Norwegian dictionary

I am working here on Mail in Norway and the spell checker continually underlines everything in red when I am writing in Norwegian. In english it is fine of course as the dictionary is set to english. There is no norwegian dictionary, even though the program is in Norwegian as is the machine. Can anybody help me with a norwegian dictionary and how to install it?

Apple doesn't provide spell checking for all the languages supported by OSX.
Install CocoAspell and download one or both of the Norwegian dictionaries:

I use InDesign (Creative Cloud) and the English version of the software. This seems to only contain an English dictionary, but I need a Norwegian dictionary. Does Adobe have one to import? When I change dictionary to Norwegian in preferences, nothing happens because it´s empty. Any tips anyone?

InDesign has a Norwegian dictionary. For it to be used, you do not select it in preferences. You apply a language attribute in the Character, or Control panel to text which is written in Norwegian.

Since I'm norwegian, I often write texts and articles in Norwegian on my Mac. I currently have pages, but it bothers me that it always corrects my texts to swedish or english. So my question is, is there a norwegian dictionary for pages that I haven't found yet, and if not, will there ever be?

Firefox 4 requires MacOS X 10.5 or 10.6. Sorry about that. You can update to 3.6.17, but that is the end of the road for MacOS X 10.4.

I would like to add Norwegian spellcheck into my applicatuion using Squiggly.
Are there any resources for .dic and .aff files for Norwegian ?

To reiterate what Ravi said, not all rules required for Norwegian have been implemented in Squiggly yet.
There are three parts to supporting a language in Squiggly:
1) The dictionary file (.dic) which includes a list of valid words with some metadata
2) The language specific rules file (.aff) which specifies the word composition rules for the language to make suggestions
3) The algorighm in Squiggly to interpret the rules specified in the .aff file.
You can get #1 & #2 from the link Ravi specified. What you are missing, is the support for word composition rules that are specific to Norwegian. We home to complete the implementation of all rules over time, but for the time being, you will likely get poor results, especially with the spelling suggestions for misspelled words.

How can I use Norwegian letters (æ ø å)?

Hi, I'm using KDEmod and Arch, but can't get norwegian letters to work! Those letters are æ, ø and å (copied from wikipedia).
I installed the aspell norwegian dictionary, as well as the kdemod norwegian dictionary. In /etc/rc.conf, KEYMAP is set to no-latin1 (no difference if it's set to "no"). I think it's a setting I have to set in KDE, because in Gnome, this works out of the box. Help would be greatly appreciated!

Pages cannot offer spellcheck of Norsk Bokmål (norwegian)

I am disappointed, I just bought and installed iWorks (1000NOK) on my MBP and I deleted Office for Mac. Office for Mac gave me spellcheck for Norsk Bokmål (well, I needed Jalingo to import the Norsk Bokmål dictionary to Office Word). Now, with Pages, when opening a doc in norwegian (norsk bokmål) every word is underlined as being unknown, because Pages cannot recognize norsk bokmål.
My MBP runs OSX 10.6 Snow Leopard. In Systempreferences, Languages, Norsk Bokmål is an option, SO WHY CANNOT NORSK BOKMÅL BE AN OPTION IN PAGES? I check the languages in Inspector but norwegian (both norsk bokmål and nynorsk) is missing, what a shame. I suppose Apple earns a lot of money from the norwegian market (I myself bought iPod classic, Macbook, iPhone3GS, MacbookPro, software and i will buy iPhone4, I spent a lot of money and I love Apple products!) So Apple, can you please ad more languages to Pages, at least ad norsk bokmål. If you have the norwegian dictionary in MacOS X it should be easy for your professional developers.
Is there any other way to import norsk bokmål dictionary to Pages?

In Systempreferences, Languages, Norsk Bokmål is an option
That setting is irrelevant for whether spellchecking available. If you go to system prefs/language & text/text/spelling, you will see there what is possible.

Yes, you can add dictionaries to OS X/Pages either via CocoAspell or using those for OpenOffice 2 (not 3).

Spellcheck problem - language choices

hi there.
I have a Norwegian version of Tiger 10.4 installed and everything seems fine.
One problem I have is when I want to spellcheck thins I create in iWeb and other apps as well. The system don´t find Norwegian spell checker for me, even the orginial installation is in norwegian.
Any tips, or basics I have missed?

Language pack for Nokia 3720c

I live in Norway. Recently I bought a 3720 from Germany, and I didn't realise that the phone would be without Norwegian language options. The menus are not a major problem, but the lack of a Norwegian dictionary for texting is. My question: Is it possible to download the Scandinavian language pack to my phone? Or is it possible to acquire it through some kind of service center?

The whole firmware must be changed. Your current firmware variant is identified through the Nokia Product Code (05…). Your current code is printed on the label behind the battery. You need a firmware variant which contains Norwegian like 0590889 (Grey) or 0591159 (Yellow). Officially, this is done by a Nokia Care Centre. However, because I am an end-user like you, I do not know if there is still such a centre in Norway.

How do I get Pages to recognize the Norwegian language in spell-check?

I'm Ameican and I got my beautiful MacBook air with me in Norway. I use Pages to write notes and do homework, but it doesn't have Norwegian as a language amunst the spellcheck dictionary. It has Swedish and Danish ofcours, but it's not the same. Is there any way to get a Norwegian (bokmål) dictionary for Pages?

You may also add OpenOffice spell checkers, there is a long list of languages, including Norwegian. These may be used with other apps too. Downloaded OO dics have the extension .oxt, manually change it to .zip, confirm when asked that you really wish to do this. Open the resulted folder and take from there .dic and .aff files, and move them to /Library/spelling. You may thus have as many spell checking dics as you wish. They may be selected in all the apps based on the Cocoa engine, including Pages.
In the attached screenshot, in the lower part you may see these dics.
P.S. I am not very familiar with Norwegian, but it seems the article does not specify how to download and install OO dics.

Simplified Chinese was a rough re-design of Tradtional Chinese about 1954 by the Communist Party of PRC for political reason, while Traditional Chinese has been developed and refined for 1,500 years. Simplified Chinese is simplistic comparing to the rich context of Traditional one. Simplified Chinese has phrases invented and used specifically by the Communist Party of PRC with words or even meanings twisted while Traditional Chinese embraces a rich knowledge base of wisdom embedded. Thus, when a dictionary of Chinese is to be referred, Tradtional Chinese is my only reliable and trusted source of reputable reference. Simplified Chinese is something similar to Auusie English, Singlish and Hollywood English - good for communication among peers themselves.

I am looking for the spelling dictionary in Portuguese (from Portugal) for Appleworks 6.
Opening an Appleworks sheet, I would like to have, in the Edit Menu/spelling/Choose dictionary,something like :
Portuguese-hyphenation
Portuguese-spelling.
Does this dictionary exist?
Can you please check in you Appleworks 6 folder if you have the Dictionary Portuguese.

PS:
I have an iMac G3 with Appleworks 6.2.9, updated from the CD application software provided with OS 9.2.1. Therefore, I just have the French and English Dictionaries.
Also, even if OSX (10.4.9) has its own spelling tool, it doesn't work with Appleworks.
Furthermore, iWork 6 requires a G4,or higher, and has no spreadsheet application.

Norwegian
Finnish
Brazilian Portuguese
So, you will not find a potuguese thesaurus file.
