Norwegian spell check on IPad 2

Why isn't there a norwegian spell check on the IPad, and will there be one in IOS 5?

Since it's listed as present in the tech specs, you should have it:

Are you aware that spell checking follows the keyboard?  You must be typing with the Norwegian keyboard layout to have Norwegian spellcheck.  Except for iWork apps, which have a bug where spellcheck follows the OS language.

  • Will Pages 2.0 have Norwegian spell check possibilities ??

Can I tell my wife that upgrading to Pages 2.0 solve the spell check issues?
We were very dissapointed to find that Pages was sold in Norway, without support for Norwegian.
Even bigger dissepointment: I cant replace the useless spellchecker with aspell, as I can do with other programs like "Impress".
So, has this been fixed, or at least can I use "aspell" ???

  • When will a Norwegian spell checker be included in OS X?

I wonder when Apple will supply a Norwegian spell checker with its OS. For someone who communicates in both English and Norwegain on a daily basis, a built in Norwegian spell checker would be nice. I have found a third party work-around, but it is not satisfactory. Ironically, my iPhone has a built in spell checker which seems to work perfect. Why not use the same for OS X?

Exactly six months have passed since I posted the above asking Apple for a Norwegian spell checker to be included in the OS and their other software. According to the stats, more than 90 people have viewed this post, but zero answers. This means, that if anyone at Apple has read my post, they have avoided responding to the issue. When Mountain Lion was released this summer, I was an early adapter and the first thing I checked after installation was if Norwegian was included in the OS spell check languages. Not surprisingly, I was disappointed.
Yes, there are third party spell checkers, but they do not work very well. Not consistent and have flaws. So, Apple developers, if you read this, please respond and answer why we are still waiting for this spell checker?

  • Ad spell check languages

    Hi,
I use three different Macs, a Macbook Pro, an iMac and a MacBook Air. And I use Mail on all these machines towards the same several mail accounts. My native language is Norwegian, so I use spellchecker for both English and Norwegian. However on my MacBook Air there is no Norwegian spellchecker, it comes up with Danish instead. I have tried to figure out how to ad Norwegian language but no luck. My Mac is set up with Norwegian language so all other menus act are in Norwegian.
    Best wishes !

Apple has never provided a Norwegian spellchecker.  Here is one you can add:

  • Since upgrading to ios5 spell check no longer works on my iPad 2

I have tried turning spell check off and on again and rebooting the iPad but that did not help, what am I supposed to do? Reinstall ios5 because it took me 8 hours the first time round I'm not going through that again.

I have not used the Support Communities before... meaning we pay our med care to answer Apple questions? And where is that answer or at least the... "we are working on it... " comment from Apple. The first post is OCTOBER how is that possible?? Did you see the last quarter Apple profits?
Anyway I too have that problem... where is the red line? Maybe the promotion of writing errors and dumbing us down is... the goal? Obviously with the iPad "keyboard" the redline is needed and how was it left out in the first place?? Hope there is not some simple tick we are all missing... .

  • Spell checking in other languages using Pages for iPad

Does anybody know how to spell check a document in a language other than the primary language? For example the iPad is using English but I want to write a letter in German.
This was simple to do using Pages on the Mac. So far I'm stumped.

From Settings General International. Select keyboards and add the language(s) of your choice. Tou will now have a spell checker and word predicter for the selected languages.
Did you actually try this with Pages?  In the past this app had a bug where switching the keyboard did not work, you had to switch the OS language, as was stated earlier in this discussion.  If that is now fixed, that is good to hear.

  • How do I get Pages to recognize the Norwegian language in spell-check?

I'm Ameican and I got my beautiful MacBook air with me in Norway.  I use Pages to write notes and do homework, but it doesn't have Norwegian as a language amunst the spellcheck dictionary.  It has Swedish and Danish ofcours, but it's not the same.  Is there any way to get a Norwegian (bokmål) dictionary for Pages?

You may also add OpenOffice spell checkers, there is a long list of languages, including Norwegian. These may be used with other apps too. Downloaded OO dics have the extension .oxt, manually change it to .zip, confirm when asked that you really wish to do this. Open the resulted folder and take from there .dic and .aff files, and move them to /Library/spelling. You may thus have as many spell checking dics as you wish. They may be selected in all the apps based on the Cocoa engine, including Pages.
In the attached screenshot, in the lower part you may see these dics.
P.S. I am not very familiar with Norwegian, but it seems the article does not specify how to download and install OO dics.

  • Is it possible to change the spell check dictionary in "pages for iPad" from Spanish to UK English?  The app was downloaded in Spain.

Is it possible to change the spell check dictionary in “pages for iPad” from Spanish to UK English?  The app was purchased in Spain and I am living in spain temporarily

Spell checking should be based on the keyboard layout that you've got selected in Settings > General > Keyboard > International Keyboards - if you have an English 'UK keyboard' selected then the spell checking should be English

  • How do you alter the spell check on an iPad?

I type my name or email and it always suggests something else. I want to add the new word so that it doesn't "correct" it again!

The system setting for spell check  ... go to Settings>General>Keyboard>Check Spelling. You have to keep Auto-Correction enabled to turn Spell Check on, but you can turn spell check off and leave Auto-Correction on.
However, in your case, you want to disable Auto Correction because that is what keeps trying to correct what you are typing.
The way the system is designed to work is that if you keep rejecting the "suggested" spelling of the iPad's auto correct by pressing the X in the blue suggested word, the iPad should eventually learn your word.

  • Pages for iPad - multilingual spell check

Is there any way to spell check multiple languages in Pages for the iPad (or the iWork apps in general, for that matter), short of changing the system language every time?
I routinely write in English, German and French. In most apps, including Mail, SMS and Notes, spell-checking automatically adapts to the keyboard layout chosen, and multilingual typing is a breeze. Not so in iWork, it seems.
I am currently working on a German document in Pages on my iPad, and the only way I could get usable spell-checking was to switch the whole system to German, which seems like overkill.
    Am I missing something?

No, you are not missing anything. The last version of iWork for iOS (1.4) is out today, but still has the same problem. Send feedback to Apple and make yourself heard here in the forums. Maybe they'll notice.
I have the exact same problem. My solution is, unfortunately, not to use Pages on the iPad. Every other word processing app I know of uses the language of the selected keyboard to check the spelling.
The irony is, iOS already has a beautiful system to handle documents in many languages, with all the necessary keyboards and dictionaries. The only apps that do not make use of all that are the ones from Apple...

  • Can you add a word or name to the spell checker in pages for iPad?

I'm looking for a way to add a word, alternate spelling or proper name to the spell checker for the newest version of pages for iPad so they won't keep showing up as "misspelled".
    Can you help?

No, the ability to add a word to spell check dictionary is not a current feature.

  • Switch iPad to spell check uk english for crying out loud

Started with simple document created on iPad2 using Pages 1.6 (504) - noticed spell check default is US English (eg summarize) but I need UK English.
Went through all the settings in iOS Pages to try to switch - no luck.
Went to my iMac, Safari, iCloud, pulled down document, (incidentally noticed it had a problem with missing font despite fact that I'm using defaults throughout), opened in Pages '09 v4.1 (923) selected all, went to inspector, changed to UK English, saved.
Uploaded document to iCloud/iWork - selected 'replace' when given option.
Went back to iPad. Noticed Pages documents had not refreshed. Shut down iPad. Re-started. Selected document, opened, and magically it had reverted to US spelling. Also now has a problem with missing font Calibri - in fact I don't give a tinker's cuss which font it uses, I simply want it to spell in vernacular.
Repeat all of above. Confirmed document when opened on iMac had indeed kept UK spelling, ie problem has something to do with iPad settings.
All-in-all wasted an hour. So much for iCloud/iWork. iGiveUp.
    Any ideas?

what's not clear is which keyboard is active since there's no indication.
You can make it clear by holding down the "globe" key and choosing what you want from the list.  Or how about deleting the keyboard which does not say English (UK).
Spellcheck normally follows the keyboard on iOS devices and what app you are using is irrelevant.
