Not giving warning before going to sleep

I know there are lots of battery issues. I plan on replacing mine when I can get the funding.... My issue is that when I'm working on mine - no major power sucking applications just word or firefox - I'll have about 50% battery showing and then all of a sudden it just shuts down and goes to sleep. No low battery warning - nothing.
do I need to recondition it? Or is it just dying and I have to face facts?

Apple doesn't make its own batteries, so any battery you buy will be a third-party battery in some sense, even if it has an Apple label on it. Years ago, I direct-ordered a battery for an older Powerbook from Battery Technoloogy (BTI) that surprised me by arrriving with an Apple label and serial number on it, though it hadn't been advertised as an Apple battery. Perhaps BTI was manufacturing that particular battery for Apple. It can be nearly impossible to distinguish vendors from manufacturers without inside information that most of us don't have. So I wouldn't worry too much about anything other than capacity, price, and the manufacturer's and/or vendor's warranty and return policies.

  • Request to Mods. re: Yoga Tablet pro 2 not wakeable after it goes to sleep

We have a number of posts regarding the Yoga Tablet Pro 2 going to sleep and not waking up.  Can we get some kind of confirmation that this is actively being worked on or passed along?  I feel most of us have tried to do a factory reset, for some it's worked for a time, others (such as myself) this has not worked at all.   It is not a battery issue because when you hard power off the device and repower it back on, the battery still shows maybe a few percent less than when the device went to sleep.
I do know this is frustrating me and I'm tempted to walk away from this tablet for that reason.
Perhaps we can get a confirmation that this has been passed up the chain or any kind of other "official" recommendations to try.  It's not fun having to come back to my tablet after it goes to sleep and having to hard power it off and then repower it back on - every 5th or 6th time.
    Thank you,
    Dan

I am bumping this.  I'd like to see one thread or a sticky on this topic.  There are too many threads on this issue and some of us are repeating the same information.  I'd also like to know if any work is being done by Lenovo on this issue.  The Factory reset seemed to work for a 2 weeks and now my tablet is back to sleeping and not waking.
If someone stumbles on this, the North American Number for Lenovo Tech Support  is:

If you call, Remind them that the Factory reset does not work.

  • Windows 7 Does Not Respond after it goes to sleep

We are using Windows 7 image distribution through SCCM for our entire organization. Lately, I came across this issue, now becoming more common on all
the systems. The computer won't wake up from sleep by pressing any key, if left unattended for more that 30 Mins (rather after it goes to sleep). A forced Restart is then necessary to return everything to normal.  We are using Dell Latitude E series laptops,
as a standard all throughout our organization.
Already tried lot of option like - upgrading the drivers, changing the power plans etc. However, neither of them worked. Any suggestions in this regard
    are highly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Sam

  • Not backing up when going to sleep?

A few times each day, after my computer's been sleeping, it turns back on and says that hit had an error backing up. I then click okay and it seems that it's good to go for a while. But it always pops up again. I am guessing it has something to do with the system going to sleep right as it's beginning the backup process or the like, but am clueless as to how to figure out what's going on and how to fix it. Any and all thoughts appreciated.
    Thanks!

    Hi dhaz-
Greetings and welcome to the Apple boards.
Generally this behavior is caused by an external peripheral or internal PCI card.
Try disconnecting all USB and FireWire peripherals including hubs. If the mouse and keyboard are wired give each of those it's own USB port on the Mac. See if this solves the problem.

  • MacBook Air will not power on after going to sleep

I have a 13" MacBook Air (2012) that has been giving me some issues on and off lately. The past month or two, it has had a few instances where it would take a lot of time and work to get it to "wake up" after the lid was opened. A few times I had to hold the power and reboot it as it was non-repsonsive and would not display anything on screen (black screen). Then a few weeks ago it was un-responsive for a minute upon opening the lid but I eventually got it to come alive but it was very slow to get going as there were quite a few programs running and it auto-rebooted itself. Once I logged in, it did it again but this time it got hung up on the apple logo on boot and was in a cycle of trying to reboot itself but failed at the apple logo. I eventually got it into recovery mode and went into Disk Utility. It found some problems with the hard drive and fixed them. After that, it booted up fine and hasn't given me any problems UNTIL... yesterday, it won't even attempt to power on at all. It was working fine yesterday morning and I was only using Safari (no other programs running) then I closed the lid and left for a few hours with it just sitting there. I didn't take it with me, drop it or anything like that (In fact, it's never been dropped). I just left it right there where I was using it and closed the lid. I came back in the afternoon and opened it up and waited for it to come on but nothing happened. It wasn't even powered on as I put my ear up to it and listened for noise. I've tried holding the power button, I've tried Option+Power, I've reset the SMC, but nothing happens. I don't know what else to try. I believe this model may have a recall on the solid-state-drive but I'm not sure that is it as it should at least power on and display a folder with a "?" mark if the hard drive was bad. I'm wanting to attempt to resolve this before I make a 1.5 hour trip to the Apple store so any help and suggestions are welcome.
    Things you should know:
It successfully resets the SMC as the orange light flashes green for a few seconds before turning orange again.
I've tried the charger with 2 different plugs with and without the extending cord. I've also tried booting on battery power only.
The power button is not broke as it recognizes it while doing the SMC reset.
Thanks so much for all your help, Silas

Are you sure you mean green?  Mine is orange when charging and green when fully charged - always been like this with the 3 macbooks I have owned.

  • White Macbook has delayed start with a blue screen and will not wake when it goes to sleep

I have a late 2006 MacBook that I recently bought used.  When I got it I was experiencing very long boot times.  It would have the apple logo then go into a blue screen for about 5 minutes before loading to the OS.  Nothing I did fixed the issue.  I was told it was not a hdd or ram issue, but maybe a logic board issue.  I then purchased a new hdd since that was the concensus online.  After installing it I got the it to load right away when it booted from the install disc.  However, after the OS was installed, it gave me the same problem.  Also, when trying to update to Lion it would freeze on the apple logo with the spinning dots.  I did not try to install Lion on the new hdd as I wanted to use the machine and it was working with minor inconviences.  I then read about resetting the system by taking off battery, holding power for ten seconds, then replacing battery and restarting.  This actually fixed the problem.  I was able to install Lion and everything was working perfectly.  I then replaced the topcase becuase the one on the computer was scratched and dirty.  After I did that I was unable to load anything.  It would not go into lion or anything else.  I fiddled with the command lines and nothing.  I had someone else who spoke unix fiddle with it and I was finally able to get it to boot from the install disc.  After doing a clean install, from erasing and creating a new partition, I am back to square one with a long boot time and not waking from sleep.  This time the battery trick is not working.  I have done the PRAM reset and disc repair and permission repair.  All to no avail.  I know that it has the capacity to work because it did.  Please help me, I really want this to work.  Thanks.

It seems thst the MBP is not recognizing the internal HDD.  Look at this link and probably the section 'Start from your Mac OS X Install disc; use Disk Utility' will be applicable:

  • Black screen before going to sleep

With the "dim screen..." option box UNCHECKED, instead of dimming the screen before putting the display to sleep, the screen turns black. The same kinda black as if you dim your backlight to 0.
So I can still see some windows etc... but the backlight is just not working.
This is very annoying cause it turns my screen to black after one minute when I am on the battery and it makes it impossible to read a text.
I believe this is a bug... what do you think, o you have the same problem?
PS: Of course my sleep setting is set to a much longer time (15 minutes) so it is not related to that.

  • HP Envy shutting down after going into sleep mode

Hi.  I'm not sure where to post this so I'll try it here.
My laptop shut downs automatically when it goes into sleep mode.  Not right away when going into sleep mode.  Maybe like an hour later after going into sleep mode.
I'm not sure it's overheating because it never shuts down while I'm actually using the laptop.
Do you guy have any idea how to fix this?
Product name and number:  HP ENVY TouchSmart Sleekbook 4-1115dx
    Operating System:   Window 8
    Error Message:  None
Any changes to your system before problem occurred:  No

    Hey Tecmo_SB_Guy,
I would suggest you take a look at advanced power settings. It can seem like the notebook is turning off when it is actually just hibernating. You can set it to not hibernate.
    1. Windows key + Q to open the Search Bar
    2. Type "power"
    3. Click Settings under the Search Bar
    4. Select Power Options from the results on the left.
    5. In Power Options, Click Change when the computer sleeps, on the left.
    6. Set the Put the computer to sleep setting so that it fits your usage best.
    7. Click Change advanced power settings, at the bottom.
    8. Expand Sleep and expand Hibernate after. If you want you can change the hibernation setting to Never by typing "Never" into the minutes field. See attached picture. You can do this for battery and/or plugged in.
    9. Click Apply to save changes.
If you don't already shut it down periodically, I would suggest shutting it down at least 2-3 times a week if you use it daily. Leaving the computer running continuously can shorten its lifespan. Hard drive failures and motherboard issues are seen much more often on machines that are left running constantly. Computers get bogged down and run slowly when the memory is full. Memory only clears out and resets itself when the computer is shut down. Here is a link explaining more about memory accumulation and hardware aging.
I hope these suggestions help! Please let me know if you have any questions

  • IMac can't watch streaming Flash fullscreen w/o repeatedly going to sleep

This is not an Energy Saver System Preferences issue.
The machine is set to never sleep. However, whenever I watch streaming flash video full screen, the machine will put itself to sleep, usually within just a minute or two of the video being made full screen. You wake it up, and within 10-15 seconds, the machine will sleep itself again - repeatedly. I have already reset the SMU, but that hasn't solved the issue. Resetting the P-RAM has made no difference.
I'm not sure if this is a software issue, or, perhaps a hardware issue.
    Any ideas?

    UPDATE:
Full screen or not, it is still going to sleep.
    This is a hardware issue:
Jan 1 11:23:11 Atlantic kernel[0]: IOSMUPwrController:: OverTemp notification
Jan 1 11:23:11 Atlantic kernel[0]: PowerManagement emergency overtemp signal. Going to sleep!IOPMSlotsMacRISC4::determineSleepSupport has canSleep true
    Jan 1 11:23:14 Atlantic configd[37]: AppleTalk shutdown
    Jan 1 11:23:15 Atlantic kernel[0]: System Sleep
Not sure why machine is overheating. Vents seem clear of obstructions.
However, it seems so far to only be happening when I watch flash video.
