Not booting/no signal (CPU Phase LED's)

I was at a LAN recently, were my computer worked as normal. I tidied some of the cable management, and when I turned it on, there was no signal to the monitor. I noticed only 1 of the 4 CPU Phase LED's were lit. (MSI Z77A-G45) I've tried without GPU, different memory configs, another PSU, without drives. Still no signal.
Any help would be appreciated!

MSI Z77A GD65 - CPU Phase LED Solid State when OC / Hard to boot up

Problems:
1. All settings are at stock and I having the difficulties to boot up. When I press the power button, all my fans light and CPU phase LED lights on and off.No more booting. Need to press several times on the power switch then it only will boot up.
2. Whenever I tried to OC by changing the Vcore from auto to manual, all the CPU phase led will in solid mode. No more blinking. When I set the Vcore back to auto, it starts to blink.
Approach taken:
1. Have tried to disable EUP setting on bios. Results still the same.
2. Have tried to disable all the power saving settings ,results still the same. CPU phase LED keep in solid mode.
3. have tried to clear CMOS several times but still facing boot up difficulties.
In addition, previously when I am using the same hardware with another brand,it boots up normally. No issue.
To add, I am using Vantec Ion 750W plus modular PSU.

If it wasn't such a mission to remove that monster cooler of yours, I would recommend you remove the CPU for a proper socket pin inspection. You may just have to do that as a bent pin or two can cause such anomalies.
I would also test with another known working PSU.

P45-C51 - Noise from CPU Phase LEDs

Hi,
I've just finished setting up a new PC based on the MSI P45-C51 (MS7519) mainboard (see full specs for the system in my signature).
Everything works fine, but.. The CPU Phase LEDs LED1, LED2, LED3 (the three blue LEDs in the upper right corner of the mainboard) emit some kind of very annoying high frequency noise as they flash (in sync with the hard drive activity LED on the front of the cabinet/tower).
It's very important for me that I have a silent PC, so I've gone into great detail choosing the most low-noise components for this specific machine. Everything on this machine is very silent - except for the motherboard, which I would have expected would be the least of my problems when creating a low-noise PC!
So my thoughts and questions are:
- Is there any way I could turn off the flashing of CPU Phase LEDs (in BIOS, jumpers, software)?
- Could it be a PSU issue (is 400W not enough for this setup)?
- Or is it just a faulty mainboard (has other users experienced a similar noise from these LEDS)?
I don't even see the reason for why the LEDs are there. The mainboard manual only has a very short and practically useless explanation of the LEDs. It only says what power modes they show (1 and 3 phase power mode) - not when and what to use them for..
Hoping that someone can shed some light on this issue, and hopefully help me solve the problem..

Now that I found out that the problem wasn't related to the LEDs on the MSI mainboard, I shifted my focus towards the CPU - The Intel Core 2 Duo E8400.
From searching/reading about this specific processor on various pages found via a Google search, it sounds to me like a lot of other users have this issue to - it's called CPU whining - some kind of piezo vibrations caused by the extra power (that would normally be used by the CPU) which is being thrown back into capacitance when SpeedStep throttles down the CPU (no load). So it's not the CPU per-say, but the capacitors and voltage regulators that generates the noise (at least from what I am able to read). I guess it's not directly related to the MSI mainboard, and so maybe this post isn't even relevant in this forum any longer..
When I write it's not directly related to the MSI mainboard, I mean that perhaps if I mounted this CPU in another mainboard, maybe the problem would go away - so I think it might be the combination of this specific motherboard and this CPU that creates this noise. A lot of other Intel Core 2 Users doesn't seem to have this problem, while others again complain about it. I guess it's also a very subjective question about how sensitive your ears are to high-frequency noises (probably in the 15.000-18.000 KHz range). Some write that they hear the sound, but don't care, while others hear it (and like me, are annoyed by it) from across the room through music, conversation and/or other background noises.
Long story short, the users of the MSI HQ Forum (especially Jack t.N. - a lot og appreciation and thanks goes out to you, my friend ) should not use more time and effort on this issue..
Except if there's something that I might still have missed in the BIOS settings, that you think I need to try out first, or if this "newfound knowledge" raises any other questions or inspires a possible solution!
I will leave the post open for a few days just in case.

P67A-GD65 (B3) CPU phase LED always on

After BIOS update to the latest 1.C0 (I think), on-board CPU phase LED operates wrong. All 6 lights are always on, regardless of actual CPU phase state. MSI control center reports variable (depending on load) LED state meanwhile.

Big Bang XPower CPU phase Led is constantly moving

Hi, I just put my box together today and I noticed the CPU phase led array is constantly moving. Is this normal behavior? The pc is essentially just idling. Thank you in advance for your help!

Under light/medium loads a few of them will cycle on and off as power requirements vary depending on the CPU load, under a heavy CPU load I'm sure you will see that all of them will light up.

P55-GD85 CMOS Pin #s and CPU Phase LEDs

Howdy, folks.
Looking for some information that isn't in the manual.
I have a brand new P55-GD85 that won't POST. Could be a lot of reasons, but I wanted to check that the CMOS jumper on JBAT1 was properly across pins 1/2. The problem: The manual doesn't orient the jumper on the board, and the board doesn't label the pins. Does anyone know whether pin 1 is closest to the battery or furthest from it?
The jumper came from the factory sitting on the pin closest to the battery (plus the middle pin). I assumed that the jumper was properly set at the factory, so I powered down the board and moved the jumper to the other pair for 30 seconds or so, and then re-seated the jumper where it started. Before I did this, powering up the board turned on all of the blue LEDs on the CPU Phase panel, plus LED #1 on the CPU_VTT Phase panel. Now, none of the LEDs lights at all (except CPU_VTT #2 blinks once if I use the reset button on the board). The problem: the manual does explain which LEDs are supposed to light up on boot, normally. Does anyone know? Was all of the LEDs lit a good thing or a bad thing? Now that none light up, is that good or bad? Is there any documentation for this?
The board came with a plastic cover across one of the two, 12 volt 4-pin ATX JPWR2 CPU power plugs (the one closest to the center of the board). Nothing in the manual explains why or whether to use one, two or none of the JPWR2 plugs. Anyone know why one had a plastic cover? I plugged in both halves of the plug, anyway.
Here are the specs on the machine. No overclocking, no tinkering, nothing changed on the board, and no peripherals. I haven't even hooked up the USB headers. Just the front panel power, which I unhooked once I had these problems.
* P55-GF85 w/ i570-LGA1156 (on the supported CPU list)
* 2x2GB G-Skill F3-12800CL9D-8GBRL (correctly seated in DIMMs #1 and #3 -- testing with 1 stick at a time = no change. This memory suggested by NewEgg and reported to work with this board)
* Rocketfish 500W RF-500WPS2, which is not a great PSU long term, but at the moment the board isn't running a single HD or peripheral except some fans. The PSU has 2 12v * 18A rails, and 18A on each of the +5 and +3.3. The manual says "at least 18W" so this may be a problem.
* An old GeForce 6500 card, which may not work, although it gets power.

Google for pictures of the board (large/high-resolutioin images) to compare jumper positions.
The "keep data" position is usually just a parking position that does not much else electrically. So, taking the jumper off the pin header altogether would also make sure that it is not wrongly placed.
Remove the board from the case and test it on an non-conducting surface in barebone configuration (just CPU, one stick of RAM, video card & power connectors [24-pin ATX, 12V CPU power, PCI-Express power connector]). Reseat CPU and heatsink as well and check for broken or bent CPU socket pins while you do that.

Test a video card that works for sure and also test a different PSU if nothing changes,

Satellite M40x will not boot up after CPU upgrade test

I have an M40x Laptop. I took the CPU out of it to replace it with another to test the computer booted up fine so I shut down and took it out and put it's original CPU back in, and it would not boot. Now it will not boot up at all with either of the CPU's all. When I turn on the power all I get is a white screen for a few seconds and the laptop shuts itself back down. Both the CPU's are good because I have since tested them in other computers to make sure that was not the problem.
Anyone have any ideas on what is causing this??

As far as I know Toshiba does not support any CPU upgrades and it's not advisable to do something like that.
Its a fact that the CPU replacement on the notebooks is not easy and mostly not recommended.
The processors used in portables are connected to the system board using a process called TCP (Tape Carrier Package). This is a permanent connection method and is used in the interests of miniaturization and heat dissipation.
Did you assign the new heat paste? Its necessary and important if you want to connect the CPU again.
So possibly this is a reason for the no booting.
I think more details you will get from the service guys in your country

LED status indicators on P45T-C51 (CPU Phase LEDs)

I've just bought P45T-C51 motherboard.
What meens LED2 & LED3 blue light for CPU power phase mode? it is not described in user guide.
I've no video with asus graphic card and ati chipset EN8600GT.
Is this motherboard compatible with PENTIUM4 and CELERON?

In case your problem boils down to a CPU that is not supported, there is no point in returning it to the reseller. He will test the board and probably find out that it works just fine once a proper processor is installed.

My hp Pavilion p6230y died. It will not boot. The power button LED does not lite.

The power supply LED is lit, and all the voltages are correct (metered). The fans turn on when the power button is pressed, and I can feel the HDD turning and it gets warm. I stripped the system down to bare essential, nothing but wireless keyboard & mouse, HDMI connector to monitor. I cleaned out all the dust from inside the computer.I reseated the CPU chip. No beeps at all coming from motherboard. The CPU heatsink is stone cold. I suspect either CPU chip &/or motherboard. Anybody have any ideas?

Usually when the fans twitch it means that the CPU is OK. That is not a theory, it is practical experience. My next step is what I suggested to you. Clear the CMOS settings. That is usually a last ditch effort. I always have a spare PSU around to verify that it is not the culprit.
Follow the troubleshooting on this HP web document to check your PSU. Just testing it with a meter does not help much because it can fail under load. The multimeter does not put a load on the power supply unit. Even those cheapie PSU testers are pretty worthless, except for a cursory test.

Help with motherboard cpu phase leds.

i had to turn off c1e and c states to stop a high pitch whine that my pc was making but i noticed that ever since i turned then off only the first light stays sold and the other dont flash anymore.i also checked bios and the option for motherboard leds is on.so i was wondering does turning those two off also turn off the lights?

yes those are the light i meant.i just didnt kno if it was turning off because of the settings i turned off or a defect.

Brand-new Z77A G45 not booting

Hello all. Just started putting a new build together the other day, using the Z77A G45. When I went to boot it up for the first time, it gave me the "Military Class III" splash screen, with the prompts to switch to POST, start BIOS setup, etc. However, pressing any of the keys doesn't do anything, and it shuts down after about twenty seconds or so. The CPU phase leds all turn on for a few seconds after it's powered on, but after that only the first one remains lit.
I thought it might be because it wasn't recognizing my USB keyboard, but I had the same problem even when I used the PS/2 converter that came with the keyboard. I tried clearing the CMOS, and it gave me a screen showing that it recognized everything plugged into the board, and prompted me to hit F1 to continue setup, which worked, but from there all I got was a black screen with an "underscore" in the upper left hand corner. Rebooting with only one stick of RAM didn't change the problem, and I've tried all the USB ports, with similar results.
I'm thinking that the problem lies in the CPU being damaged during installation, but there don't seem to be any bent pins.

This is not true depending on the board and bios version. Not all boards/ bios versions beep at all.

Latitude E6420 will not boot

I have a latitude E6420 which will not boot and the diagnostic codes leds and beeps are not listed in the handbook
hdd led flashing, power light off, wireless led solid on , what does this combination mean? (not listed)
it then beeps, 1 beep, 3 beeps, 1 beep, and repeats, what does this mean? (not listed)
the system will give the correct led code if the memory modules are removed
is it a system board issue?

The tests were done without the battery installed. I just tried it with the battery, the same LED codes appear, but no beeps and still no booting and no display activity. I have also tried removing and reinstalling the cpu but made no difference

X58 Pro Phase LED Question

Hey all,
I had a question about the CPU Phase LED's that I was hoping someone would be able to answer. As the subject line states, I have the MSI X58 Pro motherboard. The i7 920 is OC'd to 3.96ghz with the usual throttling features disabled in the BIOS. My question relates to the CPU Phase LED's. They were previously all on, no automatic phase switching but I just recently noticed that the left-most (2) LED's are flashing?!?! According to the manual, those are for "Phase 2 Power Mode". The other 3 LED's are lit continuously. What gives? What is that telling me? I thought that I had disabled throttling so they should be on all the time, right? Anybody know why? Cuvc 5100 not booting

hi,
i have just received from cisco demo depot cuvc 5100 which is not booting at all. the reset LED is red.
it hangs after 1% saying can't file a file (don't remember the exact name).
however keeping pressed RESET button for about 15 seconds moves me to some emergency mode and asks for LOGIN.
none admin,cisco or administrator username works.
does anyone have an idea what can be the username and password in that mode?
is there any chance to fix the cuvc without tac help?

i have found out that the username is 'root', but have no idea about a password.

Tecra A11-11N does not boot after CPU upgrade

Hi,
I would like to do a processor upgrade for my Tecra A11 11N from the i5-430M to a probably much faster i5.I thought the i5-580M would do, but the laptop did not boot when i installed this processor.
I reverted back to the 430M, did some research on the internet and found out that the 580M has a very high FSB speed and that is what probably made it not to work/incompatible with my machine.

Now i went back to the computer shop,returned the 580M and got an i5-560M as i compared it's specs and saw it would be compatible as it has the same FSB speed with the 430M.
I then later on in the day tried to install this cpu as an upgrade BUT alas!
It STILL WON'T BOOT ALSO.
I was left dumfounded.Processors in the same familly line are supposed to be compatible with one another provided:Lithography, FSB and socket type are similar.
Or what am i missing here?
I have done processor upgrades in many instances for both desktops and laptops and this is the first one that has left me with no words to say!
please offer some help/advice.

I solved this processor upgrade problem on my own.
I did some little research on what limits processor upgradability on computers and i
found out that BIOS was one of the factors that play a key part.
So,i went on a mission
to see if i could upgrade my BIOS and whether it would solve my problem.
I found this link to be very informative:

I then downloaded the latest BIOS version for my laptop from this link:

The following link gave me proof that the BIOS update would not bring any problems to my
machine and that there is already someone who had done it and not encountered any problems.

Just to make sure that you are on the safe side,before carrying out the procedure to update
your BIOS,make sure you have a fully charged battery in addition to the AC plugged in.A power
outtage during this procedure would instantly kill your machine.
The BIOS installation took less than 3 mins.I copied the executable on the desktop and run it
from there.
On rebooting,the new BIOS was installed.The new BIOS version was 3.40 dated on 05/18/2012 while
the older one was version 2.0 dated on 04/03/2010.
From Intel's website,the i5-430M was released on Q1 2010 while the i5-560M and i5-580M were
released on Q3 2010.
It is pretty obvious that by the time BIOS version 2.0 was release,these two newer processors
had not been released and that explains why they were not being recognized when i installed them.
I finally swapped the 430M with the 560M,assembled back the machine and powered it.
Voil!,the machine booted to it's new life.Everything is as was before!
So far i have not seen any problems even to do with overheating or the cooling fan spinning any
faster that before.It is all the same as before.There is considerable performance gain with the
uprade.I am a software developer and my various development enviroments including compilers,
debuggers,database and deployment servers have all been running way way faster than they were!
I believe the 580M can also work but unfortunately i had returned it back to the shop.
There is no reason for buying new machines when we can upgrade the ones we have.What will
happen to the older ones?This means more electronic waste and so does new machines.Let us try
to make better use of the ones we have a in turn,SAVE OUR ONLY PLANET EARTH FROM GLOBAL WARMING!
