Not enough free space in system storage?

It would be nice if Sony could respond with some actual solutions that work or at least show they're working on it. ***** I've been going through this for over a month now no solution

I just thought I should give an update. It's still happening. Right now, In fact, with the update for The Elder Scrolls Online. If I delete something substantial, it'll let me download the patches, but I shouldn't have to do this every time. I had 38GB of free space before trying to download it. I had to delete Resident Evil Revelations 2, giving me 58GB of free space before a 15GB patch could be downloaded. I'm glad I was moved from the much more popular US boards to here, despite my complaint having nothing to do with my location. The level of support has been excellent so far... /sarcasm.

  • WBAdmin BMR backup says "There is not enough free space on the backup storage location to back up the data."

We're doing nightly BMR backups of a small 2012 R2 Hyper-V host via wbadmin to 2TB USB disks, via
wbadmin start backup -backupTarget:z: -quiet -noverify -vssFull -include:e:,c: -allCritical
(where E: contains the sole VM).
We are using the same backup system on other similar Hyper-V hosts running 2008 R2 and 2012, with no problems. However, with this 2012 R2 host, after a few months of no problems the backups started failing with:
There is not enough free space on the backup storage location to back up the data.
This made no sense, and continues to make no sense:
The 2TB backup disks are only half full (>1TB free), with 600GB of unallocated shadowstorage.
There should be room for many more backups on these disks. Each currently contains 11 to 13 backups, with the initial full backup having required about 600GB and each subsequent backup only requiring another 20GB to 40GB.
There is over 40GB free on the C: drive and 300GB free on the E: drive; free space on the host volumes is not an issue.
Increasing the shadowstorage limit on the backup disks to unbounded doesn't resolve the issue.
This is not a problem of a RECOVERY partition that's too small, and SystemState backups always complete successfully.
The first workaround we found was to temporarily reduce (not increase) the shadowstorage allocation on the E: drive (containing the VM) and then increase it back (with the end result of deleting old shadow copies).
This worked reliably, but looking for a root cause led us to uninstall the Windows Updates installed mid-September (in particular the Aug 2014 and Sep 2014 roll-ups), which preceded the start of this problem. But instead of resolving the problem the uninstalls
made it worse, in that our workaround stopped working.
We reinstalled the Windows Updates, and then tried setting backup performance to normal, in case the problem was related to VSS on the host volumes, but the errors continued.
At this point the only way we've found to work around the error is to delete 1 or 2 of the oldest backups on the destination disk, via
      wbadmin delete backup -backupTarget:z: -deleteOldest
after which the new backup will succeed.
But, again, this makes no sense, as the destination disks are only half full, and even if space was an issue wbadmin should delete old backups as required. And this same system is working fine on 2008 R2 and 2012.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    John

    Hi John,
Please check run the command below to check if the space required to complete the backup causes the snapshot storage space to become less than 1/8 of the target size.
vssadmin list shadows /for=x: will list the shadow copies on x: and creation time.
WSB will not shrink the diff area to less than 1/8 of Target volume size as we do not want to lose all past backups just to accommodate this one.

It means you try to sync an amount of content to your iPod Mini that exceeds for 4 GB, or the amount of space that is available on the iPod.  See this article for more details.

If you haven't changed your sync preferences, meaning that you are not trying to add more content from the last time that you synced with iTunes, try quitting iTunes, restart your computer and then try again.
If you are trying to add more content to the iPad than what you had before, you can only use so much of the available storage capacity that is left on the device. You probably need to leave about 10% of the space free so if you have a 16GB iPad, you might not have enough space left to sync that content that you are trying to sync.

  • I phone won't sync because there is not enough free space

When I try to sync my phone it says there is not enough free space but I have 3.3 gigs available.  What should I do?

It looks like it had to do with ICould storage. I had my older phones still attached to it so deleted them off and it gave me free space.

I purchased some children's books from iTunes on my Mac computer and then tried to sync to my iPad and received the note that " The iPad cannot be synced because there is not enough free space to hold all of the items in the iTunes library (additional 2.53 GB required)."
I do not know what steps to take to be able to free up space so I can sync these e-books to my iPad.  I do not know how to find the iTunes library on the iPad to identify what I would need to delete.

How much space is your Other using? You may be able to reduce.
How Do I Get Rid Of The “Other” Data Stored On My iPad Or iPhone?
    http://tinyurl.com/85w6xwn
With an iOS device, the “Other” space in iTunes is used to store things like documents, settings, caches, and a few other important items. If you sync lots of documents to apps like GoodReader, DropCopy, or anything else that reads external files, your storage use can skyrocket. With iOS 5, you can see exactly which applications are taking up the most space. Just head to Settings > General > Usage, and tap the button labeled Show All Apps. The storage section will show you the app and how much storage space it is taking up. Tap on the app name to get a description of the additional storage space being used by the app’s documents and data. You can remove the storage-hogging application and all of its data directly from this screen, or manually remove the data by opening the app. Some applications, especially those designed by Apple, will allow you to remove stored data by swiping from left to right on the item to reveal a Delete button.

  • Not enough free space on iPad

I tend to travel a lot so when I am gone for long periods I sync my devices with my laptop but when I am home I prefer to use my desktop as it obviously has my entire library on it and not just a portion of it.
My problem occurs when I tell my iPad to sync to my system again. It will sync initially just fine but the second I try to add any major content to it (not music, apps or books) it gives me the error "not enough free space". Even if I erase all non-app content on the iPad and it tells me I have over 100GB of available space the second I try to add 7 movies I get the same error message.
All the "help" articles I have found seem to assume you don't actually have enough free space or just plain don't work.
I found one of the problems that may cause this is not having content on my laptop that exists on my iPad when I first try to sync it. For some reason this drives iTunes into an error it can't escape from even if you tell it to copy the content from your iPad.
The only way I have currently found around this is to do a full restore (not from a back-up) each time I bounce between machines which is of course a pain in the rear and takes a while.
Anyone have any suggestions on another way to fix the problem?

Using two machines is probably the issue. The ipad really wasn't designed to be synced to multiple machines.

I believe the reference is to space on your hard drive, not on your iPhone.
Freeing Up Space on The Hard Drive
    See Lion's Storage Display.
You can remove data from your Home folder except for the /Home/Library/ folder.
Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on freeing up space on your hard drive.
Also see Freeing space on your Mac OS X startup disk.
See Where did my Disk Space go?.
    See The Storage Display.
You must Empty the Trash in order to recover the space they occupied on the hard drive.
You should consider replacing the drive with a larger one. Check out OWC for drives, tutorials, and toolkits.

  • 'Back-up is corrupt.', "Not enough free space"

I got my third ipod touch (4th gen) yesterday and I'm having trouble backing it up to my iTunes account. The first time, after it tried to restore, it said "The backup is corrupt or not compatible"-something like that. Later, it tried to sync and I got another pop-up, something like "There is not enough free space. free space needed is 2.77 GB". i then deleted several songs and apps until it went down to 1.01GB. I then started unchecking things, etc. At one point I had absolutely everything unchecked. The colored bar at the bottom that tells you the number of what data is songs, books, etc. was one big yellow bar of "other" (even though I had apps, movies, etc. unchecked!!). I then tried to sync one more time...and it STILL needs 1 megabyte, yes, just 1 megabyte. i didn't have this problem at all when i backed up my second ipod...(my first ipod broke, my second was lost). The only difference is...this ipod is white. the other 2 were black. does it really make a difference? Oh, and I did another restore today...same "backup is corrupt message"... I x-outed and open up itunes again on my computer, it tried to sync but once again i got "needs 1.01 GB" (everything I unchecked before is back, the bar of data is now a rainbow again). Oh and one more thing: my second ipod was having numerous problems just before it was lost...whenever I synced it, it would often disconnect itself because "the temperature was too high" (when it was room temperature) or "this device is not compatible" (even though I was using a USB chord). I would almost always get pop-ups about there not being enough storage for the backup on iCloud...but I'm not using iCloud, I'm using iTunes on windows...what can I do????

Thanks for taking the time to follow up and offer your insight. It looks like your solution hasn't really worked for me, but what I have noticed is this:
It seems to occur when I change my backup option from "computer" to "icloud"
I suspect that itunes does not like me switching it back and forth, and bugs out upon syncing.
If you're wondering why I switch between the two, sometimes (like last week, when a new over-the-air update was released), I wanted to update my iOS immediately, so as usual, I *always* backup before upgrading the iOS.
I'll try deleting all my iCloud backups, and see if we have some success.
    Stay tuned.

  • IPhone" cannot be synced because there is not enough free space to hold all of the items in the iTunes library

iPhone” cannot be synced because there is not enough free space to hold all of the items in the iTunes library

What do you do about it? Be more selective about what you're syncing to it. Don't try to sync your entire library, just what you actually want to take with you. If you want to take more with you than what you have room for, buy a phone with more storage capacity.
Alternately, you can have music automatically transcoded to a lower bitrate. Not in front of iTunes, so don't recall the exact wording. It takes much longer to sync the first time, but should consume much less space and you shouldn't take the time hit after the first full sync.

  • BR1049W Not enough free space in /oracle/SID/sapdata

    Hi Everybody,
I am trying to extend a tablespace through BR*tools. However I'm getting the Warning :
BR1049W Not enough free space in /oracle/SID/sapdata1 for total maximum size of all database files of tablespace...
As you could see below, I have still about 100 GB free on this logical volume.
Filesystem     GB blocks     Free     %Used     Iused     %Iused     Mounted on
    /dev/sapdata_lvSID     899.88     99.97     89%     179     1%     /oracle/SID/sapdata1
    I wanted to add a datafile (size = 32GB), it didn't work.
    Best regards
    Latif

Can you please provide the SQL statement the brtools is issuing when adding the datafile. Probably ,for all the datafiles which are in /oracle/SID/sapdata1 , if the max size is added up , then the value is greater than the filesystem size. Please check in dba_data_files the maximum size upto which datafiles in sapdata1 can extend.
    Use this to check:
    select sum(MAXBYTES)/1024/1024/1024 from dba_data_files where FILE_NAME like '%sapdata1%';
if the value returned + the new datafile max size is > file system size you will get the above error.

  • Not Enough Free Space - SD Card

I am trying to copy 500MB of pictures onto an SD card.  Each time I try, it says there is not enough free space.  Are there any options?  This has ocurred on more than one SD card and more than one USB Drive.
This seems to be a bug in the OS.
I have read through the forums and have already done the following:
    1.  Emptied the trash (While the SD card was mounted)
    2.  Reformatted the disk multiple times (Erase in Disk Utility)
    3.  Tried adding a second partition to ensure that was not the issue.
    4.  Formatted it into all three other formats that are available (extFAT, Mac Extended Journaled, & Mac Extended Case Sensitive).
They all work fine except FAT 16.  The largest file I have is under 1MB.  The other formats do not work in my Picture Frame.  I can copy them over from a windows computer without any issues.  This is incredibly frustrating.  Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

Having the same problem on multiple 2GB SD cards, running 10.8.3 on a 2010 MacBook Pro. Trying to copy anything to the card results in a "there isn't enough space" message, always at the same file in the collection. (If I remove that file from the list, another one will then cause the error.) The card was freshly formatted (FAT32) each time.
As a control, I tried writing to the disk on a more recent Air running 10.7.5, successfully; and by firing up a VirtualBox image running Ubuntu and mounting the SD card through the host system, copying successfully.
So it's not a card fault, and it isn't hardware failure as such.
This is a new bug since some version of 10.8.x; prior to Mountain Lion, I've had no problems. (There is another SD problem - cards often get mounted read-only, whatever position the card lock switch is in.)
Also frustrated and unhappy; help likewise appreciated.
