  • Not enough space on disk to restore a backup

    Hello,
I must restore my iPhone from the backup that I have on my Windows7. It has 21gb, when I start to restore it, It requires 21gb of free space as well. I have only 13 left. Is there any solution? I cant free up more space on C:, I already cleared bin etc.

Ok, thanks. Is it possible to restore the backup from a different computer with enough space available ?

  • Not enough space on disk to restore !

    can anyone help me ?
I had some troubles with my mac so I made an image for the HD and every thing went fine and now when I want to restore it ,it says
Not enough space on /dev/disk0s2 to restore what should I do !!?

I may be too late now (but for sake of knowing the next time):
Before you make an image, re-size the source partition to a size smaller than the new (future) destination.
       - click on the source partition,
       - go to the Partition tab at the top,
       - then grab the handle in the lower right of the Partition Layout graph and drag it upwards.
The size of the partition will change, but the partition won't be erased.
    - BE PATIENT - this can be as slow as defragmenting the drive! [guess]
            * Your computer will go into Sleep Mode every 10 mintues. Hit a modifier key - (SHIFT, CMD, CNTRL) -
every 8 or 9 minutes to keep the computer from going into sleep mode.
            * Use your mouse to place the curser (every so often) in the progress bar to mark your progress.
    Then make a new Image.
           * Remember to "Scan Image for Restore" (in the Image menu) before proceeding.
If its too late because the original partition is gone, try temporarily restoring your image to an external (as large or larger) drive. [CAUTION! Everything on that external drive will be replaced!!]
Then re-size and create a new image - to be restored on your intended destination.
(Give this image a new name just in case)
IF YOU GET THE "Could not restore - resource busy" error:
       - First drage the destination partition (not the drive) into the destination field
       - THEN select the source image.

  • Volume erase failed: Media kit reports not enough space on device

I was having problems with the external drive where I store my Time Machine backups, so I tried plugging and unplugging the drive (per earlier advice, and something that had worked in the past), but could not mount the drive. I ran Disk Utility and tried to verify the disk, which told me the disk needed to be repaired. I tried to repair the disk only to get an error message that Disk Utility could not repair the disk and it needed to be reformatted. So I tried to erase the disk with Disk Utility only to get the error message "Volume erase failed: Media kit reports not enough space on this device for requested operation". I am not sure what else to try at this point and could not find any similar questions here.
The drive in question is a 3TB USB Seagate Backup + Desk Media, formatted as Mac OS Extended (Journaled). It's divided into two partitions, one of which (2.2 TB) holds only Time Machine backups of my desktop and laptop and the other of which (800GB) is formatted similarly with some files stored on it. I was able to verify and repair this other partition. I'm running Disk Utility 13 on an iMac (2.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo) running OSX 10.8.5
Any suggestions for what to try next would be appreciated.

Just to let you know I appear to have the *exact* same problem, even down to the 3TB hard-drive in question.
I read recently that a time machine backup should have its own physical hard disk, not a separate partition on an otherwise-used disk. I wish I'd known that in advance of buying the external drive, as I would not have invested in a 3TB one if I had known I could only use it for Time Machine alone.
Dianeoforegon does make a fair point, though, in saying that all backups in one place is asking for problems down the line.
Incidentally, this Time Machine problem first started occurring when I upgraded to Mavericks. 9 times out of 10 my Time Machine partition would go corrupt for no reason. This definitely hadn't been happening at all before Mavericks. That same upgrade also killed off my entire Boot Camp partition, which caused me major headaches and I eventually had to simply reformat that partition and start again.

  • Updated iPod to iso 6.0 and memory now takes up too much space to do a restore from backup ?

I just updated to iso 6.0 and my iPods usage now has 3.2 GB of space used by "other" and I have none of my apps on it or music ect.  But it won't allow me to put my stuff back on the iPod because when I try to restore from backup it says I don't have enough space. I don't have contacts or anything on my iPod so what's other and how do I get rid of it.  I jus want my iPod how it was cause its useless now cause I have nothing on it and I can't put my apps and music back on it?

An "other" that large usually indicates that the "other" included corrupted files.  Usually restoring from backup eliminated the corrupted files. However, sometimes restoring to factory settings/new iPod is required.
    To restore from backup see:

To restore to factory settings/new iPod see:

  • Do I set up my iphone 4s as new device or restore from backup?

I have an Iphone 4 (OS 4) - upgrading to Iphone 4s (OS 5) - then I begin the set up of Iphone 4s, so I say set up as a new device or restore from a backup?
I have already backed-up and synced my Iphone 4 to Itunes (not to cloud because I didn't upgrade the old phone to OS 5).  I am scared to death to try this and when they give that choice I am not sure which to pick..any help would be greatly appreciated.

I would suggest restore from a backup if you have the backup available.  This way settings and other items will be restored once the process is complete.
    I hope this helps!

  • HT201269 What happens when the old device's Restore From Backup doesn't appear as a choice for the new (iPad) device?

My wife dropped her iPad and fried the screen. It was still functional, so I backed it up with iTunes. The backup was successful for all apps, photos, etc.  I just swapped that iPad at the Apple Store for a refurbished model and attempted to Restore From Backup.  iTunes now doesn't see that old iPad so I can't restore the old data on the new device. Any help appreciated.

Here's an interesting bit: iTunes will let me restore my iPod touch from backup: it's still running iOS 4.3.3. I figured as much... there's backups showing in the Preferences -> Devices list for both devices (and even my old, long gone iPod touch 2G), but my iPhone (on iOS5) isn't giving me any such option. I remember I had to downgrade before to get the backup restored (something went haywire in the setup assistant, and I couldn't restore a backup from iTunes there)... If it was possible to go to iOS 5.0 rather than 5.0.1 I would just do the same thing again, but iOS 5.0.1 isn't an option. I attached a screenshot. Hopefully Apple can get this nonsense sorted out; I think iOS 5 might be the root of this, somehow.

  • Not enough space on device error when creating new diskimage on HD, but 173 gb free

when trying to create a new protected diskimage on HD, i receive an error message "not enough free space on device" eventhough i have 173 GB of unused space

Most likely the error refers to your disc image not having sufficient space allocated to it or you are trying to create a disc image whose size exceeds 173 GBs or whose size request is greater than the largest contiguous amount of space on the drive.  This can happen if the drive is highly fragmented.

  • Suddenly there is not enough space on my 1TB Time Machine Backup HDD allthough my MAC HDD ist with 0,5TB only half full! Time Machine wants 2 TB space.

My Backup HDD for Time Machine has 1TB, same as my MAC-HDD. The Mac HDD is only .5TB full. But suddenly Time Machine wants 2 TB of space for the backup, allthough I have erased all earlier backups and the HDD is empty. I've activated file vault, but some time ago, so I don't think that's the reason.
I also excluded Windows 7 on Parallels.
    What happened???
    I'd appreciate some help.

What version of OSX are you on?
It sounds like you may have a directory problem on your internal HD.  Verify it, per #6 in Using Disk Utility.
Just to be sure the TM drive is really empty, erase it, per #1 there.

  • Not Enough Space for Restore?

    Hello
I wish to help me iPhone 5 64G stolen
    now I bought the iPhone5C 16G
If i restore from last backup
Not Enough Space on iPhone to Restore Backup!!!
sms and contcts  and photos only i needd
I do not care apps anthor thing ..
    so what is the solution

You'll need to extract your contacts/photos from your backup, using something like this:
    http://www.iphonebackupextractor.com/
You can then sync that stuff to your phone. For SMS's, while you can extract them from your backup, there's no way to get them on your phone.

  • Not enough space on nss-volume

    Hello,

    nss-volume
Some of our users (Windows 7 + NC Client) report that they want to copy some files to their nss-share, it says not enough space.
The same when we wanted to copy files from the linux-console (cp) -> not enough space on device.
We definitely have enough space on the volume and there are also no quotas set.
    Can anyone help?
    thx,

Some users? So others can write to that volume?
If not, have you maybe set a volume space restriction in nssmu on the properties of the volume? & what's the output of the console command 'df -h' and 'nsscon /spaceinfo'?

I just installed the Solaris 8 media kit. When it came to installing the additional Software I received an error that there was not enough space on / to do the install.
In the install I chose the default partitioning.
    I have a 6.4GB drive in there.
I managed to get some packeages on there but not all the ones I wanted. Here is my drive setup.

    OK.
    Try this:
    conf t
    service compress-config
    And see if that helps.
If not, see if you can tftp the running config off the router and TFTP it back to startup-config:
    copy run tftp
    copy tftp start
Then you can try a reload and see if it is cured.
I googled and found a few cases where alot of ACLs or NAT rules could cause MALOC errors (you would see those in your logs) when implemented and could manifest itself in this condition, which could be cured after the next reload, which is why I suggested that.
Of course, dont be remote when you do this and only do it during a maintenance window.

  • My iPhone's "Other" capacity has suddenly jumped to 56G out of 64G. Yes, you read that right. Every time I try to sync to recalculate, it gets worse! Please help! Can't even restore from backup now, since my backup is all "other"!

I have fully up-to-date everything on my iPhone and computer and iTunes. I have an iPhone5 and MacBook Pro. I synced my iPhone this morning and it has 12 or so gigs of free space (even with my music and some photos on it). Then I deleted some voice memos in iTunes, and wanted to sync again to reclaim the space. When I tried, it said I had 29G of "other" data and that my phone was way over capacity and can't sync. I tried a few online solutions to force it to recalculate, but now it says it is about 90% "other"!! Only 8G of 64G free, and "other" is the ONLY thing in the summary bar.
I un-checked music for syncing, thinking that must be the problem. It did not help.  Now there is nothing on my phone except "other", according to iTunes (not even photos).
I cannot restore from backup now, since the backup includes the giant "other". I don't want to delete my info on my phone knowing a corrupted backup is my only alternative.
    Help!

Thanks so much Meg. Unfortunately, iTunes is the program I use to perform syncing. I don't really have other outside options. It is also the location of the backup I would use to restore my phone, and my only way to reclaim important data. I am concerned that, since the last backup occurred when the "other" bar was only moderately huge (around 29G I think), that a backup would replicate the problem back onto my phone.
My contacts, etc. are all in address book and the calendar app on my Mac.  As far as I know, iTunes is the way to get them back, but iTunes is where the problem is.
    Any thoughts on this?

  • TS3992 Do I have to restore from backup before I upgrade

I backed up my iphone for the 1st time in the cloud in order to do a software upgrade and save what I have, however I do not know if I have to restore from
backup and have tried to do so but can't figure it out or maybe I don't have to do so.  I am new to iphone.
    Gerrie

To take the matter a little further while it's not required to backup it's foolish not to if you have information on your computer that you care about such as photos, music, financial records, personal information etc. MacWorld magazine from time to time runs articles on backup strategies. The easiest method is using Time Machine, here is a brief Time Machine Tutorial tutorial. Many others (including myself) will create a bootable clone which is an exact duplicate of the internal HD created on an external HD using software such as SuperDuper or Carbon Copy Cloner as Dave mentioned. And other use redundant backups using different tools such as TM and a bootable clone. The reason why is backups can fail too.
I would recommend taking a little time and reading at least one of these MacWorld articles, they'll give you some ideas for backup strategies and I think you will see a common thread, that being redundant backups are wise.
