Not a single problem

just got my iphone syncing it now i dont have antena problems or proximity problems everything is great wifi is fast and connected straight away havent tried 3g yet
so so happy what a ******* phone!

I upgraded to the new phone about a month ago in the hopes of better reception over my 3gs. I really believe the iphone 4 holds onto a weak signal much better than the old model. I'm in marginal areas, both 3g and edge, most of the time and do still have call problems but it seems much less prevalent now. None of the other issues except low light white balance on the otherwise great camera. The video seems excellent to me but then I'm not knowledgable in that area. As far as the antennae issue it is only sensitive in a small spot that I notice if I hold it in my right hand (I'm left handed). My 3gs has always been terribly sensitive if held any where near the bottom of the phone and I find the iP4 much easier to deal with as far as attenuation. Yes I'm an Apple fan and not familiar with the other smartphones out there but overall this was a good improvement over the 3gs.

My Ipod classic wont play TED, The Grid, Techzilla and other video podcasts (but not all video podcasts). The genious bar could not figure out the problem. Instead, the Apple store gave me credit towards a new classic, which produced the same problem. This problem is not isolated to a single computer. Secondly, the convert to ipod version feature in Itunes does not resolve the problem. Lastly, I tried restoring the ipod to no avail. I've heard this is a video codec problem.

Not a single cocoa app opening after the 10.5.6 update

I have a serious problem. Not a single cocoa application (Safari, Mail, Pages, etc.) will open for me. It will bounce in the dock and then crash. The Carbon apps are fine (iTunes, FFox, Finder) I have no idea why. Any ideas?

I agree that repairing permissions before & after installing an update is more of a voodoo-like ritual than sound advice based solidly on fact.
Once, in the early days of OS X, it was not entirely uncommon for certain non-Apple product installers to set permissions to unusual values to facilitate installing some app & then fail to reset them afterwards, or to reset some file permissions they should not. This at least explains why the advice to repair permissions after an update became common -- some users have an unfortunate habit of thinking that what fixes one specific issue might have some mysterious ability to fix others, so they add it to a ritualistic formula designed to prevent any problems, whether still applicable to the current software climate or not.
Just to remove any lingering doubt about this, users should note that AFAIK, no Apple product installer ever has been shown to do this & current OS updaters certainly don't. As mentioned, some users confuse innocuous warnings with mis-set permissions, which seems to perpetuate the idea that the OS update installers frequently cause permissions problems, but this is a misconception.
What is worth doing prior to installing an OS update is Disk Utility's "Verify Disk" test, & if it shows anything is amiss, rebooting from the installer DVD & running the "Repair Disk" step. This is because disk file system problems can cause an install to fail, often by corrupting essential OS files.

Not a single format will import

I have a flip video which records in AVI. Older iMovie had no problem importing this. I spent several hours at the Apple store Genius bar a month or so ago and we developed a workaround using Toast Titanium to convert my AVI files to Quicktime so iMove '09 will work. However, tonight NOTHING works. I have converted my video into every kind of file known to man and not a single one will import into iMovie. I've tried quicktime, quicktime custom, H.264, Mpeg-4, DV...I've tried putting them into iPhoto first. I've tried putting them into iTunes first. NOTHING is working. What the heck do I have to do to get my stupid movies into iMovie?!?

If you are using the old *Standard Definition Flip Video Camera* in conjunction with *iMovie '09* all you need to do is install the 3ivxVideoCodec.component

My maps app has suddenly gone BLANK, no longer displays anything but a creamy brown background and a blue dot, I've see other issues on other devices also, but not a single response from apple explaining how to resolve it. Anyone else?

Before I left for Thailand, I didn't have a single problem with my maps app, however on return, I've found that it no longer displays anything in the main map screen, hybrid and sattelite still show something (but aren't accurate), but in maps itself, all there is is a blank screen. This not only affects maps, but all my other programs that are obviously linked somehow to apple maps are now doing the same thing... Nike Running, iSmoothRun, Argus, all now show my route, but it's overlaid over a BLANK map area.
Anyone see this? and know how to fix it?

I've done soft and hard resets, power off resets, I've deleted the three apps that are associated with maps and reinstalled them, the only thing I haven't done is a full restore, which from other peoples experiences I've see hasn't fixed the issue. So, I've avoided that because I don't want the 7.0.5 update (my 5S is a China coded model)

Yes, indeed; the reason is the last sentence in the post by apple:
iPod shuffle and iPhone are intended for use with a single computer. You cannot load music from multiple computers or iTunes libraries onto iPod shuffle and iPhone like you can with other devices.

My iPad 2 does exactly the same thing. But I just have to go on to my wifi options and you can either forget this network and then press it again or you can turn wifi off and on again and press that wifi.

Visual Voicemail Not Working (New Problem)

I found another thread with the same title but it was a different situation, involving some kind of tethering hack.
This time I updated to 3.1.2 this morning and it seemed everything worked fine, but then I missed a call and the no Voicemail followed so I did not think it was important and didn't call back. About 2 hours later I get a call from the same person and I answer and they tell me they left a voicemail why didn't I call them back. So I did a little test and left a voicemail for myself from another phone and I never got it pushed to the phone.
I can't hear any of my voicemails unless I hold down 1 and call my voicemail.
I was on the phone with a at&t rep for about 30mins and then a technical support rep for about 30 more mins but they could not find the problem.
Does anyone have the same problem anyone have a solution?
I already tried checking the General->Network but I have no tab for Cellular Data Network
And I tried deleting a "Profile" in the General menu but I have no profile to delete.
Any help would be appreciated, please

I was having the same problem with not getting my voicemail. I switched to 3G and it solved the problem, if on the edge network no voicemail. Why is it every update comes with problems? Very frustrating...

My macbook seems to be going crazy. At certain points (and for hours) I get the oh snap page on chrome, safari doesnt work, macbook wont let me create any files or for example upload music to itunes. I restored my mac so im sure its not a malware problem.

This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of Steps 1 and 2.

I have the exact same problem trying to use the Remote app on both my iPhone 3gs and iPad 2 with either my Mac or ATV2. My Remote app used to work on my phone - I can't recall if I ever actually used it with my iPad, but when I tried today, I got all the same results as you did (on both iPad, and then iPhone). I was using my ATV2 to play music from iTunes on my Mac and wanted to use the Remote app, but it would not connect to either device no matter what I did.

The Game Center app is pre installed and cannot be removed from the device.
Best thing to do is move it to the last available screen.
Hold down the Game Center app until all the apps jiggle then sliide the Game Center app to the right from one screen to the next. This requires a bit of finesse, but it's doable.
Press the Home button one time to stop the apps from jiggling.
For the Apple ID issue, try resetting.
Tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings
Then try your Apple ID and password for the Game Center app.
