Normalize Modified Links

I'm using CS on Windows 7.
Is there are way to "normalize" the modified links without having to click Update on the GUI?
I've done it in the past by doing a seach and replace on the IDML file. I would like to be able to modify the status using ExtendScript as it takes quite a while to convert everything to IDML, do the replacement and then convert back to INDD.
Any suggestions on alternative methods are greatly appreciated. Thank-you.

Like this but in Javascript!

  • Check for modified link

Does anyone know a way to script checking for modified links?  I have written some export scripts and would like to add this safety check.  The more scripts I provide our operators the less thinking they do. lol

Take a look at rasterItems and RasterLinkState… Modified is one of these…

  • Random Missing/Modified Links

For the past couple of days I have been experiencing random missing/modified links showing up in preflight.
I am using CS4 on Windows 7... all of the graphics are stored on a shared network, but no one was using them when the issues started.
When I see the missing/modified links error, I relink them and go back to editing the document... within 15-20 min they are back. Until this afternoon, I go to relink them... and they fix themselves *scratches head*
Any ideas what could cause this type of behavior?
Thanks for any help you can offer.

    Possibly a time synch problem.

  • Indd CS5.5 keeps asking to update modified links

Indd CS5.5 keeps asking to update modified links when opening a document, when links have not been modified.. This happens a lot.
    Any guidance gratefully received.

Hi John, thanks for your helpful suggestion.
We've picked up on some small nuances in the last 24 hours. There are two of us here in the studio and the documents and links are saved on a shared drive.
    • When I open the document on my machine and update all the links, then close it and then open it again – without my colleague opening it – it doesn't ask to update the links.
    • However, if he opens it after I've opened it, it will ask to have it's links updated again. And if I open it after he has opened it, it again will ask to update the links.
*Idea* could it be that one of the machine's clock settings are incorrect. ie. my colleague's new laptop?
Screen grabs are attached below. The go in the order of before and after.
The plot thickens: I have also loaded this software on to an iMac out side of the office; not connected to the server, just running on its own. I have some images on an external hard drive. I have exactly the same problem if I unplug it and re-plug it. When I re-plug it doesn't just simply find the links, it says they have been updated.
Any more ideas would be appreciated.
    Best regards.

  • Despite best efforts, cannot modify link colors in iWeb

I am having issues with changing the colors of my hyperlinks in iWeb. Specifically, I having this problem while working with the "Welcome" page in the "Modern" style template.
After searching through this forum, I followed advice to check out http://www.rowan-cottage.co.uk/Site/CSS%20in%20iWeb.html for tips on modifying the CSS and changing the hyperlink colors. While I was able to edit the .css file and change the unfollowed link colors to blue as planned, the followed link colors unexpectly changed to a strange purple color. Hovering was the same purple, but clicking the link and not releasing the mouse resulted in the link turning red (the default color) even after I had edited the .css file so that hover and followed links were to also be the same blue.
I reloaded the page several times, I reset Safari, I looked at the page with Opera, Firefox, and IE, and it looked the same way in all browsers.
Does anyone know what is going on here? Is there some sort of communication going on behind the scene that I am not seeing (such as, if unfollowed link = blue, then followed link = purple)? Do I need to edit the XML file? How?
    Advice appreciated! Thanks!

    Okay, that was yesterday.
Today the problem is not repeating.
I have no idea what happened, but I as long as the problem is presently gone, I'm happy.

  • Modify links in HTML_Panel as it loads

When loading an outside URL similar to the wikipedia example
in the HTML_Panel demo, the html that loads contains links
referencing the original source. So all the links in the wiki
    example contain /wiki/link instead of
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/link.
Is there a way to modify the html after the html_panel is loaded to
    replace all the <a href="/wiki/ with <a href="
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/
This would be a string replacement after the block loads. I
can't seem to figure out how to attach such a function on the block
after it is loaded. This would be very useful when loading HTML
from other websites, to keep their links pointing to the original
    source.

What u could do is add an observer to your html panel that
monitors the onPostUpdate. On each update loop through your
<a> tags (could be done with
document.getElementsByTagName('a') ) check if they start with
/wiki/ if it does, just replace or change the href.

  • Modifying Link Wizard Screen

How would I go about modifying the Link Wizard screen which comes up if a user tries to create a hyperlink in contribution mode to a contribution file? I would like to add another Category which will link documents using "resource" ie: [!--wcmLink('resource','MYCONTENTID')--]. Again I don't know if this is a good way to link to a file or not...but the problem is when I changed the security model to add Accounts...most of our links got broken. So I wanted to take a more programatical approach to defiining links such as using Idoc Scripting of some sort....[!--wcmLink('Link','MYCONTENTID')--] can also be used, but then this doesn't work on PDFs that are converted using IBR. Please help! Thanks.

    HI Kudan,
Download the par file com.sap.portal.runtime.logon.par.bak from
Go to System Administration -- Support -- Portal Runtime -- Browse Deployment.
The path should ROOT/WEB-INF/deployment/pcd. Now download that file into local system.
Create a Par project and make necessary changes ..i.e
Open the downloaded par file with WinZip and inside the lib folder three jar files named com.sap.
portal.runtime.logon_api.jar, com.sap.portal.runtime.logon_core.jar and umelogonbase.jar will be there. Copy those files in the folder u2018libu2019 in par project.
    Now change a branding Image...i.e
you can see an image with the name "dist\layout\*branding-text.gif*"
This branding-text.gif is the image you need to change. So you can replace it with your own image.
Be careful while changing Logon par file. Take a copy of it and do the necessary changes.
Once modifications are done, then create a par project and upload the par file into portal.
Go to the path System Administration -- Support -- Support Desk -- Portal Runtime -- Administration console.
then browse the file and click on upload.
Connect to server where the Portal WebAS is running and go to:
    (drive):\usr\sap\<system id>\<system instance>\j2ee\cluster\server0\apps\sap.com\com.sap.security.core.admin\servlet_jsp\logon\root\layout.
There you will find the images used on logon screen, you can replace them for your
company images, please take care with the width of the images, as usual, to make this
change effective, you must restart the whole WebAS.

  • Why does InDesign CS5 modify linked PSDs with each Save?

I'm using Creative Suite CS5, Mac OS 10.6.6. Wondering if anyone else has experienced this, and how is it fixed?
Every time I save an InDesign document with a linked PSD file, the PSD file's modification date changes as well, which in turn shows up in InDesign as a link that needs updating. After I update the link in InDesign and Save, that psd file's modification date changes again, and it shows up again as a link that needs updating. There seems to be no limit to the cycle, and it isn't specific to any particular file...happens in every similar scenario.
    This is makin' me dizzy!

This is caused by a bug in a Suitcase update. Extensis issued another patch almost immediately.

  • Keyboard shortcuts modifying link opening broken

Safari is able to open links in new tabs of windows in front of or behind the current one when the user holds a combination of cmnd, alt and shft. (The action is updated dynamically in the status bar.)
However, this stopped working for me at some point during my use of Safari under Panther, and continues to be broken with Safari 2.x under Tiger.
If I login as another 'vanilla' user it works. So, I assume it is something I installed at some point in my account. The most likely culprit was Saft, but disabling that made no difference.
So, is anyone aware what may cause this (very useful) functionality to break?

  • Modify link to not reference a drive letter

    Hi,
I am trying to edit a link in a pdf (to another PDF) where these files reside on a CD. Given that many people have a different drive designation on their computers I wanted the link to be something like:
    \\pdf\map.pdf.
    Any thoughts?
I am using Window XP Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional.
    Thank,
    Cindy

    Hi David,
If you want to create and Mount VHD automatically, please check the powershell function CreateVHD and MountVHD in this article:
    function CreateVHD ($VHDPath, $Size)
    $drive = (New-VHD -path $vhdpath -SizeBytes $size -Dynamic | `
    Mount-VHD -Passthru | `
    get-disk -number {$_.DiskNumber} | `
    Initialize-Disk -PartitionStyle MBR -PassThru | `
    New-Partition -UseMaximumSize -AssignDriveLetter:$False -MbrType IFS | `
    Format-Volume -Confirm:$false -FileSystem NTFS -force | `
    get-partition | `
    Add-PartitionAccessPath -AssignDriveLetter -PassThru | `
    get-volume).DriveLetter
    Dismount-VHD $VHDPath
    function MountVHD ($VHDPath)
    Mount-VHD $VHDPath
    $drive = (Get-DiskImage -ImagePath $VHDPath | `
    Get-Disk | `
    Get-Partition).DriveLetter
    "$($drive):\"
Get-PSDrive | Out-Null # Work around. some times the drive is not mounted
    Refer to:
    Creating Data VHD using PowerShell
You can also assign driveletter via powershell.
To mount a dismounted VHD, you will get the drive letter:

  • Modifying linked images

    Hi all,
I'm making a booklet (in InDesign) that will have a few pages filled with collage-type visuals that I'm planning on making in PS. I'll be using a few low-res images that a photographer has given me but hasn't yet retouched, converted to high-res nor color profiled - but he will need to see my collages before being able to retouch them. I was wondering if there was a way to relink placed images in PS the way you can in Illustrator, but after rasterizing the images (since I'll be needing to lasso-cut into them to make the collage happen)?
Basically, what I'm doing right now is creating a canvas, placing two JPG images saved as TIF for testing, selecting "Edit Content" and cutting into them with the lasso, saving and switching back to my canvas. The modification is applied and correct, but when I select "Replace Content" and choose the same test file from its original source place (as I would do when the photog hands me over the retouched image), the relink removes the data I've just created and just inserts the full-sized image, thus destroying my "collage".
    What am I missing here?
    Thanks in advance.

    Using CS5 but I doubt it's OS-related
Probably, the OS is irrelevent. But that's not definite. A given version of Ps on Windows and the same version on OS X have some different bugs. I don't understand why you didn't just type the requested information in as few words as it took to type "but I doubt it's OS-related".
Anyway, Photoshop does have problems with SO masks not transforming correctly when a SO is transformed. I thought your replacement images would have the same physical dimensions (inches) as the original and only differ in resolution (ppi), and therefore didn't realize that you'd be wanting to scale the SOs.
I suggest you resize each replacement image to the same physical dimensions as the corresponding original before doing the replacement.

  • Remove Recently Modified text and links

I am new to CSS.  Here are the instructions I am using to remove recently modified text and links below it:
Type in the CSS code below in red into Notepad without the quotes. Save the file.
    “<style> .s4-recentchanges{ DISPLAY:none; } </style>”
Upload to file to your SharePoint site. Copy the link of the file.
Go to Edit mode of the page where you want the “Recently Modified” link to disappear.
Add a Content Editor webpart (under Media and Content) on the page.
    Edit the webpart.
In the Content Link box, paste the URL you copied in 2) above.
    Under Chrome Type, select None.
    Click OK.
I created the file but am not sure where do I upload the file (site assets, etc).  This should have an .css extension. Does this webpart go at the top or bottom of the page.
    d.bell

Open master page through SPD. Goto code view. then under “head ” tag put the following css:
    <style type="text/css">
    .s4-recentchanges
    display:none;
    </style>
Link will not show now in  page

  • Copying images from a server linked to InDesign document?

I have a issue where I have images on a windows server in a "hold folder", when I finish with my images I move them to a "done folder" on the same volume. If my InDesign 5.5 document(mac) is open those images move to the "done folder", but also leave a ghost file with the same name with 0k. InDesign still see these file as if they are still in the "hold folder". I'm thinking that InDesign has a hold or is accessing the image links when its being copied and locking the image file. How often does InDesign check for modified links?

Links in ID use absolute paths. If the time stamp or file size is different from what is stored in the file for each link it would be condidered modified. If the file is no longer at that location it would be listed as missing. When you open a file ID checks the links (if your prefs are set to do so) and reports modified links and missing links. If a link is missing in the specified location, ID will also search the folder where the .indd file is stored and any subfolders. Having a 0byte file at the old location would be a problem.
The best way to handle this is probably to use File > Package to move copies of everything to the new location. ID updates the links at the same time. You can then delete the original files to avoid duplication.

  • Re-link Assets and Place Assets Folder Navigation

Can you PLEASE fix the bug in Muse that causes the folder to reset (don't know if I'm explaining this clearly) when re-linking assets, and placing assets. To clarify, when I re-link an asset in Adobe Muse it defaults to 'My Computer' instead of the last folder used. This is occasionally happening when placing assets as well. It is EXTREMELY frustrating, and VERY disruptive to the workflow having to navigate to the same folder OVER and OVER and OVER. Indesign does not have this issue, can you not have this work in the same manner? (Actually until an dAdobe Air update last year this was not an issue.) It need s to be fixed IMMEDIATELY, before any new 'paralax scrolling' or such is introduced.
Thank You and I hope I can garner support from other users on this issue.

Here's how ID works with links:
First, the links in the file are absolute paths, meaning they refer to a particular location. If that location is acessible, ID will find the link and all is well. If the location is not acessible (on your colleague's hard drive, for example) ID will look for the links first in the current folder from which the .indd file was opened, and if nothing is found there, in any subfolders.
But why are you both relinking? Do you both need to work with the links for output? Since CS4 there has been a Preference under File Handling that allows you to choose whether or not to find and update links when opening files, and it seems most likely to me that one of you should be ignoring missing and modified links and jut getting to work.

  • Video and audio linking problem, and others?

So, I am having 2 main problems. When I first started using FCE everything was great. Then, I changed some settings, and for some reason, it doesn't work like I want it to. So, my first problem is linking. When I import, it is automatically unlinked, but I think FCE thinks that it is! When I do press Apple L (shortcut to link video and audio) it still isn't linked! How can I get it to link?
My 2nd problem may be linked to the first. When I want to make a cut right on the playhead, it is really hard to get it on the playhead. Previously, it would just snap on the playhead if I got close, and now it doesn't! How can I get it to snap better?
    Thanks for all the help!

    1) Make sure linking (Shift-L) is turned on before you add your clip to the timeline. To manually link audio tracks to your video tracks select the two and go to +Modify > Link+ (Command-L).
    2) Make sure snapping is turned on in the timeline. Hit the "N" key to toggle it on or off.
