Not enough space for TM backup

I recently had to replace my hard drive and installed the operating system and successfully restored to my TM backup. Now when I want to get back on the program so to speak, it tells me I don't have enough space to do it. If I used the backup that is what's on my computer, why won't it recognize it and just continue backing up like it was. Do I have to reformat and backup again?

Gary Ledet wrote:
No, actually my hard drive went bad and I sent to Apple Care since it was covered. When I got it back it was loaded with the Leopard OS with updates already installed. I then used TM to restore to my original system configuration
how exactly did you do that? did you use the restore utility on the install DVD?

  • Macintosh HD not enough space for time machine backup?

I have a 128GB Macbook Air. When I first got it, I made a Time Machine backup of the system, but now when I go into the recovery and choose to restore from backup, it says the Macintosh HD only has 112 GB and that it's not enough space for some reason. Why would it have me do a backup that I can't Restore? I need to restore the backup.

  • WhatsApp claims I have no storage on my phone to restore a backup while I have more than enough space for the backup size required. What do I do?

    Hello community,
I used to have storage problems on my phone, and chose to delete WhatsApp since it consumed nearly a whole gigabyte on my phone. I thought that through deleting it and reinstalling, it would get rid of the overload of data and start fresh. However, once I got to the page to restore from a back-up of my messages, I didn't have enough space on my phone. So I did further research into how to free up some space (turned out I had a lot of deleted photos hiding in my phone which should've been totally gone) and managed to get nearly 500 MB free. So I went back to my WhatsApp app, and tried to restore the back-up since it says the size of the back-up is 360 MB. However, it still gives the following error message that it had given me before:
"Sorry, there isn't enough room on you iPhone to restore from your iCloud backup. Make room by deleting existing videos or photos and try again."
I didn't (and still don't) understand why it says there is no room on my phone even though I had about 450 MB free. I have tried switching my phone off and then back on. Still, I get the same message. I have also tried deleting WhatsApp again and re-installing it but still I get the same message, still when I have enough room on my phone. By now, I have already consumed my storage on other apps so I don't have much space left anyway, making the error message reasonable.
I would really appreciate if anyone could just throw me some possible solutions that could solve the problem of WhatsApp not recognizing that I've got enough space for it on my iPhone to restore all my messages. I would like them back because I have some important and nice message threads I would love to have retrieved. Remember, I have already tried switching my phone off and back on and also deleting WhatsApp when I had sufficient storage. Currently I don't have enough storage, which makes sense for the error message to appear, but if anyone gives me a possible solution I will make way for enough storage and try the solution.
Also a weird thing is that at first, I still got notifications of messages people sent me through private chat (so not group chat). I don't know what it exactly means, but hopefully that helps with finding a solution.
If you think that I might as well post this question on a WhatsApp forum, please tell me, because it does indeed seem like it lies on the app and not my phone.
Thank you all anyway for reading and wanting to help.

  • Nokia 100 (not enough space for new messages)

    Hi!
From time to time i get messages that there is a text message that wants to come through but that there is not enough space. I then delete some inbox messages and then within minutes i get the text. However, recently it has taken much more time for the text to come in after deleting old messages.
And why do i all of the sudden get a message that there is not enough space, then i delete some old messages, and NOTHING comes through? Why am i getting this so-called false alarm from time to time now?
I really hope someone can help me with this problem!
    Thank you!

    Hi Friend,
Much probably that "others" data is taking the most of usage space.
So start to solve this issue deleting text messages.
If the issue persists, connect your iPad with iTunes and check how much space "others" data is taking. try to reset your device by backup in iTunes.
If still not working, I advice you to search ib other foruns. There are many pleople that faced this problem and successfully solve it
    Hope it helps

  • Not Enough Space for Restore?

    Hello
I wish to help me iPhone 5 64G stolen
    now I bought the iPhone5C 16G
If i restore from last backup
Not Enough Space on iPhone to Restore Backup!!!
sms and contcts  and photos only i needd
I do not care apps anthor thing ..
    so what is the solution

You'll need to extract your contacts/photos from your backup, using something like this:
    http://www.iphonebackupextractor.com/
You can then sync that stuff to your phone. For SMS's, while you can extract them from your backup, there's no way to get them on your phone.

  • I cannot sync my iphone 4S message not enough space for itunes-how do I fix this

How do I fix a sync problem for iphone 4s- not enough free space to hold all items in itunes?

Assuming there is actually enough space try this:
    BACKUP to computer
    Restoring to factory settings
    Restore from backup
    Sorted.
That fixed mine. I have a sneaking suspicion it has something to do with pulling out from USB without ejecting for itunes/USB bus. Just like on any USB drive, open files will leave a mark behind if not closed properly. Honestly I have no idea why it does it.

  • Not enough space for Time Machine on new disk

So my old 256 GB hard drive crashed and I bought a smaller SSD with just 128 GB. When I try to restore my Time Machine backup, obviously, it says that there is not enough space and won’t do anything. Is there any way to do a partial restore?

Well, hence my question whether a PARTIAL restore is possible.
What do you want to restore with the 'partial' restore.

  • PSE 11: not enough space for backup?

On PSE 11 i backuped three times the catalog without an error.
Now i became the message, that there is not enough free space.
But the free space on the target drive is 399GB and the catalog size ist about 80GB.
I have repaired and optimized the catalog in PSE without a result.
    Where is the problem?

    Hi,
Yes you are correct about only images in the catalog being backed up. In my case, the two are the same as I rarely deleted from the catalog and not the disk.
I also use ccleaner as I find that PSE leaves a lot of junk in the Temp folder sometimes, particularly when using the Save Metadata to Files function.
There seems to be enough room on your target disk and you said that the backup worked with the same amount of free space on your system disk that you have now. The only other thing that I can think of is do you now have any other applications running in the background. I'm wondering if there might be a problem with the swap file. I have known system crashes to cause loss of disk space but that should be recovered by disk check when it next loads.
Normally with a system disk, I might try doing a defrag so that the free space is consolidated into contiguous blocks but a SSD probably doesn't need that. How big is your SSD?

  • My family all use my iCloud account to backup their phones, meaning there is not enough space for me. How can we have seperate accounts without the risk of any of us having data/photos erased or lost?

Hi. We have 4 iPads and 3 iPhones in our household. I have my own apple ID which my whole family use. This was fine until IOS6 came out, and I found I wasn't able to back up my phone because the rest of my family have used all my iCloud storage! We've now decided we all want seperate IDs and seperate iCloud accounts, but we're worried if we delete iCloud from any of the devices that it will also delete our apps, pictures, data etc. Can someone guide me along the right path here?
    Thanks
    Carly

Yes....On each device, go under "Settings....iCloud" and DELETE ACCOUNT.  This doesn't do anything to the data itself...it just "disconnects" that device from that particular account.  Then each person/device can set up their own iCloud account for storage, backup, etc.  As was mentioned above, everyone can maintain the same Apple ID for App Store to share music purchases and such, but make sure the different iCloud accounts exist when you go to restore something or you'll have someone else's stuff or a big mix of everybody's.  Don't ask me how I know this.

  • Not enough space for updates

I don't have enough space on the hard drive to install updates.  I need to move my itunes to My passport for Mac but am not sure how to do it and don't want to lose the music I have copied from my CDs.  Is there a simple solution?

You need ideally 2 archives of your valuable data. Meaning 2 HD, one as a Time Machine backup and a separate (or more) HD to archive your important data.
Grab a 1TB Toshiba or Seagate HD for $65 and drag and drop all your important files onto them and clear up space off your Macbook Air.
In the case of a Macbook Air or Macbook Pro Retina with ‘limited’ storage on the SSD, this distinction becomes more important in that in an ever rapidly increasing file-size world, you keep vital large media files, pics, video, PDF collections, music off your SSD and archived on external storage, for sake of the necessary room for your system to have free space to operate, store future applications and general workspace.  You should never be put in the position of considering “deleting things” on your macbook SSD in order to ‘make space’.
As for your passport WD drive, open it up on your desktop and drag your MP3 music files to same.

  • Not enough space to restore backup after upgrade

    Hi,
Just upgraded a phone (4/4s) from 4.3.3 to 7.1.2 but I can't restore from iTunes Backup when going through the "set up iPhone" process.
Its telling me there isn't enough space on the iphone.
There is 3.27 GB free on the phone. I can't get into Setting on the phone at the moment because its in set-up mode.
To free up space - is it ok if I delete photo's from the phone via windows explorer ? If I restore from backup - will the photo's I have deleted be restored again ?
I have backup of the photo's
    Thanks in advance,
    Mary

Difficult question... I think you will have to set up your iPhone as a new iPhone. If your backup is too large for the iPhone, you won't be able to restore it.
I have a couple of questions for you:
    - Which iPhone do you have, the 4 or the 4s (the 4 has a stripe next to the headphone minijack, the 4s not)?
    - How much gigabites storage has your iPhone?

  • "Not enough space for photos" alert when there is enough space

    Hello,
I have a 2nd Gen iPod nano with 4GB, it's about 1.5 years old and till now I could always solve any problems I've had with it, but now it seems my problem hasn't occurred to anyone else ever...
Putting photos on my iPod has worked fine since I did it for the first time a year ago, but I took all photos off again pretty soon. Now I tried to put some on the iPod again, but it won't work. I get the following pop up alert:
"No photos were copied to the iPod because there is not enough free space on the iPod to hold your photos and albums."
I've cleared more and more space until I had 20 MB free. The photos I tried to sync had a size of about 380 KB all together. And still iTunes pretends there wasn't enough space. In the Features Guide it said that only so much space is necessary as the photos themselves will use up. Why won't iTunes sync the selected folder?
Anyone else has had and solved this problem? Please help.
    Thanks a lot
    Danja

I've seen this issue before, and it appears to be a quirk on the iPod software.
That 20MB you cleared is still not enough to sync your photos even though the photos use up less space than that.
You need to clear even more space on your iPod before you can sync these photos. Try clearing small amounts at a time until the photos sync.
I've never seen a plausible explanation why the nano behaves this way.

  • Not enough space for Win XP service pack 3

I am working on an install of Win. XP Pro SP2 for the principal of our middle school. I first got Leopard all updated, installed 3rd party software, completed updates to all and then ran Boot Camp assistant. Thinking that 5 gig would not be nearly enough space I made the Windows partition 25 gigs. I completed with the XP install and started the updates process. Shortly thereafter a message popped up that stated the partition was 4 gigs too small for installation of Service Pack 3 and I had to back out of the updates process. What are my options at this point? Can the windows partition be increased without having to start over with the windows install?

  • ICloud - error message 'not enough space' for a 380mb document - I've got 25G? How to share from my Mac?

I get the message 'Your document couldn’t be published because there isn't enough space', when I try to upload this Pages document from my Mac. First, you wait while it converts it to .pdf, then to Word, then you get this message. I've got 25G storage space. What's it being used for? And more importantly, how do I store this doc on iCloud so I can use it? PS, I'm running Lion, and IOS5, all brand-squeaking updated.
