Hi Apple,
after a successful migration from Windows to iMac in 2006, I am now very sad, that Apple do not support my iMac (Intel, early 2006) for Mountain Lion.
Since my iMac still works perfectly, which speaks for the quality, I won't buy any new hardware.
But I feel somewhat pushed to sidelines.

Like all hardware/software companies, at some point business decisions have to be made based on advances that make it difficult if not impossible to support older technology. This is true of all operating system designers, whether Apple or one of the others. Features are incorporated that require hardware not available in the older computers so they become obsolete with regard to the new operating systems. That was also true of the G4/G5 cup systems...they cannot run Mac OS X beyond 10.5.8. Eventually all systems fall into that category, no matter how good the hardware may be.
Good luckwith your computer equipment and hopefully it will continue to serve you well. But if you really need the features of the latest Mac OS X give thought to new equipment.

every negative experience is an opportinity to learn. deleting or moderating these experiences would be turning away the chance to learn. as long as users follow the participation rules, we allow even the most negative posts to remain.
as you said, forums are inherently negative by nature as users typically come here to solve a problem. those of us who try to solve the problems are in the minority. we certainly appreciate users such as yourself who voluntarily return to the forum to help out, especially those who initially came here to solve a problem themselves.

I have been using Captivate for a couple of years now, and taught myself rather than receiving any training.
I have posted a few time with queries and always received courteous helpful answers very quickly, but frequently find what I need to know in other posts.
I would just to say a big thank you to you all on the Forum for the help and advice you give. It is very much appreciated.

There's a bug in either Microsoft Exchange or JavaMail API.
An exception is thrown when sending an email:
javax.mail.SendFailedException: Invalid Addresses;
nested exception is:
class com.sun.mail.smtp.SMTPAddressFailedException: 550 5.7.1 Unable to relay for [email protected]
at com.sun.mail.smtp.SMTPTransport.rcptTo(SMTPTransport.java:1141)
at com.sun.mail.smtp.SMTPTransport.sendMessage(SMTPTransport.java:536)
at javax.mail.Transport.send0(Transport.java:151)
at javax.mail.Transport.send(Transport.java:80)This exception is caused by, believe or not, because the same mail session has defined the "mail.imap.fetchsize" property in an earlier IMAP session.
I used this line to fetch a session and in the IMAP code I defined the fetchsize property to increase performance. An identical line was used in the SMTP code to fetch a session to send a mail. As it turns out, the SMTP communication is disrupted by the fetchsize property.
Session session = Session.getDefaultInstance(props, null);
My solution was to change the SMTP code the following:
Session session = Session.getInstance(properties);
Hope this helps someone, somewhere in the future...

Well, I don't believe the fetchsize property is disrupting SMTP sending, but it is true that
everyone who calls Session.getDefaultInstance gets the same Session object, and the
properties for that Session are set by the first caller. The properties passed in by
subsequent callers are ignored.
The javadocs for the method try to explain this behavior, perhaps not well enough.

It was never completely clear whether it was just hidden or whether Apple ran a download page for iChat 6.
As the Download for Messages Beta was separate and "Deleted" iChat it would seem it would be another download for iChat 6.
iMessages will not function as it is only an Account type within Messages and iChat 6 does not have it.
Therefore messages on the iPhone will not sync to the Mac. (until you get Mountain Lion and Messages in that OS X version).
Mountain Lion and it's full version of Messages will not sync the iMessages that have happened in between the 14th December 2012 (end date of Messages beta) and the Install of Mountain Lion if you decide on that route.

That's why he gave you the link to make the suggestion.
But returning to your proposal ... Apple does not sell any of the "wifi" connections. It would be up to providers of service to sell giftcards, and perhaps Boingo or some of other airport-commercial WiFi firms do. I can't think of any other place I've been asked to pay for WiFi.
Now Verizon and AT&T, as well as other providers in other countries, could sell Gift Cards... and again, perhaps they do, but you'll have to check with them or make the suggestions there. It's really not an Apple issue, as they don't sell or provide any connections, just the hardware to make them.

Questions on Room State

Hey guys,
     I got some questions on room state:
     1) Does the room state actually take some effect or just an indicating flag? For example, if a room state is ROOM_STATE_ENDED, will it prevent any incoming user connection?
     2) I tried to login as a guest, the room setting is HostNotArrived. Then I logged in as an owner. The state was switched to Active. The result seems fine until now. However, when I quit the owner app by closing the brower tab, and checked the quest page, the room state was still in Active, rather than switch back to HostNotArrived or any other state. Is it an expected result? How can I let the room state update to date if the owner quit in this way?
     3) For my scenario, I'd like to build a room only avaiable when owner arrived. That is, if a guest arrived before the owner arrived or after the owner left, he will not be allowed to do anything , even the connection should be rejected. Is that possible?

Hi Jinni,
1) It should prevent any incoming connection other than OWNERs of the room.
2) HostNotArrived happens only before a room has been "kicked off" by the owner, and not afterwards (even if the owner has left the room, it's still fair to say he had "arrived").
3) I'm not sure there's a perfect way to do this yet. We'll be looking into this use case, which feels like you need some "server-to-server" integration : the ability to detect an owner has left, then a way to shut down the room. Does that seem right to you? For now, a quick way of achieving the functionality (if not the security) is to have your clients detect that there's no owner, and disconnect.

i am performing some simple delete statement against one table..but its taking so long..How can we check whether particular delete statements actually deleting records or not..?

Is the associated select-statement returning rows or not?
If yes -> delete is deleting
If no -> delete is just using CPU-cycles
To tune the delete-statement, you have to tune the corresponding select-statement. To tune the select-statement, you want to read the thread When your query takes too long ...

I'm getting the above error when trying to execute a custom lookup. What I'm trying to do is lookup the minimum promotional price between date ranges. The SQL executes fine in SSMS

Smart scan not working with Insert Select statements

We have observed that smart scan is not working with insert select statements but works when select statements are execute alone.
Can you please help us to explain this behavior?

There is a specific exadata forum - you would do better to post the question there: Exadata
I can't give you a definitive answer, but it's possible that this is simply a known limitation similar to the way that "Create table as select" won't run the select statement the same way as the basic select if it involves a distributed query.

Question about 'write' statement

A question on write statement.
I have a internal table itab which has field var. I am looping at this itab and writing horizontal heading output like below.
example on the output heading:
(3 spaces) itab-var (20 spaces) itab-var (20 spaces) itab-var.
the coding is:
loop at itab.
write: 3 itab-var.
endloop.
I want to increase the space by 20 for every loop. How to increase this 3 by 20? Can we accomplish this way?

just add 20 inside the loop , so that after every loop its value increases by 20
for example:
data: v type i.
v=3.
do 3 times.
write: at v(20).
v=v+20.
end do.
