Not enough memory space for clips recorded (transfer from DV to imovie)

Hi.
This is one question that I have always wanted to ask, but since I hard edit a long video clips, so I have been procrastinating to ask this question.
Recently, been asked to film a childcare performance for a friend. estimated amount of clips I would captured will be at least 1 hr-worthed.
Here's the thing, my powerbook has a memory of 40G, I think I am left with only 2-3 G to play with. Mostly taken up by software.
However, I do have an external hard drive that have about 30G-worthed of memory still.
But the question is how to import the DV clips from video cam to powerbook, tapping into the external hard disk space instead of the internal hard disk?
I am working on a very urgent timeline. SO will really appreciate your help and advise on this. Thanks very much!
Cheers.

The problem with this is that you have to have iMovie
installed on the external hard drive first. After
that, you would open iMovie (external drive) and
create a project (external drive) and work on it
there (external drive).
Yeah, the clips go to your internal disk because
that's where you have iMovie. To use your external
drive for iMovie, you most likely need to have it
there (external) first.
Sorry, Cristobal, but that's incorrect. The location of the iMovie application does not control the location of the iMovie project. The iMovie application should be allowed to remain in the Applications folder, where it was installed.
The user decides the location of the project when creating a new project. When you choose File > New Project, the save file dialog that opens lets you navigate to any drive, and save the project in any folder of that drive. It works exactly like every other Mac application.
All video imported from the camera is stored inside the currently-active project, whichever drive that project resides on. It's not necessary to tell iMovie where to import the video. It goes in the active project.
If you want to move an existing project to a different drive, that's possible too. Just drag it there and discard the project on the source drive.

  • "not enough disk space for asset encoding" error message

I'm using DVD SP 4.2.1 and trying to burn a DL DVD. Every time I try to build the TS folders somewhere, I get the "not enough disk space for asset encoding" message. I have PLENTY of space (over 100GB) where I'm assigning it to create the TS folders. I don't understand why I'm getting the message. Your help is appreciated.

    Max,
I think you're onto something here. I noticed that the original disk (an old Iomega Peerless 20GB removable hard drive) was nearly full. I also saved the DVD Studio Pro file for the project to the same drive. I think that, somehow, the application looked to that drive to do something and got a "disk full" message from that disk and gave me the error.
The workaround was to transfer all the assets AND the project file to another hard disk with plenty of space (over 100 GB). The settings for the DVD Studio Pro encoding process remained the same…my computer's internal hard disk with its 30 GB of free space. I re-linked the assets and the disk building and encoding process went smoothly and I'm now the proud owner of a finished DVD.
There's probably something lurking in the background here, but this worked for me.
Thanks for making the suggestion to look deeper! My problem is solved!

  • Error msg - not enough memory available for this task - chm file

    Hi All
I am using RoboHelp for HTML 8.0 and creating chm file.  I am using context sensitive help and the F1 key functionality.  I have in the past created some map ID's with F1 and they have worked properly with our company software application.  Now, I have a different database with our company and a larger help file and it is not working.  I am told that the database should work.  I also have lots of memory.  I am working off of my hard drive which is where the .exe is for the company application and my chm file.  I can open my .chm file.  When I go into the application and press F1 where I created the map ID;s I get the message, not enough memory available for this task and also topic not available. Quit one or more programs to increase memory.
I have lots of memory and my file is only 598kb.  I also only have RoboHelp and the application running.  When I did a search, I found an article for a fix from 2004 from Adobe - Rb_46124 - not sure if this is the fix but the steps dont match since it is old.
    Please help me.
    Thanks

    Hi there
Actually, if you were to use FlashHelp output, you might find that the problems are compounded, as now you have the Flash Player and all its idiosyncrasies in the mix.

  • How do I find out if my Mac OS x version 10.6.8 has enough memory space for me to down load Mountain Lion?

How do I find out if my Mac OS x version 10.6.8 has enough memory space for me to down load Mountain Lion?

You need to know 2 things
Ram, you need a minimum of 2GB, but 4GB (or more) is recommended.
HDD, you need a minimum of 20GB of hard disk space (including space for operation)
    So.
Go to Apple>About this Mac and you will be able to see the amount of Ram installed.
Then select your hard drive (in Finder>Sidebar, usually called MacintoshHD) and click cmd-i (Command key and the letter I) look for capacity and available, post the results here.

  • Not enough disk space for asset ecoding

    Hi all,
I have a dvdsp project with:
    a feature: 3.3 gb
    dvd extra: 289
    menu assets: 65mb
and shows that it is 3.8 mb all together, but when i try to build/format it stops the build at the menu and gives the error message: Not enough disk space for asset encoding. I was running a test build when this happened. i have yet to add the audio for the extra thinking i still had some room on here to work with.
I have burned dvd's up 4.5 without any issues. any ideas why this is happening?
    thanks,
    Mark

I'm having the same problem. Except I have tried to switch locations for the Current Build and each time it says Not enough disk space for asset encoding. I have a 500GB raid with almost 400GB free and then another 500GB raid with about 130GB free. I really need help on this pronto!
Another message it now brings up after it starts Encoding Assets: Insufficient disk space for encoding. Please free up disk space on your encoding target drive. Please Help!!

Only 7 apps, unable to download games 1 magazine, 18 pictures, and lots of songs about 1.000plus
    Getting very frustrated.
    Thanks Vickie

An iPhone is just like any computer when the operating system detects that storage is low it prevents any further updating to avoid compromising the installation
You have too much on too smaller iPhone something will have to be deleted to proceed
    Restore as new

  • Main Menu:Not enough disk space for asset encoding

i tried to burn my project first i got an error that in track 1 i've got no assets/videos and i added an asset, then a problem with the story and dragged the same story in both columns.. now i tried to burn again and got this error
Main Menu:Not enough disk space for asset encoding
    Build cancelled
Building was not successful. See log.
any help appreciated. Thanks in advance

Sounds like your hard drive is getting full. You need as much space on your drive as you can get - at least as much as the disc contents, twice. If you are burning a DVD-R at 4.7Gb then allow ten Gb free space before you start.

  • Not enough memory space

    Dear All,
We have a situation where a query made on a cube is used in APD.
The data coming from this query, is aggregated and then sent to a transactional DSO to move it forward to another DSO from where it goes to PCM through informatica.
    Cube -> Query -> Aggregation -> Transactional DSO -> DSO -> PCM
Right now we are facing problem in aggregation. We have 7 million records and when we summarize we use to much off internal table space and get a dump, not enough memeory space.
    Any suggestions
    Regards,
    Jack Silverz

    Hi jack,
I have faced this problem and it has to do with the number of records that a APD can process.
If it runs inot millions it wont be able to aggregate.
I need to find a SAP link to back my point but its a headsup for you.
    Regards,
    Suyash

  • Not enough disk space for app download

Got a message to download X Code update, when I select It says there is not enough disk space. on the drive which has my downloads folder it says I have 2.09GB available is this where the download goes?
    R

Empty the Trash if you haven't already done so. If you use iPhoto, empty its internal Trash first:
    iPhoto ▹ Empty Trash
Then reboot. That will temporarily free up some space.
According to Apple documentation, you need at least 9 GB of available space on the startup volume (as shown in the Finder Info window) for normal operation. You also need enough space left over to allow for growth of your data. There is little or no performance advantage to having more available space than the minimum Apple recommends. Available storage space that you'll never use is wasted space.
To locate large files, you can use Spotlight. That method may not find large folders that contain a lot of small files.
You can more effectively use a tool such as OmniDiskSweeper (ODS) to explore your volume and find out what's taking up the space. You can also delete files with it, but don't do that unless you're sure that you know what you're deleting and that all data is safely backed up. That means you have multiple backups, not just one.
Deleting files inside an iPhoto or Aperture library will corrupt the library. Any changes to a photo library must be made from within the application that created it. The same goes for Mail files.
Proceed further only if the problem isn't solved by the above steps.
ODS can't see the whole filesystem when you run it just by double-clicking; it only sees files that you have permission to read. To see everything, you have to run it as root.
    Back up all data now.
Install ODS in the Applications folder as usual. Quit it if it's running.
Triple-click the line of text below on this page to select it, then copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):sudo /Applications/OmniDiskSweeper.app/Contents/MacOS/OmniDiskSweeper
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The application window will open, eventually showing all files in all folders. It may take some minutes for ODS to list all the files.
I don't recommend that you make a habit of doing this. Don't delete anything while running ODS as root. If something needs to be deleted, make sure you know what it is and how it got there, and then delete it by other, safer, means. When in doubt, leave it alone or ask for guidance.
When you're done with ODS, quit it and also quit Terminal.

  • Not enough disk space for backup to upgrade to iOS5

May I know why do we have to backup again in order to update iOS5? I thought our iPhone usually backup automatically so we don't need to do so. Reason why I'm asking is because my local drive doesn't have enough disk space for my phone backup in order to install iOS5. I'm not sure if I could still get back my stuff - especially my apps, after the upgrade. Any advice please?

i was running windows 8.1 however managed to upgrade by using a 16gb jsb drive, which the upgrade used to put the old version of windows.everything working fine on windows 10. Thank you for the assistance.

  • Reinsstalling Bitlocker enabled Computer - not enough disk space for WinPE while restarting

    Hi together,
i like to implement the possibiliy to reinstall Bitlocker enabled Clients in the field.
The Computers which have to be reinstalled have a C: and D: drive, both encrypted with Bitlocker.
My first try was to format the disk, configure the TPM Settings and then go on with the installation, that worked flawless.
My Second attempt with the goal to prevent the Tasksequence from formatting the disc prior to configure the TPM was not successfull. While configuring the TPM the Computer has to restart several times (Restart option is "The boot image assigned to this
task sequence") which worked when the disks were formatted, but doesn't work without formatting. The error message i get while the computer stores the boot image locally is "error: not enough disk space".
I tried to disable the protector for C: drive with a command line step ("cmd.exe /c manage-bde -protectors -disable C:") prior to configuring TPM, but that results in the exact same error message.
My Question is: Does anyone know why this message is thrown?
If some of you use other solutions for this scenario i'm also interested in an knowledge exchange.
If you ask yourself whyy i don't want to format the disk at first: After making the needed TPM configurations we're running a script which checks several prerequisites for installing, if something goes wrong there we let the task sequeence abort and we don't
want the uuser left with a formatted system in that case.
Thank you for tips and fingerpointing!
    Rolf

    Hi,
    >>I tried to disable the protector for C: drive with a command line step ("cmd.exe /c manage-bde -protectors -disable C:") prior to configuring TPM, but that results in the exact same error message.
Please check the partitions, the access for these partitions, the space left of these partitions after the task sequence runs the command line for disabling the protector.

  • Not enough disk space to install sims 2 from app store?

I've seen lots of threads resolving the problem of there not being enough disk space when installing sims by a CD Disk, but I'm trying to download it from the app store so none of them apply.
I have 12 GB of space free on my macbook and the application only needs 7.52 GB.
    Ideas?
I keep getting 'not enough disk space available'.
I can't open it from the applications folder rather than the Disk because I haven't been allowed to buy/instal it yet.

I have cleared 17 GB of hard disk space and 11 GB of memory space.
The requirements online when installed say 10 GB of hard disk and 4 GB of memory.
I bought my Mac last year so I don't think my system is too old.
    Ideas now?
When I get above 17 GB it instals but at the end of the hour long installation it again tells me it failed to download, not mentioning space .

  • Not Enough Disk Space for Rendering

I am trying to edit a QuickTime file that I exported out of iPhoto, which contains about one hour of a slide show. The QuickTime file is only 741 MB. All I wanted to do is add music and titles using FCP. So I created a new project, imported the QuickTime file into FCP and inserted the entire one hour clip to sequence. When I rendered the sequence, FCP not only indicated it would take 4 hours to render but also said there is no enough disk space available to complete the rendering. I have about 60GB space left in my hard drive. How could the 741MB file take up more than 60GB of disk space for rendering? I haven't even put any video effects or music on the sequence yet. Can anyone tell me what's going on? Can I simply edit the 741MB file without changing the file size?

Why not add the music and titles in iPhoto? The music is easy(just set up an iTunes playlist) If you need title slides just create them in an image editor(you could even use Textedit), save as a jpeg, import to iPhoto and incorporate them into the show.
Thanks for your suggestion, but I'm not interested in using iPhoto to add the music and titles when I can use FCP to easily create better effects.
If you then export the slideshow as a Quicktime movie then you can just pull it into iDVD. But if DVD is the intended end format your QT export needs to be 1024 or 720 x 576(thats for PAL TV) depending on the aspect ratio you're going for. I'd export it as DV.
I've used the iDVD slideshow function before. I was frustrated by the limitation the function offers. I just wanted to simply edit the QuickTime movie I exported from iPhoto using FCP. I don't know why it's so hard and no one can seems to assist me. Any suggestion would be appreciated, though. Thanks.

  • "Not enough free space" for my music. But there is.

Long time iPod/iPhone user here, but first time encountering this.
Until now I've always had iPods with sufficient memory to hold my entire music library, but this time (to save money) I bought the 16GB iPhone 4S and for the first time I'm having to pick and choose what I want to carry around with me. So I created a playlist in iTunes and have selected to only sync that playlist.
But here's an oddity: the capacity bar on the screen in iTunes suggests I can put that playlist on with 1.43GB to spare. But when I try to sync the iPhone it tells me ther's not enough space. See screenshot below.
    Any ideas?
Posted to both iPhone and iTunes forums.

Hmm, changing the drive letter usually works if the ipod is reporting available space incorrectly.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1493
+iTunes and Windows Explorer report the wrong amount of available space on iPod.+
Your music library portion might only have 20GB, but what about podcasts, music, & photos? That could be the other 20GB it is saying it doesn't have room for.
Try syncing selected playlists and get it down to under 40 GB. You're right, you can't ignore it, but you can work around it.
