Norrow images in project

Frankly I'm new to Element. I have v 8.0 (sat on my floor a while) and just loaded it. I'm trying to pull in video files that I took with my Canon FS300, but when I do, they appear in what I believe is 4:3 versus the 16:9 and the images are narrow on the screen. When I open the files with my Canon associated Pixela Video Editing Tool, the images appear i correct proporation in wide screen format, but when I open the same files with Element in a project they're narrow. Any ideas what to do?

Welcome to the forum.
Along with Steve's comments and suggestions, you can determine exactly how your Video was shot with either G-SPOT, or MediaInfo, both of which are free, and both are very useful untilities to have around.
With 16:9 footage, there is a flag in the media's header, to tell the program how the Video was shot. Should the program miss that flag, one can force it, with Interpret Footage.

Best practice for moving images between projects?

Hey all,
I have a project that has an album inside of it. I want to move the album, containing all of the photographs to a new project. If I drag the photos individually to the new project it moves them successfully although they now don't belong to an album in their new project. If I drag the album itself it moves the album and photographs but leaves the photos in the original project as well.
Does anyone have some best practice ideas for this scenario?

As you have discovered if the drop target is the project the images move projects. If the drop target is an album the images show up in the album but do not actually move anywhere. Moving albums does nothing to move masters. So...
Select all of the images in the album. Drag them to the new project and then drag the album to the new project. Simple enough.

Is Flex the answer for our Remote image viewer project

My company has a new project and I am trying to figure out if
Flex (in conjunction perhaps with AIR) would be the best platform
to do this on. I am not a Flex developer...I have a ColdFusion
background, so I need your help to decide if we should go looking
for a Flex Guru.
We need to grade digital papers remotely. The idea is that a
grader would launch this application and login. Then the system
would display a paper (a scanned image) on the screen and the
person would enter a score. The system would interface with the
backend via ColdFusion CFCs to a SQL server.
Features we would like:
1. The image pane would allow zooming of the image in case
some text was hard to read. Ideally it would allow real-time
brightness and contrast also, but perhaps that is asking too much.
2. If the paper was multiple pages (it could be), then the
application would have an area which showed thumbsnails of each
page. The grader could click on the thumbnail to skip to other
pages.
3. I don't know about Flex/AIR security, but the entire
session would have to encrypted (SSL). Security is important on
this project. Can Flex/AIR be configured to stop/prevent screen
capture?
4. Is flex capable of good keyboard handling? We would like
to offer keyboard shortcuts for everything. If the grader types a
number, then we want to assume they are scoring the paper. If they
use the arrow keys, we want to flip between pages, etc.
5. Can it handle image caching? Performance will be
important. So while the grade is looking at page one, we would want
to be downloading any additional pages in the background if the
paper was multi-page. Then once they flip to the next page it is
instantaneous.
Any help would be appreciated. We are just starting to
research this project, and it looks like Flex/IR could be a strong
solution...but I am ignorant as to many of the capabilities.

Thank you both for you answers. We will keep digging on a
Flex/AIR solution to this problem, as it seems pretty viable.
picnik looks to have a lot of the functions we need. Of
course we would need to leverage those functions in our own app. I
had come across the fig_panzoom thing...that looked very promising.
Could the image container dynamically size based on the size of the
application window? Since this would probably be a desktop AIR app,
the user could size it depending on their needs. Ideally the image
container would then also size accordingly (as a percentage of the
window). By not have a fixed size image container, a user with a
larger/higher res screen could see more of the image than someone
with a smaller one.
For the image capture issue, I have seen some cases where I
am not able to easily take a screenshot of a flash applet. I have
tried to take screenshots and the flash area I am trying to capture
shows up as a black box. I don't know if this is an active
protection or just a fluke in my capture attempts. Ideally we would
want to try to prevent screen capture of our AIR app. I will take
that issue to the AIR forums I guess.

All images in Project not showing up

I have 2000 images in a project but for some reason I can only get one subset of them [89 images] to show up. I have checked to show all, I've gone into smart albums and they all show up but only 89 show up when I want to open the entire project...This is true in the maximized viewer and also in list view. I deleted the plist and reopened and it's still happening. I wanted to avoid a full rebuild of the Library [not sure how to rebuild only a project] if possible. I just want to be able to see and work with all my 2000 images in that project, not just the subset. Thanks.

What firstlaunch said and also did you make any Folders within a Folder? If so the other photos will not show up by design because a Folder within a Folder will force a separation of the images — this is a good thing because sometimes you may not want clients to see what other clients have within projects/jobs.

NO images in Project that just had images in it

i am organizing my folder-project organization in aperture and i am simply moving PROJECTS from the parent level into a FOLDER. if i look at the PROJECT initially i am seeing images in this project (it is how i know where i want to put the Project organizationally in terms of putting it in one or another folder) BUT when i put it in a Folder i don't see any images when i click on this.
i had been thinking this was sort of a temporary glitch or something to do with RAM being used by another program but now i am getting a bit worried about this.
about two weeks ago i was seeing the wrong thumbnail image on an image (maybe the image was in a Project that was a shoot of dogs and one or two or five of the images would show cars on the thumbnail) even though when i clicked on the image it came up large size with the correct image.
anyway, i thought i rebuilt the library per instructions on this from kirby.
do i need to do this again? close aperture and re-open?
start looking behind my monitor or under my desk.......

i am back working today and i am still seeing this behaviour. if i drag an album from a folder and put it into another folder i no longer see images/thumbnails whereas i did see them before.
i have looked just now in the filter entry area (thanks for the screenshot...) and i am not seeing anything listed in here. One says "All Items" and the other says "Unrated or Better".
i just moved another Album to an existing folder, lost all thumbnail images (nothing shown in list view either) and - then to test i dragged it back to the original folder.
hmmm.
now i am noticing that there is a cycling symbol at the bottom of the Aperture window....
is it possible that there is something going on here (too many images in the album) or some kind of CPU logjam that is causing me not to see images as described? it is seems like something i need to figure out and is sort of disconcerting at the moment.
maybe i the best way to test this by waiting for the cycling to stop i suppose - now that i have noticed this...

How to export images with Project Name to be visable by Photo Mechanic.

I am trying to create another complete set of my images, that can be edited by outside programs (Photo Mechanic and/or Lightroom). I am doing this by exporting the images out of a managed library. I want the Aperture "*Project name*" and Rating fields to be passed to Photo Mechanic. And then I want PM to be able to do queries on the Metadata fields containing the Aperture Project Name and Rating. My intention is to use Photo Mechanic to rename the images and relocate the images but still keep track of the Rating and Project Name.
In Aperture, when I add a custom metadata item under IPTC and export the image, that custom metadata item does not show up in PM or Bridge for that matter.
How can I export images and have the Rating and *Project Name* be exported and visible in PM or LR or Bridge?

There is not an easy way but Ian Wood's tool might help you out.
Personally I would just use the "subfolder format" drop down options available in all of the export and relocate dialogs to sort them into directories that are based on Aperture project name - easy enough considering those other tools use file system based folders for there organization structure anyway.

Quality of image after projecting an image on a ball service

I am working on a 3DJava Applet which shows a ball that rotates. The user can select a location on the ball and then an image will need to be added to the ball.
The image is a blue cicle which contains a green letter with a black border (GIF formatted image). I can correctly project the letter on the ball but the quality of the image becomes terrible i.e. very pixellated.
How can I add this image to the ball without getting into quality problems? I tried for 2 weeks and wasn't able to find anything to solve the issue. Who can help or who has a sample code?

Don`t know what to suggest, sorry. It may be that the ColorSpace converts java does internally don`t favour your graphic. Is there a chance you can post the effect somewhere so I can take a look?

Photoshop Elements 9 Editor not showing images in Project Bin

Yesterday I went though my PE9 Organiser and rearrange some of my files and made sure that it was more user friendly.
Today I went in to try and do some edits and not all of the folders are showing up in PE9 Project Bin. I can view some images, but not all images. I know that I can view some images that I move yesterday, but there are some that weren't moved that I can't see and some that I didn't move that i can't see.
When i go to my Organiser I can see that the images are tagged and in the folders - why can't PE9 Editor show them to me?

Cannot see images in Project

OK, I just finished up importing all my images that were stored on DVD's into separate projects in Aperture. Now I am working on the tedious task of going thru and keywording the images, ranking them, etc,,,
Anyway, in one of my projects (DVD02) none of the images appear. I know they were imported, (In finder, I can view the contents of the Library, and then the DVD02 folder) So why aren't they showing up in the browser?

You haven't by accident typed anything into the search field next to the Query HUD in the Browser? (if you don't know where it is, see page 296 in the user manual).

Missing Images in Project

I have a project which does not show any images. The images are definitely in there as I opened the package and opened a raw file. The image displays in Preview just fine. I then rebuilt the Aperture Library by holding down option-command during startup. Rebuild works without errors. Pictures still don't show up. Any suggestions?

Images in project

Hello All.
I am glad that RoboHelp 7 is just about here. But anyway.
I have RoboHelp 5 and generate WebHelp.
I have a project that contains hundreds of images.
All but 3 are being created into the WebHelp folders.
Any idea why just these three are being left out?
I have added images since, in the same manner, and they
display in the output.

Try importing a copy of each "missing" image from a directory
OUTside the project directory. (Please forgive the shouting.)
RH may tell you the image is already in the project, do you
want to overwrite it? Say Yes.
Two other possibilities:
Do the file names have any nonstandard characters? Underscore
and hyphen are OK, but not spaces or symbols.
What extension -- .gif, .jpg, etc. -- is at the end of the
filenames? I have seen erratic results for .bmp and .png files. I
think a .png must be flattened to one layer; there's some
discussion of this on the forum.

IMovie won't replace existing images in Project with new ones?

I have created a project which contains still images. When I select "replace" with a new image, no change occurs or the thumbnail shows an image which was inserted earlier. "Insert" nothing. It worked prior to the latest "updates" installed on my MacBook Pro. Why doesn't this work! Going CRAZY!

This is a known behaviour. When you publish the new version of the workflow, the previous version is still available because there might be some workflows executing in lists and libraries on this version. But you can remove the previous versions so that
they are not available for the users to starts. Go to List/Library > Settings > Workflow Settings.
You will see all the previously published versions of the workflow. Here it shows the version of the workflows with Allow, No New Instance or Remove options. By default, previous version workflow should change to "No new instance" so users cannot
start this manually. If this does not happen then this workflow will be available for users to start as in your case. If no instances of previous version are running, then select remove, and click Ok. Hope it clarifies.

Quicktime - double image when projecting to screen

Hello, I am trying to project a Quicktime video to a pull-down screen. I select "full screen" from the QT View menu, and am sending to the 2nd monitor output, but I get two images rather than one big image on the screen.
What do I need to do to fix this?
The screen is about 75 inches x 45 inches.

I have tried fit to screen, fill screen, etc - I still get the 2 smallish images, and the left one is cut off a bit.

Save the image into a folder that is accessible online (anywhere but under WEB-INF) and create an IMG tag in your JSP poiting to that image.

Imovie imports different image into project

I'm trying to create a slideshow using only jpg images. Sometimes (now frequently) when I drag a picture into the slideshow from iphoto, desktop, Adobe Bridge, or even straight out of downloads, the image that actually shows up in imovie is a previously used picture. Sometimes the correct image shows up in the strip, but a different photo shows up in the preview window.
I spent several hours at the Genius Bar yesterday and we dumped a plist and rebuilt the entire iphoto library.
I've got to say that after having imovie closed all night, I reopened it this morning and was able to import correct images into the correct positions on my project, but then it started acting up again (after I cancelled my Genius bar appointment for today!), and is again putting different pictures into the project than I am actually trying to put into the project.
I litterally just need to get about 5 more images into the project!

I didn't film the video, so I'm not sure what kind of camera was used.

And here is a bit more information about my situation: The video plays fine off of the thumb drive it was given to me on, and it plays fine off of my hard drive. But when I import the video into iMovie, all I see is the one still video shot while the audio plays beneath it. I've tried this on two different computers and on both of them, the video is frozen once it's imported into iMovie.
Bizarre.
