Not Enough Free Space when downloading Iphone photos

I recently updated my mac from OSX 10.5 to 10.6 after installing a new hard drive after the original one crashed. I was able to successfully install and update my mac to the latest version of Snow Leopard without a hitch. Now for some reason when I am synching my Iphone or any device to download from I get an error saying there is not enough free space. I have a 120Gb hard drive with 70Gb available. I opened Disk Utility and ran the Disk Verification that came back ok, I then did a permissions clean up, reset my NVRAM  and trashed all of my library/preferences/com.apple files. I even went into itunes 11 and selected a new folder to download to. IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE I CAN DO!? I feel like there is some string of coding that is still left over thats trying to access my old drive...
My Stats:     1.83 GHz Intel Core Duo
                    Memory 2 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
                    OS X 10.6.8
                    Itunes 11
                    70 Gb of free space
                    Iphone 4s 16GB
Thanks!

I have 1.6 GB left on my phone but im not trying to upload to my phone. I am trying to download pics and videos from it so I can free up more space. I will however try your suggestion and delete stuff that I have on the cloud to free up even more room.

How is the flash drive formatted? Open Disk Utility (Applications>Utilities) and see how it's formatted - that might be the problem.

  • Not Enough Free Space when there is more than enough

My ipod's capacity is 6GB but when I go to update it, i-tunes won't let me because it says there is not enough free space. I'm only trying to update 3.3GB onto my ipod. Can I get around this somehow?

You can try restoring the ipod, this wipes it clean and itunes adds it all back UNLESS you don't have the files/songs on the PC

  • "Not enough free space" when there is

I'm trying to copy a bunch of fairly small files to a 512 MB SD card using an external card reader. Even though the Finder tells me there is, say, 300 MB available, when I try to copy a number of files at once, I'll get a message telling me that a certain file can not be copied because there is not enough free space. However, if I go back and try to copy that file and a few others, they'll copy without a problem. I'll copy another relatively small number without a problem and then try another bunch and get the error "not enough free space" message again.
While I eventually did copy all the files in small bunches, it was a drag and I'd love to find out why it didn't work in one large bunch. . . .

Perhaps the write-speed to the card via the card reader
(likely just in the card's circuitry itself) is too slow to take
a load of files for copying that way. Given some of the
camera cards can barely move one image at a time to
the card from the camera's processor, you have to figure
this load of several strings of different files at once has
to be a considerable load on the card's limited speed.
Some cameras and devices with fast image processors
can use faster memory cards. If you need to drag-drop
images or files in large capacity groups, consider getting
a faster speed card and see if that helps. Or use a USB
    Flash Drive, since some of them do better with file groups;
if just using the device to move large files between PCs.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • After a restore still not enough free space to download itunes library

After several problems syncing my ipod/itunes (I had not used either in a long time), I downloaded the new version of itunes and still had problems. Then I restored my ipod through this new version of itunes and now it says I do not have enough free space to update my ipod and this bar located at the summary tab says I have 4gb available, which doesn't make sense to me since I thought I had 60gb (I really don't understand this stuff). Yet when I turn on my ipod there is absolutely nothing on it (since I restored it). I'm so confused...help!

    Which iPod do you have?

  • Not enough free space when there is - iTunes says I have over 9GB free but when I sync it says I can't as i don't have enough storage and need another 1.3GB!  it's driving me mad!!  help!!

iTunes says I have over 9GB free but when I sync it says I can't as i don't have enough storage and need another 1.3GB!  it's driving me mad!!  help!!

Check carefully. Perhaps you are trying to copy 9 GB plus 1.3 GB for a total of 10.3 GB. That would give you the message you see.

  • Not enough free space when syncing iPod touch?

    Hi all!
I'm having a seriously frustrating issue with my iTunes (Windows 7) when syncing with my 5th gen iPod touch:
It seems to me like it wants to sync my whole library twice, seeing as the whole thing is 26.33GB, and I'm not sure why!
    I've tried:
backing up and restoring my iPod
    deselecting 'Sync Music'
syncing it through both wired connection and Wi-Fi
Bearing in mind I really don't want to restore it completely, well, you can see why from the usage!
So if anyone has any ideas or you want me to provide more information please ask. (I desperately want to get some new albums on there!)

  • ITunes could not restore iPhone (from backup) because not enough free space on *iPhone*?!

    Hey everyone,
I recently upgraded to iOS 6 and before I upgraded, I made sure to make a backup because I know upgrading to the new OS can often cause people to lose their things. After upgrading to iOS 6, I found I had everything except for all my messages and some of my contacts (it appears all contacts I added within the past 6-7 months or so are gone, but the older ones are there). I need my messages and those newer contacts, so I want to restore from the backup I made before upgrading to iOS 6, but unfortunately, I get an error message saying iTunes could not restore from backup because there is not enough free space on my iPhone. Note, not my computer or my hard disk, my iPhone. First of all I don't see why I would need free space on my iPhone to restore it, and secondly, I have about 5GBs of free space on it. What can I do?

Yes. Those are the only ones saved by iTunes, as the working assumption is that all the other photos are on your computer and thus can be synced from that source, without the backup duplicating them and taking long time and lots of space. Photos on the camera roll are assumed to be not yet Transferred.
    A few random-thoughts suggestions...
Not sure if you tried this multiple times, but it might worth doing. Just remember to cancell the Sync as soon after connecting so you don't overwrite the backup.
    1. Check if you still have an older backup that might have the pictures. Follow the instruction by user Linda Custer in this discussion: https://discussions.apple.com/message/13011509#13011509
    2. Check the links in the More Like This box on the right, or do a search for your issue on these forums or on Google.
    3. Find third party utilities that treat the iPhone as an external USB disk and therefore allow for extracting photo files directly from the device, bypassing iTunes. Search here, Google or check MacUpdate:  http://www.macupdate.com/
And perhaps the most obvious, that I forgot to ask about:
    4. If you switched iCloud on, and selected backup to iCloud you should have a backup outside of your computer; just select the iCloud backup, instead of the local one, for Restore.
    5. If you switched iCloud on and checked PhotoStream on, you should have the camera roll photos in the cloud and can retrieve them from the cloud via the Web site, your Photo app, etc.
    Good luck.

  • When I am importing photos from DVD rom, iPhoto shows " not enough free space on the volume containing your iPhoto library", but i have over 200G free in hard drive? how do i fix it?

    Mac Pro Book
    Mac OS X 10.7.5
    iPhoto 11 9.4.2
importing photos into iphoto, shows "Photo cannot import your photos because there is not enough free space on the volume containing your iPhoto library."
tried creat new library, same thing.
currently only has 2,500 photos in iPhoto
Importing about 500 photos, but cant do it due to the message showed above.
Who knows how to fix it?

How much free space do you have on your hard drive?  Try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
User/Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder (Snow Leopard and Earlier).
or with Mt. Lion from the User/Library/Containers/com.apple.iPhoto/
    Data/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder
3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto.  You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
NOTE 2:  In Lion and Mountain Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.

  • TS1503 After an update on my iPhone 4, (I updated using my MacBook Pro) I first received the message, iTunes was not able to load all of iTunes library back on your phone, not enough free space on your phone. (not an exact quote, essentially the same mean

The complete iTunes library was already on my iPhone 4. Why would it all not go back on? It left out around 4 or 5 songs from my play list. How do I get them back on my iPhone?
Note: All software on both devices is up to date.
Then, I tried to sync my iPhone to my MacBook Pro. I got the message, cannot sync your iPhone because there is not enough free space in the iTunes library (not exact quote, but same meaning).
I researched how to get more free space on my phone which might 'supposedly' alleviate the above issues. I removed some less used apps, and some photos and videos from my phone. Then, I tried backing up again. I still got the message there wasn't enough free space on my phone, and the missing songs from the iTunes library were not returned to my phone. I gave another try at syncing my iPhone. I still got the same message that the phone couldn't be synced because  there wasn't enough free space in the iTunes library.
Any suggestions on how to remedy these problems will be appreciated!
BTW... I read a suggestion on the internet to restore my phone (I did  this recently when something went wrong during a phone update and the whole process went 'hey-wire', shutting down before the update was complete. However, at that time, all of my songs and apps were still on my phone and stored in the iTunes library.) If I restore my iPhone now, will the apps and songs no longer on my phone be lost?
Sorry there are so many questions within the same 'New Discussion' thread I'm starting! But, I think all of these issues are somehow related.
    Thanks!

I Have fumbled all day to this resolved, I'll run the battery down and see what happens afterwards. This is not good !

  • "iPhone cannot be synced because there is not enough free space

I recently purchased a new computer and I used home sharing to get all of my media onto my new computer.
Every time I try to sync I get the message "The iPhone "(Insert iPhone name here)" cannot be synced because there is not enough free space to hold all of the items in the iTunes library (additional [amount of space needed] required)"
I have a 32GB iPhone and I have it set to sync my entire music library (9.3GB), selected movies (not all my movies)(9.6GB), and I also have it set to sync my apps (2.5GB).  there is 3GB of photos and 1.32GB of other, I know there is enough room on my iPhone to house all of the content I have selected to be synced but for some reason I keep getting the same message which tells me I need an addition 15.30GB.
Also I have tried to re-sync my iPhone with the old computer I used to sync it to and now I'm getting the same message I get on my new computer on the old one.  My old computer was windows as well.
I have the latest iTunes and iOS for my iPhone.  I don't know what is wrong or how to fix it.  I have tried to refer to the web and have had no results so far.  Help would be greatly appreciated.

In case anyone is interested, I found a solution.
My interpretation of the problem is that somehow the iPhone lost track of free space and this process will clear that while not losing any data or settings on the iPhone.
This will also solve the problem where iTunes has lost the app/folder layout on the iPhone.
Please note I am not a technician and make no claim that this will work for anyone else, but it did for me. The steps below are as I remember them and may not be exactly the same for everyone.
    1) Backup the iPhone - I used iTunes to backup although this may also work with iCloud but I've not tried
    2) Reset the iPhone - from settings on the iPhone (settings/general/reset (etc))
    3) Carefully follow all the steps and choose to restore when you get to that step
    4) Keep you eye on iTunes as you will have to respond there when it askes which backup set to use for the restore - it is likely that the most recent will be the one you want.
    Good luck.

  • The iPhone cannot be synced. Not enough free space

    Hi,
My iPhone is playing up. I'm receiving this message when trying to Sync with iTunes.
"The iPhone cannot be synced because there is not enough free space to hold all of the selected items (additional 1 MB required)."
I've backed up and deleted photos. Made a back up on my Mac and iCloud.
Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

For any future visitors to this page, I've fixed the problem.
First, make sure you've copied all your music to your library by right clicking it in itunes and selecting 'transfer purchases', then manually delete all of the music from your device and sync again.
It seems that itunes was adding the size of the music on the iPhone to the size of the music to be synced, instead of realising that the music on the phone would be overwritten.

  • TS4036 itunes could not restore the iphone because not enough free space is available on the iphone

On April 13, 2013 i plugged my phone in and itunes immediately started an upgrade on my iphone 4 operating system to ios 6.1.3.  ONce it completed my phone was restored to factury settings.  When i tried restore my backup to the phone, i got the following message
itunes could not restore the iphone because not enough free space is available on the iphone
I am so ****** because i can't figure out a way to at least get my photos from this back...its all lost
I spoke with an Apple rep that day named Jamie who was supposed to help me retrieve my data, but we couldn't figure it out and he asked me to call back in a day or so to get it done.  When I called back, i left several messages and got no response.  Now i try calling support and they want money before they will talk to me.
    Somebody please help.
    Thanks

If you restored your phone as new there should be plenty of free space on it.  Check Settings>General>Usage to see how much free space you have.

  • HT1414 I just got a replacement iPhone 5 (64MB) for one with a cracked face, and tried to restore it.  Got an error message saying the iTunes could not restore the iPhone because not enough free space is available on the iPhone.  Now what?

I just replaced my iPhone 5 because of a cracked face.  I backed up the old phone to iTunes.  When I tried to restore my data off of iTunes to the new phone, I got an error message saying that iTunes could not restore the iPhone because not enough free space is available on the new iPhone.  Now what?
I have Apple Care+, but I'll be darned if I can find any way to contact anyone at Apple to talk to about this.  They take your money, but make darned sure they don't have to support you unless you jump through a bunch of hoops first, like this site.

I've done a restore.. The phone was completely wiped back to factory settings.. It then tells me there isn't enough space on the phone to restore from back up? How when the phone is empty?!
