  • Windows XP Media Center Edition does not suport ipod nano...need programs

I was just informed by Apple Service that Windows XP Media Center does not support ipod nano, but that there are online programs available that would allow me to use my ipod with Windows XP Media Center. Does anyone know of these porgrams?? If so, could you recommend a website? Thanks!

was just informed by Apple Service that Windows XP Media Center does not support ipod nano
    Correct. Sort of.
Windows Media Center is not a computer. Just as Mac OS is not a computer. It is a operating system. (a version of Windows XP).
You have a PC with Windows XP Media Center.
You cannot use Windows Media Center OS to load the iPod.
You need to load iTunes to manage the iPod.
And yes, you can use the iPod Nano on Windows XP Media Center.

  • Cannot open ipod nano 6 file in my computer

When trying open ipod nano 6 file in windows my computer windows cannot file metadata_never_index.  How is the file opened?

I had this same problem after my nano crashed today. I hooked my nano up to my laptop and restored it, but after that iTunes still wouldn't recognize the nano. My computer opened the nano showing the file "METADATA_NEVER_INDEX File". I tried to open it and it asked me to choose a program to open it with, so I selected iTunes (becasue I thought maybe it had lost iTunes and that's why it wouldn't work). Now that I see your comment, I think I may have really messed things up here....
Since doing all that I have reinstalled iTunes on my laptop and my nano has synced and is playing music ok, but if I open it on my computer it still shows that metadata_never_index file as an iTunes program. Do I have to reset something in my nano to unattach that file from the iTunes program or should it be ok? I'm also wondering if I should just restore my nano again - would that set it back to the unidentified file setting? Like I said, the nano seems to be playing ok, so maybe it's nothing to worry about. My system is Windows XP.
    Hope you can help!

Try restarting your device. If that doesn't work, take it to an Apple store. If it is less than a year old and just stopped working, they will replace it for free (be sure to back it up to iTunes first). If you dropped it, you will have to pay because Apple will not replace a device due to "Human Error." If it is more than a year old, you will either have to pay to get it fixed, or have to pay to get it replaced.

  • File size of Notes on iPod nano?

    Hello,
my question is about the file size of notes to be handled by the iPod nano.
I have copied several ASCII text-files into the Notes folder of my iPod nano. Each has a size of approx. 20 kByte. Windows Explorer shows them in the iPod Notes folder with their original size.
However, when opening one of the text files on the iPod nano, text is only displayed until approx. 700 words (approx. 4000 characters), which corresponds to approx. 4 kByte. The larger rest of the file is not displayed, as if it was cut.
    Is this an error?
Or is 4 kByte the max. size of text files which can be displayed as notes on the iPod nano?
I have updated the iPod nano firmware recently with release 1.1.
Thanks in advance for any help!

There is an online utility for doing this - will save you tons of time AND adds links so you go from one section of the larger file to the next:
    http://www.ambience.sk/ipod-ebook-creator/ipod-book-notes-text-conversion.php
Until they inprove the file size that the iPods can read, this is your only real way to use your iPod as an ebook reader.

  • Windows not reading ipod nano?!?!?!?!

when i plug in my ipod nano into my computer, the computer screen freezes for a while, then the error message, "ipod has been detected, but cannot be identified properly, please unplug and try again" comes up. i have 'unplugged' numerous times, and the same error message comes up. the ipod is not detected by itunes, and just automatically ejects itself.

I am assuming that you have Administrator privileges on your system. If not, you will need them.
Hit Ctrl-Alt-Del, then T to open the Task Manager.
    Click on the Processes tab.
Scroll down until you see iPodService.exe.
Click on it to highlight it.
Click on End Process at the lower right corner of the box.
Congratulations, you've just stopped the IPod service.

  • Itunes will not read Ipod Nano...

I just got an Ipod Nano for my Windows XP Dell Inspiron 8500. Installed the latest version of Itunes 5... and any 'latest' updated for Ipod software. (uninstalled/reinstalled SEVERAL times)
Everytime I open ITunes, I get a message saying:
"The software required for communicating with the iPod is not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes to install the iPod's software." ...
SO I did that .. didnt work.. then I went to the Apple site and followed step by step instructions to possibly correct this problem... I followed ALL instructions and I still get the error message. My computer , windows explorer, detects the ipod fine.. but Itunes just cant read it... any ideas or help on this one?? Im about to pull my hair out.
    thanks!

my advice is to uninstall EVERYTHING you downloaded, this includes iTunes 5 as well as anything else (eg iPod Updater), reboot as prompted to a clean state. Then install just the software that came with your nano on the CD. There's software on the CD that cannot be downloaded. Provided this works, and iTunes 4.9 can recognise the nano, THEN you can install iTunes 5.0 and whatever else you want.

I bought a used ipod nano. They did not restore to factory settings. I plug in the nano, itunes opens up, and recognizes ipod nano. Problem accures when I try to open nano it will show a screen that itunes has stopped working and needs to shutdown. I figure I need to restore the nano to factory settings but I am unabl to if I can't get into it.

    Hey there Joseph1602,
It sounds like your iTunes application is quitting unexpectedly when you connect the phone and try to sync. I would recommend either of these 2 articles depending on the version of Windows you are using.

  • Mac does not recognise ipod nano.

i am using nano for 8 months already.
it had little problems till this day, and just resetting the nano would help to solve the recognising problems arised in the time being whatsoever.
but this time i have an exclamation point on a folder on the screen, and it won't go away.
when i try to connect the nano to my mac, it sees nano as a random hd (namely "apple ipod media"), but does not recognise it as "ipod nano" which we love and cherish when we automatically see it on dt and itunes if it's connected to our macs.
a pop up comes to my screen when i connect nano to mac, i press initalize, and it opens disc utility. the program doesn't help me for restoring the ipod.
using ipod updater as a restoring tool doesn't work neither (obviously).
    ...help?

    Try this:
    Windows 8.1, 64bit
It appears that the 64bit install messed up the device drivers for the Apple mobilie devices connecting as USB.
I tried many things, I may have missed a step below.  But the following is what I believe was the fix - since it worked on a 2nd PC.
Make sure you are using an administrator account.  Any of them on your machine will do for the following
    a) Get Windows to restart the drivers:
        - disconnect your USB device and close ITunes
        - connect your USB device
        - if ITunes loads, close it.
    b) File explorer:
Open File explorer and browse to
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers
In that folder there should be a set of files named "usbaapl64...."
right click on the one ending in "INF"
    Select Install.  It's very quick.
    remove the USB device
    c) Restart the computer.
When you login again, load ITunes before you attach your USB device.

  • Itunes does not recongnize Ipod Nano

I received a new Ipod (3rd gen Nano), my computer (runs vista) recognizes the Ipod (attempts to install drivers, which fail) but my Itunes will not. I connected my Ipod to an older computer (runs XP) and it worked fine. I want to know how to fix this problem. And yes I have looked into the support page for the Ipod Nano 3rd gen.

You say your computer recognizes the iPod... You also say the driver installs fail... Tell me if this happens to you:
You plug the iPod in for the first time, and it says it found a new device (Apple iPod), but after that, it gives the "USB Device Not Recognized" bubble, and the computer continuously registers the iPod as being disconnected and reconnected?

  • IPod Updater does not recognize iPod Nano

I installed the iTunes while charging my new iPod Nano 4GB from my USB port. iPod worked and was recognized during this process. After successfull ejecting and disconnecting I got the 'Folder icon with an exclamation point' in the iPod display. I followed the Apple hint on their www.apple.com/support/ipod homepage and downloaded the latest software iPod Updater (2006-06-28) and updated from 1.1 to iPod nano 1.2. In this process the Updater ended with saying that the software was updated, but that I had to wait for the iPod to quit/release the process, and it never did. It says 'Do not disconnect'. After ½ a day of waiting I had to disconnect it anyway. I thaught of 'Restore' the factory software but now Updater will not even see my iPod when I connect it. The Updater freezes and I have to 'End Process' from the Task Manager. iPod display keeps saying 'Do not disconnect' and shows a small 'sun' in the upper left corner with 'sunbeams rotating around the sun'. Can't find this symbol anywhere. Can't eject the iPod by software from neither the iTunes nor the 'Safely remove hardware' utility. When I pull out the plug from the iPod it resets and shows the Apple log and prompts me for selecting a language. The iPod 'About' panel shows that I have updated to software 1.2
I tried to follow this link down to the 'Remove iTunes' point, but no success sofar:

I have the same problem after update to sw 1.2.
And I have successfully get it back to normal by re-format the iPod-drive.
If you see windows recognise the iPod-drive. Try to re-format it (use FAT32). If you are success to reformat it, Ipod updater will recognise it and you can now do a 'Restore' to create the file structure back again for the Ipod-drive.
I continue to use the updated sw, v1.2. And hope it does not cause more problem as this one.

  • Windows not installing iPod nano 3G

When i plugged in my iPod nano 3G for the first time the "Found New Hardware Device' bubble came up and it recognized that it was an Apple iPod, but then it said that there was a problem with installing the new device and that it might not work properly. After this I cant see my ipod in My Computer or in iTunes. Under the hardware profile it shows an exclamation mark symbol next to the ipod. I've tried uninstalling it and reinstalling it but that doesn't work either. I just repeats the same process. I've tried updating the driver but it says it can't find an updated driver. The real strange thing is that I have an iPod Video 5G that has been working with this computer for 2 years now. So why wont the Nano?
So after i got fed up with this, I plugged my ipod Nano into my laptop and it worked flawlessly. But all of my music is on my desktop which is why i need it to connect. Any help?

This is the same problem I'm having & no other USB devices are hooked up to my laptop, can anybody HELP??????????
Before I install iTunes Vista recognizes my iPod, it shows up in My Computer and I can use it as a storage device. In Device Manager it shows up under disk drives as an iPod and under USB controllers as a mass storage device. After I install iTunes it loads new drivers, or it tries to. It installs a new iPod USB driver & then it tries to install iPod drivers and never finds them. It tells me the device drivers were not found & I can't use the device until they are loaded. Now the iPod won't even show up in My Computer. When I check Device Manager there is an entry for the iPod with an exclamation mark beside it & under USB controllers it is now listed as an iPod USB device. When I uninstall iTunes it still won't recognize the device properly but if I do a system restore, back to before I loaded iTunes, and then plug the iPod back in it goes back to recognizing it in My Computer as an iPod storage device and under Device Manager it checks out OK. I think the problem is with the new device drivers iTunes installs. When installed iTunes will start up no problem, it's just when I plug in the iPod it loads the problem drivers & I have to do a system restore to get my iPod back again. Please help, I've had to do a system restore 5 times now & it still won't work. I can either have an iPod loaded or iTunes load, just not both at the same time. I'm very familiar with computers & software but this is driving me crazy
BTW, my iPod is a new 3rd generation Nano
