Dr. Smoke-why Norton Antivirus?

(I hope Dr. Smoke gets this) I was reading in your profile that you have Norton Antivirus 10 on your PM G5. I'm supposed to be the "knower of all computer knowledge" here at my work although technically I'm a graphic artist that's been assigned computer detail. I work at a small business (8 graphic artists all using Macs) where we are all hooked up to a network. We have no virus software on our system. I keep reading about how the Mac world is having increased virus attacks. Should I be putting anti virus on our computers? Is Norton the way to go now? I've also read that Norton is a bad thing for Macs. Have they worked through their problems? Show me the way, o great one! :~D

AJ did an excellent job pinch-hitting for me earlier today: our experiences seem identical. I use Norton AntiVirus because I have for years and not had problems with it.
Norton Utilities and Norton SystemWorks are not available for Tiger. The products have ceased development. However, Norton AntiVirus 10 (NAV 10, or NAV for short) is available for Tiger.
Some folks will probably jump on this thread at some point and post to tell you:
• You don't need antivirus software.
• You don't want to use NAV.
• etc.
I think you're wise to consider it. Better to be prepared, especially against known threats.
While there has not been a virus written for Mac OS X, there are a number of related types of threats: Trojans, root kits, etc. You can review my "Detecting and avoiding malware and spyware" FAQ for my recommendations as well as a list of some recent Mac OS X security threats that have emerged.
Since you've got eight Macs and the network to protect, you might want to look at a small business license to see if that will provide a better deal vs. individual licenses. Check the Symantec Web site concerning their Small Business offerings of Norton AntiVirus 10 for Macintosh. They show a five-user pack here, though you may want to call them to discuss other licensing options.

Norton Antivirus 12 and Mac OS 10.7.2

I am having trouble with Norton Antivirus 12 on my iMac using Mac OS 10.7.2. When I open the program the Automatic Protection keys are turned off. They

Norton has a very bad reputation here (thus Barney's response). I have no personal experience with it, but at the same time see no purpose whatsoever in having something like Norton installed. See my Mac Malware Guide for more information. If, after reading that, you still want or need AV software, get a copy of ClamXav.

I updated and couldn't connect, but I found my culprit, Norton Antivirus.

Three weeks ago I updated my i-tunes to the new 6.03 version and I couldn't to the music store since then. Today i got on the support and services web page and keyed my problem. They said, among other things, to make sure there aren't any third party virus scan programs on your computer. So I disabled Norton Antivirus fro half an hour and now it works.

I think I have the exact same problem. I've discabled Norton Antivirus too and reinstalled and tried to use itunes but it didn't work. You said you disable for 30 minutes. After that what did you do. When you launched itunes and it went directly to the music store did you get connected right away or did you have to wait for a while in that 30 minute disable period?? Thanks!

I am having to reinstall Adobe Pro because of a hard drive failure. I have lost the License Key and need to know how to retrieve it so I can reinstall the product.

How do I retrieve the Adobe Pro License key/# so I can reinstall on my computer. I had to have the hard drive replaced due to failure and don't have the necessary information to reinstall Adobe Pro.

As this was a 1,000 USD + purchase I did registered back in 2008 when I got my copy of "Adobe Creative Suite 3 Design Premium". And now I'm in the same situation as you. I did go to manage my account and found my serial number.
My disk crashed completely and I got everything back and running from my Time Machine backup. A few days ago Illustrator said there was a licensing issue. I tried all their gradual solutions up to the very last one: Reinstalling.
I did that and inserted the Serial number; it worked. Now that I'm opening the Adobe Acrobat Pro it requires me to input the serial and it says is invalid!
Anyone has an idea about this?

How do I enter CS6 license key when Adobe Application Manager immediately tries to authenticate against my expired Creative Cloud membership?

I have CS6 Master Suite installed along side my now-expired Creative Cloud apps (I am evaluating whether to renew my subscription at this time). Both CS6 and Creative Cloud are currently unlicensed due to a snafu with my educational license, but I have a new CS6 license that I am trying to register CS6 with. However, upon launching any CS6 program, Adobe Application Manager then launches and tells me that my Creative Cloud membership is now expired. How/where to I enter my CS6 license key? I have already tried entering my new license on my Adobe account profile > “My products and services”, and reinstalled CS6 applications from my original disk image (MasterCollection_CS6_LS16.dmg).

Figured this one out from another thread, after which I was able to sign in again with my Adobe ID and my software was ready to use:
Windows:
Delete these folders
SLStore from C:\ProgramData\Adobe
SLCache from C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe
OOBE from C:\Users\(Your Username)\AppData\Local\Adobe
Mac:
Delete SLStore and SLCache from /Library/Application Support/Adobe
Delete OOBE from ~/Library/Application Support/Adobe

1st the sata drive cannot be listed as a slave drive to the ide master [key word=ide-can be configured as master OR slave, master IF only 1 hd, master and slave IF 2 hds], on the sata controler you can have master and slave, the ide cable has two connectors for the hds, sata has only 1 hd connector.
are you wanting to install the sata as primary master and move the operating sys to that drive, if so you will need an IMAGING software to move an operating system OR you could do a fresh operating system install to the sata drive then install your programs.

ASA 5505 Failure replaced and need to move the license key?

Can someone point me in the right direction? My ASA 5505 died due to a power surge and I swapped it with a spare. I had Security Plus and a 50 user license and need to move the license keys from the failed ASA 5505 to the new one. I kept both my emails with the activation keys, but not sure how I get this transferred? Thanks in advance.

I think this is totally unacceptable. For anyone else who uses a 5505 at home and has bought licenses and the hardware out of their own pocket, the idea here should be that you've already bought the hardware and the license. Seems obvious, right?
Yes I can see the license being device specific if not only because that's the way you've designed your licensing activation schema; but if I've just had your product fail and bought another replacement, there should be an understanding or agreement between Cisco and the user that we can reinstate any licenses we've already bought.
Do you really believe it's fair to make someone buy something from you twice, something that they've already bought from you? Do you actually believe that? I believe that the people in the Cisco Licensing department would agree with my viewpoint and I have a pending case with them for this issue right now. I will post my result here.
Make your products last and perhaps I can give credence to your licensing beliefs, until then your products fail and so does your licensing logic.

SAP license key error: no valid license found: cannot log into SAP GUI

I deleted temp license from slicense on SM box, since I had already installed new digital license from SAP. Well, later I tried to log in again and was locked out. After some research, I found "sap license check failed" in the log files, java will not come up, and the hardware key has changed on me, so the valid license that was active before is not showing up now.
I applied for a new license with new hardware key and attempted to install from cmd prompt, using saplicense -install ifile=c:license.txt, but it gets an error. I put a trace on it and appears it cannot read license file key. I also tried to install another temp license, but that failed since no other previous valid license was found. At this point, I'm thinking I need to manually insert the license key into the database, but not sure what table or exactly how. SAP has not provided a solution yet.
I believe the hardware key changed due to renaming the server (we took out a hyphen in name) and had also reinstalled afterwards.
Has anyone else run into this issue?

Yes, I wish it were that simple, but I cannot even bring up the logon screen. SAP GUI returns a message, resource temporarily unavailable. I looked in SAP MMC syslog and found several entries, "SAP-Basis System: No license found for hardware ID DLIC_HWIDKE"
I tried to install temp license from cmd prompt, but it says refuses and says no old or expired license found. I also tried to install the new license I applied for from SAP with new hardware key using saplicense -install ifile=license.txt and that failed as well.
For NW2004s, is it even possible to install a digital license using cmd prompt?
