Not authorized to play on my computer

I recently had to format my PC but backed up all of my iTunes music. When reinstalling iTunes and trying to play my songs its telling me that I am not authorized to play the music. I can let up to 5 computers listen to my library but I shouldnt have to since this is the same computer, same OS and same Windows XP CD Key.
Anyone know how I can go about not having to authorize each one of my songs for the same computer Ive been using for years?

You should be able to authorize the computer in general under ... advanced, I believe. It will be literally called "Authorize Computer" as a menu item.
Sadly, it shouldn't be called "Authorize Computer" -- it should be called "Authorize this iTunes installation". I do not know of a way of retroactivly unauthorizing a computer or of making it recognize it is an already-authorized computer. However, once a year, you can deauthorize all prior authorized computers.

  • Itunes says some of music is not authorized to play on my computer

my old computer's screen was damaged, so i went out and got another one when i did geek squad at best buy took the info off my old computer and put it on my new one this included itunes with all of my music, when i went to sync my ipod to the new computer some of my music was not put on because it said it was not authorized to play on my computer, is there a way to fix this?
    thanks in advance.

    Hey there,
Is your iTunes library authorized? If not, head to store drop down menu and click "Authorize." If it is already, try deauthorizing and then reauthorizing it. See if that helps.

  • Sync causes 'some songs not authorized to play on this computer'

When syncing iPod to iTunes I keep getting the message that some songs were not copied because they are not authorized to play on the computer.
How do I determine which songs are not authorized? I have either purchased all of my songs iTunes or loaded them from my CD. Therefore, all should be "authorized"

    Diane,
I may have had another ID when I first started using iTunes - I just can't remember - I'll try to narrow it down using the smart playlist that you have suggested. As I'm thinking, I wonder if a disk that my daughter created for me a few years ago as a birthday gift (Dad's Mix) contained music that she had purchased with her account ID on iTunes, could be the culprit. Anyway, as I said, I'll try to whittle it down to isolate the songs that are generating the message. Thanks.

  • "not authorized to play on another computer or device".

In iTunes, I just rented Life of PI using Mac Pro Mt. Lion, then tried to play it in Mac Pro Windows 8 Bootcamp iTunes and message says that it is "not authorized to play on another computer or device". A complication here is that the only Windows OS that Mt. Lion sees is Windows 7. I installed Windows 8 to a "shrink" of the drive.
I'm fairly sure I've been able to do this previously but maybe only with purchased movies. But this was done from iTunes that Mt. Lion (or previous) saw in Boot Camp space.

    Thanks for that.
I had, before trying it in Windows 8, synced/dragged it to iPad 3 from iTunes in Mt. Lion.
Then after the Windows 8 attempt, (but wait - it gets better) when I went back into Mt. Lion it was no longer in iTunes. I guess copy pasting it from Mt. Lion disk to Windows 8 \MyMusic\iTunes\iTunes Media\Music raised some infringment?
Though I still have it on the iPad, I wanted to see it on my Mac Pro which has Windows 7, Windows 8 and Mt. Lion on it. I tried dragging it from iPad to Mt. Lion iTunes but that proved to be impossible.
I do not have iTunes in Windows 7, so I rented it again, this time in Windows 8.

Delete the song (move it to the Trash) and download it again under iTunes Store>Quick Links>Purchased>Music>Songs>Not in My Library.

  • Since Installing 7.0 Message that "Not authorized to play on this computer"

Since installing ITUNES 7.0 earlier this week I just tried to sync to my IPOD. I now get a message that a host of songs (and albums) weren't synced to my IPOD because "You are not authorized to play them on this computer". That's funny; they all show up in my purchased folder in ITUNES.
What's up with this and is ITUNES working on a fix. I would say beware of updating as I think their security for purchased music protection is playing games with our libraries.
I this point I want 6.0 back but of course when you update you lose the older version out of your add/remove in the control panel.
I'm contacting support too as I have over 1600 songs purchased so you think they may want to figure it out. I won't purchase another song until this is fixed. I suggest anyone else with the same problem do the same.

Called tech this morning and that's exactly what they said. I had to authorize one song and then all the songs/albums synced succesfully.
    Thanks.

  • Synching-not authorized to play on my computer

there may be a real simple solution to this but i cannot find it.
i went to sync my ipod to my library and all of the sudden 60 of my songs are not able to sync because " i am not authorized to play them on my computer"
i have no restrictions on my computer and this is the same computer i have always used for my ipod.
    any advice???

double click on one of your purchased songs in itunes as if u were going to play it. it should ask you for your password for your itunes account. once you've entered this information try to sync your ipod again

  • Songs "Not Authorized to play on this computer"

I hooked my iPod up to charge, after it went through automatic syncing I saw that only a handful of my songs were listed on the playlists on the iPod.
When I tried to re-sync my playlists in I got a pop-up that said over 100 of my songs "were not copied to the iPod because you are not authorized to play them on this computer".
This is the only computer I have ever used, I've had my iPod for a couple of months and never had any problems...I did upgrade to the new version of iTunes several days ago, after doing a system restore on my computer. How do I authorize my computer for this? Thanks for any advice!

    Yes thanks
I just bought a new IMAC. When i went to sync my iphone for the first time it gave me that message. So I found an Arcade Fire song that was one of the 100 songs that wouldn't sync, tried to play it, then got the opportunity to enter my password and was back up and running that fast. It authorized this new computer.
    thanks

  • HT1349 I have shared my itunes music between 2 computers, however some of the songs say "not authorized to play on this computer", however I have repeatedly gone through the steps to authorize, and indeed it comes back that I have authorized this computer

How do i get the few songs in my library to be "authorized to play" when all the other ones are.  I have tried doing them individually, NOT WORKING This is on my home laptop.  All of the songs play on one computer but some not on the other.

Find the songs that don't work -- one at a time.  Right-click on the song in iTunes and do a "Get Info"  On the summary tab, look at the account name field.  That's critical -- is that account authorized on your computer?
    That's the issue.

  • TS1389 I have one song in my library that will not play because it says it is not authorized to play on my computer.  I have already authorized the computer and I'm at a loss on what to do?

Why won't iTunes play one song in my library after I have already authorized my new computer to play all music?  I keep getting the same message about authorizing the song over and over.  What can I do to fix this?

You can try re-downloading the song, that's what I ended up doing and now the song I was having issues with is playing.

  • "Not authorized to play on this computer" after updating my account (new email). How to authorize?

I recently changed my account email.  Now I've just tried moving my music from an old computer to my new laptop.  iTunes tells me that my music isn't authorized on this new computer, so I need to authorize the music.  Unfortunately, that old email is no longer available to me.  How do I get my music authorized?

Ah!  I just figured out that it isn't asking me to sign in to my old account, just to the account that used to use my old email as the i.d.  I was able to authorize with my new updated account.

  • My new computer says that my ipod is not authorized to play on it

I have a new computer, and my library has been transferred to it, and it recognizes my ipod when I connect it. However, when I try to copy new songs from my library to the ipod, it says that my ipod is not authorized to play on this computer. What do I do?

Do the songs play in iTunes? It may be that after you moved it, you now need to authorize the new COMPUTER (not the iPod), then your iPod should be able to sync everything. iPods are not authorized, computers are.

  • ITunes keeps saying a song is not authorized to play??

I just bought an album on iTunes (same account I always use, the only one computer I have), and for some reason only ONE of the songs is telling me "This song is not authorized to play on your computer." I tried typing in my info to see if that would work, but it didn't, it said this computer is already authorized (which I already knew, because every other song on my iTunes plays, including all the other songs on this particular album). I followed all the tips on the support website for this particular issue and nothing worked. I also went into my account, deauthorized all the computers (my old computers that I don't have anymore were still on there), then reauthorized this one, and still no luck. How do I get this song to play?! So frustrating!

Nevermind, I decided to delete the file and went to re-buy it. The store prompted me to download it for free since I had already purchased it, so I re-downloaded, and the new file is playing. Whew!

  • During DVD creation, get this message "Music not authorized to play"

I cannot get the music to record on my DVD. This just started two days ago right after I upgraded to v 7.3.1 of iTunes. I have successfully burned dozens of DVDs prior to this. I wonder if the iTunes upgrade is not compatible with iDVD now.
My problem is that I continuously get a message that the 3 songs I am using are "not authorized to play on this computer". This is BS because I downloaded them on this machine and they will play in iTunes. 7 days ago, these 3 songs downloaded onto the first DVD that I burnt, so they are authorized.
Also I get a message in iDVD that the program cannot access iTunes and that I must upgrade to version 4.0 or later.

    Hi Tom
Don't know the real problem BUT accordingly
    music/audio from iTunes there
often is problems about - silece parts when making
    the DVD.
The work around this is - and might most probably
    help You too.
    - In iTunes select audio needed
    - Export out as an audio-DV .aiff
    - Use the audio on this in Your movie project
∆ Now it should work OK
Tedious - Yes I know but this is a working solution.
    Yours Bengt W
thanks for your suggestion. I can try that, but it is tedious and I have not had to do that before. I want to be able to do this as quickly as I did before when the music played all the way through and I did not get those messages that said "this computer is not authorized to play this song"
I want to go back to iTunes, v 7.3 that I used before the recent upgrade to 7.3.1 since that older version worked.
Are you listening Apple techs???? You have a problem with v 7.3.1 upgrade. I am going to try to do this project on my lap mac which has not bee upgraded.

  • Not authorized to play these

HELP! I plugged my itouch (8gb) into the computer last night to sync. I have done this a number of times and it worked beautifully. This morning when I retrieved it from my computer, itunes told me it couldn't sync all of the songs and applications that I had already purchased "because i was not authorized to play these on this computer." I restarted my computer, plugged it in again, and it happened again! Then I restored my itouch to factory settings, and tried to resync my "administrator's" itouch, and again it wouldn't let me. I tried to do this a number of times unsuccessfully.
I don't know what to do.

ok, glad i'm not the only one having this problem.
plugged in my iPod touch this morning (running 2.0.1) and it automatically deleted all of my applications. I tried to resync and it said they're not authorized to play on my computer (my primary computer, I am in fact authorized, I bought them here, or on my iPod). Also, an album i bought directly from the wifi store, has disappeared.
I have used up 4 authorizations, including my main computer. some of the computers I no longer use (in computer labs at a school I've since graduated from, etc.) and I'd like to reset all of my authorizations, but this is another issue, maybe.
I tried what was suggested above, trying to deauthorize my machine from within itunes, but i got an error. it reads: "there was an error storing your authorization information on this computer. the requested directory was not found, or has a permissions error." where is it stored and how do i fix it?
