Not enough disk space to restore from time capsule

I have a macbook pro, and I think time capsule backed up any eternal drive attached to it.
The macbook would not boot/? mark, so I repaired/verified disk, got to time capsule and retore, but there is not enough disk space on the macbook to repair (again as I think time capsule backed up external drive which I don't need backed up).
Is there a way to enter time capsule from the macbook, and "check" something to not restore back onto the macbook, the external drive.
Thank you
jonathan golab

You will have to open the Time Machine HDD and find the file where the external HDD information resides and delete it.  Note for which date you delete the file and use that date for the restore.  Review this extract from the Pondini website;
http://pondini.org/TM/12.html
When you enter the Time Machine HDD, you can open the folder like this example.  Probably the best date to choose is the latest one.
Ciao.

  • New mac pro has not enough disk space to install from old mac pro

So, I bought the new shiny black cylinder Mac pro, but it comes with just 250gb flash memory, not enough to install the 600gb+ I have on my older MacPro hard drive.  I backed up with time machine to my G-RAID, but during install it could not find the backup.  (At least I think it couldn't. It said it found one on the G-Raid but that it was last backed up in 2010!)  So I attached my older MacPro in terminal mode and tried to install from there.  Not enough space to install my User folder.  So now I am installing Applications only.  This is going to be a major pain in the neck, I fear.  Why did Apple do this to us?  Don't they realize there have been folks like me who have bought just about every machine since the Apple II+ and have accumulated a ton of data?  Sure, a 250gb flash memory drive is going to be faster and easier for Apple to manage, but why not give us a way to downsize without having to manually figure out what to do with our iphoto and macmail libraries?  Has anyone else gone through this and come up with a good solution?

  • Not enough disk space to upgrade from Aperture Library

My Aperture library is about 140 GBs (I've also got an iPhoto library, which is about 40 GBs, and I don't know for sure if all the stuff in there is in my Aperture library.) I've got about 23 GBs free, and when I try to upgrade, Photos tells me it needs an additional estimated 29 GBs. What options do I have at this point? I'm wondering if this would work:
    - Copy Aperture Library to an external drive.
    - Delete the library from the internal drive (scary. Yes I have backups, but still scary).
    - Open Photos, and point it to the library on the external drive.
Would that create a Photos library on my internal drive with all the contents of the external library? I'm worried that it would reference all the files on the external, and then I would always have to have the external drive connected to use Photos.

Okay, that's not an option. Does it need this 29 GBs just temporarily for the upgrade process? I was under the impression that the new Photos library simply references everything in the Aperture/iPhoto library, so shouldn't take up more space than what you had before. So I'm wondering if I delete some things to free up the 29 GBs, if I can run the upgrade, and then put the things back that I deleted. But if it really wants 29 GBs permanently, I'm in trouble.

For what the Apple Store's charge you can buy almost buy a new computer.
Just for giggles I brought my old laptop in for a drive upgrade and asked, they wanted $600 for a drive that only cost $120 at the time and it was a slow 5,400 RPM drive. The new Mac's of a similar make were going for $1000.
I did the drive replacement myself, got a faster drive of better quality for $300 instead.
Then another time I asked for a RAM upgrade from 4GB to 8GB, they wanted to charge $400 + $35 for the labor.
The same RAM is on Crucial.com for $90 and all I need is a 00 micro phillips screwdriver.
So you see what's going on here.
I think what you should do, if your out of warranty/AppleCare, is to call up the local PC tech guy who also does Mac's and have them fix you right up.
They can offer more personalized care which you need. Clone your old drive to the new and everything.
With Apple they are overworked at the Genius Bar and just place roadblocks so you buy a new machine instead.
For instance, all new iMac's now have proprietary drive software installed on the hard drives for heat monitoring. So now the only choice a user has is to bring their iMac into a Apple Store for a very expensive drive upgrade, which a person then decides the money is better spent buying a new machine.

  • Exporting from iPhoto: "Not enough disk space to complete this operation"

Hello. I am trying to compile a quick time slide show. There are 72 photos with a total size of 136mb. I get the error "there is not enough disk space to complete this operation" when I try and Export it to my Desktop. Is there a limitation on size to export to Quicktime slide show? I have never noticed this problem before.
    Thanks.

Greetings--I may have solved this one myself. I knew I had plenty of HD space (92GB) so that wasnt the problem as the error indicated, so:
1--'poofed' iPhoto icon from the Dock--(don't know what the exact description is, but I removed the iPhoto icon from the Dock and it disappeared in a cloud of poof!).
2--I ran Disc Utility and repaired the HD.
    3-- I then did a Restart.
My Export to Quicktime seems to be working okay at the moment with no more error
message so maybe the HD just needed straightening up. If you dont hear from me on here again, consider the problem solved.
    Cheers.

  • Not enough disk space to install sims 2 from app store?

I've seen lots of threads resolving the problem of there not being enough disk space when installing sims by a CD Disk, but I'm trying to download it from the app store so none of them apply.
I have 12 GB of space free on my macbook and the application only needs 7.52 GB.
    Ideas?
I keep getting 'not enough disk space available'.
I can't open it from the applications folder rather than the Disk because I haven't been allowed to buy/instal it yet.

I have cleared 17 GB of hard disk space and 11 GB of memory space.
The requirements online when installed say 10 GB of hard disk and 4 GB of memory.
I bought my Mac last year so I don't think my system is too old.
    Ideas now?
When I get above 17 GB it instals but at the end of the hour long installation it again tells me it failed to download, not mentioning space .

  • What does error message when trying to burn DVD from iDVD mean "not enough disk space to burn the remaining assets"

I created a DVD in idvd and now when trying to burn to DVD using external burner, I get the error message
"not enough disk space to encode the remaining assets". I am using a brand new blank DVD.
I have read the help info on computer but hasnt proved helpful.
    Any suggestions?

iDVD requires a fair amount of disk space to carry out the encoding process; depending on your project, you may need to have over 25 GB free space on your startup hard drive.  How much free space do you have?

  • OS X Mountain Lion Install - Not Enough Disk Space

I am installing OS X Mountain Lion.   The download went fine.   It rebooted and began the install then failed because there is not enough disk space.  The solution is obviously to make more room on the disk.
The problem is that everytime I boot my Macbook now, it takes me immediately into the installation for OS X Mountain Lion.  I cant seem to get back into the OS to clean up disk space.
Is there any way to force my Macbook to boot to Snow Leopard again?   If not, is there any way to clear up disk space from within the OS X Mountain Lion installer or the OSX Utilities?   I'd prefer not to have to wipe my entire Macbook and restore from backup then go through the upgrade again after freeing up disk space.
    Thanks,

In fact, as far as memory serves, this one I bought [B.T.O. option] was one of the 1st 64bit offerings made available.
But thanks for weighing in …

Even the graphics capabilities, are in the favor of the MacPro, which I opted for:
ATI Radeon X1900 XT, rather than the default option at the time.
This graphics card is due to be replaced with the newer 5870 upgraded card.
Just have not slipped it in the case, as yet.
But even without the graphics card update, it is still better than the MacBook's graphics capabilities, surely?

  • "Not enough disk space" when there seems to be (+ rapid memory consumption)

[Note: I originally posted this in the iDVD section, but due to an answer I got there to another question and further conversations with my daughter, figured out this is probably an iMovie question?]
I'm a newbie to iDVD and iMovie and Forums (my last Mac was a Performa 6360--still using it for the family budget). I got my daughter a MacBook as a graduation gift. She is using it to combine movie inputs from a wedding/reception that come from digital camreas and a couple of video cameras. We went to Flip4Mac to get the necessary software/features to import .wmv files (only way we could download one of the video cameras was by going from PC to Mac--can't remember if it was a Sony or Canon).
Issue: When she tries to import vidoes into iMovie HD 6.0.3 which have already been transferred to her computer, she gets: "The file could not be imported: There is not enough disk space to import Macintosh HD/Users/julie/pictures/iPhoto Library/Originals/2007/Roll8/CIMG1442.AVI" [She says this is about a 4 min. clip.]
Basically the question is how to get more room on her disk to import and to save? She seems to only be able to Save--she can't Save Project as an option because it says she doesn't have enough disk space (she's already deleted the Trash). Help says you need to have more than 400mb of free space or it gets difficult but the indicator shows 28.8GB free space left...so there seems to be some kind of disconnect?? (Or maybe we're talking apples and oranges?)
[Even more disturbing, just in the last couple of days with only a little time spent on the computer, the 28.8 GB has dropped to 2.3GB--obviously there is something she is doing that she is not aware of or shouldn't be doing that is consuming memory at a rapid pace.] On top of that, she also gets the same error message when she tries to burn the project onto a disk using iDVD???
I went through the first 5 pages of the forum and couldn't see a similar problem, but then I may have not known what to look for?
Any help would be greatly appreciated...she's trying to give the DVD as a Wedding gift--somewhat belated.

    Hello Karstn Schluter,
This is fm's daughter who is havin ghte difficulites. at the end you tell me to try to answer 1-8 so i will try.
1- how can you tell if the avi is containing divx? or not?? do I need to just keep this in mind when importing these files
2- I have not brought in an external drive. I did try making my laptop computer a harddrive so I could import my imovie poject to my eMAC at one point, but it was not allowing me to do that either. Because I had to have it in DVD form or something
3- No I did not segment the internal drive....sorry How do you do that??? Right now I am trying to find out what is taking up all the memory and Hard Disk Drive space....i do not know how to do that either....Do you know how???
4-Yes I know flip4mac is for wmv....I guess what that question was emplying was that I also have wmv files that I am trying to import to imovieHD and that is not working either...I can get my avi to get into imovieHD, but not my wmv. files
5-THank you for the tip with the trash then another question to this one how do you delet projects that are taking up memory that are no longer in use?
6-Thank you for the tip...so then ignore the not enough disk space.....how can you alter the disk space so that you can save the project under save project as and not just save project?
7- Sorry my dad was miss informed I cannot import the wmv. files to imovie and I cannot import imovie to iDVD I only have transferred one and then all of the other files are not seen as movies so I can not import them?? Does that make since
8- When we were useing the Sony Camera originally we could not import the video to the MAC because it did not have the correct firewire cable and it would not been read onto the MAC computer. So, we have to buy the flip4mac equipment so that I would be able ot download the inoformation to the computer by a wmv.file dvd so we are having difficulites trying to import that file.
I hope these answers clear up the question a little bit more and sorry that your answers brought out more questions. Thank you very much for helping me. I was using a different program in my college class so changing to imovie and idvd has been a huge struggle for me. Thank you once again.

  • Clean Install G4 Dual 1 GHz-Not enough Disk Space Error? -SLOW USB copies

    HELP puhleeeeze!
This seems to be an issue on various sites with no one being able to figure out what is the cause and a solution. One person stated his problem went away with a fullwipe and clean-reinstall of everything. But this is what I did already.
What is the reason for the "Not Enough Disk Space" error message when both my hard drives have gigs of space available. If I had hair I'd be pulling it out by now!   When trying to copy a file to my 2 internal hard drives that have a lot of space available, but only by the USB port?!!
I have a Power Mac G4 Mirrored Door (MDD) Dual 1 GHz with a clean install of 10.5.8 from the Original Mac OS X Leopard DVD. Both internal hard drives are 60GB and 100GB. The hard drives were wiped clean with Disc Utilities and reformatted to Mac OS Extended (Journaled). The Power Mac only has the OS and a few music apps installed. Easily over 30 GB of space left on the the main G4 interal hard drive and about 75 GB on the other internal hard drive.
The error seems to only happen when I connect a USB flash drive to the USB port. I tried to copy a 50MB update to the desktop-"Not Enough Disk Space" error message happened.
I know that the G4 MDD Power Macs only have USB 1.0. Is this a USB 2.0 issue? Another issue is that it has very slow USB speed (dramtically slower than normal USB 1.0 copying of files. And this is only when it is successful. Is it a USB format issue? I know I couldn't get an external USB 2.0 drive to mount on the Power Mac at all. Disc Utilities could see it but it still would not mount. I have a friend who has an older G4 single processor Mac that doesn't experience these issues with its USB 1.0 ports.
    Now here's the kicker:
If I put in a CD disc in the DVD/RW drive, it copies with no problems to either hard drive. If I connect to the Power Mac  via the ethernet network, files can copy with no problems. But any USB connection -  I get a the "Not Enough Disk Space" error message. I know this is an old mac... but it's never been problematic until this latest wipe and update to Leopard 10.5.8.
Is there a solution to this? Any and all help, feedback, comments, thoughts are greatly appreciated in advance!!!

    Hello everyone,
Ok, I did the ultimate task. I erased the hard drives, AGAIN. Just to start fresh from scratch. Hard drives were erased. Did a new install of Mac OS 10.5. And all was well. I could copy with no problems. I gave the computer to my friend and all was good for a couple of days and then the issue came back again. He couldn't copy anything to his internal hard drives and we received the "Not enough disk space" error message! I was baffled. A complete hard drive erase 2 times, 2 fresh Mac OS 10.5 installs and it works for a few days and then coping to HD we got the same **** problem again! THEN - I remembered that the PRAM battery was dead on this G4 Mirrored-Door Dual 1GHz PowerMac. I had recommended that he get a new battery, because this computer would always have the incorrect date and time after every restart. So with recalling this, I had him reset the PRAM by holding down the CMD+OPT+P+R keys after a restart (start-up Chime). I had him hold the keys for at least 3 start-up-chimes. Soon as the G4 Power Mac started up everything was fine again. He was able to copy files to his hard drives again with the "Not enough disk space" error message.
So everyone! Try zapping your PRAM (resetting the PRAM) and see if this solves your problem. I told my friend to get a new PRAM battery to replace the old one that is completely dead. I have not heard back from him.  I will ask him again if the problem has come back.
If that fails: My only other solution would be to consider that it is possible that Mac OS 10.5 has a conflict or issue with the G4 Processors and maybe it is safer to install Mac OS 10.3 or 10.4. Because this problem only has occured after installing Mac OS 10.5, the highest version of the Mac OS the Dual 1GHz Mirrored-Door G4 can be installed.
    Cheers,
    B

The very best way to do this is with ethernet to the existing router. Put the TC in bridge mode manually.
Then plug it in to existing router.. we recommend LAN router to WAN on the TC but even that is not 100% necessary.
If you want to link by wireless, to a non-apple router that is bad.. recommend strongly against it. Join a wireless network is super slow.
If you have a desktop Mac you can plug it directly into the Mac by ethernet.
But we need to know how the Mac is connected to internet.
I have given some info on one layout here.
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4817218?tstart=30
If you end up relying on an old TC. And any of the models from Gen1-3.. and increasingly Gen4 have all reached EOL.. they can die suddenly and either take your files with them or be hard to recover. Also a TC is slow cf a USB external drive even, which is more reliable. Considering a 2TB is <$100 I would be careful using an old TC simply because you got it free.

I've been checking my email via webmail for a week and am back in the office today. Fired up Thunderbird, expecting it to pick up all my email, but it gets nothing and tells me…
Sending of password for user [email protected] did not succeed. Mail server pop.ipower.com responded: Not enough disk space
Haven't seen this particular error message come up in searches via google and at mozilla. There's definitely disk space on my machine. I'm running TB on a Mac (OSX 10.6.8). Disk Space options under Preferences > Advanced let me assign up to 1024 mb for the cache, which I've done, and cleared.
Has anyone encountered this before? Got a solve/troubleshooting process? Thanks!

Thanks. I do compact regularly (TB prompts me to) and did it (several times) via Preferences today to try and get TB past this error message.
Also went thru and Trashed + Empty Trashed as many messages as possible from the inbox, just in case. Still no-go.

  • Windows Easy Transfer, not enough disk space

I am trying to transfer my files and settings from old WinXP to new Win7 PC, using Windows 7 Easy Transfer. I am using the network transfer option on my home network. The wizard is pretty straightforward and all went well until I clicked Transfer. I got
an error message that said not enough disk space. (It did not say which PC.) The transfer size is 32 GB, but I have 550 GB available on Win7. The XP PC has only 10 GB free, but why should that matter?
And yes, the Win7 PC is marked as the "new" computer.
    Thanks for any suggestions.

    Hi,
May I know how many drives you transferred?
Windows Easy Transfer maps the old computer drives to the new computer drives while transferring data. In other words, information on each drive on your old computer
will be transferred to the respective drives on your new computer. Therefore, if the size on the other partition doesn't have enough disk space then we come across the error: "Not enough hard drive space available"
I recommend the following two suggestions.
    1. Click on Advanced when transferring files from the old computer and select the only files and settings that you want to transfer, if other partitions are selected
make sure to uncheck them if it’s not required for you to transfer.
    2. Try to transfer one partition data at a time and check.
Once the transfer process is successful or failure, you can anytime view Windows Easy Transfer Reports to know the details about the transfer.
To open Windows Easy Transfer Reports
