Not opening links from mail - firefox turns grey at bottom

firefox usually opens links from "mail" in a new tab. Sometimes
firefox greys out and will not allow links to open. Clearing history
or restarting firefox solves the problem somettimes. Multiple restarts
may be required.

I suggest you to file a bug report regarding this issue: https://bugreport.apple.com/
I can confirm that Safari has serious issues with opening links from other applications. For example Content Guide links in Quicktime Player opens empty windows.

  • Safari not opening in landscape mode when opening links from mail

    Hello,
Since the update to iOS8 I experience following: when using my iphone in landscape mode, opening links from the default mail app doesn't open Safari in landscape mode. I have to manually tilt the phone to portrait mode and back to get landscape mode.
When opening Safari manually in landscape mode, it works fine.
    Anybody else experiencing this issue?

    Hey there streatuac,
It sounds like the Safari app is not automatically switching to landscape when you open a link from the mail app on your phone. I would start by closing all the running apps on your phone first:
iOS: Force an app to close
    Double-click the Home button.
Swipe left or right until you have located the app you wish to close.
Swipe the app up to close it.
When you have done that restart the device and test the issue again:
iOS: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Take care,
    Sterling

  • Firefox 3.6.15 on OSX 10.6.6 no longer opens links from Mail; Safari and Chrome will

Sometime around version 3.6.12 firefox, when set as the default browser, won't open links from Mac Mail. The firefox window will come to the front, but the link won't open. If I set Safari or Chrome as the default browser, they work.

    The following worked for me:
    http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/684867
"Problem: I had the same problem but with mac osx 10.5.8, Firefox 3.6.6 sometimes prints and sometimes does not, but the preview was always blank and I could not save to pdf file.
Solution: I downloaded Firefox 3.5.10, installed it on my desktop and opened it, tried print preview and it worked, quit Firefox 3.5.10 and ran 3.6.6 and voila! print preview is working fine and I can save to pdf fine.
I guess running 3.5.10 fixes the profile in a certain way. I have no idea how that happened but it worked."

  • Firefox does not open links from google

I am using Firefox 12 on a Mac. I am not able to open links from Google, e.g. google maps, google groups. Also google maps does not show up on other websites. Safari does this all.
I have disabled all add-ons and went into the safe mode of Firefox. No improvement. I can't open google maps or google groups. Apart from this, other webpages don't cause a problem.
    What is going on?

Have a look and see if SPDY is enabled. Enter about:config in the address window and spdy in the search window. If "network.http.spdy.enabled" is true, double click on the entry to disable it.

  • Safari will not open link from email

When trying to open a link from an email in Postbox (3.0.11) Safari 8 (OS X 10.10) will open a new tab, but nothing else happens. The new tab remains blank and the address bar is blank. This occurs when Safari is set as the default browser.
When I set Chrome as my default browser, Chrome will open the same link without any issues.
Any ideas or is this an undocumented feature for the new Safari.

    System: iMac 7,1 (late 2007)
    OS X 10.10
    Safari 8.0

Uninstall SIMBL as follows. Back up all data before making any changes.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it, then copy the text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
    /Library
    In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V, then press return. A folder will open. From that folder, delete the items listed below (some may be absent.) You may be prompted for your administrator login password.
              Application Support/SIMBL
              InputManagers/SIMBL
              LaunchAgents/net.culater.SIMBL.Agent.plist
              LaunchAgents/net.infinite-labs.SIMBLEnablerForSandboxedApps.plist
              ScriptingAdditions/SIMBL.osax
Log out and log back in.
Make sure you never reinstall SIMBL. It’s likely to come bundled with another third-party system modfication that depends on it. If you want trouble-free computing, avoid software that makes miraculous changes to other software, especially built-in applications. The only real exception to that rule is Safari extensions, which are mostly safe, and are easy to get rid of when they don’t work. SIMBL and its dependents are not Safari extensions.

  • E61 Open Link from Mail launches wrong browser

    Hi,
I've just noticed that, when following a web link from within an email received on my POP3 account, the phone lauches the basic web browser (i.e. the 'Services' application) rather than the more advanced 'Web' application - surely the page should be opened in the new clever browser with mini-map etc.??
This may be just another T-Mobile only issue - my details below:
    1.0610.04.04
    19-04-06
    RM-89
    Any feedback appreciated,
    Cheers,

    Thanks P,
Seems ridiculous really - there must be a way to configure which application is launched, just its not accessible to us plebs!
I'm really starting to wish I'd bought a windows based phone, while the E61 is very good in many ways, I'm getting fed up with all th faults I keep coming across... especially when some of these are so basic.
Given we've now had >4 years of Series 60 based phones, should we still be seeing these sillies?

  • Windows 7 PC will not open links from PDF docs or other things outside browser since update

Just finished update on 9/8 on one pc and 9/9 on the other. This has happened on two PCs now, both running Windows 7 one is 32-bit and one is 64-bit. When clicking on a link in a PDF it will give an error message and will not open in Firefox. Also clicking on "Launch Dropbox website" will not work. Anybody know what's causing this and how to fix it?

Make sure you have a local installation of a PDF reader available. I recommend against using the Adobe software and going to oldversion.com to download an earlier version of Foxit reader (I recommend with going something before the 3.4 version to avoid the annoying Ask.com adware that's associated with newer versions of Foxit. After you've installed Foxit reader, download a PDF file and save it to your downloads folder, open up Windows explorer, right click on the pdf file, select "Open With", click the box that says "always open files of this type with this program", then select Foxit Reader. That should solve your problem.

  • How can I open links from mail in the background?

I receive a lot of digest emails with lots of links. I would like to be able to click all of the links in a given email, have Safari open those pages in the background, and then when I'm done selecting the links I can switch to Safari and read them all. It's a logical workflow for me: click all the links you want to read, THEN go read them.
But instead, every single time I click on a link it jumps to Safari, so I have to switch back to Mail, click on the next link (which again jumps to Safari), etc. NetNewsWire allows me to open all my links in the background so I can avoid all this switching back and forth--can Mail do the same thing?
Thanks in advance for any help ...
    --Bill

You should be able to Command-click on the link in Mail and have it open in the background.

  • Cannot Open Links from Mail / SMS

I upgraded my C7 to Belle now. Bad news: When I receive a mail or SMS that contains a link to a web page, I cannot open it. What happens is:
I first get a notification sying 'Loading'. Then, one or two seconds later, it says 'Loading failed. Please try again later'
I am not 100% sure if this started with Belle. I installed quite a few application after I upgraded to Belle, so maybe it's one of those that causes the problem.
What I did, of course, was to check
Application Settings > Default Applications > Browsing internet
That's set to 'Internet', which I believe is what it should be. (I also tried to reset everything there, still nothing.)
I really, really, really wouldn't want to wipe the whole phone, re-install belle, re-install all of the applications...
Is there a way to check what really gows wrong and fix it?

Can you connect to internet from native browser or other 3rd party browsers like opera?

  • Firefox won't open url links from mail

I don't know if this question has been asked yet, but I am having problems opening links from mail. I am using Firefox 3.5.3 and Snow Leopard. Every time I click on a link in my mail firefox opens to the homepage. Firefox will only link to the proper webpage if it is already opened. Does anyone know if there is a way to link directly to the webpage when firefox is not opened?
    Thanks

Same thing here. Although mine just doesn't do anything. Firefox is open, but no new tab is created at all. Clicking a link in Mail does seem to activate Firefox's menu, though.
I just switched to using Firefox a few days ago, because my Safari kept crashing. Since my work is entirely on the web, I had to switch to keep functioning (but that's another issue).

  • Firefox won't open links from Skype?

Windows 8.1 Pro (x64), Skype is the latest version for desktop 6.10.0.104, Firefox is the latest version (of writing this question) - 25 Stable.
When I click on link in Skype nothing happens! Firefox is set as default browser for all the supported file types. If I change the default browser to IE 11 and click on Skype link, the link opens in IE without a problem.
Setting back defaults for Firefox doesn't help. I tried reinstalling both Firefox and Skype without success.
Any ideas? It's very unpractical to copy every link and paste it.

    Hello,
Can you please confirm that the problem you are facing is different from the one reported earlier - [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/961242 Firefox not opening links from Skype].
Or is the issue that there is no activity when you click on a link from Skype. Do other links (say in Outlook / Word) open Firefox when you click them? We want to narrow this down to see if this is a Skype specific issue.
    Thank you
