Not all RAW images are imported

I have CS5 and use a Lumix FZ150.  The native format of the RAW images on the camera is RW2.  When I try to open these in CS5, some are opened some do not.  The pics that open, open in Camera RAW.  The others give me an error message, that my camera is not supported?
Any ideas as to what the problem is.

The FZ150 RW2 files should open in ACR 6.5 thru ACR 6.7 for CS5.   If you are not use ACR 6.7 you might try that, first, in case there was some issue that was corrected in later versions.
If you are already using that version, then the files may be corrupt.  It could be a bad memory card, bad card reader/cable or even a bad hard-drive on the computer.  You might try transferring the bad files, again, from the memory card, perhaps using a different method (camera-connected-cable vs card-reader) and see if they work a second time.  If not, then the memory card may be bad.  If the files transfer ok a second time, then something besides the memory card is bad.
If nothing you do works, then perhaps the camera is writing the files in a different mode that Adobe doesn’t support.  I am not familiar with your camera to know what that might be, but some cameras write smaller raw formats or HDR raw formats and maybe Adobe doesn’t decode everything.
If you can’t figure it out, then you can try posting a bad file, here, so others can take a look.  The way to do that would be to upload the raw file (or preferably a ZIP of the raw file) to a large-file hosting service like www.dropbox.com or www.skydrive.com or www.wetransfer.com or www.yousendit.com and then post the public download link in a reply, here.

  • Keeping Photoshop Raw Image Adjustments When Images Are Imported

I've got a bunch of raw images that have been adjusted in Photoshop. When these raw images are imported into Aperture, all the data stored in the .xmp files are stripped out, meaning the raw files are imported without any adjustments. Is there a way to import raw images so they retain the adjustments that have been made in Photoshop? I hope so. The idea of importing all my raw files into Aperture and having to readjust every single image is unthinkable.

With all due respect, I do "want" desperately to be able to use Aperture as a RAW converter-good workflow.
Sure... different meanings of "want". I "want" Aperture to be usable for that, but in its present state, you don't "want" to use it, because it's not very good at it. I tried a number of different pictures; it ranges from "okay" to "astoundingly bad", depending on the subject matter. In no case does it approach Adobe Camera Raw in quality; but it is not hideous in all cases.
Take a bunch of your own pictures and burn them to a CD, both RAW files and edited versions. Bring the CD to an Apple Store, sit down, and have a go at Aperture. In my case, it was the final thing that saved me the money of buying the software.
As a "better iPhoto" I think it's a winner. But it is, by no stretch of the imagination, a "professional" photography application. If it were a $50 replacement for iPhoto I'd probably have already bought it. It could be useful from an organization standpoint -- except for the fact that it can't read many of my Photoshop PSD files at all since they are in LAB color mode.

  • Imported RAW images are too dark

I'm using Aperture2.0.1 and importing RAW images from a Canon 1D MkIII. All the images are coming in significantly darker than they show in the camera's display. The camera's histogram shows that the images are correctly exposed but they require boosting in Aperture's Exposure panel of anywhere from + 1.15 to 1.5 before they look right in Aperture. That's quite a hefty shift. I get a similar situation in Capture One Pro but the same images right off the card look bang on in Canon's Digital Photo Professional. In Adobe Lightroom it takes a shift of only +.5 to get into the right range. The exposure settings for the test were done with a Sekonic L-758DR meter and manually setting 3 580EX's but the problem shows up in all kinds of garden variety shots with or without flash. My preferred app is Aperture but I'm sick of having to adjust all my shots to get them into range.
Is there something I'm missing here?
    Thanks,
    Geoff

AMAZING!! Thanks for solving this mystery for me. Disabled the Highlight Priority and the shot comes into aperture looking like I it needs no adjustment. There are some clipped peaks in the histogram so there are some minor blown highlights. If I use Highlight Priority, it prevents the clipping and when I adjust the exposure level in Aperture the shot does look right without losing the highlight so Highlight Priority may be the right way to go when I'm shooting jewelry. But your post explains why the images were darkened.
    Thanks again,
    Geoff

One thing, don;t think of them as being imported in any one particular order.
The order of the images is completely fluid, you can change it anytime you want to suit your needs at that particular moment.
As Léonie showed you select the order you want to see the images in by selecting the item you want to sort on in the pull-down.
The only time fluid sort order can be a problem is when you export groups of images. If you put the images into a particular order in Aperture when you export them and view them in the Finder the order they are in may very well be different. In this case you could give names to the images that include a sequence number or index.
Then when they are viewd in the Finder they will be in them same order they were in in Aperture.

  • How to Delete imported JPEGS after matching RAW files are imported as masters

Using a 5D Mark III and shoot JPEG (SD) and RAW (CF).
Aperture 3.5.1, using a managed library
Perviously, using a 7D so new to shooting JPEG and RAWs from an aperture Aperture workflow standpoint.
I know that i can import the JPEGs > delete images that do not make the cut > then import the matching RAW files in the import dialogue that correspond to the JPEGs in the Aperture Library.
I use the RAW files as my Camera Master images and once the RAW files are imported, the smaller resolution JPEGs are no longer needed or viewed in my normal edit workflow.  I only need the JPEGs to quickly go through the images to find out which RAW files i need to import at a later time to increase the speed of import > edit > deliver.
    My Assumptions:
    1.  Logic would lead me to believe that after import the user should see a stack like image representation with whatever file type is considered Master to be on top and the viewable secondary file type on the bottom.  clicking on the image stack should allow you to see both file types as you would normally see with image stacks with the same files types.  This is not the case...  What am i missing here?
    2.  Logic again would lead me to believe that when i have the ability to delete one of the 2 image types as i do not need both in the end.  After the import process is complete and RAWs are backed up, I want to delete the JPEG files as they are just taking up more space on my DAS drive array...  There is no need to keep a duplicate of every file in both JPEG and RAW format.  This is not the case as when i delete the JPEG or RAW, both files formats are deleted simultaneously.  What am i missing here?
    Problems: (correspond to Assumptions above)
    1.  I do not seem to have access to both images (JPEG & RAW) in a stack where i can expand and close the stack to see both?  It seems like i only have access to the image type i have selected as Master?  This seems counter intuitive to what the workflow should be as why would aperture 'lock the secondary file types away' so you can't easily view both file types as the same time for comparison?
2a.  Reality seems to be that i do not have access to the JPEG and RAW image files.  I can only see one at a time by selecting the images and choosing 'make JPEG master’ and then respectively... 'make RAW master', but you can't see both at the same time for file comparison.
2b.  Also, I can't find a way to delete the JPEG images after the RAW files have been imported.  I would presume most professional photographers shoot RAW and do not shoot JPEG as their camera master or editing master images.  I do not understand why aperture has captured both as a pair in the library that does not allow me to delete the JPEG (in this case) as i have selected the RAW as my master.
If someone can please help...  The function seems like either i am missing something obvious or that the implemented function of using RAW + JPEGs files for import is broken from a real world workflow standpoint.

    leonie...
thank you for clearing that up for me.
I think that at this point it is silly to use the JPEG+RAW import functionality as it seems that it takes longer to do the above steps than to just import only the RAW files and press on from there.
I seems what i have done in the past of only importing the RAW files and then using the quick preview functionality to reduce image load times is the best thing in can come up with without keeping 'duplicates' in the database.
That really baffels me that there is no built in functionality to remove the JPEG from a RAW+JPEG pair and i wonder how the real world photographers who help Apple test and implement software to solve real world workflow problems thought the JPEG+RAW import was going to be used.
I do understand that i can use a smaller JPEG file size to reduce the bloat of the database, but used over hundreds of thousands of images is certainly going to make a dent in my total aperture database size and therefore storage needs down the road.
If you have any other workflow thoughts, or know of a 3rd party plugin/ etc... to fix this obvious shortcoming then i am all ears..
thank you again Leonie and have a great week

  • Settings added when when images are imported

When I import images into Lightroom3 the images have already been tweaked.  How do I turn off the setting as the images are imported?  Second, when I attempt to send images to Photoshop for editing Lightroom makes a copy, how can I stop this fom happening?

Two things to avoid that LR applies "tweaking" on import.
    1) Make sure that the <Apply Auto-tone adjustments> box is unchecked. You find it under <Preferences> in the <Presets tab>.
    2) In the Import Dialog on the right hand side, in the panel <Apply During Import>, make sure that <Develop Settings> shows <None>.
There is no way to avoid making a copy when you open a RAW-file in PS. PS can not save a file as a true RAW-file; there is a Photoshop-RAW but that is not a true RAW-file like the one that your camera creates.Since PS can save your edits only in a different format than true RAW, by necessity a copy has to be made.
If you have JPG's in LR (or TIFFs or PSD's) and want to edit them in PS, you can choose <Open Original> and then no copy is made. But when you open these as <Edit a Copy with LR Adjustments> then again a copy is made.

I have Iphoto '09, version 8.1.2 (424). I am having an identical problem.  All my pictures are imported into Iphoto when I downloaded them from my camera.  Until recently, I thought that the pictures were actually saved in the library.  Since I need to crop my pictures for the web, and Iphoto doesn't do that, I purchased Photoshop Elements to do that.  To my surprise, when I try to get a picture from Iphoto to Photoshop, it can't be done. That was when I realized, after wasting a lot of time, that the photos are not in the Iphoto library.
I started naming the pictures on Iphoto so I had a recognizable file name to open on Photoshop. Couldn't find it.  I looked in the Backup folder and the Transfer software folder (I have a Nikon camera), and the names I entered in the Iphoto display, could not be found.
When I am trying to upload a photo to the web, I get the Finder folder showing  with an active folder called "Photos" under "Media", which only displays Iphoto and PhotoBooth.  This is a folder name that I cannot find in my HD anywhere when I look for it.  If I edit a picture with Photoshop, I am not going to save it back to Iphoto (not sure whether it will work properly).  How do I get my folder of edited photos to show when I want to upload a picture to the web?
Where (the name of the folder) do I find the pictures I see displayed on the Iphoto library, including any name changes, keywords added, and so on?

  • After using PS CS6 for well over a year, Bridge now will not open RAW images in Camera Raw, although

After using PS CS6 for well over a year, Bridge now will not open RAW images in Camera Raw, although Photoshop does. When I try to open them in Bridge, I receive a popup message that says that it "requires that a qualifying product has been launched at least once to enable this feature." Obviously, I have done so hundreds of times since installing and activating CS6. What gives, and how do I fix it?

Things have now become significantly worse!
Now when I try to open anything from Bridge, or try to open PhotoShop at all, I receive a popup that gives me 2 options: 1) License PS CC, or 2) continue with my trial of PS CC.
So far as I know, I have not downloaded any trial of anything from Adobe in many months. In fact, I have no interest in PS CC. I wish simply to use PS CS6.
I have uninstalled my Adobe Creative Suite 6 Design Standard, of which my PS CS is a part, and reinstalled it but I still am blocked from using my properly licensed programs.
    Please advise.

  • Hi all, when I open a New Tab pg all the images are blank - I've tried clicking on the blank images, & dragging a link from the Bookmarks, without success!

I want to achieve at least one of two things: either set New Tabs to open with Google automatically; or at least, to have Google pinned to the New Tab page. (Google is my home page.) When a new page opens, all the images are blank. I've read through the Help pages & tried various things. I've tried dragging Google from the Bookmarks to the New Tab, but this only opens Google. I've tried clicking on the blank images, but nothing happens. I've toggled the blank images off for now, so at least I don't need to look at them. I am doing a university course online, so efficiency is really important to me! Those extra clicks really add up & distract!... Thanks in advance :)

  • OTL Time Cards to PA Integration. - All Time cards are imported into One OU

    Hi,
At our site, we have implemented OTL to support PA. (No Payroll/HRMS).
We have created multiple selfservice Time Resp for each Operating Units. The MO Operating Unit for the responsibility is set to corresponding OU for each responsibility.
    The issue is that,
When the Time cards are approved and the PRC: Transaction Import is ran for each operating unit (again difft responsibility for each OU), it is not importing the time cards into the respective OU in PA. Rather When we run the PRC: Transaction Import in US operating unit, all the Timecards are imported in the US OU.
We found, For all the OTL time cards, the ATTRIBUTE1 for the "SECURITY" Attribute category is 84 (which is US OU) in hxc_time_attributes table.
which configruation controls this ? Why the MO: Operating Unit is not used to populate the value or is there any other profile which needs to be set to get the right OU?
Any help on this is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks
    Chidambaram

Please check and confirm whether you have the profile 'HR:Business Group' set to corresponding BGs for the respective time entry responsibilities.

  • Not all selected images open in photoshop

I have lightroom 3 and cs5. When I select images from lightroom and open in photoshop sometimes not all of the selected images open. It might miss a random image or 2 or 3. All the images are clearly highlighted to open and lightroom confirms the correct amount with "selected images". Obviously driving me mad as I have to go back and try to figure out which image is missing from say 20 or 30 images.
    Any ideas greatly appreciated

I have the same exact problem as the OP.
Also running OS X 10.6.4. and have 12Gb RAM. I also usually open ~50 images at a time to edit in PS CS5 and there are always a random ~5 that don't open. I tried opening a smaller number of files (~25) and still I get about 5 not showing up.
I don't think this has to do with bottlenecks, looks more like a bug. The files that won't open, are for some reason scattered, not for example the last 5 chosen or last 5 in the grid. I rebuilt and optimised the cat. several times, and always work with just LR3 and PS CS5 running, so no other progs are hogging the system resources.
I'm finding LR3 very frustrating and despite the new features are great, it is more buggy and unpredictable than LR2.
Are you all using the latest 3.2 RC? There was a bug in LR3 where files with an '&' in the file/foldername (or a few other characters) would not open in Photoshop. That has been cured in 3.2RC.

Most likely, you've tripped over the PSE 6 bug in handling raw files. See solutions 2 and 3 of this Adobe tech note:

  • PowerMac G4 OS 10.4.11 will not recognise RAW images on a SDHC card but it will see JPGs why?

    Question:
I have a PowerMac G4 OS10.4.11.  I have recently bought a Lumix LX5 camera and it uses an SDHC card.  My Mac will not recognise RAW image files stored on it either by plugging the camera into a USB slot or by using a USB card reader.  Can anyone tell me how to overcome this problem?

    Thanks for that,
I downloaded RPP and it does indeed open the RAW files and lets me convert them into TIFFs or JPGs which I can then import into Photoshop to play with.  However I'm still confused about why I can't open them in Photoshop directly.  My other camera is a SLR saving to a SanDisk Extreme lll Compact Flash card and I can open RAW files off that on the same computer with no problem using a Photoshop RAW converter plug-in.
