I would call HP and tell them you cannot make your recovery discs, ask them to send you a set in the mail for no charge since you cannot make them yourself.
call HP on the phone 1-800-474-6836

  • Making a recovery media

I read here where you shouldn't use sandisk to make a recovery media after I made one. How do I check to see if it worked? It said that it was completed

If it completed you should be fine. Many of the Sandisk flash drives are not accepted by Recovery Manager as a source to use for Recovery files. Due to version of firmware on many new flash drives they are designated as a 'Local drive' rather than 'Removable storage'. Only drives designated as removable are used for Recovery creation. Unless HP has finally changed that behavior I would think your drive is designated as removable storage.

  • Making a recovery media stopped (froze)

I was doing my recovery media on DVD-R disks... But it stopped at 18% on verify disk ... It stayed there for 45 minutes .. What can I do to make sure it finishes ..

If the Recovery creation process refuses to complete ,phone HP and tell them about the issue and request a set.Usually they will be free if you try and fail with the software. If you live in US or Ca call 1-800-474-6836

  • Windows will not boot. Recovery media not working. Satellite L675D-S7052

I am using a Satellite L675D-S7052 with Windows 7. When the laptop is powered on, it will only run to the Windows loading screen (windows logo on screen) and will stop. The logo remains animated but it will not load any further.
I attempted to reset to factory settings using the recovery partition. It will run through "Windows is loading files" to completion, but it will then go to a blank screen with only the mouse cursor showing.
Finally, I attempted to recover from recovery DVD's I made previously. It loaded through the same screens as the recovery partition, halting again on the blank screen with the mouse cursor.
I backed up all important files on an external hard drive already. I was able to successfully boot an Ubuntu 12.04.2 live disk and it ran correctly. I can access the files on the hard drive for back-up from Ubuntu. I have not altered anything.
That's as far as I can go on attempting to fix this. If anyone can help me find my next step, please advise.

Hi! Sense you're not getting any replies, I will offer my opinion. Sense you can boot Ubuntu OS and it runs correctly, what else could be the problem but bad software?? You tried the recovery partition and the recovery DVD's and they reacted the same?? It's good that you can recover your important files. The recovery options are great, but a back up image on a external USB is your best protection. I just don't understand why people don't create a back up image of their OS. It's so simple!! When did you create your recovery DVD's?? Sense both recovery options act the same, I suspect corruption. That's the only thing that makes sense to me??
    Dokie!
I Love my Satellite L775D-S7222 Laptop. Some days you're the windshield, Some days you're the bug. The Computer world is crazy. If you have answers to computer problems, pass them forward.

  • Lenovo Provides 32 bit and 64 bit versions of VISTA & 7 by recovery media for FREE BUT HOW???

    Lenovo advertises this title:
When is it possible to switch between 32 bit and 64 bit versions of Microsoft Operating Systems by using recovery media?
    In this page:
    http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-74752.html
    BUT
Doesn’t give any info that how??? I
How do I contact a Lenovo Support Centre to place an order. Link brings you to contact numbers for Lenovo and after I call them they say these numbers are for IBM and it is only for hardware support.
I am wondering got know how on earth they accept orders for this type of complex issue by phone???
Specially that I am dealing with so special situation and I need some e-mail address to describe it Lenovo and wait for the answer...
I appreciate it if somebody could help me with this...
Thanks in advance for your help guys...

    Awesome dude,
Thanks for well described reply. I enjoyed it specially when I found out you don't work for Lenovo.
I am curious to know something. I could buy Windows 7 Bit for a very good price form Microsoft offers for university students that it probably cost me the same price as recovery media. Do you think it is a good idea to install a totally fresh windows 7 (NOT from the recovery media) on my t400s?
I am asking this because when you install operation system with provided recovery Media it builds another partition
with this name SERVICEV003 that is about 2 Gb and contains system files and stuff related to my laptop. I am afraid if I install windows without using recovery media but using Microsoft original DVDs then my laptop doesn't function properly?
What is your idea about this issue,
Thanks again for all your help, I appreciate it,
    Cheers,

  • Having trouble creating Recovery Media

    Hello everyone
I bought a new Lenovo disk and tried to install XP with some previous recovery Media but it doesn't seem to detect the second DVD disk during the recovery so I am forced to create a new set of recovery media.
The only issue is that the application crashes at startup with an issue for RRMedia.exe.
I said no problem; I’ll just update the RR software. I’m currently on Rescue and Recovery version 3.01.0037.00.
Unfortunately when trying to update I get errors:
    - for RR3x versions I get a message that sais a newer version is already installed
    - for RR4x versions it forces me to uninstall the 3.01.0037 version
The only problem is that I cannot uninstall the current version. When I try to uninstall it halts and asks me for a msi file that should be in the “C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Installations\” directory.
The said directory has the following subdirectories that are related to Lenovo:
    {0BF4011E-9066-4AA1-ABE5-0C21C7F86E6F}
    {462CED12-459C-4FC5-8BF0-AB6D4B18F9E5}
    {93D1D522-D1EA-4DBF-99B0-E68949FB99A4}
    {AE124339-6CC7-472C-8F3A-633EC608CDAE}
The uninstall registry key has the InstallSource key value at {93D1D522-D1EA-4DBF-99B0-E68949FB99A4}  but is does not seem to accept the msi file in that directory.
Also found another registry key that points to an upgrade :
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\UserData\S-1-5-18\Products\F51209FBB7D248C4A8420AB34CB159DD\InstallProperties]
    Modify Path = MsiExec.exe /I{BF90215F-2D7B-4C84-8A24-A03BC41B95DD}
    "DisplayVersion"="3.99.9999.00"
    "DisplayVersion"="3.99.9999.00"
The problem that the update directory is not there and the version is not what I see in the RR application.
I’m wondering if anyone else had the same problem and found a solution… Or, perhaps someone can understand the intricate interactions between the components and can help me find a solution.
    Any input is welcomed.
    Thanks
    Ovidiu

    Hi Herik
Thank you for your reply and sorry for the slow response time...
Here's my update for this situation:
R&R - no solution as it simply will not upgrade or uninstall. Tried multiple installation packages but no success.
The original recovery partition is not there as this is a new drive that I wanted to install on my system (2623DDU).
Instead I focused on the recovery media and I think i found a solution... BTW the media was created on my system in 2008, the last time I reinstalled my system and the version on the disk is RR 4.20.0511.00.
Here's what I did the first time
    - Booted the machine with Rescue And Recovery Startup Disk (1 x DVD)
    - Application installed correcty without errors the prompted me to eject the disk and reboot
    - Ejected and rebooted and after a while I had access to the recovery console (don't know the exact name of the application).
    - Select factory install/reset and followed the prompts
    - Asked for an expansion recovery DVD or something like that - I chose NO
    - Asked for the Product Recovery Disk (1 x DVD) but when I inserted it would not read it. It only said this is not a correct Recovery media, please insert the correct media and retry.
The solution was to plug the second disk in the machine WHILE it was booting, before the recovery application took control of the hardware. This way and only this way it worked, the recovery process sucessfully created and installed the recovery partition with all its content.
After that I had a few issues relating to the XP installation not having the ACHI drivers for my new disk but in the end I forced it to install.
The fact remains that on my current drive (the old one) I am not able to upgrade or uninstall the RR application and luckily I have my Product Recovery Disk otherwise it would have been a headache to recover....
    Sorry for the long post...
If you have any suggestions, advice or experience to share please share it ...
    Thank you,
    Ovidiu

  • ThinkPad Twist s230u and ThinkPad x201 Tablet Creating Recovery Media

    Hi Lenovo Customer Support,
    ThinkPad s230u( model number: 3347CTO) - Window 8 Pro.
Before I start using my Laptop, I want to create a Recovery Media as is shown when installed with all partitions. Meaning if I format all contents of Laptop I want a recovery Media brings back computer as I go it in the first place include all partitions. By default there are five hidden partition and one ntfs.
What is the procedure how to Create a Recovery Media? I heard only Flash Recovery exist for Window 8.
Also I have Window 8 Pro but when I tried this link procedure http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/T400-T500-and-newer-T-series/Create-Win-8-recovery-media-in-ThinkPad-Thi... I saw only Window 8 option and even then it reboot and did not work.
Also I did Flash Recovery and Took Faster with USB 3.0 Flash around 10 min around 16GB Space
Is it possible to do CD Recovery too ?
    ThinkPad x201 Tablet(Model Number: 30933PG) - Wundow 7 Pro
Can you do Flash Recovery Media and CD Recovery Media under Window 7 Pro  Enviro.
If you upgrade Hard drive to 1T and RAM to 16 G RAM  , Can you Still do the Recovery Media?
What is the Procedure to successfully create Recovery Media.
    Thanks.
    saad

    Reasons am asking this questions:
Sometime you test your computer doing a lot of things learning new technologies etc and suddenly you decide ok I want to take it back to factory state. Until now, most Thinkpad laptop does not come with recovery media. So how can I assure that my Recovery Media includes everything I used to have when I first receive unit.
I want to learn how to do that by myself by learning from the experts.
Until now what I know as follow:
    ThinkPad x201:
I tried recovery media  3 DVD only with original hard drive works. I did not try Flash and not sure there is option yet.
If I upgrade unit with 1T hard drive and 16G Ram, How can I do Recovery Media?
    ThinkPad Twist s230u:
I tried Flash and followed procedure on link in previous post. I took me less than 15 min to recovery whole. The question is does this process recover all the parts that is included when I receive unit.
I was unable to do recovery since I am not sure when in the Flash and during process showed to choose operating system was only Window 8 option not Window 8 Pro which came with unit.
I was able to do reset within system took longer and worked.
Is the recovery part build-in in the hardware or software partition? Is it included in the recovery Flash with all partitions?
Thank You. Awaiting for anyone to reply.

If you mean Motherboard when you said mobo then the recovery disk or drive will not work.
Recovery media contents have the motherboard info on then and will only with those respective motherboard.
    Wish you luck,

I have downloaded it from the Toshiba website..
I don't see it among the downloads at the link above. So I doubt you've got the right program.
See if you can locate the following file in either the Program Files or the Program Files (X86) folder. It should be the program you're looking for.
       TRMCLcher.exe

Otherwise, you can order recovery media from Toshiba. Scroll down to Get Recovery Media here.

  • Location of the Recovery Media Center application

I just recently purchased a L505D-ES5025. I did the Recovery Media Center backup of the system image. I then did a new install of Windows 7 Professional using Microsoft media. Following the installation, I applied the Toshiba drivers and applications from the original image. Everything seems to be running just great. Now I would like to do a image of the new system but apparently did not load the Recovery Media Center app. [I didn't load everything from the original backup - like Norton, Quickbooks, etc - I use a different antivirus.]
Which one did I missed that contained the RMC app?
    Thanks!

Good for you! It's always a good idea to write an image at this point.
The Toshiba application you're looking for was never on the hard drive. What was there wrote an image stored in another (hidden) partition. It has Home Premium and includes all the excess junk you probably want to avoid.
What you need is native to Windows 7. It's a complete, image-based backup of the entire computer.

  • Error message: this computer is not supported by the system recovery media.

I replaced a bad samasung hard drive in my Pavilion dv6z 3200 with a Seagate Momentus XT 750 GB 7200RPM SATA 6Gb/s 32 MB Cache 2.5 Inch Solid State Hybrid Drive ST750LX003 and when trying to restore Windows 7 64 bit OS get the error message "this computer is not supported by the system recovery media"

Is the new hdd at least as large a capacity as the original? Can be larger capacity, but sometimes smaller will cause error.
Enter BIOS by tapping F10 key. Is all system info intact/complete?

  • Hp the system recovery media does not support this computer, WIN7 GS72 Notebook

    HProduct: GS-B66US (17" I3 notebook)
    OS:             Win7
    Bios Rev:   F.47
Error message: "hp the system recovery media does not support this computer.  You are not able to restore this system"
Changes made to system:  Updated bios (I think).
Getting error messages (at system boot, as windows start, and from the intel hard drive controller) warning me to backup data and hard drive my fail.
I replaced the harddrive and inserted the first of my 4 recovery DVDs (created before I updated the bios).  After booting from the first recovery disk I get the following message
"hp the system recovery media does not support this computer. You are not able to restore this system with the media"
The computer still boots with the old hard drive (with drive failure imminent messages)  I do see support assistant offering another bios update but I did not install it with the hard drive problem
    PLEASE HELP
    TIA

    Hi,
I think there could be two possible reason. wrong media or systemboard is changed.
did you create any recovery media yourself or you ordered the recovery media from hp? also, was there any systemboard replacement done before?
media created on some other computer (same model) may not work on your computer.
you can order the media from hp.com here.
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&lc=en&docname=c00810334
also once systemboard is replaced you need to get the configuration settings done for BIOS(only HP can do it).
    hope it helps
    Regards,
    WW

  • Recovery Media Center not working correctly on C655D-S5200 purchased from retailer yesterday

I came to the Forum to see if anyone else is having the Create Recovery disk option.......  I wish I had read this as well as other topics before I bought this.  And this will be the 3rd time I have typed this out because of Forum Registration issues......am I ?
(3rd time)  I am trying to create Recovery Media.  The booklet that came with the computer and the Online User's Manual and the information stored on the computer all state something different about the Save media option.  My issue is:
    -I start the wizard
-Wizard allows the option of saving to USB (10 gb) or DVD (4)
-I choose USB and insert 16 gb flash drive into USB hub
-Wizard starts, formats flash drive, then starts
-After half an hour, the wizard stops and the two bars (Copyng Data and Overall Process) do not one more dot for at least half an hour and then I terminate.
-Information indicates that the total copying process should take only 1/2 hour.

I'm not a tech support agent, but to me it sounds you're not doing anything wrong. If it was me, I'd wait longer, say, a couple hours.

  • System Recovery media does not support the computer. HELP!!!

Ok problem here the recovery discs that were created do not work. And this is where I'm stuck.
First the details. It's a DV7-6163CL Laptop with windows 7. The discs were created shortly after we got the computer. The reason we have to try and recover the computer is hard drive #1 failed and failed hard. Hard drive was replaced. Now after trying to use the recovery discs we get the error message after a few windows loading screens in Recovery Manger.
"The system recovery media does not support this computer. You are not able to restore this computer with the media."
Well Hp doesn't support his platform anymore due to its age.
Is there anything I can do next to formatting the computer and getting a new OS?

Many times this error is caused by missing info in BIOS. Can you enter BIOS-F10 at power on- and check for serial number, etc?
Sometimes a new hdd requires prepping with Cyberlink Utility cd first. Download and Save the file. Once download is complete, put a blank cd in your drive and click the file to create a boot cd. Boot with this cd and wait until you get a green check mark indicating hdd is ready. Remove the cd , insert first Recovery Disk and restart the laptop.

  • Making sure i made recovery media right

Hi, i am pretty Technologically illiterate so i would like to make sure i made my recovery media correctly, I have  HP H8-1214 and ordered a new video card and power supply. My plan is to format my computer when i install them to clear all of the useless junk and bring it back to factory specs and start fresh.
I also figured before i do that now would be the time to create my recovery media jus in case, so i used recovery manager, put it ona  thumb drive, everything seemed to work fine, so if my hdd ever went down im now covered? This is all i would need? What kind of unnerves me is that when i check the files properties on the thumb drive it says it is only 350 MB, which seems absurd for how long it took, so i am just double checking if you all would be so kind!

    Zanje,
    Welcome to the HP Forum.
The following reference may help you.
From your computer's Troubleshooting > How-To Pages (if you are running Windows 7):
System Recovery / Backup / Restore
    For Windows 8:
Creating Recovery Discs or Saving a Recovery Image to a USB Flash Drive (Windows 8)
The Document explains the necessity to avoid the "Windows 8" compatible flash drive.  The logo is irrelevant.
If the USB flash drive shows as a "removable device" then Recovery Manager will create the drive.  You can check a flash drive you already have before running out to buy a new one...
