Not burning DL DVDs

Whether on internal drive or external drive with Toast 8
nor with burner on internal drive.
Message: error on internal data transfer between computer and drive.

Hi JayCampbelll38;
Generally when used with DVD, DL stands for Dual Layer.
Since this is happening with both an internal and external drives and the error message says data transfer problems it sounds like a problem with the hardware in your Mac. Have you ever run AHT?

  • DVD is Not Burning in DVD Studio Pro

DVD is Not Burning in DVD Studio Pro 4.2.0

I used build and format approach. Both discs play fine on computer platforms, but not on a consumer DVD connected to the TV. Normally I have no problem. I checked and rechecked several times all the preferences for Studio Pro. The only thing I noticed was instead of generating a Video and Audio TS file, it generated one HVDVD_TS file. Is this the issue? If so,where do I correct this (in the settings)?
    Thanks

  • Since 10.4.4 (10.4.5) - i can not burn Data-DVDs anymore...

    System: iMac G4, 1GHz, 1GB RAM, Mac OS X 10.4.5, 4x SuperDrive (SONY DVD RW DW-U10A)
    Dear Apple Support,
since Mac OS X 10.4.4 (same with 10.4.5) i can not burn a Data DVD-RW anymore. It is so annoying. I want to burn my backup on a DVD-RW with the Burn Folders in Mac OS X. it is not possible.
The Finder burn dialog hangs at the "ending burning process". It is so annoying.
It's not possible to erase this "half burned" DVD-RW too! So I have here a lot of destroyed DVD-RWs around me...
The burning of DVD-RWs is a problem since 10.4.0 here on my machine. With 10.4.3 it was half o.k. ... But since 10.4.4 (10.4.5) nothing works anymore.
Your product "Mac OS X Tiger" is nearly one year in the market. And burning a Data-DVD is not a exotical thing. It is a essential feature of a Operating System today. So what are you doing in your Test-Labs?
I am sitting here since 1 year with an Operating System from Apple an it doesn't works in the essential features.
Whats about your slogan "It just works"?
What happens with the quality of Apple?
Under 10.3.9 Panther i can burn everything. It absolutly no problem there.
So i don't understand what are you doing with Tiger?
    It's so annoying!

  • Can not Burn CD/DVD after update to 10.6.7

Since I have updated to 10.6.7 from 10.6.6, I can't burn a DVD or CD in the Super drive. I switched back to 10.6.6 and everything worked, switching back to 10.6.7, no burning can happen. The burn file locks and would not allow the lock to be removed from the "Get Info" in the file sec. Any solution? please help

Downloaded the Combo Update (other than the one intended for 'early 2011 MBP', and it will not run on this computer. Says something like it is not authorized, or not intended for this computer. Did re-run the update for 'early 2011 MBPs' same result. Was able to solve the font display issue, but not the incorrect icon issue, and FaceTime will not run at all. Says it is not designed for the OS I have on this computer, and will not even start. I have tried to go to the AppStore, just to see if I can download the latest version - no dice. Won't let me download it. Says FT already installed on this computer. Tried deleting FT, and then downloading - same message. ?????

  • Idvd 08  shuts down after building, idvd will not burn a dvd

Dvd studio pro burns fine, Burning a DVD data disk works fine. Burning a project in Idvd 08 will not burn anything. It simply quits before finishing and spits out an empty dvd disk. I have a imac g5 power pc 2.1 ghz, 500gb hd, 2.5 gb ram and I am running idvd 08 version 7.0. I have tried reinstalling idvd and have even repaired permissions. What do I do? What could it be?

    Hi
*Not knowing the origin to Your problem - General approach when in trouble is as follows.*
    • *Free space on internal (start-up) hard disk if it is less than 10Gb should rather have 25Gb*
    • Hard disk is untidy. Repair Permissions, Repair Hard disk (Apple Disc Util tool)
    • Delete iDVD pref file - *or rather start a new user/account* - log into this and re-try
iDVD pref file resides. Mac Hard Disk (start-up HD)/Users/"Your account"/Library/Preferences and is named.
    com.apple.iDVD.plist
While iDVD is NOT RUNNING - move this file out to desk-top.
    Now restart iDVD.
    • Program miss-match. iDVD 5.0.2, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.5.5 - is OK - DON’T work under Leopard
    • Program miss-match. iDVD 6.0.4, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.5.5 - is OK (might work under Leopard)
    • Program miss-match. iDVD’08 v. 7.0.1, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.5.5 - is OK (might work under Leopard)
    • iDVD (08) v7 Locate theme folder. Move out iDVD1, iDVD 2 and eventually iDVD4 folders to desktop - re-try
    • Try a Cleaning CD/DVD that cleans the laser lens on the DVD burner/player
iDVD 6.0.4 and iDVD 7.0.1 are compatible with Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard
Last resort. from Craig. Solved the problem!! Finally!!
I deleted every iDVD application and folder from my boot drive,
emptied the trash and then installed iDVD 08 using the customize option
and I am up and running.
If You do a re-install be sure to get rid of all iDVD old parts AND then EMPTY the Trash-basket !
    iDVD updated ?
    Apple Codec updated ?
Start a New Clean project - or delete project assets

  • Why does brasero not burn a DVD?

I have a DVD to burn, but every time I run Brasero I get a message to insert an empty disk or otherwise it will attempt to make an image. With the empty disk inserted seems like brasero does not see the device and disk.
With my external DVD writer connected I can't burn anything to it. The user is added to optical group and the device is found. Growisofs however works with the provided path. Why does brasero not see the writer and how do I make it burn the dvd?

A likely cause of this error is that some program did not report memory usage correctly to the OS.
This ARTICLE will give tips on finding "clues" as to what was happening at that moment. Chances are good that that program, or Process is identified somewhere in the Event Viewer. Now, be prepared to do a bit of reading, but follow EVERY link in any of the error, or warning messages.

  • IDVD will not burn a DVD - just disk image - why not?

I did a short iMovie project (just about 6 or 7 minutes of video); used a theme, added background music from my iTunes collection-- OK all fine; exported via "Share" to iDVD (all this is iLife'09 and Leopard 10.5.6 on a MacBook May 2006).
I did a DISK IMAGE but then also wanted to test to burn a real DVD. That got to to final step then hung- said one minute to go, then ejected the DVD - but nothing was on the DVD.
Later I used DISK UTILITY to burn the disk image to a DVD- and that DVD played fine on my Mac and even on my 7 year old DVD player.
OK so my MB DVD burner is working; the iDVD makes a valid Disk Image-- but why can't I go directly from iDVD to a DVD?
Thanks for any comments here -- I believe there has been a bit of discussion on this, but not sure if others are able to make a DISK IMAGE and then (if then) burn a DVD as I have. But I'm still not able to do this directly from iDVD.

Hi Beverly, I am using the imovie 09 version with iDVD 09. I didn't do any more editing after sharing the project to iDVD from within imovie. I get no error messages at all, that's the strange thing. It acts like it is encoding fine. But, when you watch the finished product, either a disc image or a burned dvd, it is garbled up from about halfway thru to the end. I even tried to have idvd save the project as a disc image and then used Toast 9 to burn it, and it is the same way, messed up. Just to be sure it wasn't the imovie 09 doing it, I took the same imovie 09 project, put it in Toast 9, and let Toast save it as a disc image, and it was fine. And I burned it with toast and the dvd played fine. I then tried to share the same project again, from imovie 09, to idvd 09, and save to disc image, and or burn it to dvd and again, it messes it up badly. This is a brand new imac bought from the apple store locally. I really can't understand why idvd 09 is this bad? It doesn't make any sense. I've eliminated imovie 09 as the problem. Like I said before, I have a lot of experience using the previous versions of imovie 6, and idvd 6 on a powerbook G4, without any problems? Oh, and I did get the menu sound to work, but not the method listed here. I tried all of those listed, without success. I found that if you keep dragging out the menu sound, and replace it with a new mp3, and drag it out, it finally works. I did this about 6 times. Then, all of a sudden it worked. Makes no sense at all. I never did see the little wave sound thing he talked about. It works now, but the wave isn't there? If there is a way to just remove idvd 09, and replace it with idvd 6.04, I'll do that. Is this possible?

  • Optiarc Drive does not burn DL DVDs

Hi, after looking up the post regards the Optiarc drive which came with MacPro computers I found the post about getting the error #6 here: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1294824&tstart=0
I don't have this problem but my drive spits out DL discs when I try and burn on them. I checked Sys Profiler and drive info is:
    OPTIARC DVD RW AD-7170A:
    Firmware Revision: 1.N8
    Interconnect: ATAPI
Burn Support: Yes (Apple Shipping Drive)
    Cache: 0 KB
    Reads DVD: Yes
    CD-Write: -R, -RW
    DVD-Write: -R, -RAM, -RW
    Write Strategies: CD-TAO, CD-SAO, CD-Raw, DVD-DAO
Media: Insert media and refresh to show available burn speeds
I noticed that the cache is 0kb and DL disks aren't listed as supported, nor is an +media. Does anyone know if this is the reason my drive spits out DL discs? If so, does anyone have a fix for this? Do I need to reinstall or update the firmware? I'd rather not mess about with unsupported firmware if possible. Anyway, this seems a bit NQR. Can anyone help?

I have been having problems with my Optiarc drives for the last three months. After getting the error 6 and then having the drives not burn anything to fixing the burn issue and now having the problem you're having.
However, I can burn on TDK DVD+R DL 8x. When I insert Verbatim DVD-R DL 4x they just get spat out. I have two of exactly the same drive on the one Mac and they seem to perform independently.. ie. one may read a disk yet the other one wont.
So, to get a temporary fix for the Error#6 so I could use the drive I had to clear permissions. Here's a step by step of what I did:
    1. Go to Users/user/Library/Preferences/ and trash "com.apple.finder.plist"
    2. Restart using the install disk. (Can take a while)
    3. Choose your language
    4. Open "Disk Utility" from the "Utilities" menu
    5. Select main drive and "Repair permissions"
    6. Quit "Disk Utility"
    7. Open "Reset Password" for the "Utilities" menu
    8. Select the target hard drive and select the user account
    9. Click "Reset Button" under "Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs"
    10. When button says "Done" in grey, quit and restart.
After doing this I was able to burn. I am about to try the same thing to see if it fixes the disc "spit-out" issue and will post results.

  • Idvd will not burn a dvd

I have tried to burn a dvd with no luck, I have a macbook for over two years and never has the idvd been able to burn a dvd. The dvd is ejected just before it is done "less than a minute remaining" the disk is always blank. I have put several projects together in idvd and can only view it on my macbook. Everything is updated, I have spent alot of time tring to get the idvd to burn but no luck. Is there anything else that I can use to burn a dvd?

Compose the DVD, recording it to the desktop. Will have img after the name. After you've composed the DVD ready for burn, instead of using iDVD, choose from the top left, drop down menu, for burn to disc image. (That's the same menu drop down you use for choosing your film in the first place.) When that's done, click on the disc icon which has appeared on the desktop, that one with img after the name, and that will make a box appear showing video and audio records. Click on the red + to get rid of it. That action will have made the disc to be seen and ready for burn in Utilities. Chose Go from the screen top and then Utilities - Disc Utility App. On the left side of the box is that name followed by img. Click on it. Go the top and in Images menu go down to burn and click on it. Your drawer ready for the burn should open. Pace your disk in the tray and choose Close. When Burn comes up, small box to the right, click on that and await results. Good luck.

  • Premiere Elements 10 will not burn a DVD. It stays at 99 percent and will not complete the burn.

New HP 1107c. Cannot burn a DVD with Premire Elements 10 64 bit. Works OK on a 64 bit Dell. Could this be a DVD hardware problem ? Turned off all Microsoft services via msconfig, disabled virus and spyware software, but still hangs at 99 percent burn

  • Not burning, ejecting DVD

I'm trying to burn a DVD that I've burned numerous times, this is the first time after upgrading to Leopard. What happens is that iDVD goes through the whole assembling process but then just ejects the blank DVD (hasn't burned anything) and stalls in the "Burning ..." process. This happened with two brands of DVDs, so I don't think its a problem of the disks.

    Hi Christoph
    a. How much free space is there on Your internal (start-up) hard disk ? >25Gb OK
    b. Deleting iDVD pref files and running Apple Disk Util tool (Repair permissions and hard disks)
might help. At least it's where to start when in trouble.
    c. QuickTime up to version 7.3 ?

  • DVD drive does not burn the DVD but prompts the mysterious 0x8002006D error

I read the earlier threads about the mysterious 0x8002006D error.
Then went to look at the console and the DiskRecording log reads:
Finder: Burn sense: 3/73/03 Medium Error, Power calibration area error
Finder: Burn error: 0x8002006D The device failed to calibrate the laser power level for this media.
Can anyone tell what this could mean? Is the drive old and tired? I have the latest possible update for this Powerbook G4 1,25 GHz that I can use. What is meant by the latest firmware - where can I check which is the latest firmware for this particular DVD/CD superdrive ...
I am not trying to use the impossible, the G4 only supports DVD-R and with the speed up to 2x, so it is getting difficult to find suitable DVDs for this. The better MacBook is being serviced, as it has a screen problem, only after 1 year of use!
Please, can anyone help me, my works do not make any progres and I am in trouble!
    I would be grateful for

Actually, I found out that for this particular PowerBook model there is no further firmware upgrade for the SuperDrive, only for the models starting from 1.5 GHz. Obviously all I can do is downgrade my OS to the version, which I suspect was the one that still supported my SuperDrive to see, whether it is the Drive that has died or whether it is the conflict with the upgrades and the hardware.

  • IPhoto Slideshow images will not burn to DVD -- Green Screen

I'm trying to burn a slideshow I created in iPhoto '09 to a DVD using iDVD '09. The first few time I've done this, everything burns properly, including the DVD menu. When I select the "play" button to play the slideshow, the music that I originally entered plays correctly; however, the screen is completely green and none of the images appear.
Slideshow has 136 pictures and three songs from my iTunes library. The menu in iDVD has no music and only one pictures, using a previously loaded theme from the default options. I am burning the slideshow to 16:9 ratio, NTSC, best performance.
I have tried creating using the autoplay upon dvd insert option, which still did not work. Same green screen with slideshow music playing. I am currently trying to export the slideshow as quicktime movie then adding that to the project.
    PLEASE help. Any ideas appreciated.

I did search apple's KB again but that's the only article I could find on Green Screen so I posted it to the forum for reference purposes only....
Sorry it failed to help. I'll ask around for other suggestions and if anything comes up I'll post back.
DRM is certainly a possibility as suggested above even though I've not seen it attached/related to an issue of this nature (lines yes, but rarely the entire screen).

  • I can not burn a DVD-R in my Imac!

Error: The burn to the OPTIARC DVD RW AD-5690H drive failed. The disc drive did not respond enquiry.c and can not recover or retry.

Ffirst and foremost you have to use the very best in blank media, like Maxell,  Sony, or one of the many others. Next is the disc burning software you use. Last what is the content, movies, data, or anything it may be.  (EXAMPLE) Some users have had issues burning from Microsoft Office Software. More info would surely help.
