Not able to purchase from iTunes

I have been trying to purchase from iTunes all week but have gotten the message +"The iTunes store is unable to process purchase at this time. Payment processing is temporarily unavailable. You may continue to browse the store. Please try to make your purchase later."+ Now I also happen to be able to access the iTunes store in the US and had no problem making a purchase. Has anyone been able to contact Apple to find out what the problem is with the Australian store or for that matter is anyone else having the same issue? I sent a message to apple using the support center but have yet to receive a reply. any input would be appreciated

There are times when the computer says its one thing, but its always not what it says. I would say just troubleshoot... Like log out of your account then log back in. Trash the iTunes cache in User Name>Library>Cache. Empty the iTunes cache folder. And delete the iTunes preferences in User Name>Library>Preferences. Delete the file "com.apple.itunes.plist". Hopefully those will solve the problem.

If I try and register as new on the Fr website and if I put my own email, they tell me that I am already registered and should login.     You can purchase ONLY from the itunes store of your country of residence ( as proven by the valid billing address on your credit card) and ONLY while inside the borders of that country.

    Thanks for yoursuggestions. I did see that article, tried correcting the permissions, looked at a few of the other things, but this doesn't make sense. This would only be the second computer that had these purchased songs on them. SO the 5 computer limit should have nothing to do with it.
    The weird thing is how the computer tells me that it's not authorized to play the purchased songs and gives me the opportunity to put in either an AOL code or an Apple ID code to authorize this computer to play the song. I do it. I get a message that, congratulations, the computer has been successfully authorized to play the song. But then it simply does not play and when you try to play it it just recycles right back to the original message saying that the computer is not authorized.

    I downloaded the iPhoto 6.0.6 update and the iTunes 7.1.1 update, and now when I try to add any of the songs from my iTunes library which I have purchased from the iTunes store to one of my Iphoto slideshows, it says that my computer is not authorised to play the song (even though it is - i.e. the songs still play on iTunes). The same problem does not occur with songs in my library not purchased from iTunes.
    I also had no such problems before I downloaded the updates. Very annoying. Any answers?

    Actually, Apple does list the QuickTime requirement, but you have to look for it. Updates do not usually require other updates (although lately some of them have). However, when you upgraded from iTunes 6 to iTunes 7, you caused your Mac to need the system requirements for the upgrade. They are listed here http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/ on the Apple Download iTunes 7 page. Notice under "Additional video requirements" where it says QuickTime 7.1.5 or later, which links to the update page for QuickTime.
    I agree it would be nice if they made it more obvious. It is a good idea to get into the habit of checking system requirements before upgrading any software, to avoid exactly this kind of surprise.

    iPod does not play content purchased from the iTMS.
    If you have made sure that both the iTunes and iPod software are current and have deauthorized and reauthorized your computer, try this test:
    1. Deauthorize the computer.
    2. Create a new user in the system.
    3. Download the free song of the week from the iTMS in the new user account.
    4. Play the song in that user account to authorize again.
    5. Restore the iPod (using the iPod updater) in the new user account.
    6. Sync just the free song of the week and see if it plays on the iPod.
    If it does, you appear to have a corrupted iTunes library file, and you should recreate the iTunes library file in your normal user account, and then sync your music back to the iPod and all should be well.

    This just happened to me on one song I purchased from iTunes (it plays fine on iTunes on my MacBook). I'm on iTunes 8.0 (haven't yet upgraded to newest version). Everything else works fine so should I do this for only one song - or is there another easier fix? I did copy the song to a cd so would it work if I just deleted the one song and imported it? Or is this a sign of a deeper problem?

    Just transferred myself from my flat panel imac to a new powerbook & Tiger - updated to 10.4.2. In itunes, all seemed to be working fine till I noticed that music I purchased in the Apple itunes music store would not play!     I get the error message that the playlists designated to be updated no longer exist.
    while the ipod is connected and showing up in your itunes sourcelist, go "edit > preferences" and click on your "ipod" tab.
    you currently have "automatically update selected playlists only" engaged in there. scroll through the list of playlists in there, comparing them with the playlists that show up in your itunes sourcelist. if you find any that no longer exist in your itunes sourcelist, uncheck them. click OK.
