Norwegian spellcheck in mail FTW!

topic says it all ;D

For Norwegian spellchecking, you need to get Cocoaspell and the appropriate dictionary:

  • Spellchecker in Mail how do i exit it ?

Hi all, while using Mail on my MacBookPro i compose a new message and click SEND and it Checks the spelling and lets me correct it and then the Email gets sent.
Quite often i am looking at the email while the spellchecker is on the screen doing its stuff i see some words i would like to remove completely or edit a little more, but as soon as spellchecker has finished the email gets sent and i cant stop it being sent.
is there a way of setting the spellchecker so it doesnt send the email immediately after it has finished spell checking ?
    tim

    Tim,
In Mail > Preferences > Composing tab > set spell checking to "as I type".  Then you can see the spelling errors before you send.

  • How can i add a language for spellcheck in Mail?

The spell check in the Mac Mail program does not include the Norwegian language - however in the Tekst option panel it says that i can add the word list files by copying the .aff and .dic files and adding them to the spelling/library-file. Is this (.aff .dic) something i need to download or do I have them on my Mac somewhere? If so, then where can i find them?

You need to download such things.

  • I need Russian spellcheck in MAIL

I type many emails in Russian for work, but can't seem to get a Russian spellcheck going in MAIL. I know how to choose dictionaries for spelling: Edit > Spelling > Spelling, but Russian's not one of the 13 options.
How to get a Russian dictionary in there?

If I upgrade to Leopard, how likely is it that I'll experience data loss/misplaced data, etc.?
That's impossible to predict, since everyone's experience is somewhat different depending on what they do when installing it. I've never experienced any loss of data when upgrading through the years, so I think you're being pessimistic by assuming that you will experience that.
Regardless of anything else, you should always have a bootable backup of your present system in case the unthinkable happens, whether you're installing or upgrading applications or an OS.

  • Can't get mail to stop correcting spelling

This has changed recently. I have set Spellchecking in Mail > Preferences to Never but it still corrects what it thinks are mistakes as I press space after a word. For example, ppi (pixels per inch) is always changed to pip.
I know that CMND + ; will do a spell check (which is how I want Mail to work, manually). I have restarted my iMac, pulled the mains plug, waited for 20 seconds then restarted. No cure.
Should I delete Mail and re-install? If so, where do I get Mail?
This fault is making Mail unusable.

On the Text tab. Sorry, I should have mentioned that >_<

  • Norwegian spell sheck, how to get in pages?

I have no norwegian spellchecker in Pages.
    How do I solve that?
    best regards Bjørn

The spell checker doesn't belong to the app but to the operating system.

  • Dictionary in Mail - how to have French & German, too

I have the multi-language spellcheck with Mail - but the dictionary is just English. So, of course, is my Dictionary program with 10.5.8 Leopard, US edition. But how to get the French and German dictionaires as well? And how to link them to Mail?
    Thanks!

I don't understand what you are saying. Having multi-language spellcheck means you have spellcheck dictionaries in multiple languages.
So, of course, is my Dictionary program with 10.5.8 Leopard, US edition. But how to get the French and German dictionaires as well?
This I can help you with. There are a number of French and German dictionaries. Here is one example. If you want free dictionaries or dictionaries integrated with Dictionary.app, it will be harder. I created a free Dictionary.app version of the Le Dictionnaire de l'Académie Française. If anyone knows of a good, free German dictionary I could convert, I would appreciate it.
And how to link them to Mail?
If you use some 3rd party software, you're on your own. Hopefully they have something.
If you use Dictionary.app, you can right (Control) click on a word or select a word and press Ctrl ⌘ D
Note for Apple: While my French dictionary is free, other things on my site are not. Therefore, “I may receive some form of compensation, financial or otherwise, from my recommendation or link.”

  • Norwegian spell check on IPad 2

Why isn't there a norwegian spell check on the IPad, and will there be one in IOS 5?

Since it's listed as present in the tech specs, you should have it:
    http://www.apple.com/ipad/specs/
Are you aware that spell checking follows the keyboard?  You must be typing with the Norwegian keyboard layout to have Norwegian spellcheck.  Except for iWork apps, which have a bug where spellcheck follows the OS language.

  • Will Pages 2.0 have Norwegian spell check possibilities ??

Can I tell my wife that upgrading to Pages 2.0 solve the spell check issues?
We were very dissapointed to find that Pages was sold in Norway, without support for Norwegian.
Even bigger dissepointment: I cant replace the useless spellchecker with aspell, as I can do with other programs like "Impress".
So, has this been fixed, or at least can I use "aspell" ???

  • Mail and International grammars

In international system preferenses a bunch of languages are listet, including my native language Norwegian.
In Mail the spelling grammars list look pretty much the same, but does not contain Norwegian.
Looking trhough the system folders it looks like Mail uses grammar files from the OS somewhere.
Do anyone know where and how I can add Norwegian or any other language that is missing to Mail?
Excuse me for any spelling mistakes!

CocoAspell is what people normally use for Norwegian and other languages not yet included with OS X.

  • Is there any Norwegian Dictionary

    Hello,
I would like to add Norwegian spellcheck into my applicatuion using Squiggly.
Are there any resources for .dic and .aff files for Norwegian ?
    Thanks!
    Adrian

To reiterate what Ravi said, not all rules required for Norwegian have been implemented in Squiggly yet.
There are three parts to supporting a language in Squiggly:
    1) The dictionary file (.dic) which includes a list of valid words with some metadata
    2) The language specific rules file (.aff) which specifies the word composition rules for the language to make suggestions
    3) The algorighm in Squiggly to interpret the rules specified in the .aff file.
You can get #1 & #2 from the link Ravi specified.  What you are missing, is the support for word composition rules that are specific to Norwegian.  We home to complete the implementation of all rules over time, but for the time being, you will likely get poor results, especially with the spelling suggestions for misspelled words.
    Hope this helps,

  • Multilingual spellchecking

    Hi
This Multilingual spellchecking in mail I'm sure is supposed to work in some way. But mine doesn't really make sense. I'm writing in English and Danish, but none the way it underlines correctly spelled words implies that it does not work or is a very bad spellchecker.
is there some setting that I don't know of for this to work? I presume it's supposed to automatically find out in what language you are writing and then does some spellchecking..
It works when I manually set it to either Danish or English.
Any comments would be greatly appreciated
    Best, Ulrich

What application are you using? I have just tried it (I didn't know the multilingual option existed until I saw your post!) in TextEdit in a mixture of French, English and German, and it seemed to respond correctly - but it was not an extensive test.
Not every application uses OS X's dictionaries - MS Office, for example, uses its own.

  • Ad spell check languages

    Hi,
I use three different Macs, a Macbook Pro, an iMac and a MacBook Air. And I use Mail on all these machines towards the same several mail accounts. My native language is Norwegian, so I use spellchecker for both English and Norwegian. However on my MacBook Air there is no Norwegian spellchecker, it comes up with Danish instead. I have tried to figure out how to ad Norwegian language but no luck. My Mac is set up with Norwegian language so all other menus act are in Norwegian.
    Best wishes !

Apple has never provided a Norwegian spellchecker.  Here is one you can add:

I've seen a couple of discussions but they were older and there didn't seem to be a way to make this work.  I'm creating a doc in Word and putting hyperlinks in the Table of contents to that I can easily navigate to different pages.  Won't work.  Any ideas?
