Not a valid Network Installation Point

Post Author: BGardner
CA Forum: General
This one is obscure but I hope that someone will recognize it. It doesn't appear on any searches.
Crystal 8.5 was installed onto a client's server (used for custom reports in an accounting application). I was able to successfully run a Workstation installation to 2 or 3 PC's using P:\ as the Network Installation Point.
But now the Workstation install fails and returns the message "The directory P:\ is not a valid Network Installation Point - it does not contain the Crystal Reports network files."
Notes:
The cause of the problem is that the server was replaced by a newer one
The new server has the same name and sharenames & drive mappings are identical
All files were copied from the old server to the new one
Everything else runs correctly, including CR on workstations previously installed
I reinstalled CR but with the same results
Server O/S is Windows 2003 on both servers.
Clearly there is something missing (or something that shouldn't be there!). Or could it somehow be a rights issue?
I'm stymied so all suggestions are welcome!  Thank you.

You don't specify the version number of 2.6. Is that Solaris 2.6 HW 5/98? Any earlier version of Solaris 2.6 will most likely not work.

  • HT5030 whem installing itunes i get this message "this installation package could not be opened. Verifiy that the package exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid windows installer package"

whem installing itunes on my mums new computer which is windows 7 i get this message everytime "this installation package could not be opened. Verifiy that the package exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid windows installer package"

    Let's check your Windows system.
    1.  Have you done all the important windows updates and service Packs on your system.  If not do it now.  START button, type in Windows Update and ENTER.  Select 'CHECK FOR UPDATES'
    2.  Let's check your Windows system files for possible file corruption
SCAN and repair possible Windows system file corruption:
Go to command prompt (START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES right mouse click "command prompt" and choose "Run as Administrator"
    type in
    sfc /scannow
let Windows fix any system files that need to be repaired.
Restart the computer if it did actually repair any files.
    3.  Check your system for possible Malware.  But you have to do it in WIndows Safe Mode.
Start your computer in "Safe mode with networking", go to this link download a free version of Malwarebyte.
    http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free
Install and perform update immediately, then do a full SCAN. Remove malware if it indeed finds any. Restart computer to regular windows to let Malwarebyte complete the removal.
To start your computer in safe mode
Press and hold the F8 key as your computer starts. You need to press F8 before the Windows logo appears. If the Windows logo appears, you'll need to try again by waiting until the Windows logon prompt appears, and then shutting down and restarting your computer.
On the Advanced Boot Options screen, use the arrow keys to highlight the "safe mode with networking" option, and then press Enter. Log on to your computer with a user account that has administrator rights.
When your computer is in safe mode, you'll see the words Safe Mode in the corners of your screen. To exit safe mode, restart your computer and let Windows start normally.

  • This installation package could not be opened. Verify that the package exists and that you can access it, or contact the applikcation vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer package." How to fix this installation error?

Does anyone know, how to fix  ' This installation package could not be opened. Verify that the package exists and that you can access it, or contact the applikcation vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer package." ?

At what point in the process are you getting this message? Have you tried downloading a fresh copy of the iTunes setup file from http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/ ?
For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.

  • I cannot upgrade itunes 10.1 or higher on Windows xp. I get the file 'C:\...AppleSoftwareUpdate\' is not a valid installation pkg for the product iTunes. Try to find the installation pkg in a folder for which u can intsall iTunes. Can't find folder. Now ?

This is getting frustrating, it won't let me upgrade.  I get to a certain point where it tells me iTunes.msi is not a valid installation package for the product.
What do I need to do?  I have bought a new Ipod & I have to update before I can download to my Ipod.

Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from the following page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
To install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

  • Installation of Office Pro 2007 - Error is not a valid Win 32 application

I am using MS office Pro trial on widows 7 operating program and have just brought the full retail version.
When I insert the installation disc the program will not install, after about 5 minutes I get a message"
    *D:\is not a valid Win 32 application.*
The retail version I brought is certified for windows vista, I loaded on my PC which is running XP and the disc worked as should.( I did not go through with the install on the PC, I just tested the disc)
I copied onto a external hard drive and tried to load it from there. No go!
I even used my product key code on the trial program but it rejected it!
Any ideas out there would be most helpful

This may get round the problem if its related to "old" progs on your install disc. I used this method when installing Office 2007 with a packaging date of March 2007 in case it saved lots of product update downloads - worked perfectly but I still had 20+ updates downloaded after install.
If you have a reasonable broadband speed then [dowload the Office 2007 trial|http://us20.trymicrosoftoffice.com/default.aspx] . MS email and display a trial product key but when the download starts to run don't use this key but your own "full" version product key
Just re read your post - you are going from trial to full so what you do is follow MS instructions
Follow these steps to activate the trial:
Follow these steps to convert the trial:
You can convert from the trial software to a full-version either before or after your trial period ends.
    Before the trial period ends:
You will start receiving expiration reminder messages indicating the date when the trial will expire. At this point, you can convert to the full product in two ways:
    1. In any of the expiration reminder messages, click Convert, and then follow the steps in the conversion process, below.
    2. At any time during the trial period (or even after the trial has expired), you can open any of the Microsoft Office System products, and in the Help menu: click "Activate your software".
    After the trial period expires:
The software goes into reduced functionality mode. Some of the limitations of reduced functionality mode include the following:
    - You can not create any new files.
    - You can view existing files, but you can not modify them.
    - You can print files, but you can not save them.
