Not enough space on HD to install Leopard

My Leopard install hung up on the blue screen of death. I repaired the disk using Disk Utility, but now don't have enough space on the HD to archive and install. I have backup copies of iPhoto and Documents, so could erase those files on the HD, but can't get past the Leopard install screens. Is there any way I can use the Utility function(s) to erase the unneeded files and free up space to complete the install?

I would cut out some of the printing drivers from the Leopard Install. If you don;t have Xerox or Epson printers, cut them out...they are large. This would be in the custom install of Leopard.

  • I have 'not enough space' cursed Pages; even though I have plenty of room it refuses to let me download and install it.

Common problem, except all trouble shooting leads to the suicide of the question asker because it yields only claims that no matter what you say, you need to make MORE space. It's a 30 meg file, I have 500 meg free. I have deleted and redownloaded and rebooted about thirty times, in various combinations.
Previously I have cursed many apps this way, always free apps, so I just accepted they were 'dead' to my phone, even after iOS updates and ever since the iPhone 3 this problem has existed (ie: if you didn't have enough space when you START downloading the first time, kiss that app goodbye for life, it just WILL NOT download EVER.) and will either sit at 'Waiting' for a while then claim there's not enough space, or just sit at 'Waiting' indefinitely and progress no further.
The only thing I haven't tried is formatting the entire thing as a fresh phone and retrying, but that's pretty extreme. Has Apple acknowledged this bugs existance yet? Every support thread I see gets replies of "Make more space." no matter what the asker states and eventually the guy just stops coming back and asking, so they're all pretty much unresolved.
Just for the record, I have extensive experience with technology, and am not mentally disabled, so please feel free to talk to me at the level at which your inner voice talks to you, I assure you I will get it. So, can has halp plz? 8(
(PS: I cannot update to the lates iOS 7 as I do not have the insane size required for it to decompress and install, etc, and to do so would require deleting things I cannot lose or having to back it all up manually because there's no convenient way to do it otherwise. Although I can assure you that this problem has been present since the iPhone 3 first came out which was my first iPhone and has been present in every iOS update since, so I have no reason to believe out of the dozens of updates that iOS 7 has addressed this.)

When you don't have enough storage to perform an operation, then you don't have enough storage.  have you got the 16GB iphone?

  • Not enough space to install Mavericks-how do I free up space and continue the install? Help!

I tried to install Mavericks but shortly after the installation initialized I got a message saying that I didn't have enough space to complete the install.  It asked to free up just under 1 MB of space...but I cannot get access to my hard drive.  When the computer turns on, it loads the OS X utilities screen with the following options
    1 Windows
    2 OS X INstaller
    3 Recovery
So, I cannot access the MAC HD to free up space or complete the install.  I am stressing that I am going to lose all of my data on my hard drive! Please help!
P.S We have boot camp and that works fine but cannot gain access to the MAC drive.

OPTION boot to select your OS X partition:
    Boot Using OPTION key:
      1. Restart the computer.
      2. Immediately after the chime press and hold down the
          "OPTION" key.
      3. Release the key when the boot manager appears.
      4. Select the desired disk icon from which you want to boot.
      5. Click on the arrow button below the icon.
If you have no OS X volume showing, then you are in deep doo-doo. You will need to erase the OS X volume and reinstall OS X. This would be done from the Recovery HD which you said was an available boot option.
Install or Reinstall Mavericks or Mountain Lion from Scratch
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
OS X Mavericks- Erase and reinstall OS X
OS X Mountain Lion- Erase and reinstall OS X
OS X Lion- Erase and reinstall Mac OS X
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • Unable to install because not enough space to extra on C-Drive... But I don't want it to extract there.

    Hi,
Apparently I'm Unable to install Photoshop CC because not enough space to extra on C-Drive... But I don't want it to extract there. I've already gone into "Preferences" and switched both folder locations (CC Files and App Files) into my D Drive which has plenty of space, but I get an error that there is not enough space on the C Drive. Duh, I know that, which is why I want to install it on another drive.
What are some steps I can take to fix this?

  • Not enough space error on ipad since installing itunes 11

    hi
i installed the new version of iTunes (V11) tonight but since then have been unable to sync new video files to my ipad.
The ipad has 8.61 GB free and I'm trying to add 8 x 235mb files to the device but each time it gets to Step 5 (determining tracks to sync) and freezes for a while before I get the error message that it cannot be synched as there's not enough space on the device to hold all the items in the itunes library which requires another 14.59 GB.
I've not got any music on the ipad and the status bar on the summary screen is telling me I've loads of free space. Could this related to the new itunes installed today?
    thanks

Computers will read a 2GB iPod Nano as having approximately 1.8 GB. (This is because hard drive manufacturers measure gigabytes in a decimal system, and computer OS's, Mac and Windows alike, read gigabytes in a binary system). You'll want to make sure your playlist is definitely smaller than this. If it is, and you still think you're having a problem, you can try restoring the iPod:

You might also want to try changing the iPod's drive letter:

You need to discard or save to an external disk and then discard some of the stuff we all tend to keep forever (movies, music, pictures, docs, apps no longer used, etc.). A clogged up disk also does not function ideally either.

It seems that the common files have to be installed to the C drive, no matter which drive you choose to install the software:

  • Lion install fail - "not enough space" - I have over 90g...?

Tried installing Lion from the app store on my Core 2 Duo iMac 2.4/1GB/250GB. Message says there is not enough space even though I have over 90gb on the hard drive. I repaired permissions, ran software update to make sure I was on the latest version of Snow Leapard...what gives? Any ideas?

2.4/1GB/250GB - There's your problem. Lion requires 2GB ram, minimum.

    Hello,
I want to install the xilinx webkit which is about 10G in download size only. I have not enough space on my root partition and would like to install this on my /home partition. Is this possible?

  • Trying to install ios on iPhone 4 but not enough space on c: drive on XP PC?

but itunes tells me i`ve not enough space on c:drive on XP PC? can I move the cache file/temp file to another drive where it has more free space??
If it only gave me the option where to back it up to and download the software to, I could point it to somewhere with loads of free gigs. ARGH can anyone help?

I would recommend deleting contents off your hard-drive to make space (how much is left..you should be having 15% free as a general practice) and backing up the phone prior to upgrading.

  • Supposedly there's not enough space

My iPod wont let me download apps because "there's not enough space" but there is

To download and install an app the iPod needs storage available equal to about three times the file download size.
If you sync from your iTunes library less storage available is required.
    Does the app/iPod meet this?

You need the System DVDs that originally came w/the computer in order to troubleshoot.  All Macs prior to & including ML came w/System DVDs.
You can get replacement System Install & Restore CD/DVDs from Apple's Customer Support - in the US, (800) 767-2775 - for a nominal S&H fee. You'll need to have the model and/or serial number of your Mac available.
If you're not in the US, you may need to go through the regional Apple Store that serves your location to find the contact number. Here's a list of links to all of those - http://store.apple.com/Catalog/US/Images/intlstoreroutingpage.html  Another resource:  International Support Phone #s.

    Dear,
As suggested, i have checked for the JVM configuration for low heap size but i found the value of MaxPermSize to be 256M. So, i guess this is not causing the "Not Enough Space" issue.
Please let me know where else do I need to check as i completely clueless about this problem.
    Thanks for your inputs.

  • Need to upgrade OS, but not enough space on HD

I just exported a ton of photos to an external hard drive, thinking that was the bulk of my files taking up space on my hard drive.  I need to upgrade to OS 10.6.3 (I have 10.5.8 right now), but when I try and install, it says there's not enough space.
When I click on my hard drive, it says that there's a capacity of 74.21 GB with an available space of 3.28 GB.  How do I find out what files or applications are taking up the most space?  What are the most likely offenders?  I really thought cleaning up photos was going to fix the issue, but it didn't go up in free space at all!
    Thank you for your help!

Download and use OmniDiskSweeper. It will tell you the files and folders that are using the most space.
With only 3 GB of free space, your system is severely short of free space. Your free space should be at least 10 GB.
Once you increase your free space and before you do any upgrade be sure to repair your disk. With the free space run so low there is every chances that the disk is now corrupt. Doing an upgrade with a corrupt disk is a sure way to have problems after the upgrade.
Also it is necessary to backup before you do the upgrade.
