Not connecting to the same network after sleep

I'm working on a MacBook that is running Mac OS X (10.5.8) for a friend. It has all the specs that should be running circles around my MacBook running Mac OS X (10.6.2) which is five years old. However the hard drive had to be replaced on my computer and I updated the OS.
The MacBook (10.5.8) has an issue with connecting to the network here in the house. Last night we ran all the updates so that it would be current. Yet there was still a problem with the network connection. When the computer is awake and we log into the network it's fine, but when it goes to sleep and is woke up again it joins the network next door. Where my computer stays on the house network and doesn't jump networks. The pc computers in the house stay on the network here in the house as well and don't jump networks.
Does anyone know how to fix this problem? I was reading on the different discussion boards and none of them really match what is going on with this computer. There is also an airport client update, but I don't know how to find out if the Macbook is a late 2007, early 2008, late 2008 model and I fear that if I download this update client not knowing the model I will mess something up.
Does anyone have any advice?

    Hey Dr kris,
Thanks for the question, and welcome to Apple Support Communities.
I understand that you are having issues connecting to Wi-Fi networks with your iPad mini. The following troubleshooting assistant may lead to a resolution:

  • After updating my iPhone 5 to iOS 8.1 it will not connect to the wifi network at work even though it recognizes it. It however still automatically connects to the network at home. I have restared the phone and toggled the router, still no connection

After updating my iPhone 5 to iOS 8.1 it will not connect to the wifi network at work even though it recognizes it. It however still automatically connects to the network at home (this is the network I used to update the phone). My iPad however does not seem to have any problem connecting. I have restared the phone, toggled the router, re-entered the network password but there's still no connection.

When your device is trying to connect to the work Wi-Fi network, go to Settings > Wi-Fi > then tap on the name of the Netowrk that she is having trouble with. Then tap on forget this network. Let the device attempt to connect again and make absolutely sure she is trying to connect to the work network and not a nearby network, then make absolutely sure the password is entered correctly.

  • My laptop compaq presario will not connect to the Internet anymore after buying airport extreme. Why? It detects the network, accepts my password, but will not connect to Internet.

My laptop compaq presario will not connect to the Internet anymore after buying airport extreme. Why? It detects the network, accepts my password, but will not connect to Internet. I tried to repair connection, tried to reboot modem several times, I even updated my computer. Nothing. All it says is that it does not detect modem. Why?

Welcome to the support community group.
First, are you sure that your AirPort Extreme has been configured correctly and is properly connected to your modem?
Begin by telling us how you have things connected and if the Airport Extreme is replacing a previously owned router or is this an entirely new installation?
First be sure that your modem is working and properly connects you to the internet using an ethernet cable directly connected to your laptop.  Once you're sure that's working, reset the AirPort to factory defaults by disconnecting it from power and pressing and holding in the small reset button on the back  for 15 - 20 seconds while you reconnect it to power.  Then turn everything off for 5 minutes. Connect the Airport to your modem with and ethernet cable to the Airport WAN port on the back (check the user guide to make sure you connect the cable to the correct port) then connect a second ethernet cable between the laptop and one of the LAN ports on the AirPort Extreme.
Then power up the modem first, wait 5 minutes and then power up the Airport, wait 5 minutes and finally power up your laptop.
Then run the airport configuration utility from your laptop.  Since you're not using an Apple computer, be sure that all of your firewall, and virus blocking and checking software is disabled before you run the airport configuration utility.  Once you run the utility, it should detect your AirPort and allow you to use the configuration wizard to set things up.
Check back if you're still having problems.

  • Successfully set up TC (the latest one) for MBP. I can access to TC wirelessly.  Tried to access from my PC too but PC does not even detect TC (as storage), while PC is connected in the same network and can access to the internet.  Anything missed?

Load the airport utility for windows.. it has several parts.. the key one is bonjour for windows which helps windows find apple network devices.
The TC should also be setup with names that windows can use.. ie short, no spaces and pure alphanumeric.
So Fred Blog's Airport Time Capsule
Is not a valid windows name.
    TCgen5 is.

  • Solaris 8: Multiple primary interfaces connected to the same network

I have a machine with Solaris 8, and it has multiple interfaces that are connected to the same network which means they all have metric 0 (1 hop) to the default gateway.
    assume:
    e1000g0: 192.168.30.70
    e1000g2: 192.168.30.72
    e1000g4: 192.168.30.74
    e1000g5: 192.168.30.76
    gateway: 192.168.30.65 (Cisco Router)
However, it seems like despite the fact that they have a direct connection, they seem to be using e1000g0 to access the 192.168.30.0 network to get to the default gateway and then to anywhere else.
When I send a ping to say, 192.168.30.74 (IP of e1000g4) and capture packets on e1000g0, I see the "echo reply" messages going out of it as opposed to e1000g4 even though e1000g4 is the one receiving the "echo request". This should not happen and these should be completely independent as they should all be advertising a 1 hop to that network
The outputs from netstat -rn and ifconfig -a are shown in the picture on the link below
    [http://img836.imageshack.us/img836/7308/ifconfignetstathiddenip.jpg]
This gets even more confusing when I go into the Cisco router and run the command: "show mac address-table" where only the MAC address of e1000g0 is shown for the switch port it's connected to, but not for the other interfaces which are connected to the switch. Yes, all ports are active (no shut) and are pingable.
Also, the odd thing is that ALL of these individual MACs show up in the router ARP table when the machine comes up, however after sending a ping to one of them, after a certain expiry or whatever period, the MACs disappear from the router ARP table and only the MAC for e1000g0 shows up. The arp table of the solaris machine however shows all the relevant MACs of each port of the router that it's physically connected to (This is actually a Cisco Switch with the advanced IP services imagine and L3 routing turned on)
Before anyone asks: The setting local-mac-address? setting does NOT exist in my machine and it never has, but it used to work fine. Also, from the ifconfig command, once can tell that all the MAC addresses are fine.
I need to somehow assign all these interfaces equal priority and make them understand that they're physically connected to the 192.168.30.0 network and there's no need to go through e1000g0 to get to it.
This is causing a lot of problems as eventually all traffic will end up going through the e1000g0 interface and that will become a bottle neck.
    Please help Thanks in advance

Ok thanks. That was a useful response.
I did think about the trunking software that is claimed to be available for Solaris 8, but it's only available if you've got paid support contract. Oracle came and ruined everything re: Sun support which is so expensive now.
The other confusion is, we never had that OR needed to configure trunking/link aggregation on this machine, so why now?
Lastly, by your explanation, this should be expected and is "normal" behaviour, which would mean that this machine was always doing this and I only just noticed it this time? I thought if you turn off ipv4 forwarding and router function in the machine, it's every interface for itself. But it's not doing that :(
So then the question is, Can I force it? I've tried a bunch of things by manipulating the tables and it seems to mess things up where nothing is getting through or it now shifts all the traffic to some other port make the problem no different
Is there a way to give equal weight to all interfaces for the traffic to go directly through them that is originating at those ports?

  • I can't print wirelessly from my iMac although it is connected to the same network as the printer and I can print fine from my iPad to the same network

I have downloaded and installed the driver from the HP website for the HP Envy 5530. While I can send documents from my iMac to the printer using a USB cable, it will not print wirelessly. When I tried to install the wireless connection, I got the dialogue box saying "Devise not reachable" and it suggested I check whether the iMac is connected to the wireless network (it is and the signal strength is excellent, Safari runs well) and that I check the printer is connected to the same network (it is). I am able to print items from my iPad wirelessly using the network so I don't understand why the iMac won't recognise the printer wirelessly when everything else works fine.

From the Safari menu bar, select
              Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Advanced
    and check the box marked
Include Bonjour in the Bookmarks menu
if it's not already checked. Then select
Bookmarks ▹ Bonjour ▹ Name of printer
A web page served by the printer should open. Does it?

  • HT5706 I just purchased an AppleTV and am trying to connect AirPlay with my mac (2012 model) In 'system preferences displays' an airplay menu is listed but it says 'no device detected'. My AppleTV and macbook are connected to the same network. Any help?

I just purchased an AppleTV and am trying to connect AirPlay with my mac (2012 model) In 'system preferences > displays' an airplay menu is listed but it says 'no device detected'. My AppleTV and macbook are connected to the same network. Any suggestions why it is not working?

Troubleshoot the network as that is likely what is causing the issue.
Also, temporarily disable the firewall on the Mac and disable IPV6 on the computer.

  • When I connect my ipad to a wifi network, the iphone connects to the same network

When I connect my iOS 8 iPad 4 to the guest network at work, my iOS 8 iPhone 5s automatically connects to the same network. When I disconnect the iPhone so I can send an email from my iCloud account (which is blocked on the work network) and tell it to forget the network, it disconnects my iPad too. Each time I tell the iPhone to forget the network, when I reconnect my iPad, the iPhone connects again.
How do I tell my iPhone to never connect to the work guest network while allowing my iPad to connect?
I do not like this feature in iOS 8.

Unfortunately, this does not help me, there are no issues with the operation of the WiFi, it is operating normally on both devices.
The issue is that in iOS 8, the WiFi network information is shared across linked devices. Therefore, if I add a network to one device, it is added to the other device and if I forget a network on one device, it is forgotten on the other.
I want to use a network on one device (the iPad) and to not use the network on the other (iPhone). How do I tell the iPhone to not connect to the WiFi without disabling WiFi while allowing the iPad to connect to the network? It is annoying to have to disable the iPhone WiFi manually each day when I get to work and it is prone to forgetting to turn it back on when I leave.

  • Trying to set up my brand new MacBook Pro and it does not connect with the wifi network I have selected for this purpose. Nothing wrong with the wifi as both my iPad and iPhone are happily connected. Suggestions for connecting to the wifi network accepted

Setting up my brand new MacBook Pro and it will not connect to the wifi network. Nothing wrong with the network which is happily working for my iPhone and iPad! Suggestions accepted for making this connection.

Fixing this is a two step process:
    1) System preferences > WiFi/Airport ...
... check [√] Ask to join new networks
"Known networks will be joined automatically.
If no known networks are available, you will
be asked before joining a new network."
    2) Remove unwanted networks from the list of "known" networks under
    System preferences > WiFi/Airport > (Advanced) > | Airport/WiFi pane ...
Close the window and save changes. If no joy, do a restart to ensure you are playing under the new rules.

  • Deskjet Ink Adv. 6525 Invisible to all devices even if connected to the same network

Okey, So a few days ago I got a  new router (new Wifi network). When I connected my printer to it, none of my Apple or Android devices couldn't find my printer, even if they could before I got my new router. I called my new network the same way as my previouse one, and used the same password, but my devices still can't find it.They're all connected to the same network, and no errors are shown on the printer, or on the Wireless network test results. I tryed everything I could find from the FAQs on this site, but I still can't solve the problem. The printer prints and scans normally when it's connected to my computer. Please answer if you have any ideas how to solve my problem!
    Best regards, Marko

    Hi Marko,
Welcome to the HP Support forums.  I understand that since changing your router your mobile devices can’t find your printer and you can only print from your computer with the cable connected.
Please run the Wireless Setup Wizard from the front panel of the printer.  Even though you have used the same network name and password, the new router broadcasts different information that the old router.  So please run the wireless setup wizard from the front panel of the printer.  The instructions on how to do this can be found in your User Guide on page 31 in the section titled “To connect the product with the Wireless Setup Wizard”.
For your computer it sounds like the step to switch the connection from a USB connection to a wireless connection was accidentally missed during the setup.  The instructions on how to make that switch can also be found in your User Guide on page 33in the section titled “Change from a USB connection to a wireless network”. Windows and Mac each have their own sub-section.
For your mobile devices please turn the wi-fi setting off on it.  Please wait approximately 15 seconds to allow the device to truly disconnect from the network.  Please turn the wi-fi setting back on and then choose your network.  It’s possible that the devices still “thought” they were connected to your old network as the name didn’t change.

  • My Bionic is not connecting to the mobile network

I have had my Biaonic for almost 2 years and the last 2 days it will not connect to the mobile network.  Any ideas?

Could be a network outage in your area.  You also could try resetting your SIM card, i.e., turn off the phone, remove the SIM card (be careful not to touch the gold contacts), wait a few minutes, then reinsert the SIM card, turn the phone back on, and allow the phone a few minutes to re-establish a network connection.
