Not able to install mac os x server 10.5.4

Hello,
I've inherited a MAC g5 from a previous sys admin.
it had a number of issues so i decided to do a clean install.
i've set in my os x 10.5.4 server and rebooted that didn't work. when i chose the dvd it just hanged there.
so i installed a mac pro (came with the g5 ) as i've read in an online how to that described my exact problem. once done i tried installing the server again and same issue happened.
now i have mac pro on my g5.
after research it seems that my mac os x server 10.5.4 has another version which is older than the G5. so it cannot be installed.
i tried using a targeted mode though came into another set of trouble:
1. tried booting from the dvd using a macbook pro with a fire wire plugged into it.
result: macbook kept restarting when i chose the mac os x server
2. tried booting from dvd using an imac.
result: after choosing the dvd it hangs a bit and then boots normally from hardidisk.
3. picked an old IMAC and booted from it
result: it worked, and i installed the mac os x server on one of the HDD in my g5
once done, i've shut down both, unplugged firewire and then booted the G5
a grey screen appeared with another hdd in the middle of the screen and it just stayed there.
Can someone please advise how can i proceed?
PS: i've contacted the apple reseller, though as our support contract ended they couldn't help.

The retail disks I've seen in that era were usually black in color. The non-retail disks tended to be gray in color. IIRC, the part number for the 10.5.4 Mac OS X Server Leopard Server retail disk is MB605Z/A.
If it's not a retail disk, then the contents are usually tailored for a specific Mac box.
The MacBook Pro would have to be a fairly old model to boot 10.5.4; [here are the Mac Intel minimum OS version requirements (HT1159)|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1159], and (though there were no MBP PPC boxes AFAIK) [here are the PPC version requirements (HT2191)|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2191].
The "issues" that precipitated this reinstallation sequence could well be a disk or processor or memory or other hardware problem with the server, too.

    You speak about SAP Netweaver Studio? I suppose you mean Netweaver Developer Studio?
    Do you want to install a complete SAP System on your windows XP?? or only the Java part?

  • Not able to install or generate acs server certificate

    I have one test set-up with one layer 3 switch and one autonomous AP 1131. I have configured one SSID and without any authentication and it was not able to connect successfully.
    But now i want to try enable WPA2 enterprise ( Actually , after checking with the test set up , i am going to implement in live set-up where i have to configure WPA2 enterprise so that i would like to go for testing wpa2 enterprise not wpa2 personal ).
    I have ACS server 3.0 trial version and installed on windows server 2000 and
    on AP 1131 i have configured radius server commands
    ( aaa- new model  and radius server host ... ip address ... key ..... shared secret ... password .. ).
    I am confused with certificate which is required to install on acs server but i am not able to generate the certificate or not able to get the certificate from anywhere in acs server option.
    how to generate acs server certificate in trial version 3.0 and after generating how to install in acs server and what about client ... will it be same certificate which i need to install in cllient PC's and if yes how to add in client pc's and if not , where will i get cllient certificate ,..
    if i buy ACS software which i will be installed windows platform , i will get two certificate ,,,,,,,,, what about acs trial version software .... will i be able to get certificate .......
    i am trying to refer so many documents but it could not help me ..

    obivously , This ACS 3.0 is end of supprt but when i tried to install the acs 4.0 or later , I am not getting an error saying " basic platform should be installed first , that is ACS 3.0 ".
    That is the reason i have gone for this edition .
    Should i go for upgrading the acs 3.0 to 4.1 or later version ?
    if so , will it be possible on trail version ?
    please give me your suggestion.

    Just last week was installing IIS on W12R2 server and got stuck and found easy way of installing this as follow.
    when you start installing IIS and at the last step as i marked on red square confirmation. there you find
    export configuration settings..go to and export it to C drive and open Powershell by right clicking as open as administrator and run this from Powershell and it will install successfully.
    Please let me know if you are facing any issue, since this way it has to work.
    OR if you it already worked let me know or mark as correct.

    I am afraid you won't be able to install Mac OS X server on you Dell computer. There are technical reasons for that as well as legal reasons: according to the "Software License Agreement for Mac OS X Server":
    "This License allows you to install and use one copy of the Mac OS X Server software (the “Mac OS X Server Software”) on a single Apple-labeled computer at a time."

    It means the software is PowerPC code, which is no longer supported in Lion. Your choices are to go back to Snow Leopard, run Snow Leopard Server in a virtual machine within Lion, see if the vendor has an updated version of National Geographic that will run on an Intel Mac, or run the software on an older Mac separately.

    FaceTime is included in Lion. The App Store version is for 10.6. If you deleted it, restore it from a backup, or reinstall the Mac OS.

    That crash appears to be casued by the Facebook plug-in.
    Create a new account (systempreferences -> accounts or Users & Groups on 10.7 and 10.8), make a new Library in that account, import some shots  and see if the problem is repeated there. If it is, then a re-install of the app might be indicated. If it's not, then it's likely the app is okay and the problem is something in the main account.

  • Garageband was not able to install the new sounds

    I'm on an iMac 21.5-inch (mid 2011) running Yosemite; 2.5 GHz Intel Core i5; 4GB memory.
    A few months ago, I uninstalled GarageBand. Now I'm trying to reinstall it. I can get GarageBand 6 reinstalled, but I would like to get working with the latest version. I'm able to download the latest version from the App Store with no issue. It installs with no issue.
    When I open it, it thanks for me downloading it, and then begins to download "an essential collection of sounds and loops." After a bit of downloading, it asks for my admin password; I enter it, and a few seconds later, it gives the error: "GarageBand was not able to install the new sounds. Close and re-open GarageBand to download and install them again." Closing and reopening GarageBand just takes me through the same loop (no pun intended). When the window is open, if I click on the GarageBand menu in the Apple bar, nothing happens.
    It does not ask me to accept anything; I am signed into the App Store with the same Apple ID I have always used (it is the only one I have ever had, so that's not the issue). I am an admin on my Mac, so it's not a permissions issue. It's not a password issue either.
    Things I have tried:
    Rebooting into Safe Boot and opening from there; same issue.
    Repaired permissions (it fixed oodles of things completely unrelated to GarageBand); same issue.
    Creating a new admin profile and opening from there; it gives a different error, but the effect is the same.
    Removed the program, trashed anything remotely related to GarageBand (preferences, folders, etc), emptied the trash, restarted the computer, reinstalled; same issue.
    Installed GarageBand on top of itself, just in case; same issue.
    I can't think of what else to try. Help!

    The solution Lijoesat posted above worked for me!
    First I found the private/var/folders/ (and then lots of gibberish folders) and singled out two garageband files and deleted them. This did not work.
    I then deleted everything which may or may not be a good thing, I am an idiot, I have no idea if these are extremely important files or not!
    I tried to empty the trash bin after but many files was locked and Garageband would still not install.
    I did a restart of the computer, emptied the bin successfully and tried to install Garageband again and it worked fine!
    The inserted picture show some of the folder structure, I deleted everything after private/var/folders/

  • Not able to install Intellisync on Windows Mobile 6.1

    We have got GMS 3.0.1 running on Linux and GW 8.0.2.
    On my HTC Touch Diamond (Windows Mobile 6.1) I am not able to install Intellisync. I'm sending the Intellisync_setup (Microsoft Smartphone OS-Devices) via SMS. On my mobile device I tried either opening the link directly (default opens with Opera Mobile) or pasting it into Internet Explorer. In Opera is shown a message that the certificate of the server does not fit to the hostname. But certificate and hostname are exactly the same. It is a self-issued certificate by the way. I click on the accept button and select "Windows Mobile Smartpone" from the list. Then I select install on device. Installation starts... In the middle of "downloading package ..." I get: "Install Error: Connection problem. Please try again later, or contact your system administrator." After confirming with OK the installation window closes. I reboot the mobile device and there is the Intellisync Install window where I can enter server and credentials. After entering the servername and credentials I get the message: "A secure connection could not be established. Check your connection settings, or contact your system administrator" --> Ok --> "Authentication failed. Please try again." --> OK.
    If I enter the same servername with https and same credentials over Opera or Internet Explorer I can access the GMS without any problems.
    Have you got any ideas?
