project without having to export the wav file into Sound Forge?

The answer is No if it's anything like the PC version. The plugins are proprietary and only usable in Sound Forge, just as Logic's are only usable in Logic.
However, I don't know this ti be 100%, true.

  • Sound Forge import issue - no joy

I've read through all of the dissucssions having to do with "unable to decode and import the selected wav/mp3 file" but am still having problems getting any .wav file to import.  I've tried exporting from Sound Forge as both Microsoft PCM and Scotts Sound PCM and I've also tried it as an MP3, but no joy.  I even tried bringing in the file to Adobe's Media Encoder and exporting it as a .wav and .mp3 as well - still no joy.  When I open Windows Sound Recorder - there is no menu - only the ability to record, not the ability to open a file.  Any help would be most appreciated.

  • Cue points with Sound Forge 9.0a?

    Just upgraded from SF 6 to 9 … I haven’t needed
cue points in a long time but it used to be as simple as saving a
WAV file with markers in it. With SF 9 I have an option to save
WAVs with and without meta data. Saving without meta data strips
out the cue points (logical enough, reading the sound file back
into SF 9 confirms the markers are gone) … saving with meta
data creates a file Director 10.1 won’t read (“Having
trouble reading file, Continue?) Has something changed? I’ve
searched here and on the web at large and not seen any mention of
issues between SF 9 and Director. I’ve tried two machines
    with the same result.

Fixed it, sort of… Apparently by default Sound Forge
doesn’t name the cue points at all and Director doesn’t
like this (at least up to MX04, don’t know about 11). To
create wav files with metadata that Director will read:
In Sound Forge navigate to Options > Preferences >
    Labels.
Check the box “label markers”, I also used the
    prefix and leading zero options
Any new markers will now have labels
For my present project I already had 83 cue points accurately
positioned that I didn’t want to remake. In this case I
renamed each cue point by hand, one at a time. Insanely tedious but
better than marking the file again.

  • Switching from Sound Forge Studio

I'm thinking of switching from Sound Forge Studio to Soundtrack Pro for recording/editing our in-house audio training programs. (We provide business development training for the computer consulting industry.)
Can you provide any insight on the pros/cons of doing so?
What kind of learning curve should I expect?
Again with just recording/editing teleseminars, our audio needs are very basic. So do you think it'll be worth it to make the switch?
    Thanks,
    Joshua Feinberg

Not really an answer but something to think about: Soundtrack Pro is not a stand alone application. I believe the only way you can purchase it now is part of the Final Cut Studio 2 package ~$1300. Unless you have need for Final Cut Pro, DVD Studio Pro, Motion and so on, it is a very pricey deal.
Of course you should also understand that it runs only on Macs.
Hopefully you'll get some good answers from the regulars about the capabilities of the program.

  • 1212m... Patchmix... Sound Forge... HOW?

I can't seem to set up patchmix properly to record "What U Hear". I've read the tutorials on the EMU site and they don't seem to help with the newer versions of patchmix. It took me a while to get some noise out of sound forge, and I do mean noise. When I insert the Wave L/R into the strip I just get the sound repeating over itself. It's hard to describe. For ever kick drum that is played, 2 are heard. Then when I go into SF, it's doubled up again. So I can hear 4 kicks for every 1 that SHOULD be heard. So it's unusable noise. When I installed SF on my system with my audigy 2 it works perfectly. No tweaking and poking around needed. I can't believe a consumer card works so well over a "pro" card. It's very annoying. I've spent hours on the net searching for help but nothing seems to help. What I need to do is capture audio from internal sources (movies, streams) edit them in SF and save them for use in Kontakt.
If someone has saved sessions I could download that would be fantastic.
I just don't know how to get this thing up and running properly. It works perfectly with Sonar, no problems. But I need to capture audio with SF.
    I'm using Win7 and Vista (both 64x)
I'd hate to have to use dual booting just to capture sound from my audigy. I just don't think that I should use that card when a better quality card is available to me. I've read that a lot of people have had this problem. I think a mistake was made in patchmix by making this such an elusive setting to attain when a cheap audigy will do it without failure.
    Help would be greatly appreciated.

Yeah it is a bit complicated especially with standard WAVE recording until you figure it out. It is a lot more flexible though and really it's focused on ASIO recording where the complexity can actually be a blessing. What strip are you inserting the WAVE L/R into because that's the most likely problem? Also I think one of the session presets might already be setup for what you are trying to do.
edit: a screencapture of patchmix would be make it easier to diagnose the issue.

  • Can I have a mouse-over function to play sound?

    Hello all,
I have a flash graphic here www.stainlessrhino.com top left
corner. What I would like is for the graphic to play (soundless as
it does now) when the page is loaded, however, if the user mouse
over the swf a sound would play once. How would I accomplish this?
    Is it possible?
    Thank you!

There are several ways to do this. The easiest way is to
attach the sound to the graphic. Do this by editing the object you
want, create a layer called sounds. Click on the first frame you
want the sound to play in, press F6 to create a keyframe. Click in
that keyframe and look in the Properties window. In the box labeled
"Sound:" (go figure) you select the sound you want to play.
If you are using a roll-over listener you can use the
Sound.play() method to play the sound in the function. AS3.0
    example:
    myGraphic.addEventListener(MouseEvent.ROLL_OVER,
    myOverFunction);
    function myOverFunction(event:MouseEvent):void{
    play.sound(mySound);
I recommend searching for "Playing Sounds" in the help
    documentation (F1).

  • Adobe After Effects importiert nicht in Adobe Premiere Pro durch Adobe Audition bearbeiteten Sound

    Hallo liebe Community,

  • Audition CC Sound Help

I get a little more background noise with my mic (AKG C214) than I would like, I am running off a Presonus 2x2 Audiobox USB preamp.
    Basically my question is:
I've heard from other people to go to Control Panel > Sound > Recording ..... and then adjust my recording level to 1. I have it currently set to 50.
Then they tell me to turn my levels up on my mixer..? But all I have is Mic 1, which I can turn up on my preamp, and then I have "Mixer" which I can set to Input and Payback.. any ideas?

I can see why you're getting confused with all that conflicting advice you're getting.
First off, the best place to adjust your levels is on your Presonus (better called an "Audio Interface by the way--it's a box that combines you mic pre amps and an analogue to digital interface with USB out).  This is adjusting levels while the signal is still analogue (raw out of the mic) and, once right there, you know you're not going to get any digital clipping.  The software level control on your computer is best left as "set and forget"--it's working on the digital signal after the A to D conversion..  In my case I just leave it at 100 (i.e. full up).  The only reason I'd change it would be if I found I was working  with my interface always turned down really low but normally the full up position works for most interfaces.  You want to adjust the levels on the Presonus so you recordings are peaking at around -6dB on Audition's meters (and averaging somewhat lower--note that this is just arbitrary and you can play with this recommendation depending on the dynamic range of the stuff you're recording).
The "mixer" thing is a complete red herring by the way.  Mixer in the context of the Presonus is purely to set up your monitoring to be a good mix of what you're recording and what's already recorded on your computer.
When you say "background noise" are you referring to a general background hiss or to general room noise?  If it's a hiss, turning the software fader in the audio control panel all the way up then turning things down on the Presonus should help a lot.  Many pre amps get noisy when turned up to high levels and, by having your computer at 50% level you're compensating by needlessly turning up the Presonus.
If, however, I'm guessing wrong and it's general room noise you're worried about, changing the levels you record won't help--the ratio between programme material and the background stays the same whatever level you record at.  The solution there would be to get closer to the mic and/or get the mic farther from the noise source.  Also, make sure the back of the mic is directly towards the noise source--there's far less pick up from the back.
    Hope some of this helps!

  • What's wrong with a multi-functional audition?

Nobody wants to pay for a multi-functional software when they're only going to use a portion of that functionality for the work they do.  But if making it multi-functional means that the program endures and continues to evolve, then why not just do the math (ie decide if the price of an upgrade is worth it) and ignore the bits you don't use?  For instance, I would describe myself as a 10% user of Audition - I reckon I use about 10% of what it has to offer - but I'm happy to have that other functionality on board as long as I can do what I want to do.  However, recently I've started using MIDI, and that's why I'd be happy if Audition had MIDI functionality.  More recently still, I've started getting involved in video, and so I'm happy that Adobe's treating Audition as a software for video editors.  And those two instances seem to be occasions on which the program offered something I was moving into, which *might* be an argument for 'Audition's good even if it does do stuff you're not yourself the least bit interested in  - somebody's gonna benefit from this, even if it isn't me.'  Somewhat selfless - yeah, I realize that. But if you can think of a better forum to have this discussion in, then take it there.

I am not sure if I follow you completely on your work-around.
Everything I have to say on this topic is based on obesrvations and threads I have read on Info-LabVIEW. Therefore it is subject to corecttion by those who know better.
LV is smart enough to know when "something" that had been opened, can be closed. It is not perfect.
If for instance you open a VISA refnum and pass the refnum  to a LV2 AS A REFNUM the refnum in the LV2 stay alive as long as the VI's are running.
If you start another VI that uses the LV2 to fetch the refnum, it should get a valid ref as long as it starts before the first goes idle.
You then be able to work with refnum usign the VI launched second as long as stays active.
I often create action engine that can be invoked where required throughout an application. If the action engines get a ref in one state (like init) and use it another, I will generally write a "tester" that calls the action engine action to test the engine. In this case, my "tester" stays live and it keeps the ref's fresh.
I suspect if you tried to trick LV you could. If you type cast the ref nums to I32 and stored those in a LV2, I could see how LV could loose track of the resource sharing, but that is something I would avoid.
So I encourage you to do some experimenting with keeping track of who's running when to see if your work-around will work.
If you think you understand it better than I explained it, please post.

  • K8t neo fis2r - core center not functional after installing sound card

Hi.  I had been using Core Center with Dynamic Overclocking enabled and all was well.  When idle, my amd64 3000+ (2.0ghz), was running at 800mhz.  Under load it would go up to 2100mhz.  But yesterday, I installed an Auzentech x-plosion sound card and after i installed the driver, the dynamic overclocking stopped working, my cpu is running at max all the time.  (The variable fan speed function still works).
I checked the IRQ and there is no conflict, I uninstalled the amd64 driver and core center and reinstalled.  Still does not work.  I uninstalled the auzentech driver, rebooted, and cancelled new hardware wizard.  Then the variable cpu frequency feature worked.  Once I install the driver for the auzentech, dynamic oc stops working.  I was thinking to try another pci slot but it appears to be a software issue rather than a hardware issue.  The new version of Core Center does not work with my board even though msi says it's compatible so I'm still using the one that always worked.  The amd driver is the latest and also always worked.
Has anyone else had a similar problem, perhaps using the auzentech sound card with this board and Core Center?  Or does anyone have any suggestions?
    Thanks!

Hey guys, I just went to AMDs site to get the dashboard utility mentioned and in the readme, it stated that in XP, the power option needs to be set to portable/laptop.  But in the past, I read that it needed to be set to "always on" and that it is, in fact, what I had it set to before when cool n quiet was working.  Now I change it to "portable/laptop" and it works and set to "always on" doesn't work anymore.  So now Core Center reports I'm at 33c @800mhz at no load.   I don't get it???  I'll have to try an alternate utility just to verify that is indeed working.
btw, QV, I checked system properties, (right-click my computer > properties, or "system" in control panel) and on the "general" tab, it indicates an AMD64 3000+, 2.0GHz.  But I'm pretty certain the clock frequency is dropping now as reported by core center because of the decrease in the cpu temp at idle.  Am I looking in the right place in XP?  I have XP pro, SP2
Again, thanks for the input and Happy New Year

  • Question for GR IR functionality - audit requirement (three-way) match

    Hello,
I have a question in regards to three way match functionality in SAP (matching of PO, GR and IR).  Auditors asked us if  GR-IV indicator is checked for every PO, and for our company this indicator cannot be checked for every PO due to drop shipments, LC terms, etc.  However, AP is ensuring that GR document is posted prior to posting IR for all POs.  In this case, even though GR-IV indicator is not checked at PO item level, does SAP enforce automatic three way matching based on the tolerance key set (DQ and PP), or does SAP not perform three way match since the GR-IV indicator was not set in the first place?
Please share some insight.  Thank you.

    Hi,
As you know three ways match related to PO-GR-IV but in your case you want pay drop shipments and LC terms to vendor where you need two way match which is with PO-IV. The disadvantage in two way match, you never know whether the whole PO amount is delivered or not in your system (in real scenario). For two way match, select those vendors in t.code:XK02 and do not select check box of “GR-Based Inv. Verif.” in Control data segment in Purchasing data view & then save.
Now create a new PO and go for directly invoice verification WRT new PO.
