Not full hd on final cut.

i have a sony hdr cx7 and a flip video ultra camera. for some reason, when they are on final cut, they aren't 1080p, or in the flip camera's case, 720.
instead it is 960 by 540. i want the 1080p experience, so what should I do?

FCE supports HD frame-sizes of 1280x720, 1440x1080, and 1920x1080 at frame rates of 60i, 30p, 50i, or 25p. You should make sure your sequence settings are set to match the specifications of the footage from your camera. There is no sequence size in FCE of 960x540. To export in HD make sure you are either exporting via File > Export > Quicktime Movie or by using Quicktime Conversion and specifying your frame-size as a valid HD one.
If your camera shoots in 60p or 24p, you will need Final Cut Pro to edit this footage.

Can I import projects from the full version of Final Cut Pro X from when I was using the trial version?

So I recently purchased the full edition of Final Cut Pro X, and was wondering why one of the projects I was working on at the time it expired imported back into FCP without asking me, but the other did not. I really need to use this file, but it is in the format of .fcpproject, so I really don't understand why I am not able to use it. It sometimes says when I try to open it that the version of that project was made in an updated version of FCP, or something to that affect, so it cannot be used. I have no idea why it says this, because as far as I know that is un-true. Any ideas?
Edit: I also don't want to delete the trial yet, a little apprehensive, like maybe I need it. But I might if it comes to that. I suppose the time did run out so it is practically worth nothing...

You do not open fcpproject files. You don't double click or anything else. The files have to be in the correct folder structure in the Final Cut Projects folder and the application opens them automatically. Can you post screen shots of the Final Cut Projects folder and its location.

I'm with Jim on this. It always seems to work out better if you do not install over another version. You can use this app (freeware - thanks to Jon Chappel) to completely remove ALL Final Cut Studio apps and components: http://www.digitalrebellion.com/fcsremover/
Once that's done, install your newly purchased version.

It is still possible to upgrade some versions of FCP, especially the Studios, As always, the upgrades apply to base versions that needed to be purchased. The latest version of Final Cut Studio is no longer for sale from Apple but it doesn't run on a PowerMac anyway. The only Final Cut Pro product currently for sale is Final Cut Pro X, which requires an Intel Mac.

That's a compound clip. Not sure what you've done, but that's not a clip icon. Where did this media come from? How did it get into your computer? Is it really HDV? Was it captured using FCP?

I was importing media, and closed out of the media before stoping the media import. This is how the file saved on the hard drive.
I need to get this file into a format that FCP can open. Is there a way to export a .FinalCutCopy file into a .mov file???

I was able to figure it out. I renamed the file type to a .mov format and quicktime was able to open it. Then I saved that file format on the desktop, and imported in after I opened FCP. The file then imported and I was able to access the whole video clip I had! Thanks for your help!

Where can I find a full manual for final cut pro 6?

I'm trying to learn final cut because I haver an amature film making contest I'd like to enter and that would give me quite an edge, considering most of the intries will be using movie Could someone help me find a full manual or something that would assist in this indevor? I do only have final cut 6 because I am using my schools imac and that is ther vertion they have. so, can anyone help?

I have been trying to open a Final Cut Pro project but I keep getting this notification (title). The internet does not seem to have any solutions (maybe because of how simple it is).
I have had in on an external hard drive for a while.

It sounds like you're trying to open an FCP library. FCP files are never backwards compatible. The library structure was first created in version 10.1, so 10.0.9 will not open it. You'd need to find out which version created the library.

There's no "trial" version of Final Cut X, so I'm not sure what is currently installed.
Go to the App Store, and if you see his name or email, click it and click Sign Out. Then click Sign In, enter your own details, and make your purchase.

Viewer not playing video in Final Cut Pro!! HELP !!!!!!

I am on final cut pro version 10.0, and when I imported a clip and put it into the timeline, as the video plays, the viewer has a black screen! I can hear the audio as the video plays but the viewer is not showing the video.

Sounds like you haven't downloaded the codecs for that video. Try this.
If you bought FCPX from Apple, you should update from the App Store. Otherwise, no reason to be running 3 year old software.

Software update not working to update final cut 6 on PPC Power mac G5

My power mac g5 HD crashed and I did a fresh install on a new HD with mac osx 10.5. I updated the mac with available updates, and then reinstalled final cut studio 2 (finalcut 6) and CS3 Photoshop. The Updater is not picking up the updates for any of the software installed by final cut studio 2. Also, I tried to use the updater for adobe and it said there was no updates, but there was a problem with the adobe updater. Now I don't know if they are related, or just a weird coincidence. Did permissions repairs multiple times after booting and rebooting to no avail. I also tried to repair the disk and nothing. Help? I know i can manually download and install all the updates, but why the hassle ?

I do not manage to install it owing to the fact that when I write the serial number manufacturer for the recording and that I make

SD Card not showing up in Final Cut Pro on the MacBook Air

I have been using Final Cut Pro X on a Macbook Air (1.7ghz Intel i5, 256gb ssd, 4gb RAM) and when I insert an SD Card, it shows up but immediately disappears. It continues to be displayed on my friends MacBook Pro, but does not on my Air.

Still having issues with syncing audio (zoom h4n) video clips (multicam clip or sync clips). Normally works like a dream even on difficult material, but for some reason now randomly sync's clips way off the mark.

I am not able to share final cut pro x project to iTunes. it continues to say waiting.

I have not been successful in sharing a final cut Pro X project to itunes. It says waiting.   I can cancel it, of which I have canceled about ten submissions now, but each time it says waiting. What am I doing wrong here?

I am not running a compressor.   I am running the 30 trial version of Final Cut Pro X. I have created and finished a project.
I am running a brand new iMac with the latest OS version.    First I a highlight the project to share. I assume just by clicking on it.   click share - apple devices - then i select for which machine, (imac) i want it to render it for-select add to itunes- and click share.
Then it opens up the share monitor shows the project in question and says waiting. I can pause it, cancel it but I can not get it past waiting. the time registry under the info selection says 0.00 minutes but still waiting..
I am selecting the project correctly?   I have made only one project.

WD Hard drive not linking files to final cut

First time to the forum. I need help with this. I was adding a sound track to my completed feature length film when the worst nightmare in my life happened. I lost all of my footage during a shut down of Western Digital during editing. (not completely). For no reason the hard drive just turned itself off and I recieved an error message that "device removal error, the hard drive was not properly shut down and so on"........ didn't think of it much so I simply turned it back on and continued what I was doing. After saving my work and shutting down for a few hours I went back at it only to discover that my original timeline was not saved and I got a new user interface. I saw the clips I transferred in but one folder was completely gone along with my audio and stills. When I launced Final Cut I got this big fat message that there was media offline do I wish to reconnect. Everything was there but the sequence I was last working on. Frustrated I simply powered down and then re launced only to get more of a mess. After spending hours and trying to figure out what went wrong, I simply re-loaded final cut. The files are there on my hard drive but they are not linking. Is there a way to re-link these files? Is there some corrupt media? or is the hard drive simply no good. I only had it for a few months. I did a disk utility repair check and it says "Disk is working properly" This drive was bought to replace a Maxtor that crased on me as well. Any help or advice is greatly appreciated. Final Cut ROCKS!

Welcome to the forums. If I'm understanding you, your project file is not gone, but reverted back to a version from a while back. For your project file not being all there, do a search and make sure that there aren't any autosave files anywhere. As for your media files being offline, if they are on your WD drive, just reconnect them in the browser. Check the FCP Manual: IV-68
