Not alphabetizing

I have one song that is not alphabetizing itself in the Album column. I have
tried changing the name of the album and still no go. It act's like it doesn't have an album name. If I sort by artist I find that song listed as the 1st one by that artist. I can not figure it out.

Is there a solution to this issue anywhere?
I ran into the same problem recently. I buy some singles and iTunes annoyingly names the album something like "Song Name - Single" (when it is for an album that isn't out yet). So I try to rename it to the true album name but it stays slotted alphabetically where it would be if it were still named the original "Song Name - Single".
I ran into the same issue when I wanted to change an artist name. I couldn't understand what the issue was until I ran into this issue with buying new singles and trying to change the song name.
It is some sort of coding that is on the songs. I have tried converting the files to see if that drops it but to no avail. It is really annoying having things completely out of order....

For the missing Artists on your iPod, make sure their tracks in iTunes are not marked as "Part of a compilation" in iTunes. You can do this by highlighting the track, right->clicking on them and choosing "Get Info" from the shortcut menu. When the window pops up, head over to the Info tab and make sure there is NO tick mark next to this option in the lower right hand corner. Lastly, sync the updated changes to your iPod.

  • Files from Windows 7 are not alphabetized correctly on OS X, and can match identically named files in the same folder

I receive MS Word files from students using Macs or Windows-based computers.  This year, files prepared by students using Windows 7 are not alphabetized correctly on my Mac (under Snow Leopard or Mountain Lion).  The same four students keep having their files put at the END of the alphabetical sort by name, even though the files should appear earlier in the list.  I have to copy the file contents and paste the contents into a new document to get the new document to appear in the right order, and if I do so, then BOTH the old and new files appear in the Finder, even though the names appear to be identical!  So can have to files with the same name in the same folder, which ought to be impossible.  Does anyone have any idea what's going on?

    Bingo!
The problem is not the letters themselves, but non-letter characters in the file name; this showed up with the fixed-width fonts. The apparent duplicates and mis-sorting are caused by dashes, which differ because they're done as en-dashes in one file name and em-dashes in the other file name, or by curly or straight apostrophes.  I didn't see that in the Finder window.
I never saw this behavior before this year.  Last year, when I was using a Mac for the first time, I did not see any such problem, even though my students' files were named using the same conventions. When I was using a Windows-based laptop before that, I never saw the problem.
Windows must do something to style the non-letter characters differently than a Mac.  Is there any place in Windows Explorer or the OS X Finder that styles characters this way?  I can see this being a big problem for someone who needs to sort very important data by name, when the files are coming from different operating systems!
(I just Googled en-dash, em-dash, and curly quotes with file names, and found a good number of posts on various sites about similar problems based on ASCI character coding, html coding, Windows Explorer, and other applications.  Sometimes the files don't appear at all, because the application reading the file name can't deal with a certain ASCI code.  What a mess.)

  • Want to order subfolders in Library by date, not alphabetically: how???

    Hi there,
New to Aperature. Used to use iView Media Pro, grudgingly went to Media Expressions, which I've just given up on.
I've imported all my folders of photos... in the Library I have a folder for each years since I got my first digital camera; in each of these folders I have two or three dozen folders (or which I would call albums) that contain photos from certain weekends or events or whatever. I'd like to keep these in order by date, not alphabetically. Can I do this somehow? I realize I can probably put an 'a' in front of 'Montreal visit' and this will move it up the line, but I'd rather not have to rename all of these folders with a's or double a's, etc. (I have more than 26 folders to deal with for each year of shooting.
    Can someone kindly advise me?
    thanks, Malcolm

    Allen,
thanks for the reply. Would you be so kind as to give me a few examples? I mean, let's say I have a folder named 'Thanksgiving in Kingston' and another one named 'Christmas in Nova Scotia'. I'd like the 'Christmas' folder (December) to come AFTER the 'Thanksgiving' (October in Canada, November in US, but same concept applies) folder. I wish I could simply drag these folders into the order I'd like them to be in (by date), but I can't. What 'keywords' would you use that would keep these folders in the order I'd like them to be in. Or am I thinking too much inside the box?
    thanks, Malcolm

  • Printing contacts list - not alphabetical?

I'm trying to print out a group in my contacts list.  I want all of the info - address, phone, email.  When I choose to print the group as a "list" - it puts the contacts in what appears to be a random order for printing.  Not alphabetical.  And there appears to be no way to change that order.  Can anyone help me?  I also tried printing them as a pocket address list - but it cuts people off mid-card - putting their address in one column, their phone in another and actually even cutting off the bottom half of an individual line!
    Help! Please?  Thanks.

  • Custom PSE5 actions not alphabetical when displayed in the pallette.

I’m not getting much input (1 response) on the WINE forums for this so I thought I’d try here on the Arch forums.  The PC having issues is currently running Arch 2.6.38 x86_64 version, and the Wine version is 1.3.17.  I’d just updated the system before installing PhotoShop Elements and discovering the issues below so I don’t know if things would have “worked” before the update, though I would guess not.
    Problem:
I am trying to migrate my wife's PC to Linux and doing that requires she retain access to PSE5 (Photoshop Elements 5) so using another program, like GIMP, is unfortunately not an option. PSE5 installed and starts flawlessly and all the generic actions that came preinstalled with it seem to be fine. However I have a few folders with custom actions that are “loosing” the alphabetical sort when Photoshop builds the Artwork and actions databases when PSE5 is started. If I use the file manager to browse to the folder everything looks as it should. However when PSE5 starts and we use the Artwork pallete to navigate to the Photo Effects folder the actions are displayed in jumbled order and the thumbnail images are in an even different order so nothing is sorted and nothing matches.  I'd really like to fix the issue so I can get everything to be in the proper order with matching icons without manual intervention because I'll have to redo everything with every new custom action my wife decides she needs.
    Affected folder:
    ~/.wine/drive_c/users/Public/Application Data/Adobe/Photoshop Elements/5.0/Photo Creations/special effects/photo effects/CoffeShop Actions
    Unaffected folders:
    ~/.wine/drive_c/users/Public/Application Data/Adobe/Photoshop Elements/5.0/Photo Creations/special effects/photo effects/frames
    ~/.wine/drive_c/users/Public/Application Data/Adobe/Photoshop Elements/5.0/Photo Creations/special effects/photo effects/image effects
Equivalent Window XP path of affected folder:
    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\5.0\Photo Creations\special effects\photo effects\CoffeeShop Actions
Here are a few of the 23 total actions in the affected folder and where they fall in the displayed order. As I said above I've tried renaming them in various ways and while it will change the order it never fixes it to be correct, alphabetically. I can provide a few more, or even the full list if needed but this short list will at least highlight the problem.
CoffeeShop Baby PowderRoom.atn - should be 1st but is displayed 6th
CoffeeShop Moody Pop.atn - should be 10th but is displayed 1st
CoffeeShop Vintage Blush.atn – should be 20th but is displayed 5th
CoffeeShop Eye Bright.atn – should be 5th but is displayed 11th.
Also here are a few cropped down images of the palette window area showing the menu that's borked and ones that work. I am hopeful this will help my explanation of the problem.
This first image is just to show the menu's how's these actions are accessed. (Note it also happens to be the actions that are not sorting properly.)
This image shows default actions that were loaded with PSE5 and the proper display sorting. Note the cursor is being held over the middle action icon to show the tool tip that pops up matches the action name under the icon and the icon shows the correct image for the action.
This next image shows the unsorted data being discussed. I am holding the cursor over the top left-most icon and the tool tip matches the text at the bottom but the icon is for some Baby Powder effect thing. If you look through what's visible you will see that the icons are being loaded in correct alphabetical order but the actual action files are not.
Wine from the terminal doesn't seem to complain about anything different with the custom actions folder there or removed but I'm not sure I'd recognize something that could specifically be attributed to this issue and these aren't really “folders to be accessed” in the typical sense. These are action files that do specific things to an image, in this case effects like making the affected image look B&W, give it a golden hue or make it look like a vintage photograph. These are all based on a Media database that is built when PSE starts and used via drop-down boxes in the pallete window. These action files are placed in folders and when PSE launches it reads them looking for new media and if there rebuilds the appropriate database files. Its the database files that are then drawn from to build the pallete menu's. At least that's my understanding of what happens.
I've checked the thumbs.psd stack and the images are properly ordered alphabetically from bottom to top. I tried changing the order of 6 of the images in the stack to match the order the actions in the pallete window and that worked on those I tested to get the images to match the actions, however the order of the actions in the pallette window is still wonky. I also tried renaming the action files to get rid of spaces, exchange the spaces for an underscore “_”, remove extra words/letters and though sometimes the display order would change it still wouldn't be alphabetical as expected. I've also tried multiple copy/pastes of the folder and even just the files within as well as multiple deletes and rebuilds of the Media and Thumbs databases.
It was suggested on the WINE forums where I’ve only gotten that single response that I “cd” into the affected folder and then “ls –al” to see if the files look proper.  I did so and everything looks as expected, I also checked those folders where actions are displayed properly and the permissions are the same in all folders and the order in each case alphabetical, in the folder. Yes the action files all work each doing what it is supposed to do but as you can see from my initial post the order in which the actions are displayed are grossly out of any logical sort.
Please note this all works as expected if I boot the machine into XP so I know all the files are capable of functioning as intended. Also note there are numerous other custom actions in various other paths that are displayed in alphabetical order as expected so it's not a global problem with actions. I'm thinking the problem is in how PSE is building the MediaDatabase.db3 and ThumbDatabase.db3 files when it is launched but why these specific actions are affected is what I'm stumped on. Since I know this is occurring in a few other folders, though not all, I am hoping there is a single fix to the problem.
    Thanks.
As an aside; what really adds insult to injury in all this is that PSE5 normally takes 2-4 minutes to launch when booted into XP Home but will launch in about 30-45 seconds using WINE. This PC is running a C2D 6420 @ 3.2Ghz with 4Gb of RAM (4x1Gb of DDR2 800) so it's shouldn't be a hardware issue that's causing the slow load time in XP.

  • Portal Problem:  Workaround for NOT alphabetizing paramters in portal form?

    Hello all,
In Portal, I am defining 6i reports. Portal has forms that pass these parameters to 6i reports but they keep showing up in alphabetical order. So, the rep_end_date is appearing before the rep_start_date.
    These are the steps:
    1. Go to Navigator
    2. Click on Administer
    3. Click on Display Portlet Repository
    4. Under Seeded Providers, Click Oracle Reports Security
    5. Click on Reports Definition File Access
    6. Click Create Reports Definition File Access
    7. Go through the steps until you get to OPTIONAL PARAMETERS
    Enter REP_START_DATE
    Enter REP_END_DATE
    8. When you are finished select done
    9. Click on Customize
    10. In the form you will see that the REP_END_DATE appears before the
    REP_START_DATE
It is not logical for the users to enter the end date parameter first and then the start date second.
I tried to work around it by changing rep_start_date to arep_start_date. This
fixes the appearance on the form. Unfortunately this change causes the report
not to work. The parameters used in the report 6i must match the parameters in
    portal exactly.
I have been in contact with ORACLE with a TAR. They replied that I should ask you for any code that you might have or ideas.
I have been brainstorming some ideas:
    1. Going into the report and renaming rep_start_date to something like
raep_start_date. The advantage would be that it would fix the problem. The
disadvantage is that we would have to go into every report and check for
wherever that bind variable is named and change it. It would be tedious.
    2. Another option would be to create a form using form builder for each
report. This also would be tedious and would require the forms server to be
configured. We aren't sure whether a report being called from a form would
process faster than just a report being called from portal or not. We are not
as experienced in using form builder, however we have successfully created one.
The advantage would be that it would solve the problem. The disadvantages is
that it might be more time consuming.
    3. I suppose yet another option would be to create a html page as a portlet
and then pass the parameters to the report that way. This would be where
coding would come into play. I have been researching this option but I think
that we would have to hard code the specific paramters used for each of the
100s of reports. There might be a LOV issue with this one.
    4. Final option is to hope that one of the portal developers would have code
that would easily fix this problem on OTN.
I look forward to any information that you could provide.
    Thanks and best regards,
    Lindsay

An alternative, maybe simpler, is to join together the exported segments using Quicktime Player.  Importing into iMovie again might result in degradation of video quality.

  • I have Firefox 3.6.12. How do I alphabetize bookmarks. I go to sort, alphabetize, and then when I open bookmarks, they are not sorted, not alphabetized.

My question is the same as above. I "sort" by bookmarks in alphabetical order, then go to open all my bookmarks and they are not in alphabetical order. Some bookmarks are single; some are in folders.
I have a long list of bookmarks and it's taking forever to find a bookmark because they're not in order. You can email me at <email removed - c>

  • Apple TV video playlists are not alphabetical

First of all, I love the new video playlist addition in 2.3. Thank you Apple.
I have a problem that I can't figure out. My movies that show up on playlists on the Apple TV aren't alphabetical. I thought that if I changed my sort options on my Mac (by name), this would resolve the problem, but it doesn't.
Any ideas how to get the video playlists to be alphabetical? I can't figure this out.

Had a quick look at playlists on my own set up, while most playlists were in alphabetical order some where not. It appears that the playlists on the tv reflected exactly the order in which content was listed in itunes, so those playlists that I had selected to be listed alphabetically in itunes where also listed alphabetically on the tv, those that weren't didn't.
Haven't still fully figured this out as yet since I assumed that if I changed a playlist that was listed say by 'date added' in itunes to 'alphabetically' and synced that the way it is displayed on the tv would also change, but this hasn't happened.
I will continue to look into this.

  • List of recent items chronologically, not alphabetically

I would like the list of 'recent items' to be in time order, not by alphabet order. How do I do this? bryngary

What I did was create myself a couple of SmartFolders, which you can customize in all sorts of ways. Thus I have one that finds all Documents in my home folder that were modified in the last week (and there are 42 of them at moment--one advantage of the SmartFolders is there is no limit to the number of items), and they are listed chronologically. I also have a SmartFolder for Applications opened this week, arranged alphabetically. And so on. I save these custom SmartFolders to the default SavedSearches folder in my home Library, and keep the folder in the Dock for instant access. You can even have Recent Items that don't exist in the Finder's Recent Items--thus I have one that lists by date modified all folders that were opened this week.
