Not in iTunes

My ipod is not recognized in iTunes, when plugged in it says "please wait very low battery" and shows a sad face every minute or so, none of the troubleshooting worked

There is a pretty comprehensive post written by another forum member which is about the sad iPod icon. Be aware that it's quite involved and contains some info that will almost certainly void the warranty. If your iPod is still within the warranty period, you should use that option first.

  • Bug/Solution: iPod seen by Windows but not by iTunes

(apologies if this has already been reported)
So I had the problem where iPod would show up in Windows as a drive letter, but iTunes wouldn't see it at all. I had followed all the instructions in this article to no avail:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93716
And then I tried something which ended up working. This may be somewhat of an edge case scenario, but it's possible others may hit it:
My OS is installed on the D: drive, instead of normally on C:. Also, there was nothing assigned to C:. So when the iPod was plugged in, Windows gave it C:. As I said, iTunes would not recognize the device at all.
On a whim, I reassigned some other USB device to C: so that the iPod would be forced to a different drive letter (I think it was G). Lo and behold, iTunes recognized the iPod just fine.
I didn't do any other testing on it, but it seems if iPod's drive letter < OS letter, iTunes won't see it(?)
Anyway, hope this helps someone else.<br>

Thanks a lot, I must have spent close to 15 hours trying to figure out why my ipod didn't work with my re-installed windows. It turned out my windows was on drive H:, and the ipod was being mounted to drive C:. I switched the ipod to drive I:, and it finally worked! The following instructions may help if your computer sees your ipod in windows explorer (My computer) but not in iTunes, and the ipod is mounted on a drive letter lower than the operating system.
To switch your Ipod to a different drive letter:
    1. Connect your ipod to the desired usb 2.0 port.
    2. Go to the start menu and click "Control Panel".
    3. If you are in "Category view" (check the upper left where it says "Switch to classic view") switch to classic view.
    4. Double-Click "administrative tools".
    5. Double-Click "computer management".
    6. Under "storage" on the left, click "Disk Management", and wait for it to connect to the logical disk managament service.
    7. Your Ipod should show up in "volume" column; RIGHT click on it and select "Change Drive Letter and Paths..." from the pop-up menu.
    8. Click on the "Change..." button.
    9. Select a different drive letter from the pull down menu. (Pick a drive letter higher than the one your operating system .ie Windows XP.. is installed on. For example if Windows is on drive D:, then pick a drive letter E: or higher.)
    10. Click "Ok"
    11. Click "Yes"
    12. Restart the computer, and see if your Ipod will connect to iTunes!

  • IPod Recognized in Windows, not in iTunes

Like many others on this forum, I've been having issues with iTunes and my iPod since installing iTunes 7.0. My iPod appears in My Computer, but iTunes will not recognize it.
My first instinct was to try the iPod updater, however when I attempt to run it I get the following error message: "Invalid iPod Service Version."
I have tried everything I could find on this website, starting with all the steps in Apple's "iPod shows up in Windows but not in iTunes" article. Most of these steps have not worked, though I've had limited success with the step entitled "Restart the iPod Service." After performing this step, iTunes does indeed recognize my iPod, but this only works until the next time I eject my iPod. It does not appear to be permanently solving this issue for me, as I have to manually restart the iPod service every time if I want it to work. I noticed during this step that my iPod service was set to "Manual", so I changed it to "Automatic", however this has made no difference.
None of the other steps in that article have worked for me, and yes I have done every one of them. I have additionally uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes several times. I have attempted to uninstall iTunes 7.0 and reinstall an older version, but this no longer works as there seem to be errors if I attempt this. I have tried reinstalling the iPod software, but this hasn't helped either. I have tried the first 4 out of the 5 R's, but this hasn't helped (I'm not quite willing to believe I have to restore my iPod just yet). I have tried resetting the iPod while it's connected to the computer, but this hasn't helped. I saw in one user's post that he was able to fix his problem by going to the Device Manager, clicking on his iPod, clicking the Volumes tab, and clicking Populate, but this didn't work for me. I have tried toggling AutoRun on and off, but this hasn't worked. I tried deactivating all potentially conflicting startup services, but this hasn't worked.
I'm really at the end of my rope here. If anybody has any new suggestions I would greatly appreciate the help.

    Hi Toonz,
Please note that in my above post I stated that I did indeed follow the steps you outline below, which I originally found in Apple's main article on this topic. The result was that it worked temporarily. The iPod was recognized, but only until I ejected it. It only works once. If I attempt to connect the iPod again (either before or after rebooting), it is again unrecognized and I have to manually repeat the steps below to get it to work.
Also I did take your advice and try booting with the iPod plugged in. During the boot up process I see a black screen with some text and a message, which I believe said "Diskette Drive 0 failed to initialize". Something like that. When my computer finishes booting and I open iTunes, yes my iPod is recognized, but again this only works one time. If I eject the iPod and reconnect it it is unrecognized. It is only recignized if it is connected before booting up, which is definitely not the way an iPod is supposed to work.

  • IPOD Nano appears in Windows XP Pro, but not in iTunes even 7.1.1

    Dear Experts
I have 1 GB iPOD nano. In my computer it is identifying in My Computer. But, not in iTunes.
But, if I put the iPod in Disk Mode, then it is being identified both in My Computer as well as in iTunes also. Then, If I sinc OR manually drag music from PC to iPod in iTunes, it is happening. But after ejecting the iPod from iTunes. The iPod go on blinking mode only.
(Off and On). How to take it out from Blinking mode to normal I am not able to know.
Then in that stage If I reconnect it to PC, it is appearing in Disk mode in iTunes. Then to get it normal mode I need to restore it in iTunes. Then only it is comming to normal ipod activity after rmoving it from PC. But after restore there is no music na.
Software also updated from 1.1 to 1.3 through iTunes in Disk mode. I have downloaded lates iTunes 7.1.1 also from net.
Please guide me to solve my proble. I found so many people like me who purchased iPod of Apple suffering like this. Why Apple put this much tipical process for their product ?
    Thanks in advance.

I installed iTunes on a computer that has never had it on it before and it still will not pick up my ipod, yet windows shows it as well as the updater...I have ruled out iTunes and the cord, I believe something is wrong with the iPod itself....any suggestions? I have restored it and formated it, not sure what else I can do

  • IPod Touch 1st Gen is showing up in Computer but not in iTunes

I recently updated to iTunes 10.3 I didn't try to sync my iPod immediatly though so I didn't notice this problem until just now. I went into iTunes to sync my ipod and the ipod would show up in Computer or in iTunes, I uninstalled it and downgraded to iTunes 10.2, then my iPod would show up in Computer but still not in iTunes and in Computer it said it was and "Apple iPod" instead of "<My Name Here>'s iPod Touch". Just now I updated to iTunes 10.4 and it iis still showing up in Computer as "Apple iPod" but it isn't showing up in iTunes.
I don't know if this will effect anything but I am running Windows 7 Home Premium.

Would someone please at least give me some advice like microwave my laptop or something?

My iPod nano is recognized under My Computer but not in iTunes.
I formaatted the iPod nano as FAT32 using the format option when right-clicking on the drive in My Computer.
I installed the latest version of iTunes software. I adopted the five R's approach to resolve my issue. I have wanted to restore the iPod but this option is not available in iTunes, since the iPod is not recognised by the software.

I think a more comprehensive format might solve the problem. Anyone with any ideas.

  • I have an old ipod that i have not used in a very long time, ive had it on a charger now for over an hour and i still cnnot get my ipod to turn on, how can i fix my problem, i just downloaded the new version of itunes aswell, so i know its not my itunes.

i have an old ipod touch that i have not used in a very long time, and im having trouble gettign it to turn on. ive had it on a charger for over an hour now and still nothing hs changed. i just updated my itunes to the current version they haev so i know its not an itunes problem its rather a problem with the old ipod touch itself. im leaving for deployment soon and im trying to get this fixed without having to send it in. If anyone has any ideas on how to get this thing turned on it would be greatly appreciated.

    Well, two thoughts.
The battery has completely discharged and will take overnight to recharge, so don't expect much in an hour.
The battery has deep discharged and is now dead. It will never recharge and should be replaced.
If your iPod Touch, iPhone, or iPad is Broken
Apple does not fix iDevices. Instead they exchange yours for a refurbished or new replacement depending upon the age of your device and refurbished inventories. On rare occasions when there are no longer refurbished units for your older model, they may replace it with the next newer model.
You may take your device to an Apple retailer for help or you may call Customer Service and arrange to send your device to Apple:
Apple Store Customer Service at 1-800-676-2775 or visit online Help for more information.
To contact product and tech support: Contacting Apple for support and service - this includes international calling numbers.
    iPod Service Support and Costs
    iPhone Service Support and Costs
    iPad Service Support and Costs
There are third-party firms that do repairs on iDevices, and there are places where you can order parts to DIY if you feel up to the task. Start with Google to search for these.
The flat fee for a battery exchange is, I believe, $99.00 USD.

  • My ipod shows up on my desktop, but not in itunes 7.

Let me start out by saying I've never had any itunes + ipod probems before. Everything has run smoothly up until now.
Last week I upgraded my OS to 10.4.7 because I had been running on 10.2.8 since 2001 and itunes wouldn't let me download albums containing music videos. So I decided it was time for the upgrade. I also upgraded to itunes 7 and had been previously using itunes 6. This is when the problems started. Now whenever I plug my ipod into my computer with my firewire cord, my ipod shows up on my desktop, but not in itunes and I am completely clueless on what to do. No error messages pop up or anything. My ipod charges and that's about it. I tried doing the 5 R's, but none of that helps. I have a feeling it's itunes's problem and not my ipod's. I was thinking that maybe if I uninstall itunes 7 and re-install 6, everyting would work again; but I don't know how to uninstall itunes and I don't want to risk losing my library. I'd just like for itunes 7 to recognise my ipod and update it. Can anyone help me?

My iPod is a click wheel...I think that's fifth generation?
I've always used my firewire cable to update my iPod. I've tried using USB in the past but for some reason it always says that my iPod has low battery and won't let me update it, so I just use firewire. Can I not use firewire with itunes 7?
I'll try using the USB again. It's laying around here somewhere. Just gotta find it.

Save all the photos from your Droid into a folder on your computer.
Connect your device to your computer. On iTunes left Pane, select iPhone under 'Devices'; then on the right Pane, select PHOTO tab.  Make sure Sync Photo box is checked, and "from" box selected the folder that has Droid's photos.  Then click the SYNC or APPLY button on the lower right window.

  • My iPod Classic is seen by Windows but not by iTunes.  I have reset it, gone to disk mode and it won't show up in iTunes.  There appears to be music on it in a file called MUSICSAVE.  How can I get this to work with iTunes again?

My iPod Classic is seen by Windows but not by iTunes.  I have reset it, gone to disk mode and it won't show up in iTunes.  There appears to be music on it in a file called MUSICSAVE.  How can I get this to work with iTunes again?

    1. Update iTunes to the latest version. Plug in your iPod. If iTunes still can't recognize it, then in iTunes in the top left corner click help> run diagnostics. On the box that comes up, check the last two things. Click next and it should identify your iPod.
    2. Click on your windows start menu. Type in "services". Click on it and when it pops up, on the bottom of it click on "standard". Now Scroll down to find "Apple Mobile Device" Right click it when you see it and click on "Start". When it has started, close iTunes and replug in your iPod and it should show up.
    3. Check the USB cable
4 Verify that Apple Mobile Device Support is installed
    5. Restart the Apple Mobile Device Service and verify that the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is installed.
    6. If you just want to add some photos, songs and movies from computer to your devices, you can use an iTunes alternative to do the job
    7. Check for third-party software conflicts.

  • I can not open iTunes. It started when an upgrade appeared. Now I get this message when I try to open itunes. can not find MSVCR80.dll     Then I get ERROR 7 (windows error 126)   I tried reinstalling iTunes but that did not help. Please Help Me!

I can not open itunes on my computer. It started when an upgrade appeared. Now I get a message that states This application has failed to start because MSVCR80.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem. I tried to reinsall the application but it did not help. I also get a message iTunes was not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes   Error 7 (Windows error 126)   Please Help me!

Click here and follow the instructions. You may need to completely remove and reinstall iTunes and all related components, or run the process multiple times; this won't normally affect its library, but that should be backed up anyway.

  • I updated to iTunes 10.5 on Vista. As with iTunes 10.0, The DEP will not allow iTunes to open.  WHEN IS APPLE GOING TO ADDRESS THIS ISSUE?  I can't update my telephone or iPod.  I can't even open the iTunes program!!!

I am sick of dealing with this issue.  I wish not that I had never even started using any Apple products, beginning with iTunes.  WHEN IS APPLE GOING TO ADDRESS THIS ISSUE AND MAKE ITUNES SOMEHOW COMPATIBLE WITH DEP IN WINDOWS VISTA?
That being said, Is there any way to resolve this?  What I did in the past is completely wipe ALL Apple files from my computer, and install an older version of iTunes.  It was at least functional.  It seems that any version of iTunes 10.0 or more recent is not compatible with the Data Execution Prevention in Windows.  You can not remove iTunes from DEP, yet DEP prevents iTunes from running.
The down side is that I can't get the latest updates for my iPhone or iPod.  Now, I have a new phone for my husband that needs syncing on my iTunes, and I can't do that because iTunes won't even open.
Can somebody help me out with this, please?

OK, lets do a complete overhaul to make sure it's working ok.
First to check your Windows system file for any corruption:
Go to command prompt (START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES right mouse click "command prompt" and choose "Run as Administrator"
    type in
    sfc /scannow
let Windows fix any system files that need to be repaired.
    Restart the computer.
Start iTunes and see if it is ok.
If it doesn't, will have to go through the whole process of uninstalling and installing acccording to the following steps:
    1. Go to Microsoft website to fix install and Unistall problems. Click "Run now" from Fix it to remove all iTunes & related installer files:
    http://support.microsoft.com/mats/Program_Install_and_Uninstall
Be aware that Windows Installer CleanUp Utility will not remove the actual program from your computer. However, it will remove the installation files so that you can start the installation, upgrade, or uninstall over.
    2. You should remove all instances of iTunes and the rest of the components listed below:
it may be necessary to remove all traces of iTunes, QuickTime, and related software components from your computer before reinstalling iTunes.
Use the Control Panel to uninstall iTunes and related software components in the following order:
    iTunes
    QuickTime
    Apple Software Update
