Not enough memory to save AI as PSD - CS4
Win 7 64 8GB , tried anti-aliased on and off, checking "Use Artboards - all and range 1 (only one artboard) when I zoom out there is a lot of checkered area, this file is set to dv widescreen.
I have only found the one thread on this and have tried all.
I am creating a simple line wiring diagram to be used in a DVD, I was advised to export it to Photoshop to render for better clarity on screen.
Any ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks
Dennis
Thanks for the response Russell, I have tried that and I don't see any difference in the quality of a tiff from AI vs Acbt., there is a noticeable difference exporting from AI to Photoshop then to Premiere.

Not enough memory to save this file
hi ,
im doing a artwork with a size of 210" x 72" and 4 layers in total ( the size is actually half of the actual print size which is 420" by 144" ). But whenever i want to export the ai file to psd , the error prompting ' Not enough memory to save this file ' appears. I've changed my primary scratch disks frm Startup to C:\ ( which is ard 100gb ) but the error still exists. Is there anyone who could help me ? Need to send the works for print next week but i need to export this file to photoshop to do extra effects and changes.theres around 88gb left on my drive and my ai file is juz 1.84mb.
the settings for export is as follows :
Resolution - 72dpi ( as my workfile is being done to a scale of 50% , i used a lower dpi )
Options - Write layers with max editability
Anti-alias unchecked
Embed ICC profile checked -
Not enough memory to save file.
I am getting this message when I try and export an AI file as .psd file. Illustrator is the only app open on a new 24" iMac running 10.5.4. The illustrator file itself is only about 5 mb. Yet . . .I get the message "Not enough memory to save file." Any thoughts, gang?
I know this is an old thread, but anyone trying to export large files out of Illustrator CS5 (maybe even CS6 and CC) still face this "not enough memory" challenge.
To summarize the above comments, this is what worked for me...
1. Using Windows 7 or Windows 8, and Illustrator CS5
2. Close Illustrator (if open)
3. Right click the Illustrator application > Properties > Compatibility (tab)
4. "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" > Windows XP (Service Pack 3)
5. "Run this program as an administrator" (optional, but recommended)
6. Apply (or "OK")
7. Open Illustrator > Open your Illustrator file
8. File > Export > (DO NOT CLICK SAVE YET...)
9. (File Save Dialog Box) > At the bottom of the dialog box, tick to select "Use Artboards" > Range "1"
10. (name your file) > "Save"
11. (Photoshop Export Options) > Select color mode > Select Resolution > Select "Flat Image" > Select "Anti-Alias
12. Click "OK"
Doing everything above allowed me to save a very large Illustrator file as a 300ppi RGB Photoshop file and avoid the "Not enough memory..." problem.
I hope this helps, but as usual: your mileage may vary... Shalom! -
Illustrator CS5 Error - "Not enough memory to save the file"
Hey guys,
I'm experiencing difficulties in exporting website from .AI to .PSD using Illustrator CS5.1 under Windows7 Home Premium 64bit. The error message says "Not enough memory to save the file".
I can assure you that i've got enough memory for scratch disks and my computer is powerful enough to handle this operation. The funny thing is that i am able to export the very same .Ai file using Illustrator CS5.1 under Windows XP 32bit on different PC.
I've tried to find a solution online, but it gave no satisfying results so far. So, i think the problem comes from the operating system, but i don't know how to fix it... any suggestions?
Thanks, Steve.Sad to say I'm running into the same problem with a 40KB file.....
(download the following file and use it)
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/8/8c/2.4_GHz_Wi-Fi_channels_%28802.11b%2Cg_W LAN%29.svg
File -> Open
Modify the file slightly:
doubleclick the image
remove the channel 14 info (the text block "14" & "2.484", the T shaped path, the dotted half circle path)
drag a square around the "Channel", "Center Frequency", "(GHz)" text blocks and hold left shift and press the left arrow until the selected items are tighter to the rest of the image
select the bold base line, grab the right middle point to shrink the line (dragging from right to the left) until 'intersect' shows up, then release
click the top left "Back One Level" arrow 2 times so that you are back to the top level (out of isolation mode)
File -> Export -> Choose PSD
Export Options (all default settings)
Color Model RGB
Medium (150ppi)
Write Layers
Preserve Text Editability
Maximum Editability
Antialias
Click OK.....
POOF! ERROR!

Exporting from Illustrator to Photoshop: Not Enough Memory To Save File
Exporting from Illustrator to Photoshop: Not Enough Memory To Save File
I have plenty of memory (6 GB) and the files I try to export are not very big (some less than 5 MB). Yet, I keep getting the above message: Not Enough Memory To Save File
Any suggestions?
Many thanks!Up-thread, John Joslin mentioned that "memory" is more than RAM. It is RAM, Virtual Memory, Scratch Disk, and is also governed by the allocations for your Adobe programs (in this case).
The first thing that I would explore is the Windows Virtual Memory (Page File) settings. This ARTICLE might give you some tips.
Also, see this ARTICLE on setting up a computer for an editing session. It's geared more towards doing video editing, but applies to PS work too.
Then, go to Edit>Preferences in both PS and AI, and check the allocation of your memory. Too often, people run that up, and then they starve the OS, or any other programs.
Good luck,

"Not enough memory" when exporting DNG to PSD, noise opening it
Hi guys, I'm using LR 4.2 and trying to export to PS CS6 on my Win 7 Asus 4gb laptop with 45gb free space on my hard drive.
I have made substantial edits to a raw file in LR and am attempting to export it to PS for final edits (cloning out extraneous features) at 16cm and 150 ppi (less than ideal but still too large). The working file is 73 mb.
However, I am getting an unsufficient memory error when trying this on Tif or Psd, even Jpg. I can get it to export as original, which gives me a DNG but then I get the same lack of memory issue when trying to open it in Photoshop.
What I can do is open the working DNG file in Photoshop but then only some of my adjustments come through - all the noise removal I have done has gone and the image is very noisy in PS. I can also convert it to Tiff using VSO Image Resizer and open this in PS but again, the noise is there.
The image is to be used as the cover photo on an A4 magazine so needs to be of print-quality.
I'd be grateful if anyone could give me some advice on how to deal with this problem image.
Thanks in advance,
JoYour memory issue isn't addressed here but try this to see if you can get a usable file before your deadline:
Hit CTRL S to make certain your metadata is saved (although it shouldn't matter). Then don't export as Original but rather export as DNG from Lightroom.
Does the image import properly now to PS?
On a side note: regardless of the flie format PSD, TIF, JPEG, the image takes up roughly the same amount of RAM when open in PS. -
Not enough memory to export? CS4
Hi all
I wanted to export a 7 mg ai to a flattened, RGB 300 dpi .psd and got a 'not enough memory to save file' message. If this were an older machine or the .ai file was huge and the assigned scratch disk small I'd agree, but I'm thinking it must have something to do with a .tif file that was placed in the document.
This is the second time I've ever placed art, so bear with any ignorance, please. The original .tif file is 2.5 mgs and then needed to be reduced considerably and to keep the file size down I chose to link it instead of embedding. Bad idea?
Or is there something else that might cause this problem? Thanks for any advice.
EAFirst I will address the misconception of a 7MB being a small file when you want to export to say tiff or psd at only 300 ppi is actually at 8.5 x 11 inches is 64 MB 20x24 is 164 as 8 bit if it is being exported as cmyk add four layers and with content and it gets much larger. So 7MB is not an accurate way of describing what you are exporting better to give the dimensions and number of layers and complexity of the part does it have for instance paths with lots of points does it use a lot of symbols.
Also do you have a scratch disk other than the startup disk, does it have a lot of free space, is it fragmented?
What about your hardware, system and plug ins? -
Opening PSD File - Not Enough Memory
I created a sequence of images from Particle Illusion in a PSD format. When I open one of the images in Photoshop (CS3), it opens - no problem. When I try to open it in Illustrator CS3, I get the message "Not enough memory to place the file".
On Windows XP 64, opening PSD files with Illustrator CS3 does not seem to work.
What you can do to resolve this issue is to save the file as PNG in Photoshop. That can be opened in Illustrator and transprency is preserved.

"Could not complete the Save As command because there is not enough memory (RAM)"
I'm trying to save a file and an error keeps popping up saying ""Could not complete the Save As command because there is not enough memory (RAM)". I'm using Adobe Photoshop CS5 Extended. I have no other windows open. I checked the RAM allocated to Photoshop, in the Preferences > Performance tab, and I have tried it at 60% (980 MB) and 90% (1483 MB), still with no luck. I tried Purging the undo, clipboard and history with no help either.
I read a couple of other posts that were similar to this and people suggested " resetting the preferences as described in the FAQ." but is there any way to do this without closing Photoshop?
I can't loose this file, so any help woudl be appreciated.I'm sorry to hear it locked up on you, and with only a GIF saved (which is probably useless). Perhaps I should have suggested Select All / Copy first.
As far as what went wrong... It might be helpful to know some of the specifics:
What operating system are you running?
Do you see any errors in the Windows error logs corresponding in time to this problem, and if so, what are the specifics?
Do you have Photoshop updated to 12.0.3?
What video card do you have, and do you have updated video drivers?
Is OpenGL enabled in Edit - Preferences - Performance?
What kinds of operations did you do since you started the session of Photoshop that ultimately went bad?
What other applications were you running?
What kind of computer is it (specifically, can you install more RAM)?
It might not be possible to pinpoint just what went wrong, but perhaps we could make some general suggestions that might help.

Could not complete the save command because there is not enough memory (RAM)
Hi There,
As per subject line we are using Photoshop CC on 3 different computers, got one error frequently on all systems "could not complete the save command because there is not enough memory (RAM)".
System Configuration:
2 Systems have Dual Core processor with 4 GB RAM
& 1 System have Core i3 processor with 8 GB RAM
We tried to solve our end but still not resolve.

Hi, I use Windows 7, Photoshop CS5.1 often pops up with "Could not complete [command] because there is not enough memory (RAM)." I have increased my performance preferences to (1451mb) 90%, however I have not restarted Photoshop as I want to try and save the work I have been doing today. I would greatly appreciate any experience in this area and advice as how to work around this problem.
Good day!
You could try to free up resources by closing all non-essential documents and invoking Edit > Purge > All.

Message "Could not save because there is not enough memory (RAM)"
Running Mac OS9.2.2 Suddenly start to get and error message " An error occured saving the enclosure "file name" Not enough memory" when trying to save an attachment in Microsoft Outlook. Same thing with Adobe Photoshop - when trying to save an any new file - message "Could not save because there is not enough memory (RAM)".
Already Tried:
During several freezes, suddenly my mac stop recognize any extensions. When used Microsoft Outlook and tried download an attachment got an error message type 3. So I create a new set in extensions manager and get ride of Type 3 error, but get a new error message "Not enough memory" when try to save an attachment, or "Not enough RAM" - when try to save an EPS file in Adobe Photoshop.
In Outlook ("Get Info" section)changed memory size:
Suggested Size: 7168 K
Minimum Size: 16000 K
Preferred Size: 16000 K
In all mailboxes - there are not that many messages and they are not heavy at all, I checked them all before. And I rebuilt/compressed Outlook database - holding Option while restarted Outlook...
Adobe Photoshop - started acting weird at same time. Even if I want to open a file through the menu: File - Open - it gives me the same message.
Who has any clue - please help!!!Hi, Mike -
I have Outlook Express's Preferred memory allocation set to 45000K, and don't have any problems with attachments. Don't be afraid of increasing OE's Preferred memory allocation (nor IE's, either - I have that set to 65000K).
How large is the Messages file used by the account you're using in Outlook? You can examine that file here - (hard drive) >> Documents >> Microsoft User Data >> Identities >> (account folder, either the default "Main Identity" or one you've created) >> Messages.
It seems that the Messages file grows with each email received; but does not shrink when an email is deleted. Over time, especially when lots of attachments are involved, that file can get huge.
One way to help it not get too big is to -
• delete attachments after copying them to the desktop. In case you're not familiar with the easy way to copy an attachment to the desktop - select the email so it opens; click the small triangle next to the legend "Attachments" between the upper pane and the lower pane in Outlook's main window; drag the attachment from the list out onto the desktop. It will be extracted and copied to that location. Once that has been done you can delete the attachment from the email with which it arrived.
• after purging your emails of unneeded emails and attachments, compact the file. To do that, quit Outlook if it is running. Then hold down the Option key and start up Outlook. A splash screen will appear asking if you want to compact its database files - click yes. Follow the prompts.
Compacting OE's database can also fix some instances of a damaged database that can't be used.
If you could answer a few more questins, perhaps we can offer additional suggestions -
1) How much RAM do you have installed? That means the physical RAM, not counting Virtual Memory in use, if any.
2) How full is your hard drive - how big is it, how much free space is left unused?
3) When was the last time you rebuilt the desktop file? -

Hello, peppertwist.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
When receiving the not enough space alert, he is the best article to go through.

Save for web--not enough memory
On a dual g5, 6gb ram I've tried to save for web an animated gif that is 960x681 pixels and 612 frames (about 10 layers with 20 tweens in between each).
It optimizes none to quickly and then 15 minutes later I get a not enough memory dialogue. Is there a way to avoid this?
alanWell if you want to do this then probably the best way would either be After Effects which exports animated gifs.
I was under the impression that PS could only do a 500 frame animation. Or maybe that is a movie clip.
If After Effects is too much for you then the other alternative in the Adobe Suites would be Fireworks.
I would think Fireworks would be best. As it is design to optimized for the web much more so than PS. Watch the tutorial on animation and it is not difficult at all.
