Not all Smart Playlists work

Ok, I created a Smart Playlist named iPhone. I then set it up to "Match all of the following rules:"
Name is song name
Playlist is Smart Playlist name
Playlist is Smart Playlist name.
However, nothing will sync untill I delete the rules that start with "Playlist"
Since I have a 4 GB iPhone and I have about 8 GB of music in my music library, I need to have an easy way to sync various chunks of the library with out creating a few hundred rules or playlists. Any suggestions?
I don't have the problem with my Video iPod with its 80 GB storage.

  • Smart Playlists Working on iTunes 9, Not on iTouch

    Updated to iTunes 9
    Everything is fine
Except my smart playlists (Recently added, top 25 most played) are not working properly. They display as they should in iTunes 9 but when you sync it to the iPod Touch, it displays 25 random songs.
I've deleted the smart playlists, synced, remade them, synced, didn't work.
Deleted, remade them, different names, synced, didn't work.

To an extent thank goodness, I thought I was going mad.
I too have this issue with iPhone & Itunes 9.
All my smart playlists on my iphone are in random order, but the one which is bothering me the most is my 25 most played, which contains stuff I don't think I have ever played.
Looking at smart playlist on my itunes or on expanded tree for iphone when connected to itunes has the correct listing but random on my iphone.
Let hope they fix this soon.

  • How to turn on / off live updating for all smart playlists at once?

Hello.  Is there a way to turn live updating on or off for all my smart playlists at once?  That would be a fantastic feature since too many smart playlists with live updating turned on brings iTunes to a crawl.
Currently, I run iTunes on Windows 7.  I have over 40,000 songs, and I have hundreds of smart playlists to help organize all my songs and what's on my various iPods at any time.  The problem with having so many smart playlists is that iTunes runs very slow.  One thing that I do to make iTunes run slightly faster is to turn off live updating for as many smart playlists as I can stand (by going into each one and editing), but then it's hard to tell which have live updating turned on and which don't.  As a result, many of my smart playlists don't get updated when I would like them to because I have to go in and manually edit each one again to turn it back on.  Maybe showing which have live updating turned on or off would be useful, too?
On a related note, my iPod Classic will actually not work when I sync too many smart playlists.  This has been a long-standing problem with iPods, and I'm surprised that it hasn't been fixed yet.  I have not experimented to see if it makes any difference if the smart playlists have live updating turned on or off.
    Thanks.

this is exactly what i was hoping to see -- but i can't get it to run right on iTunes 12, yosemite
it also doesn't seem to recognize "Home Videos" or "Audiobooks" as special and tries to turn them off -- i modified the earlier script to add those two to the lists of exclusions, but still get the same error message on the first "unspecial/real" smart playlist -- hasn't somethign changed in the object model perhaps?
    thank you muchly!

  • Why don't non simplistic smart playlists work with my iTouch?

I like listening to my podcasts in the order they were released.
So I have a smart playlist that say:
    genre=podcast
    ignore these podcasts
include only podcasts played < 1
This smart playlist appears in the sync list but does not sync with my iTouch (2nd gen i think).
    Other smart playlists like
    rating >= *
    do sync.
I thought this worked with my 2nd generation classic.
    What gives?

Good questions, looks like the limiting number is just broken on iOS devices.  For the second, you'd have to try it out.  Do they update as songs are played?  And if they update do they download the new songs automatically or just put the "cloud" listing in the list?

  • All Smart Playlists Have Been Changed to the same 10 songs

I have about 30 smart playlists. Suddenly, they've all changed to have the same 10 songs. I want them back to the way they were.

i have recently had the same problem.. my smart playlists were nto on my phone but were on itunes and itunes said they were on my iphone 4 device (wih they were not). i duplicated the playlists on my computer (wich will appear as recently added 1) and r(ecently played 1) the same for any other playlist you duplicate, i deleted the original playlists, then synced my phone, the playlists the appeared in my iphone, i then renamed them so they didnt have the 1 in them, hope this helped.

  • 3.1.2 does not fix smart playlist

I have updated my phone to the 3.1.2 OS hoping that it would fix my smart playlists but they are still showing up out of order. And i am tired of having live updating turned off, after all that is the point of a smart playlist.

I am having he same problem. Saw this work around in another thread and it seems to work.
I created another smart list and set the rules to play list and selected the smart list that I want on the phone also added the rule play count set to 0. Synced the phone and the new list is in the order that I want on the phone.

  • "Folder" is not w/Smart Playlists?

You know how in a smart playlist, you could make one that says, say, "Playlist" -- "is not" -- then choose a playlist?
This is how I created a smart playlist to show me all mp3s which had not yet been categorized into playlists (unfiled mp3s).
    Can I do this w/folders?
    Thanks,
    David

  • Not all iTunes playlists are syncing on my iPhone

These are not Smart Playlists, just plain vanilla manual playlists. iPhone 5 with latest iOS installed. Windows 7 with latest iTunes installed. I've removed the Music Library entirely from the iPhone, then re-synced with the "Entire Music Library" radio button selected, but still only about half of my 12 or so playlists are showing up on the iPhone. Suggestions?

  • Can not make smart playlists anymore?

Since a few weeks I'm not able anymore to make smart playlists.  It just doesn't appear anymore in the menu 'File'.  Also I am not able to change the names of the existing smart playlists.  Why do I have this problem and how to fix it?

If you're asking if you can do it without connecting your ipod to your computer, the answer is no. If you're asking if you can create the same smartplaylists on your ipod (via itunes) but have different rules (which can make them slightly different than what the same playlist in iTunes Library shows) then the answer is yes. Make sure something (one of your playlists or even just the "Music" or name of your ipod) is highlighted first. Then go to File-->New Smart Playlist and then set the rules to how you want them. (ie, "Last Played", "Recently Added", etc).

  • IPhoto 08 not recognizing smart playlists

Been trying to make a slideshow and play from my Christmas playlist (Smart Album of Christmas Genre music) and iPhoto 08 either can't find the music or just doesn't play it. If I pick an individual song it seems to work. And hypothetically, if I did get it to work, can you shuffle the order of the songs played?
I'm also trying to figure out the advantage to Front Row over just playing a slideshow from iPhoto.

    elenting:
In a quick test slideshow I was able to select a Smart Album and use it in a slideshow. However, you can't randomize the photos that way. If you click on an album and then on the play button at the bottom of the window you can set your play and music settings and one of the settings is to randomize the slides. If you save your settings that albums will always have those slideshow settings.
    Happy Holidays
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • My daughter bought an 4th generation ipod classic without a charger.  We are using the charger from an ipod touch and it won't charge.  Someone posted online that not all chargers will work on the classic.  Anyone else have this issue and any suggestions?

My daughter bought a 4th generation ipod classic without a charger.  The ipod was working just fine, but then we tried to charge it using a brand new charger for an Ipod Touch.  It won't charge and someone online someone posted that there ipod touch charger worked on the ipad, phone and whatever else he had but it wouldn't work on the classic.  Anyone else have this same issue?  Any solutions?

The ipod did not come with a power cord as we purchased it used from ebay.  The ipod was half charged when we received it and it worked well enough to transfer songs to my computer (the previous seller didn't delete their 2000 plus songs).  My son then used the same cord on his computer to transfer the songs, but processed an update to the ipod and after that,it wouldn't work.  So, I'm not sure if we received a bum ipod, an update issue or we have a charger issue, but the cord we used to transfer the songs came from my son's brand new ipod touch.  We've also tried 2 other chargers from ipods we have in the house, 1 being a wall charger.
One individual posted online that he took his ipod classic, mac and phone overseas with one charger and it worked fine on all but the classic.  So, I'm thinking that they cords may not be universal.  Online I've read that it must be a 6 pin firewire, high power 2.0 usb cord.  Or that I need to purchase an applie charger.  We don't live close to an apple store and I'm reluctant to order one just to have it NOT work.
My daughter is learning the hard way that buying off of ebay is not always the best solution to a cash strapped 12 year old.
Any other advice is greatly appreciated.

  • ITunes not reading Smart Playlist on Touch

I have a 'Recently Played' Playlist on my iPod Touch which automatically lists anything played in the last two weeks. Live updating is selected.
When I connect to iTunes, my Touch appears. If I click on the Recently Played playlist on the Touch, however, it doesn't show the correct tracks despite the correct tracks appearing on the Touch playlist itself.
I don't want to sync as soon as the Touch is plugged in, else I lose the podcasts from the list.
    What's going on?

I've found that if I start a sync, then cancel it, I can usually update the Playlist without wiping the podcasts.
    Far from ideal, however.

  • Not all openBrWindow attributes work

I'm trying to use the JavaScript "openBrWindow" function in one of my web pages. I have it set to strip the new window of everything but scroll bars:
    "MM_openBrWindow('car_ad.html','printSample','scrollbars=yes,width=1255')"
It opens a window just fine in Firefox 3.6, but the window still has a location bar and a status bar. Even if I specifically type in "location=no", the bar is still there. (The new window looks just like it should in IE.) I also noticed that setting "resizable=no" doesn't work either in FF. What do I need to do to get these additional attributes to work in FF?
(Btw, if I'm in the wrong forum, please tell me where I should post this. Thank you.)
