Not enough space on output media

I am trying to burn a DVD-R disc. I have 110 minutes of video at a bit rate of 4.5, max 7.0. The video was encoded from Final Cut Pro to mpeg-2 and the audio as aif. I have gone through the formulas in the help guide but I keep getting an error message that there is not enough space on output media.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
thanks in advance,
Cece

As Kelly points out, uncompressed aiff audio takes up an enormous amount of space.
Encode in a.pack to two channel stereo, 192 kbps, -31, no film compression.
Also having a maximum bit rate that high for nearly two hours of video is iffy,
You might want to drop it back

  • Not Enough Space on Output Media Issue

Hi guys, we are having a problem with a DVD we put together in FCP, compressed via compressor and are trying to burn in DVDSP. The program is under 2 hours and the 120minute mpeg2 setting was used. The audio was converted to ac3 as well. The file sizes for the two files are 2.88gigs and 990megs respectively. When brought into DVDSP4, the space meter(which we all know is horrible accurate) reads properly as around 3.6 gigs. But when trying to burn to a DVD-5 disc it says there is not enough space on the output media.
Any ideas why this is happening? Thanks!

not sure why DVDSP would give you this trouble. You might need to import to a new project to reset the disc meter. Try just doign the build and see if the size of the video_ts folder is correct.
If not, check to make sure you are not burning to a CD instead of a DVD, stranger things have happened.

  • Volume erase failed: Media kit reports not enough space on device

I was having problems with the external drive where I store my Time Machine backups, so I tried plugging and unplugging the drive (per earlier advice, and something that had worked in the past), but could not mount the drive. I ran Disk Utility and tried to verify the disk, which told me the disk needed to be repaired. I tried to repair the disk only to get an error message that Disk Utility could not repair the disk and it needed to be reformatted. So I tried to erase the disk with Disk Utility only to get the error message "Volume erase failed: Media kit reports not enough space on this device for requested operation". I am not sure what else to try at this point and could not find any similar questions here.
The drive in question is a 3TB USB Seagate Backup + Desk Media, formatted as Mac OS Extended (Journaled). It's divided into two partitions, one of which (2.2 TB) holds only Time Machine backups of my desktop and laptop and the other of which (800GB) is formatted similarly with some files stored on it. I was able to verify and repair this other partition. I'm running Disk Utility 13 on an iMac (2.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo) running OSX 10.8.5
Any suggestions for what to try next would be appreciated.

Just to let you know I appear to have the *exact* same problem, even down to the 3TB hard-drive in question.
I read recently that a time machine backup should have its own physical hard disk, not a separate partition on an otherwise-used disk. I wish I'd known that in advance of buying the external drive, as I would not have invested in a 3TB one if I had known I could only use it for Time Machine alone.
Dianeoforegon does make a fair point, though, in saying that all backups in one place is asking for problems down the line.
Incidentally, this Time Machine problem first started occurring when I upgraded to Mavericks. 9 times out of 10 my Time Machine partition would go corrupt for no reason. This definitely hadn't been happening at all before Mavericks. That same upgrade also killed off my entire Boot Camp partition, which caused me major headaches and I eventually had to simply reformat that partition and start again.

  • Blu-ray Error: "not enough fre storage". Code:"25", Note "Not enough space on media"

    I have a project a  Encore CS6 V6.0.1.013 for MAC.
I tryng export do Blu-ray Disc, but ireceved this error message
Blu-ray Error: "not enough fre storage". Code:"25", Note "Not enough space on media"
But at "Disc Info" i have 14.71mb free

My longer notes on this error:
The most common workaround for this is to build to a folder and burn with ImgBurn (for PC) or toast (for Mac).
Searches show that there has not been success in many situations. I do not believe that it is one problem.
I have generally believed that the error refers to temporary storage on the hard drive. And users underestimate the amount of temporary hard disk drive space used. For bluray it is about twice the disk or more.
Some users experience this error when they are creating dual layer BD disks, and a layer is more than 25G. Each video/layer must fit on one side.
And some users successfully burn their disk by re-encoding to a lower bitrate (a 25G BD disk does not hold 25G). Encore uses padding to predict the size on disk (e.g. add 10% to the amount of space it predicts that build will use), and it can be wrong.
Always good to "run as administrator, though I don't know that ever fixed this issue if someone wasn't.
For CS4 there was a required update for a Roxio component. I believed this was a temporary problem due to the combination of Win7 and Encore CS4, but users on newer OS and Encore have reported resolution of problems after installing the patch.

  • Blu-ray Dual layer code 25 "not enough space on media"

Using Encore CS6 (Cloud edition) to build Blu ray Dual Layer on Mac. Project is 34.75 GB. While building Blu-ray Image all is well until Data written 34.75 GB of 34.75 GB. Then the dreaded "Blu-ray Error: "not enough free stoarage", Code: "25", Note: "Note enough space on media" comes up and the buld is stopped. I repeated by building a new project with the same results. There is over 100 GB of free space on the hard drive. I paritially rebuilt the project at 22.5 GB and tried it as a single layer image. Everything worked fine for that Blu-ray image, so it appears this could have something to do with the Dual layer nature of the larger project. Any help and guidance would be much appreciated.

I would point out three points. You can try them in order:
You can apply the 6.0.2 patch that is available (if you have not done so) because the patch has a fix around this issue.
There is a lot of space requirements for the dual layer BD project. Here is the list of almost all the things that would need space:
First the asset's indexed files would need space. For audio files, there might be conforming happening that again would need space.
Then when yoy build the project, the assets will be transcoded (if already not or they are not Don't Transcode). This would take a considerable amount of space as the transcoded assets are complete footage which would be huge.
Then while creating a image file, First all the files (muxed video streams) would be copied on the disc in a folder (generally named BDMV) and then at the final step, they would be copied from the BDMV folder to the iso file and finally the BDMV folder would get deleted. So this step would need almost double the size of your project. IF your project is say 35 GB, then this step alone would take more than 70GB.
So the space requirement for a 35 GB (Disc Info) project might go to almost 100 GB.
But again there is some bug in size estimation for Motion menus and slideshows. Encore says that they will occupy lesser space but actually they are going to occupy more space. So if your project has motion menus or slideshow, then the estimation might be incorrect. So if it showing 35 GB (for example) and your project has motion menu or slideshow, then actually it might be 37GB or more or anything greater than 35GB depending on the slideshow and motion menu duration in the project.

  • "not enough space on out put media"

i have been using dvd studio pro and it worked flawlessly until now. i have been getting "not enough space on out put media" on the log. im using a 15" mbp and a recently acquired 20" imac. can anyone help me out?
    thanks

It sounds as though you are trying to put too much video onto your DVDs.
If this is the case you will have to lower the bitrate at which it is encoded.

  • Trying to build a DVD image, DVDSP4 says not enough space

I have many years' experience using DVD Studio Pro 4, so this hopefully is not a stupid question.
I'm using an iMac with 80gb free and an external HDD with 12gb free.  I have authored a DVD in DVD Studio Pro 4.  The project says it's 4.6gb.
I need to make a disc image file of the DVD so I can burn it to DVD media using another computer.  When I do this, it encodes for hours and then says "Formating Failed.  Not enough space of the output media"  (I might be paraphrasing.)
The only possiblt output medias, the iMac and the external drive, both have plenty of space, and the project is under the limit.  So what gives?

Let me try this again, because I think we're not communicating.
I have authored a DVD Studio 4 project with menus and assets, etc.  It simulates just fine.  The tab on the top of the DVDSP screen indicates my project is 4.6gb.  This means I should have no problem turning this project into a DVD.  The computer I'm working on has no DVD burning capabilities so I want to create a disc image of the project instead of burning a DVD.  I have done this before, where DVDSP encodes and builds a file that I can then use Disk Utility to burn to a DVD.  So, once I have my disk image, I will transfer that file to another computer, and use Disk Utility on that second computer to burn the DVD from the disk image.
    NOW
The problem I'm having is that DVDSP is not able to make the disk image.  When I go to "Build/Format", it should make a disk image, but instead, I get an error saying there is not enough space on the output device.  The "output device" in this case is my external Hard drive which has plenty of space.  That is why I am asking for help.

I managed to get some packeages on there but not all the ones I wanted. Here is my drive setup.

  • Not enough space on DVD?

i'm trying to burn a few DVD's of a few .mov files, but whenever it goes to burn it says there's not enough space on the output media. it's under 2 hours so that shouldn't be a problem, and i've burned stuff to the same type of disc that were larger than all these movies, so why would it not let me burn it?
    powermac g5   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

to be honest, i've no clue. i just started using DVDSP and every time i've just put the videos i wanted on the tracks and set up my menus and all worked fine. so how do i go about checking/fixing that?

    Dear,
As suggested, i have checked for the JVM configuration for low heap size but i found the value of MaxPermSize to be 256M. So, i guess this is not causing the "Not Enough Space" issue.
Please let me know where else do I need to check as i completely clueless about this problem.
    Thanks for your inputs.

  • Not Enough Space to Sync My Photos After Updating to 4.3

With iOS 4.2, I was able to sync my entire Aperture photo library to my iPad and still had about 3GB to spare on it. It's a 32GB iPad. If I recall correctly, the photos took up about 6GB on it. After updating to 4.3 today, iTunes is telling me that it can not sync my photos to it because there is not enough space.
How can this be? I had been syncing the entire library before with 4.2. OK, maybe Apple is optimizing the photos differently for 4.3 and they need more space, I don't know. I went ahead and cleared out all my video I had synced there along with some other stuff and freed up over 20GB of space which is available. Yet iTunes is still saying there's not enough space. How can this be? There was space with iOS 4.2, but not with 4.3. With 4.2 I had a few GB to spare even with my entire photo library synced. Now I freed up over 20GB and it's telling me it can not sync my photos.
So now I am going to try to selectively sync photos to my iPad instead of choosing the option to sync them all. I still don't understand why I was able to sync them all under 4.2, but not 4.3.

OK, I got it to work. Here is what I did.
First it seems that iTunes is over-estimating the size of the photo library before it re-optimizes it. I have 17k of photos that I sync. It was reporting it would need in excess of 30GB of space to sync it (actually it only reports that there's not enough space, it doesn't give you actual numbers, but I was able to calculate them).
So I cleared off all my videos from my iPad and whatever photos iTunes did sync to it and thus I had just over 20 GB free. Still wasn't enough space to sync my photos iTunes would report.
I know previously that my photos fit on my iPad under iOS 4.2 and even if Apple has changed the optimization process resulting in larger image files, I can't believe they would be 5x larger. So I decided to sync just a fraction of my photos. I synced about a third of my photos. iTunes reported that it would be using 10.5 GB of space for those photos. But once it optimized them and synced them to my iPad, it was less than 2GB of space. So I knew I would be able to fit them all, it is just that iTunes is over-estimating the size.
After a third of my photos were already synced to my iPad, now iTunes was reporting it would need 16.5GB for my entire library. I synced it.
In the end, I was able to sync my entire photo library back to my iPad and the resulting space used for it is 5.8 GB, not over 30GB as iTunes was estimating originally.
So if anyone else is having this issue, try clearing out some space on your iPad, and then syncing only a fraction of your library (a third or half) after that, then try syncing your entire library again. Once you do, you can put back media that you cleared out to make space.
    Cheers,
    Louis

    Hello,
I had the same problem and I eradicated it by changing used % of /tmp dir from 97% to 81% by removing unwanted files in /tmp folder.
    Try it out......
    df -k
Now u will see that ur swap space is not sufficient.Check the corresponding mounting directory.Remove unwanted files from this dir. Restart ur server.Your problem should be solved.Note: Restarting server is not needed but for safe side restart ur server.
In mine case, my dir was /tmp.I removed all unwanted files and then the problem was solved.
    Thanks

Reason I wrote the test was that in another program, I was calling kstat_open() and it was returning NULL with this error, and I wanted to know why. Seems the error is misleading. Any suggestions as to how else I might diagnose my problem, please?

Here are some general rules for error numbers:
    <UL>
    * For functions in section 2 of the manual, they return success OR they return failure and set errno. You should not check errno after a successful system call. These functions will clearly say in their man page that they set errno and what values it might get.
    * For functions in section 3 of the manual, they just return success or failure. In either case, they may or may not change errno. The fact that errno did or did not change tells you nothing about whether they succeeded or why they failed. The man pages for these functions do not show error numbers, so you should not check errno or use perror.
    </UL>
Your test shows that kstat_open can set errno to ENOMEM even when the open succeeds. This happens when kstat works to figure out how much buffer space it needs, and it is expected behavior.
When can kstat_open fail? It will fail if
    * the open of /dev/kstat fails
    * an ioctl(KSTAT_IOC_CHAIN_ID or KSTAT_IOC_READ) fails
    * a call to calloc fails
If you use the truss command, you will get a change to see what system calls libkstat is doing. This might help shed some light on the problem.

  • Can't build packages not enough space [Solved]

I'm trying to compile latest -ck kernel but after it gets built I get an error saying: there is not enough space to build package.
I remember that last time I was compiling the kernel, I've set-up so that /tmp is loaded in memory or something like that..
And now when I try to compile the kernel, even though I choose menuconfig I still don't get in ti, to turn it off or even check what it was.
My /tmp just have 1,3GB free space left, so that could be it, but I doubt it...

Copy paste the actual error message and surrounding test (eg, the output from makepkg) would be helpful.
    EDIT: Spelling
Yeah I tought so... Sorry for not including it in my OP, but I've just done it then and forgot to copy-paste and didn't want to do it again.

That's what happens, but I think it is problem with root, as when this happens there's only 9,7MB free space left.
I guess I have either remove unneeded packages or make root bigger...
