Noscript takes over firefox 13 on mac, cannot disable or uninstall. help.

Running osx lion 10.7.4 and firefox 13.0.1. Have the extensions ghostery and noscript.
Noscript has changed the firefox toolbar and preferences and ghostery advanced preferences.
I've used firefox for years, but I will stop using this browser if I cannot uninstall noscript.
Have tried disable, but noscript re-enables itself.
Have tried uninstalling and reinstalling firefox, but noscript is still there.
Have tried reset through safemode, noscript re-enables itself.
Have looked for noscript plugin location through firefox, it's not listed.
Please help.

The ordinary version of no-script is one of the most popular of the officially hosted Firefox add-ons https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/noscript/?src=search
You should have no problem uninstalling that. Some users have a problem because security software is preventing changes, that could be a problem on your system, but tends to be less likely on a Mac than MS PCs. The standard uninstall instructions are in these articles
* [[disable or remove add-ons]]
* [[cannot uninstall an add-on]]
I am not using no-script at present but did not have problems uninstalling it. I am not a Mac user but have two thoughts
# the uninstall script file is somehow corrupt, in which case the above linked artice should solve the problem.
# maybe you have actually installed something else, a totally unofficial version or even malware.
* for more information on malware see [[is my firefox problem a result of malware]]
IF the linked articles do not help I would suggest the best place for advice is no-scripts own active support forum http://forums.informaction.com/viewforum.php?f=3
Please post back with how you get on.

Sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.

  • Bing takes over Firefox, didn't download it, don't want Bing

Windows 8.1 FF 27.0.1 FF is set as default browser, with tabs from previous session set to open. Bing opens browser when I start computer and adds itself to whatever tabs are set to open.
This has been asked a number of times, and I read as many answers as I could read before my eyes crossed and I got dizzy.
One person said Bing takes over every few weeks. Lucky them, Bing takes over every day - when I start my computer, it opens my browser and inserts itself on a tab.
I HATE Bing, I won't use it, I don't want it. I thought I had been very careful when I downloaded any program, custom install, check every box that it isn't installing something I don't want.
I have the paid version of MalwareBytes with daily updates and scans and my computer is clean of malware.
I checked in the Tools tab, didn't see anything listed in the Add Ons, Extensions or Plug Ins that suggest Bing is lurking. But I don't really know what to look for unless of course it said "Bing".
One reply on a closed question said:
So, I went to Control Panel (by whatever method you get to your control method, just do it.) And I looked at all the programs which have been installed recently. And there they were, two programs. One called Conduit Search. Another was toolbar (with a number next to it, which I forget.)
    Another said:
However I found Conduit Search in programs and uninstalled. Needless to say when I restarted my computer I was finally BING FREE!!!!!
I looked in Control Panel but this has been going on since I got this new computer. I didn't install all the programs so I don't know when it arrived here. I did do a search in Windows Explorer for "Conduit Search" there were 11 files but they were either gif. or shortcuts. When I searched for just "Conduit" there were 77 files found with .xml, PNG, .gif, java script, and maybe a couple others. A couple like .xml, I've never seen before. I also searched for "Bing" there were 54 files including shortcuts, ICO, .dll, WINMD, and more. I looked in Control Panel, Uninstall or change a program but there was nothing about Bing or Conduit.
I can download and install programs, I can search for files on Windows Explorer, and other standard types of things, but I'm not sure at all about things like starting in Safe Mode or understanding some of the more technical replies, please answer in simple English.

Run scans with multiple and up-to-date tools. Hopefully it will be easily detected and removed. <br />I would not suggest you try any manual hacks or edits of the Windows registry. (Once rogue files are removed any residual registry entry will not normally do any harm.) <br />
In this case certainly use '''AdwCleaner''' and do not rely on only scanning with malwarebytes.
Some of this unwanted software may be hard to detect because there may even be people that install it intentionally. Conduit itself is well known and often not liked.
    <u>Check your Search Bar setting</u><br />
One obvious thing to check is what you have selected as the search engine in Firefox's search bar. That will be used by all searches is that Bing, or Bing related. By default the search bar offers a few options and the original default is usually Google.
    * [[Search bar - Easily choose your favorite search engine]]
**[[How to use popular search suggestions in the Search Bar]]
<u>Check the Shortcuts used to start Firefox</u><br />
As a test try to start Firefox from the ''Run'' option. Use shortcut Windows Key+R to use the Run option and enter ''firefox.exe'' and hit the Return. If firefox then starts normally the problem may be that you have a corrupt or modified shortcut. <br />Right clicking shortcuts alloows their properties to be displayed, is some site address tacked on to the end of the firefox name ?
<u>Use the SearchReset addon, after any malware is removed</u> <br />
Also see [[Remove a toolbar that has taken over your Firefox search or home page]] Note in particular the use of the addon searchreset mentioned in that article. The addon is installs, resets things to normal and then uninstalls itself.

  • Extra tab appears on home page saying ant download successful. Cannot stop it from appearing. Pop-up says firefox update available, cannot disable. Will not keep changes about disable upgrades.

When I open mozilla firefox, an extra tab appears that says ant upgrade download successful. I had set that do not accept upgrades. It upgraded and I cannot eliminate the tab from appearing on my homepage. I always have problems when I take a Mozilla update so I tried to disable. I keep getting a pop-up telling me one is available and I should take it. I am trying to not change my service.

  • Firefox for Mac: accidentally disabled full screen Flash video for Yahoo. How to reenable??

I was looking at a video on screen.yahoo.com, and that annoying "Now entering full screen... allow/don't allow" (paraphrasing) dialog came up at the top. I must have inadvertently selected the option to disable, because now when I click the fullscreen icon at the lower right part of the video, nothing happens at all. No full screen, no annoying dialog. Nothing.
As per other posts on this forum from people who have had this problem, I have tried the following:
    • Deleted ALL Flash Player settings in my Mac's System Preferences
    • Gone to about:permissions in Firefox and set Fullscreen to ALLOW for all Yahoo URLs
    • Deleted all COOKIES for domain yahoo.com
I have also quit and rebooted Firefox after having done these things. Alas, I go back to the video on screen.yahoo.com, click the fullscreen icon in the video frame, and still get nothing.
I'm stumped. This seems to be a heavy price to pay for accidentally clicking the wrong button one time. Sort of a Zero Tolerance Policy approach to video settings... Any other ideas about how I can restore this functionality??
    Thanks!

    You can hover the image.
That should make a delete X appear.
You can inspect and manage permissions for the domain in the currently selected tab via these steps:
*Click the "[[Site Identity Button|Site Identity Button]]" (globe/padlock) on the location/address bar
*Click "More Information" to open "Tools > Page Info" with the Security tab selected
*Go to the Permissions tab (Tools > Page Info > Permissions) to check the permissions for the domain in the currently selected tab

  • MAC OS 10.6.8 Firefox 6.0.2 Any new window opening takes over a minute to happen. Once open all is fine. New tabs open immediately. Only on new windows is there this delay. This only happens on FF, not on Sarari, Chrome, Opera. - stevehorn@websentia.us

Opening FF for the first time and when any additional, new window is opened, it takes over 60 seconds for the window to appear. This happens after reboot and repair permissions in Disc Utilities on reboot (from installation disc). Once window appears, all works fine. New tabs appear instantly. New, added windows still take the 60+ seconds to appear even with current window remaining open. No other browsers or applications behave this way.

Not sure if this is exactly the same as the other reported problems.
But creating a new (via command N or via menu selection) window creates a long thin nearly zero width but full height window. Selecting the window via the window menu and zooming brings it up at full size.
I tried turning off all add-ons and things seemed to work but then stopped working again (sorry can't find a consistent set of symptoms here).

  • Firefox takes over windows hotkeys (Fn + Volume Up)

Firefox takes over windows hotkeys (Fn + Volume Up). I am used to adjusting global volume control (windows mixer) from my keyboard, but firefox takes over Fn + ... hotkeys so they don't work in firefox windows. How to disable this feature in firefox?
    Thanks

This is still a problem and a very annoying one!! With the newer versions of adobe flash (currently here 11.5.502.135) I cannot change volume with Fn+F keys after pressing anywhere on my firefox window. First I have to unfocus my firefox window and only then I can change volume. This problem doesn't occur in flash player 10.3 for example.

I am opposed to having private browsing as a feature that I cannot disable. In IE I can and have disabled that feature so it is not an option, but with both FireFox and Chrome I am not able to disable. So you have lost me as a client and anyone I talk with will receive my views on this.

Please can someone help, l have been trying to figure this out for more than a week. l especially wanted to use the save to PDF function in Firefox. Please, please HELP!

    Hi nature26,
There is no Firefox search, there are a number of search engines you can choose in the Settings men u > Customize> Search Engines
The search engine will be searched in the toolbar, as you type there will be an option to chose to search in many engines. If you turned on google search suggestions this will happen as well.
When you say the option is greyed out, can you please take a screenshot on the tablet and upload it in a response, it is a little unclear what you are trying to do. [[How to make screenshots]]

  • Firefox 27.0.1 takes over 10 minutes to start !

And when it does start, it's unbearably slow !
Firefox seems to monopolize the disk per the access LED on the front of the Dell
this on a Dell b120 laptop, 1.5g memory, win xp sp3
This just started yesterday with 27.0.1
    tried 27.0.0 & 26 - neither helped
tried disabling the plugins, no help
tried running junkware removal tool, no help
tried adding more memory, to a total of 1.5 g from 1g, no help
    safe mode, no help
didn't try a reset because it takes so long to get firefox to start
For now I'm using Chrome (IE8 also works) but would prefer Firefox.
BTW, almost nothing else can be done while Firefox is starting/running
so usually end up killing the firefox process with a ctrl-alt-del

Start you computer in safe mode. Then see how long it takes for
    Firefox to load.

  • Mac OS 10.5.6 - Screen saver takes over while playing DVD.

Since I installed 10.5.6, when I am playing a DVD using the DVD Player, the screen saver takes over the display and I have to disable it in order to continue to see the DVD video. Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this? I have just been disabling the screen saver by setting it to never. Kind of a pain.

    Hi Raingirl;
If you go to System Preferences > Desktop & Screensaver and set it to never, it will turn off the Screensaver forever. If you want the Screensaver back again later you must reset it again. I know this is a royal pain in the your-know-what but it is the best suggestion I have for now.
I did sent my thoughts on this to Apple via www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.htm
You to might try this. If enough of express our displeasure maybe they might see our point of view and change things so that the screensaver doesn't interrupt programs that don't require input.
