Not Authorized to play (song).  Windows Vista question.

I had to deauthorize all my machines as when I upgraded to Vista Itunes counted it as a new machine even though I didn't have to reinstall the prgram. Now I reauthorized the machine and keep reauthorizing the machine but I can not get my songs to play. What am I missing or is this an Apple issue?

Stupid workaround but here it is. You authorize songs then have to close Itunes and go back in.

  • I get "computer is not authorized to play songs" after I have authorized it

I get "computer is not authorized to play songs" after I have authorized it many times and every time I try to play one I get the same authorization window. All of the songs were bought a while ago under my old aol email which I have now updated to a new yahoo one. I have repaired disk permissions, authorized over and over as well as reinstalled itunes 7. The songs remain locked and I am not able to even burn a cd. I cant seem to find out a way to unlock those songs to play...Help

My hunch is that you accidentally have two accounts and they both must be authorized on your computer. Fire up iTunes. Go to the Store menu and "Sign Out." Try to play one of the problem songs. A popup window with the account name will appear, asking you to authorize that account.

  • This computer is not authorized to play Song name

    Hi
A couple of weeks ago I tried bying a ringtone from my iPhone and it worked fine. But after syncing with my Mac Mini iTunes i get the error message
This computer is not authorized to play <Song name>. Would you like to authorize it?
I've tried de-authorizing and authorizing, also restarting the computer. But nothing helps. The same error just pops up every time I try to play it. I'm using the same apple-id on both my iPhone and my Mac Mini.
    Please help me out

  • "Computer Not Authorized To Play Song" Box

Just updated to v9.0.2. Only have a small issue.
Since 2004 I have managed to establish three iTunes accounts. This was out of ignorance of what an account really is. I am presently only using my latest account. The other two are just "dormant", but have songs/albums that were purchased using them and back then the songs/albums fell into the "Digital Rights Management" (DRM) category.
But, like now, after an update I will get the "Computer Is Not Authorized To Play Song" box when I am playing one of my playlists.
The Box tells me the account name and ask for password to authorize the song.... I type in the password for the account and get another box stating that "This Computer Is Already Authorized To Play This Song".....???
Is there any method to "blanket authorize" all the song in my library? Or do I have to check every song in all my playlists to be sure that they will play??
Is there any method to consolidate all songs/albums in my library to just my "presently used" account?? iTunes Store has been nice a has tried to help, but keep saying that I have to keep all three accounts for the rest of my life or loose all the songs I've purchased on each account.... puke. The "Store" was very nice and responsive, I have to say...
    Any suggestions???

I had several symptoms on this "keeps asking to authorize computer" issue including showing a grey screen when ask to play music videos or TV shows. This seemed to have happen some 5 weeks after I changed my itunes account ID, even if it was working perfectly fine after such change. Worst, it keeps prompting the old account ID every once in a while. It also happen randomly with no specific pattern on either newly added or previously existing songs AND on both initial account ID or the more recent account ID.
It looks like the iStore account ID and/or the iStore authorization registry mechanism or database is out of control. The only way I was able to resolve this was to de-authorize my computer several times (up to 3) even if the message kept coming back with the message that your computer is not authorize, some how it appears that doing it several times seems to clear an outstanding registry inside the istore database. That I can say, so far it seems to work . . . enjoy. One comments is that I am really not impressed with Apple support or their inability to correct the situation since all of you may have notice that this is a problem that seems to be there for several weeks. I have spent way too many hours fugging the dog on this problem

  • Computer "not authorized" to play song, but when I authorize it, it still won't play

The last song I bought won't play.  When I attempt to play it I get a pop up that says "this computer is not authorized to play "name of song" would you like to authorize it?  I put in my apple id and password and try again and I get the same pop up.  I only have 2 computers authorized, all my other songs are working, including this week's free song which I downloaded a few days after purchasing the song in question.  Any help would be appreciated

If you are in a country where re-downloading is possible (check this with iTunes in the Cloud and iTunes Match Availability by Country - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5085), delete the track (and the original file) and download again (Downloading [using iOS or computer] past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store - http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2519).  See tips on downloading in https://discussions.apple.com/message/19097773, especially unchecking the "Allow Simultaneous Downloads" box in the downloads tab of iTunes.
Select the store on the left side of iTunes.
Click on Purchased on the right side under Quick Links.
You can re-download your available previous purchases.
If you cannot download a second time, contact iTunes Store support staff through the report a problem links in your account history or,

  • Itunes says my computer is not authorized to play songs on the nano.

I connected my Nano( 2nd gen) synched it with my itunes and transferred some songs a few days ago.
Today, I wanted to add some songs I missed but now Itunes is saying my computer isn't authorized to play songs on it. When I try to authorize it (the window pops up for my itunes store password) I get an error from the itunes store. Specifically it says unknown error (-42408).
What does it mean and how do I make it stop?

    Hello Sesquipedelianne,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
Have you upgraded to the latest version of iTunes? This error message was common for people who were just upgrading to version 9, but it was resolved as of 9.1.

Otherwise, if that is not the case, you might find a few more possible solutions in this older thread.

  • Not authorized to play songs bought on iPad on computer

After downloading itunes 10.5 and ios5 on my iPad I tried buying a song on my ipad2 to see if it would automatically download on my laptop.  It did...but when I go to play it a box flys up and says Im not authorized to play it on this computer. When I enter my info it tells me this computer is already authorized...but still wont play it.  I also tried things the other way, bought a song on my laptop and it did download it on my ipad and was able to play it.  So somehow the computer is jacked up. I read another post and tried the suggestion to log out of itunes and deauthorize my computer and to no avail.  Any help would be appreciated.
FYI - Im running Windows 7 - 64bit, iTunes 10.5...and only use one itunes account and apple id...have only ever had one.

First, have you added them to the itunes library? Second have you authorized the computer through itunes? To do this open itunes, click on store and click on authorize computer.

  • Not Authorized to Play Songs on This Computer

I lost all my music with a hard drive crash and had to rebuy a lot of songs due to no back up discs. Now 95% of the songs I bought including new songs will not download to my Ipod. I get the following error message "Some of the items in the Itunes library, including .... were not copied to the Ipod .... because you are not authorized to play them on this computer." I am not sure why it says I am not authorized to play them. I can not find how to fix this. Can anybody give advice on how to fix this? Thanks for the help.

Play one of the songs in iTunes and resync. If that doesn't work, start iTunes, go to the Store menu at the top, Deauthorize your computer, play one of the purchased songs and when prompted enter your Apple ID and password. Then Resync.

  • Not authorized to play songs on iTunes

It started just this morning -- yesterday I could listen to ANY song I have in my iTunes library. Note: I have NOT changed anything since the last time it worked properly and this morning.
Today I can only listen to songs that I loaded on my HD via CD or another method of downloading. EVERY song I try to play that I've purchased via the iTunes store gives an error message saying that my computer is "Not Authorized to Play this Song", and then prompts me to authorize it. If I enter my password, it'll say the computer is authorized... but if I try to play the song again, I get the "Not Authorized" message once again. ARGH!!
Everything worked fine yesterday, so I know it's authorized, but for some reason it won't work today. I did NOT change anything between listening yesterday and attempting to listen today (just in case that wasn't clear in my first sentence). I don't know what's up and it's really annoying.

    Ok,
so I think I made some progress / headway here.
Is it possible that the songs you cannot authorize (i.e. it says it did, but then keeps asking) were purchased with a DIFFERENT account email address?
I.e. have you changed you email info on your iTunes account? It appears that these songs need to be authorized with whatever they were purchased, not just the current iTunes email associated.
    Does that make sense?!

I have one (and only one) designated email account that I've set up that's used for all my purchases. So that info hasn't changed since I first created the account. The only thing that did change was my CC expiration date, but that's been the same for over a year.

  • Not Authorized to Play Songs?

I normally use my laptop to download from iTunes, but while it was in the shop, I used my desktop to download some songs and manually transferred them to my iPod. No problems. When I connected my iPod to my laptop, again, no problems. All the songs transferred any played. Now, for some reason, when I connected my iPod to my laptop, not only did I get the message Some of the items in the iTunes were not copied to the iPod "Brooke's iPod" because you are not authorized to play them on this computer." The weird thing is that a) the computer is authorized to play songs on my account and b) I downloaded several of the items ON this computer. It looks as though I'm going to have to go through and manually reauthorize 357 items by entering my password and user ID. Does anyone have any idea what happened or why it happened?

I have a very similar problem!!! just recovered my hard drive after a wicked virus. I bought an external usb hard drive, backed up all of my data, spoke to Dell employees in 3 different countries and got my drive cleaned up and everything reinstalled. I went to iTunes and downloaded the program... transfered my library back into it... when I go to play songs it says "computer not authorized to play this song".... so I go through the steps, authorize, and it still gives me the same message over and over. A lot of this music came from other sources and used to work on iTunes just fine. I uninstalled iTunes and started all over, but I have the same problem going on.... I'm so frustrated and i miss my music! Hope someone out there can help

  • Not authorized to play songs on new computor

I have just moved my iTunes library to a new computor, and at first the songs all played fine, with a few exceptions, which were marked with small exclaimation marks. Now, nearly all my songs are like this, and this message shows: *'Some of the items in the iTunes library, including "......", were not copied to the iPod "......", because you are unautorized to play them on this computer.'*

Did you actually authorize the new computer?

My macbook pro is already authorized, but a purchased song from iTunes keeps stating that my computer is not authorized to play it. I enter my apple ID and password, upon which a window confirms that my computer is already authorized. Yet the song still won't play and continues to state that my computer is not authorized.

If you live in a country in which you are allowed to re-download purchased music delete the track from the library and the HDD and re-download it.

  • Error message when syncing says I'm not authorized to play the songs

I connected my nano to my laptop via USB port to recharge the nano. The songs normally automatically sync at the same time, no problem, but this time I got an error message saying it couldn't sync some songs because I'm "not authorized to play them on this computer." What should I do (or have done) differently?

Play one of the songs on your computer or use the Authorize Computer command from the Store menu in iTunes; this will authorize your computer to play the music and transfer it to your iPod.
