Not getting sound from midi keyboard+mainstage

Hey all, been reading this forum to see if someone's question and answer covers my problem... it seems not. I have Keystation Pro 88, connected by USB to my MacBook Pro. Mainstage acknowledges the midi inputs, and will play the sounds I relate to my keypresses through the built-in audio. I then connect an external sound card to this (Tascam 122L), also via USB. I don't get the same sounds from the keypresses - I can see my keypresses graphically reflected on the screen, but the sound from my Mainstage concert doesn't come through either headphones plugged into the 122L or any mixing board receiving the outputs from the 122L. The 122L seems to work fine (anything plugged into its inputs gets me sound). All that's lacking is for the midi info from the Keystation Pro to be turned into sound.
To save a step in the troubleshooting, yes, I've configured my mainstage preferences to send and receive to the 122L.
I'm fairly experienced with Logic Pro, but have recently been looking to switch to a computer-driven live setup, too. So far, no luck.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.

What I've learned: the Tascam 122L has known issues when working with Leopard. Back in the store, I plugged another external card (Presonus Audiobox USB), which immediately worked with the Mac as though they were friends since birth.
I am rapidly warming to Mainstage.

  • Not getting sound from MIDI

I've been using Garageband with a couple jampacks and love it. I use my Clavinova keyboard for MIDI stuff and works perfectly.
But how can I do that in Logic? I've searched the forum forever trying to figure out how to do this. So here's what I want to do:
Use Logic Express, hooked up to my clavinova, and use the garageband instruments. The audio recordings are fine, the MIDI information is coming through because LE shows when I play notes on my keyboard. But no sound is coming out.
Can someone either tell me the steps to get from point A to B, or give me a link to a website or forum topic where this question is clearly answered? I know nothing of MIDI and Quicktime Synth and all that stuff. Thanks, Jeremy

Look in your manual for 'Audio Instruments', that'll tell you how to set them up in detail.

  • No signal AND sound from midi keyboard at all

So basically I had been running logic pro x on my retina macbook 13" with just my m-audio axiom air 49 midi keyboard controller. At this time I didnt have an audio interface but now that I have plugged one in (Focusrite 2i2) to my laptop along with the keyboard, there is absolutely no signal in Logic Pro x or sound coming out of my monitors when I press a key. I have tried resetting the MIDI drivers on Logic, done the whole Preferences>control surfaces>setup thing and there was nothing there.. I have tried opening up the Audio MIDI Setup>Show MIDI Studio>Rescan MIDI to no success.. I have tried disconnecting and reconnecting the keyboard and even when I unplug my audio interface from the macbook and just have the keyboard plugged in like it originally was there is no signal or sound, also I have tried restarting the macbook to no success.. It is like the keyboard has vanished or something?!
What should I do? Has anyone else encountered this problem? Is there something I haven't tried?
One thing I am thinking about doing is upgrading to the Focusrite 2i4 (which has MIDI ins and outs) and just plugging the keyboard directly from a MIDI output to my interfaces MIDI input.. Would that work? I literally have no idea what the **** is going on I have never seen anything like this..
    Thanks!

Bro its all good now its sorted out!! Okay so it turns out that the cable I was using to plug my keyboard to my computer wasn't the one that came with it in the box when I bought it! Cus I recently moved all my stuff and put the wrong USB cable in when setting it all up again.. I don't know why that would be a problem anyway cus its the same cable isn't it?! But its all sorted out now!!
Seriously thanks a lot man for taking the time out to even reply and look into my post, I didn't think anyone would even bother! Thanks a lot again!!!

  • Not getting sound from both sides of head phones

Have tried head phones in other players they work fine but my nano is only playing on one side , also when I insert or remove head phone jack puts my nano into pause mode ? any sugggestions ??

The iPod is designed to go into pause mode when the headphones get pulled out of it. I guess it's so when you are moving around, and by accident you rip the headphones out, it'll pause the song, so that when you re-connect, you get to go back to where you were.
Is the inside of where yoiu put the headphone plug in your ipod all gumed up, and dirty?
Have you tried using other headphones on your ipod?
Some songs are only 1 sided, meaning that they come out of one side of a headphone. Although this is probably not the problem.
Has your ipod ever fully worked, with both headphones working? If not, the ipod may be shot, and you might want to send it in for repair.

  • Can't get sound from my midi channels

Hello. I've been using Logic 8 for a while. 2 days ago I updated to the newest version 8.0.1 and after I did it, I can't get sound from my midi channels. Before the update I could use my Ivory pianos perfectly, but after the update I can't. I've tried every setup I can imagine. I've been here sitting for hours trying to fix it but I can't .
Logic recognizes my keyboard, since I play...all the notes appear on the transport bar, but i can't get sound from any sampler (Ivory, EXS, EVP88, etc).
I've checked my outputs, etc...but nothing.
    Please help me!!! I'm desperate!
    Thanks

Do you hear the Audio tracks and only Software Instruments are not working od don't you get any output at all? I was just assuming that through the update your Apogee has been removed as your Audio device in Preferences->Audio->devices.

There are many possible causes for this issue. Take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. Some may not apply to your model. Back up all data before making any changes.
    1. Start with the steps recommended in this support article. Don't skip any of the steps. It's the starting point for further efforts to solve the problem.
    2. Run Software Update and make sure you have a fully up-to-date installation of OS X.
    3. If you've installed an application called "Memory Clean" or any other third-party software that is supposed to "clean" or "purge" memory automatically, remove it according to the developer's instructions and restart. You should do that even if the software is not causing the problem, because it's useless.
    4. Other third-party software that has been reported to interfere with sound output includes "Boom" and "Samsung Kies." If applicable, uninstall according to the developer's instructions (not by dragging something to the Trash.)
    5. If an AirPlay device is selected for sound output from iTunes (or from other applications via third-party software such as "Airfoil"), deselect it.
    6. Launch the application "Audio MIDI Setup" by entering the first few letters of its name in a Spotlight search and selecting it in the results (it should be at the top.) Select Built-in Output from the list on the left. If the Mute boxes are checked, uncheck them.
    7. If a red light is visible in the audio-out port when sound should be playing, the internal switch is stuck in the position for digital output. You may be able to free it by inserting and removing a mini-stereo jack of the proper size. Inserting any kind of tool in the port may cause damage that won't be covered by your warranty.
If there's no red light, the switch may still be stuck in the headphone position. Try to free it the same way.
    8. Disconnect all wired peripherals except keyboard and mouse, if applicable. If more than one display is connected, disconnect all extra ones. Restart and test.
    9. If you have a MacBook Air, turn off Bluetooth and restart.
    10. Start up in safe mode. Don't log in; just restart as usual when the login screen appears. When you do, make sure the words "Safe Boot" do not appear in the login screen. If they do, the system is still in safe mode and sound won't work.
    11. Reset the NVRAM.
    12. Reset the SMC.
    13. Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    /Library/Preferences/Audio
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item selected. Move the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator login password. Restart the computer and empty the Trash. Recreate your settings in the Sound preference pane.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C. In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
    14. Reinstall OS X after backing up all data.
    15. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store.

  • How do I get sound from external device into my iMac?

Hi there, I am trying to get sound from a Pioneer DJ mixer which has standard RCA outputs into my my new 21" iMac. Typically in the past I would get a converter from RCA to 1/4" stereo jack and plug into microphone input, how simple. Now Apple has changed the set up and have no idea as to how to get sound in. The headphone jack in the back of the iMac will only take sound in from earbud microphone, other than that it will only be for sound output. Any help would greatly appreciated.

do i need to transfer the midi region to the audio region to hear the play back.
If you need audio monitoring of your device the "Software monitoring" in the Logic Preferences must be enabled. You can switch on the Audio Track monitoring button (labeled as "I" at the bottom of the channel strip).
ive tried recording the keyboard audio thru and audio track it works just cant quantize it like u said and i think ive already tried it before but ill give it a go again
This is wrong conception. To be able to quantize or do any processing like that, you need to record your performance using a midi track in Logic.
    1. I hope you have created some Multi or Standard Instrument so you can edit (quantize) the midi region etc. When you decide that your midi work is O.K you can record it as audio using the Audio Track you are talking about.
    2. The other way (new one) is to use the "External" plugin inserted on a Software Instrument.
This way combines midi and audio i.e you record/draw the midi on the Software Instrument track and is outgoing from the Software Instrument channel strip. In this method you must use "Real Time" bounce cause you use external midi device.
    3. If decide to use the second method you can bounce the audio but you also can record the audio on an Audio Track if route the Software Instrument to a Bus and assign the Audio Track "Input" to record from that Bus.

make sure your ipad is not muted

make sure audio play out of the ipad when not connected to the hdmi adapter
if you did and it don't work then it's likely an issue with the connetor

  • Can't Get Sound from Harmon Kardon Soundsticks External Speakers

My Soundsticks have worked fine on my eMac and iBook bow I can' get sound from them. The System Pref has only "Internal Speakers" as an output option. I've zapped the PRAM and fixed permissions with no luck.
What am I missing? They have worked before and all connections from speakers to the iBook headphone jack are fine. Earbuds work.
Any and all help is appreciated.

Do the speakers still work with the eMac?
Have you tried resetting the PMU?
Are you saying that earbuds work with the iBook, while the speakers do not? How can that be if the only output option is listed as internal speakers?

  • Can't get sound from Insignia BT headphones w/ BT-equipped dv3t

Both are brand-new, I charged the headphones and downloaded the updated drivers from www.broadcom.com (actually Vista seemed to do it automatically) and the device is paired but I can't get any sound out of it (it's turned on:-)).
Under the Playback tab in the Sound control panel there are three items:
    Speakers: Bluetooth Hands-free Audio
Speakers and Headphones: IDT High Definition Audio CODEC
Independent Headphones: IDT High Definition Audio CODEC
All say they are working, but when I test the sound of each one I only get sound from the notebook speakers using the second option. The only weird thing I can think of is that I had the USB adapter plugged in when I downloaded the drivers, so maybe it downloaded drivers designed to work through USB? (I can't get sound with the adapter plugged in, though, either).
Any suggestions welcome, I really want to get this to work and not have to send the headphones back to seller (which is what Insignia tech support told me to do).
P.S. I know I have BT turned on because I'm also connected to a wireless home network, they go together.

    Hello again,
oops, I must have missed your last message... sorry for that!
I have to say, that I don t have my digital sound system that long, that I can answer this question for sure. However...
You re right, that it should be possible, although I wasn t able to find a way to do that... yet... Somewhere (don t know if it was this forum or another place) I ve read, that the SPDIF support for Windows Vista isn t that nice at this time... perhaps a new driver will solve this
Furthermore... I don t use the Media Center that much. So I don t even know if there is any option to set the output device (within the application Media Center). That would be important to realize "the best of both worlds". Explanation: If you want headphones support, you (always) have to leave the Speakers device as default. Other applications (such as Winamp,...) allow us to set the output device (in Winamp for example you can set it under the preferences Output -> Directsound device) to the SPDIF device, although we have selected "Speakers" as default in the control panel... nice, isn t it's For sure... if it would work...
That way you don t get a(n) AC3/DTS signal via SPDIF... so, if you use Windows Vista (I can't answer your question related to other operating systems, because of my newly purchased system -> I haven t used it on XP) the only way that I know ( til now) is to select the SPDIF device as default...

  • Getting sound from macbook to work on HDTV

Hi, I'm having problems getting sound from my macbook aluminum 13" to my tv. The tv is a Samsung R8 Series 37" LE37R87BD HD. i got picture up by running a dvi to hdmi to the tv. i have no problem with picture but i can't get any sound. I tried 3.5mm jack from macbook to tv 3.5mm jack. got no sound. so bought a 3.5mm Jack to 2 x RCA and still got no sound. i even ran the the jack through my home cinema system and to no luck.
is anyone else having this problem and is there a solution?

Forgive what may be a dumb question on my part, but you are using the correct audio jack on your MacBook? The output would be the one closest to the security slot, farthest from the display/USB ports of the two 3.5mm/optical jacks. Also check the Output tab of the Sound system preferences to make sure that the Headphones/Line output is selected. It will probably be the only output shown, but double-check just to make sure.
Note that not all TVs will work with an auxiliary audio input when the video input is set to HDMI. Check your TV's documentation to see if it can split the video and audio input to different sources. That wouldn't, of course, explain why your audio amplifier isn't getting signal either.

Means you still have the onboard sound turned on at a guess.
