Not authorized to play these

HELP! I plugged my itouch (8gb) into the computer last night to sync. I have done this a number of times and it worked beautifully. This morning when I retrieved it from my computer, itunes told me it couldn't sync all of the songs and applications that I had already purchased "because i was not authorized to play these on this computer." I restarted my computer, plugged it in again, and it happened again! Then I restored my itouch to factory settings, and tried to resync my "administrator's" itouch, and again it wouldn't let me. I tried to do this a number of times unsuccessfully.
I don't know what to do.

ok, glad i'm not the only one having this problem.
plugged in my iPod touch this morning (running 2.0.1) and it automatically deleted all of my applications. I tried to resync and it said they're not authorized to play on my computer (my primary computer, I am in fact authorized, I bought them here, or on my iPod). Also, an album i bought directly from the wifi store, has disappeared.
I have used up 4 authorizations, including my main computer. some of the computers I no longer use (in computer labs at a school I've since graduated from, etc.) and I'd like to reset all of my authorizations, but this is another issue, maybe.
I tried what was suggested above, trying to deauthorize my machine from within itunes, but i got an error. it reads: "there was an error storing your authorization information on this computer. the requested directory was not found, or has a permissions error." where is it stored and how do i fix it?

  • Why "not authorized to play it on this computer" + other problems

I just bought my first song for my first iPod (a 16GB iPod touch). I am very impressed with the hardware, but I am already extremely disappointed with Apple and iTunes.
iTunes is one of the least intuitive applications I have ever used. One among the many reasons I say this is that music is managed differently than video, and both are managed differently than photos! I or any other competent software engineer could develop a superior user interface that manages all three consistently. Pathetic!
iTunes will not sync any video from my digital camera or from youtube. Apparently I have to convert these files to quicktime! Outrageous!
I am traveling today and learned that none of the 317 songs that were on my iPod last night are on my iPod today. Useless!
None of these problems is the question I am concerned about at this moment. My immediate problem is that I just bought my first song, it is in my library, I can copy it to playlists, and I can copy it all over my hard drive - but I cannot get it onto my iPod because I am "not authorized to play it on this computer". Infuriating!
As bad as this seems, it may actually be working correctly. Apparently Apple employs some kind of scam where we buy music, but we cannot freely copy and play it. Can anyone explain how this works, and why I would EVER want to buy a song from the iTunes Store?
    Thank you.

Choose Authorize Computer from the Store menu in iTunes, or play the song on your computer while connected to the Internet. Provide your iTunes Store account details when prompted.

Most songs available on the iTunes Store are protected by DRM at the request of the people who allow it to appear on the iTunes Store. iTunes Plus songs are not protected.

  • TS1389 when i changed my browser to IE 8, I am no longer able to play the songs I purchased. I keep getting a dialog box saying "this computer is not authorized to play this song. Would you like to authorize it? The box has an old apple ID . How do I get

I try to play the Itunes song I purchased. I have a new computer, another internet provider since I purchased the songs, and have switched to a new internet browser Internet Explorer 8. I keep getting a dialog box saying "this computer is not authorized to play the song. would you like to authorize it?
An old Apple ID popps up and I am asked for the old passwork which I no longer remember. I successfully changed to a new Apple ID and password.
when I enter that, a new dialog box appears, saying "this computer is already authorized." When I try to play the song the first box appears again,
I I go round over and over, with no success playing my songs. Can anybody out their resolve this? Thanks for any help

Were these songs purchased using another account?
" I opened a new iTunes account and copied the files to the new account.  "
Do you mean to a new library?
Account is a user neame and password with which you purchase content.
A library is your collection of media.

  • Computer Not Authorized to play purchased music

After upgrading from 10.4 to 10.5 I tried to sync my iPod touch with my computer to transfer a new album I bought from iTunes. I got the followingn message: "This computer is no longer authorized to play purchased items that are on the iPod...(nome of iPod).. Would you like to authorize this computer for items purchased from the iTunes Store?" I checked authorize, and got a message that the computer is already authorized. I tried to sync again, got the same message. I next deauthorized the computer and reauthorized it. I still get the message that the computer is not authorized to play purchased items....
Any ideas on what I need to do to be able to sync my music?

Try the quick solution first. Use the iTunes "Store" menu and select deauthorize computer. Then select authorize computer. Try to sync again.
If you still have problems, try these solutions: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1389

  • "This computer is not authorized to play" any DRM items from iTunes Store

My iTunes 9.0.3 Library has DRM songs (purchased years ago up thru the end of iTunes DRM) plus TV shows (purchased from 2006 thru two days ago).
I just discovered none of these restricted songs or TV shows can be played because ...
*This computer is not authorized to play "name of item". Would you like to authorize it?*
Before I use another authorization for my Mac Pro (on which everything from 2007 on was purchased), I'd like to understand what has gone wrong.

I searched the iTunes forum for help before opening this thread. Thanks, Jolly, for the pointer to the article -- it looked promising, but none of the points apply to my situation.
I did fresh search of all articles, which found the one Jolly recommended. It found a lot of other articles, most/all of which did not include "This computer is not authorized" even though I put that phrase in quotation marks. Article Advanced Search appears to be broken.

  • During DVD creation, get this message "Music not authorized to play"

I cannot get the music to record on my DVD. This just started two days ago right after I upgraded to v 7.3.1 of iTunes. I have successfully burned dozens of DVDs prior to this. I wonder if the iTunes upgrade is not compatible with iDVD now.
My problem is that I continuously get a message that the 3 songs I am using are "not authorized to play on this computer". This is BS because I downloaded them on this machine and they will play in iTunes. 7 days ago, these 3 songs downloaded onto the first DVD that I burnt, so they are authorized.
Also I get a message in iDVD that the program cannot access iTunes and that I must upgrade to version 4.0 or later.

    Hi Tom
Don't know the real problem BUT accordingly
    music/audio from iTunes there
often is problems about - silece parts when making
    the DVD.
The work around this is - and might most probably
    help You too.
    - In iTunes select audio needed
    - Export out as an audio-DV .aiff
    - Use the audio on this in Your movie project
∆ Now it should work OK
Tedious - Yes I know but this is a working solution.
    Yours Bengt W
thanks for your suggestion. I can try that, but it is tedious and I have not had to do that before. I want to be able to do this as quickly as I did before when the music played all the way through and I did not get those messages that said "this computer is not authorized to play this song"
I want to go back to iTunes, v 7.3 that I used before the recent upgrade to 7.3.1 since that older version worked.
Are you listening Apple techs???? You have a problem with v 7.3.1 upgrade. I am going to try to do this project on my lap mac which has not bee upgraded.

  • Not Authorized to play purchased video

I purchase and watch videos all the time on iTunes... but this one is new to me. I just downloaded the new LOST episode, and now no matter what purchased video I try to watch (new or old) i get a message saying my computer is not authorized to play the video.
I can play any purchased music and podcasts just fine, but not any videos. I deauthroized and then authorized my computer again, but no luck, same thing happens. Need help... thanks!

Actually, this does not solve the problem. The old accounts I had when I purchased over 1,000 songs no longer exist in Apple's records, so I can't authorize the "old" music under these old account names.
Only 208 of my 1,100 purchased songs were available on iTunes Plus for $44.00 to acquire all DRM for $0.30 each. The rest of the music will no longer sync with my 5th G 60 GB iPod. And I can't use all these songs in iMovie or iDVD anymore. I could until iTunes 8 came out. Kind of a slimy move on Apple's part, making me pay more money to be able to continue to do something I've been doing for years. They should have paid for the DRM in order to allow me to continue this practice.
I'm all for artists getting their share and protecting their owner ship rights, but Apple is making enough money to keep their loyal customers (25 years) happy.

  • Error Mssg: not authorized to plat these items on this computer??

    Hello -
I just transferred some songs from my iMac to my PC which I have done successfully in the past. This time, some songs transferred no problem - but with some I received the following message:
Some of the items in the iTunes library were not copied to the iPod because you are not authorized to play them on this computer.
I went to the menu bar and did the "Authorize computer" steps but still nothing.
Some music was purchased through iTunes and some was from CD's. There's also a game I recently downloaded from iTunes.
Any thoughts would really be appreciated!
    Thanks

I have Windows Vista Home Premium. Since upgrading to iTunes 7.6.0.29, I also cannot sync purchased songs to my iPod.
I have 577 songs I purchased on iTunes and when I sync I get the error message "Some of the items in your iTunes library were not copied to your iPod because you are not authorized to play them on this computer."
With iTunes 7.5, when I got this message, I could double-click on one of the songs in iTunes and be told I needed to "authorize this computer" even though it is the computer I have used for years. But once I re-authorized the computer, the purchased songs would sync.
But that all changed with iTunes 7.6.0.29.
I have tried de-authorizing my computer and re-authorizing my computer and the songs do play in iTunes but still won't sync to my iPod.
I don't like having paid Apple almost $600 for music and now being UNABLE TO LISTEN to these songs on my iPod.

  • Error: "...songs not copied...not authorized to play them on this comp..."

When I try to transfer my songs to my new iPod I get this message:
"Some of the items in the iTunes library, including xxx, were not copied to the iPod "Bradley's iPod" because you are not authorized to play them on this computer."
Why can't I transfer the songs? I paid for these songs. What's wrong? How do I fix this?
    Thanks,
    Brad

I am having the same problem. How do you re-authorize the songs, if you don't mind sharing?

  • Not authorized to play this content

OK, I see this has been posted before, but am unable to post a reply because the post was archived. So I am posting again.
I keep receiving this message when trying to view any of my movies that have been purchased from iTunes, even though when I go to iTunes, the movie(s) have already been authorized.
Not sure why this is happening but the only thing I can figure out is I recently had to have my HD replaced and luckily thanks to target disk mode, and being able to re-sync all of my information from my old HD, I didn't have to change anything. But it appears that with my Front Row, nothing is authorized.
Any advice on what to do or how to correct this? I really like watching it in Front Row other than iTunes because of the easy access remote.
    Thanks!

I have a similar problem. I downloaded 3 RENTED episodes of a TV show, and when I try to play them using Front Row, I get the cryptic message, "! You are not authorized to play this content." I can play previously PURCHASED episodes just fine, and I can play these rented episodes in iTunes, but Front Row refuses to play them. I've de-authorized and re-authorized the computer (a MacMini) to no avail. All my software is up-to-date (OS X, iTunes 10, etc.). Frankly, I think that Apple has screwed this up, and rented TV shows (as opposed to purchased shows) don't play properly in Front Row. Any ideas?

  • Not authorized to play songs on iTunes

It started just this morning -- yesterday I could listen to ANY song I have in my iTunes library. Note: I have NOT changed anything since the last time it worked properly and this morning.
Today I can only listen to songs that I loaded on my HD via CD or another method of downloading. EVERY song I try to play that I've purchased via the iTunes store gives an error message saying that my computer is "Not Authorized to Play this Song", and then prompts me to authorize it. If I enter my password, it'll say the computer is authorized... but if I try to play the song again, I get the "Not Authorized" message once again. ARGH!!
Everything worked fine yesterday, so I know it's authorized, but for some reason it won't work today. I did NOT change anything between listening yesterday and attempting to listen today (just in case that wasn't clear in my first sentence). I don't know what's up and it's really annoying.

    Ok,
so I think I made some progress / headway here.
Is it possible that the songs you cannot authorize (i.e. it says it did, but then keeps asking) were purchased with a DIFFERENT account email address?
I.e. have you changed you email info on your iTunes account? It appears that these songs need to be authorized with whatever they were purchased, not just the current iTunes email associated.
    Does that make sense?!
    Dan
I have one (and only one) designated email account that I've set up that's used for all my purchases. So that info hasn't changed since I first created the account. The only thing that did change was my CC expiration date, but that's been the same for over a year.

Good news EVERYONE! I have had a large number of problems with my 160GB iPod Classic. I even formatted it to NTFS to try and get it to work (highly not recommended). I have now got an iPod with software version 1.1.2.
    @ Uninstall iTunes completely.
@ Download older version of iTunes here OldVersion.com
@ Install it and download an older firmware. Google here
@ But the downloaded IPSW and Signature files into
    *"Documents and Settings\[Your Username]\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPod Software Updates"*
@ Click on your iPod under devices within iTunes
@ Hold Ctrl and then click on 'Restore'. When prompted choose 'Don't Check' and then choose to install older version.
@ Now UPDATE your iPod! I had immediate success which suggests the problem is to do with upgrading from 1.1.1 to 1.1.2
    Please check this out Apple

Hi I am having the same problem. Did anyone answer you? I am vry interested in a solution. My laptop display cracked and I had to have my drive transferred to another machine. Now whenever I try to play a song it asks me to authorize. I do the step and it still won't play.
