Not able to see menu bar and dock after maximizing.

Prior to installing Yosemite, maximizing a window left the menu bar and dock visible; with Yosemite they are no longer visible.  How do I reset this?

Moving the mouse pointer to top or bottom of screen (assuming menu at top and dock at bottom), should display them.
Or, Control/Command/F   combination.

  • Apple script to enable/disable dark menu bar and dock when sunsets/sunrises

    Greetings,
Regarding the new dark menu bar and dock function in Yosemite. Would it be possible to write a script that would enable this function at a certain time say sunset and to disable it at another time say sunrise?
If so, is there anybody who could possibly help me write such a script or atlas point me in the right direction please?
    Many thanks in advance
    G_D

Although you can set or remove the Dark interface style with defaults write syntax, the reset back to default (non-dark) interface will require a log-out/log-in cycle to entirely remove the Dark style. Toggling this style on and off in the System Preferences > General panel does not require the preceding log-out disruption. Unfortunately, other than possible GUI scripting, the Apple Script dictionary in Yosemite is very limited with respect to System Preferences access, and enabling/disabling the dark interface style.

  • How to hide the menu bar and Dock

Howto hide the menu bar and Dock on Mac, I found a tutorial that addfunctions esto info.plist this
    <key> LSUIPresentationMode </ key>
    <integer> 4 </ integer>
But does not work  which you know another way to do this?

I have played with 'LSUIPresentationMode' in the past - I may be wrong but I think a value of "1" (and "2" for that matter) only really works in combination with 'LSUIElement' set to a string value of "1". The 'LSUIElement' property of course does away with the application's own menu items so isn't ideal for most applications and since you mentioned using "1" instead of "4", I assume you want your menu items visible all the time.

  • Can't change back to white menu bar and dock

When I uncheck the box, it just stays with the dark menu bar and dock.
How can i make it change again? I'm running the latest version of Yosemite 10.10.2

    Do a backup.
    Quit the application System Preferences.
Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J.  When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder.  Select Library. Then go to Preferences/com.apple.systempreferences.plist. Move the .plist to your desktop.
Restart the computer, open the application and test. If it works okay, delete the plist from the desktop.
If the application is the same, return the .plist to where you got it from, overwriting the newer one.

  • Missing desktop icons, menu bar and dock

I have a my G5 Dual 2.7 Ghz, I am currently using Tiger 10.4.10. As of yesterday it had been running great, but this morning I turned it on and logged in as usual. The problem is it the computer only shows my desktop image, but no menu bar, icons, dock, etc..
I have re started it 3 times with no luck. Thank you so much before hand for any input that might be helpful

Have you tried a bit of basic maintenance?
Repairing permissions is important, and should always be carried out both before and after any software installation or update.
Go to Disk Utility (this is in your Utilities Folder in your Application folder) and click on the icon of your hard disk (not the one with all the numbers).
In First Aid, click on Repair Permissions.
This only takes a minute or two in Tiger, but much longer in Leopard.

An article on troubleshooting Permissions can be found here:

By the way, you can ignore any messages about SUID or ACL file permissions, as explained here:

If you were having any serious problems with your Mac you might as well complete the exercise by repairing your hard disk as well. You cannot do this from the same start-up disk. Reboot from your install disk (holding down the C key). Once it opens, select your language, and then go to Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Select your hard disk as before and click Repair.
Once that is complete reboot again from your usual start-up disk.

  • Ever since I updated to OSX 10.9.3 the menu bar and dock keep hiding. How can I disable this?

I updated to OSX 10.9.3 and now the top menu bars and the dock always hide. I always have to click at the top to get them to show again. I wan't to see them all the time as before. Any solutions? Btw. my automatically hide and show dock option from the dock options menu is disabled, but everything keeps hiding.

They hide when you use an App in Full Screen mode
Go to the top of the display and force the menu bar to be revealed and click on the blue full screen icon, to take it out if that mode

  • How to disable menu bar and dock when playing a full screen game? Like sims 4

i play sims 4 on my MacBook pro and if I go to close to the bottom of the screen or the top the menu bar or dock pops up I was wondering if there is A program or a setting I can use to disable that while in something full screen or gaming

The game itself should already have the option for full screen. But you can go to system preferences dock and check the hid dock option. Then you would have to go to the very edge of the screen to get the dock to reappear.

  • Not able to see published task and not able to reset version for the task

    Hi,
Created a task ,validated,by selecting the task clicked Publish button in tools to publish the task.
    In Client Application(Callcenter) navigated Administration-Business Process->Task Deployment
Here not able to see published task to activate.
Tried twice by copying record but not able to see.
I am not able to reset version for the task created.
Could you please let me know how to overcome these.
    Using sample database of siebel8.0.0.5
    Thank you

    Hi Dude,
To trobleshoot this you need to do the following steps:
    1) cross check in tools the srf which you are compling , the same srf should be used by the clent application i.e. call center
    2) the secound thing is in the Siebel tools there is a toolbar at the top, from where you have published the task, there beside you will find a button called Revise you can revise you task, first select task and click revise button.
    3) and also you remember a task which you create is validated by right clicking the task record and choose validate.
    4) remember, a task which you create should be registered same as like responsibilities, by navigating to Administration-Applicatrion > Task
Register the task with same name as you have used in Siebel Tools.
As, for best practices after creating a task first validate it, then after register it in Administration-Applicatrion > Task , then after toolbar there is a button callled publish and activate click that one .
    and that's All.

  • Macbook pro.minimize button is inactive. Finder menu bar and dock won't appear when firefox is open. not occuring with safari. have to click on desktop to get Finder menu bar and dock to reappear. think happens after update of something. How do I fix it?

When i open firefox it opens up full screen (as it always has) but now the minimize button is grey (not yellow) and inactive so i can only open (green button) or close (red button) my firefox window. I can still make it smaller by dragging the bottom right corner but i can't minimize it to my dock or anything. Also, I have my dock set to auto show/hide when i roll my pointer over it. Now, whenever Firefox is open (no matter what size the window is) the Finder menu bar (with the time, battery power, etc) does not show up (which it always has before) and my dock won't auto appear when i roll my pointer over it.

Can you check this issue on Firefox 9?

  • Do not show the Mac menu bar and the Dock in full-screen mode option not available

"Remote Desktop Connection" for mac has an option to
hide the menu bar in full screen mode.  I am unable to locate this option in the new
Microsoft Remote Desktop.  Without this option the remote desktop connection bar becomes completely inaccessible.  And since the old "remote desktop connection" program has poor support for windows 8.1 I cannot go back.
Is there a workaround?  Can you please add this important feature back in?

    H,
I am afraid that we have no solution or workaround for this. I will help to submit this as a customer wish to the product team.

  • Menu Bar and dock problems - MenuBar won't highlight and Dock freezes

Just started having this problem - but had it with Leopard and not sure what I did to fix it. Suddenly the Magnified Dock is freezing - won't slide along with the mouse pointer. Also the menu bar won't highlight the choices of a drop-down menu...
I've tried restarting many times - no change. I believe I have to trash a preference file - but not sure which one! This is almost like when I had the Logitech software installed - but that's gone and trashed - so that cannot be the cause.
Sometimes the curser remains a separation line instead of moving to a pointer or the hand - there are several things related here I believe.
Thanks for any help - or if you need more info, let me know. This is really annoying and I'd like to restore this soon!

Things are definitely still not right.
The most disturbing thing is Finder not responding ("The application Finder.app can't be opened." with code -10810), and not relaunching when killed from either Force Quite or the Activity Monitor. Also Aperture would simply fail to start (just startup then freeze with 'not responding') and after a couple of freezes it did start up ok.
I did a bunch of 'housekeeping' uninstalls including Adium, which I'd recently installed, and Chrome (as well as a bunch of random apps that I don't use) and it seemed to have only improved stability - it's still screwing up pretty randomly.
I reinstalled Chrome and still seems to be ok (Aperture still starting ok), although I can't really say I trust it as Aperture did fail a couple of times before it started ok (I didn't keep a strict log of exactly what sequence of uninstalls/reinstalls/reboots I carried out), and also iTunes froze as well, although that too has now started ok - I don't use it regularly so I haven't started it since then.
Basically now that everything's running I haven't done much else to experiment.
Doh! Stupidly I've just started iTunes again "just to see" and it's frozen, along with Finder. (*£&$ing ****!!!!!! (This is on the iMac - everything else is still running, and if you're reading this then I was still able to post it from Chrome.)
Something is definitely wrong with my system(s). I guess I'll leave it a week or so and see if an update comes out before I take the Macbook Pro to a Genius bar somewhere for a rant.

  • Menu bar and Dock disappear after exiting Time Machine

Time Machine has worked absolutely fine for almost a week. A few hours ago I clicked the icon on my dock to see how many incremental backups it had made today, and everything seemed fine. However, when I click cancel now and the desktop comes back, the dock completely disappears. The menu bar is about halfway to being functional: The shadow appears, but it does not lighten my desktop picture behind it anymore. All the menus are gone, except for those for Bluetooth, AirPort, the clock, etc. I can still open Finder windows by double-clicking the folders on my desktop, but most -- if not all -- keyboard shortcuts are rendered inoperable. They mostly just produce the default error sound, and control-F2 simply highlights a very small invisible box in the top-left corner of the screen. I can also no longer open any applications, and any applications I already had open I can't select.
The only way out was to force a shutdown, but if I try to use Time Machine in the Finder this problem keeps recurring. (It works perfectly in iPhoto.) Also, now if I try to back up Time Machine hangs while "Preparing". I have spent the last hour trying whatever I could think of and also wailing like a child. Please help!

Just a thought....this is not a problem with my MacBook on which I installed a new version of 10.5.
The problem only manifests itself on my iMac at work which I updated using a Drop-in Leopard DVD.
Do you think this could be the problem? Anyone out there having problems that did a retail 10.5 install?
I just re-installed Leopard from the drop-in DVD and first time I opened Mail and went to Time Machine it seemed to be working....it gave me the starry background and asked me to select items to restore to the Inbox. But then it failed to restore the selected messages and I'm back to where I started with a non-working Time Machine in Mail.

  • Hidden Menu Bar and Dock

Hello - I am working on my family's iMac at home, and one of my family members mentioned how someone must have "pressed something weird" because now either the menu bar at the top of the screen or the dock are hidden, one or the other. If I scroll toward the upward part of the screen then the display shifts down and the menu bar is shown while the dock is hidden. If i scroll toward the bottom of the screen, the exact opposite happens.
I checked in System Preferences and the "Automatically hide and show dock" is NOT checked like I thought might be the case. Does anyone have any idea how to fix this?
    Thank you!

Your welcome and thank you for the star.

  • Please help. The Finder has crashed I guess, no icons on the desktop, menu bar and dock flicking. Can't open any app, folder or even do a right click.

Good day, I could really need some information. Thank you in advance.
    I have a 2008 24" iMac, running on 10.5.8.
I want to describe the whole issue. The only thing that changed in my routine and made it crash was that I bought a new Apple keyboard, with a wire this time, before I was using a bluetooth one, and a new wireless Logitech mouse. After I successfuly connected both, while browsing in Safari, the computer totally lagged. All I could do was to manually restart it. When I started it again, it said that the "ruby" application has quited unnexpectedly. After clicking ignore, I observed that the icons on desktop haven't loaded, the menu bar is constantly reopening itself, I can't right click, if I try to open Sistem Preferences that is as far as it will allow me to go, if I click anything else than, it closes system Pref. and leaves me again with this flicking menu bar, which of course I can't even click and an empty desktop. I couldn't see if the problem is only related to my user, as there is only 1 user on it. I tried to create a new one, but I get the problem mentioned above.
I try to see here on the forum if other people have had the same problem, but what I got was minor cases, they can still use finder or an app, everytime I open something, it dies and I only can restart the poor thing
I hope I don't have to delete all my info on my drive, that would be a big problem for me.
    Solutions, recommendations?
    Thank you.

    Hi Paul,
One way to test is to Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, Test for problem in Safe Mode...
Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive
    Reboot, test again.
If it only does it in Regular Boot, then it could be some hardware problem like Video card, (Quartz is turned off in Safe Mode), or Airport, or some USB or Firewire device, or 3rd party add-on, Check System Preferences>Accounts (Users & Groups in later OSX versions)>Login Items window to see if it or something relevant is listed. Or an errant process eating up RAM.
Check the System Preferences>Other Row, for 3rd party Pref Panes.
Also look in these if they exist, some are invisible...

  • Why is the menu bar and dock staying on top when trying to watch videos on Safari/Chrome?

I just re-installed OS X Yosemite on my macbook pro. When i try to full screen videos (such as Netflix) on Safari, Chrome, etc. the menu bar stays on top of the screen, as well as the dock. The only work around is to open the browser in full screen and then hit full screen when watching the video. This was never the case before on Yosemite or other OS X versions....
    Thanks!
