Not possilbe to audition Multicam clips?

I filmed a how-to-style video with two cameras.  We ran through the how-to process a handful of times, knowing that in the edit we'd pick from the best parts.
I made the Multicam Clips from the two cameras, but sadly it doesn't seem like I can use the audition feature with multicam clips.
For example, i have the subjects intro line... I like take 2 and take 4...  I put take 2 in the timeline, then place take 4 over it, but "add to auditon" is greyed out.
Why can I not audition two multicam clips?  It seems to be an unnecessary limitation?  Hopefully I'm doing something wrong and there is an answer for this.
If not, am I sorry-out-of-luck and I won't be able to use the audition feature with multicam clips (I almost always am shooting 2 cameras on my projects).
Thanks!

You wouldn't have to move them around to audition- simply connect and disable the version you don't want and they can continue to live in the edit.
Depending on what you are doing, there still is some moving.  The method you describe is what I am doing now, which is basically how i would do it in FCP7 by just putting in on another video track and enabling/disabling the clip.
What that does NOT do is take advantage of the magnetic timeline.  The two clips you are auditioning are most likely going to be different lengths.  If you disable the clip in the main storyline, the remaining clips will not move to magnetically line up with the connected clip above it.  So if you are trying to audition it while seeing how it works in relation to the clip before it and after it, you will actually need to move the connected clip into the main storyline, and move the main storyline clip up as a connected clip.  You can't easily have "blank" parts in your main storyline so this process is actually MORE difficult that when doing it in FCP7.
That's what was so great about the audition feature.  Easily switch between your options and and the timeline adjusts.  And your other options are nicely hidden away in the audition and not diabled clips connected above it messy-ing it up.
Hopefully the next update will allow multicam clips to be added to auditions.

    Probably best if you could post screen shots of the Inspecror window in extended view with a couple of the clips you using for the 2 angles.
    If you have audio from both cameras and have identified them separately, the sync is usually pretty reliable.

    I've created my multicam clips with all cameras I need. They are in sync and they work in Viewer. I went to start my edit and I can't drag my selection to the Sequence. It won't do it. I've selected different angles and it won't budge. There's no error or anything it just won't let me drag it down. Thanks for any help.

  • Multiple clips do not sync, how do I manually create a multicam clip?

    I have selected two clips to use in a multicam clip. I created the multicam clip and it put the clips together sequentially instead of stacking them on top of the other. How can I create a sync point or is there some other way to get this accomplished?

  • Why is "Timecode" not available as an Angle Sync method when creating a Multicam Clip?

    I shoot on three cameras in XDCAM HD1080i60.
    They all have jammed timecode.
    I import (through XDCAM transfer, and then import the files through FCP X)
    I assign camera angles (1, 2 and 3) to the clips
    I attempt to make a multicam clip and use timecode as a sync method.
    I see this:
    Can't select timecode. What's the deal?
    Everything is up to date. Everything is local (though it was captured to a shared fiber drive and then copied to my iMac.) The clips all have the correct timecode embedded.

    Don't know. It appears for me. Are all the clips using the same kind of timecode.

  • How to replace a clip that is part of a multicam clip in FCPX 10.0.9

    I am having an issue with a project drifting out of sync in FCPX 10.0.9.  In the time line everything is in sync, however when I export a master .mov file the video drifts out of sync.  I believe this is because my main audio is an mp3 file.
    MY plan is to convert my mp3 audio to an AIFF file and replace it with the mp3 in my project.  The only problem is that this audio file was imported as part of an hour long musical performance and I took the part I needed  and made it a sub clip.  I then took the sub clip and made that part of a multicam clip.
    Is there anyway to replace this MP3 sub clip with my new AIFF file in the multicam clip?
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    never good practice to 'bundle' clips, sticking compounds into compounds... and in very rare cases needed/could be done 'better' using the tools 'n features FCPX offer....
    Why not simply adding the new audio to your project timeline and synch it?

  • I get "Modified File" message with AVCHD clips after making Multicam clip?

    First off, this is only happening to some of the AVCHD clips, and typically not the same ones each time. I've tried trashing the files and re-importing because some clips imported as camera files. There is no DCIM folder in the footage folder. I've re-linked, restared, thrown out ALL the footage, the events, the projects and stared from scratch. The fresh import seemed a-ok this morning until I made the multicam clip.
    I selected "create optimized media" and "create proxy media" when I imported. I'm currently transcoding today's offensive clip again, as fcpx seems to think that is possible. Perhaps that will fix it this time, but I've been stuck in a continual cycle of the clips working and then disappearing and being replaced by various red error mesages for the last few days so I'd like to figure out what is wrong with my workflow.
    I tried archiving the AVCHD files before importing to the event, but fcpx can't see the files on the computer, so I have to use the version on my external drive. I'm also bringing in AVCHD files from an SD card, but so far today those ones have been fine. The multicam contains a sound file and footage from four cameras: a canon DSLR, a Panasonic GH2, and two Sonycams that create AVCHD files.

    There's no automatic way to do this.  You'll have to Match Frame the clips into the Source Monitor, find the In/Out timecodes, then load the new clip with audio and go to those same timecodes to set In/Out points. and add just the audio to the sequence.

  • Multicam Clips in the Timeline and Image Stabilization

    I've got a multicam clip in my timeline that I would like to use image stabilization on. What I'd like to do is:
    double click on the clip which brings up the angle editor with the range and angle selected.
    press cmd-B to blade the clip
    turn on image stabilization.
    Unfortunately, step one doesn't work. I'm forced to open up the angle editor and manually skim and search for the desired angle and time range. It would be okay if the playhead in the angle editor was slaved to the one in the timeline. Then when you went into the angle editor you'd be right at the desired source material, but no, the two seem to be independant of each other. It makes performing the task much slower and more tedious. So much so I am convinced more experienced users are going to know a quicker way to do it.
    So, does anyone know an easier work-around for this?

    Thank you Tom and Luis, but I'm not with any of this. I can add a clip to the timeline or insert a clip into it via the "arrow tools". If I attempt to shorten the clip IN the timeline there is a blank space representing the amount trimmed from the clip.
    I want the next clip along to that I've trimmed to automatically move along the timeline albeit shortening the total project duration.
    Pressing "A" on the keyboard doesn't achieve this.
    I simply click on the clip in the timeline  to highlight it with the yellow margin. I then click on one "edge" with the arrows symbol and drag the edge inwards. This then leaves the space I do not want.
    As for "Preferences" when I click this under "Final Cut Pro" i see nothing either relevant to this problem or that I could trash.

  • Multicam Clip Audio Channel config greyed out

    I shot an interview with two cameras.  One of those cameras had the audio (lav on left, boom on right).  That audio was imported as a stereo track on import, the angles where multicamed, and the edit happened.
    Now I have a timeline with all my audio playing in stereo (lav on left boom on right).  I want to change from stereo to dual mono so I can audio mix properly, but when I select the multicam clip in the timeline, the channel configuation in the inspector lists it as stereo and the dual mono option is greyed out. (don't know why they won't let me change here)
    I can go back to the event and select the multicam clip there and change it to dual mono and it will also change in the timeline.  So that seems like a work around, but I can't select MULTIPLE multicam clips in the event and batch change the channel config to dual mono.  Says "selected clips are from different multicam clips."
    Am I going to have to select every single multicam clip individually in the event browswer and change the channel configuration on each one?

    As far as I understand it, you cannot switch a "container" clip like the multicam to dual mono since it contains a clip which is stereo inside it. This makes sense, as per se it is not the multicam that is stereo or not.
    You should make the change from stereo to dual mono in the actual AUDIO clip - either before creating the multicam, or after - in this case, after :-)
    Open the multicam clip in Angle Editor (control-click the clip in the timeline and choose "Open in Angle Editor").
    Now select the clip that contains the audio and make the change. Note that this WILL affect the relevant clip even outside the multicam.

  • Why can't I create a new multicam clip?

    Just getting started with FCP X (10.0.5).  I have imported from 3 cameras shot at the same time, but the clocks were not necessarily synchronized.
    I select multiple clips, and "Create new multicam clip" menu item is grayed out.  The only time it is available is if I select multiple clips from the same camera which were recorded one right after the other.  I have set camera angle on each clip, and set the "content created" field to approximately the same time. According to the help, they can be different frame rates, resolutions, etc and still be combined to multicam clip.

    OK I knew it was something simple.  The clips have to be in the same event.  Thought I had tried that but apparently not.  Found the answer in another discussion.  I couldn't find anywhere in the documentation that they had to be in the same event, and being new to FCP X wasn't sure the best way to organize multiple cameras.

  • Trouble with my Multicam clip

    I'm trying to synchornize my two camera shots using the multicam button.  All is well in making the clip; however, i notice then when the created multi cam clip is in the timeline it is displaying in a linear fasion with the second camera clips ahead of the first camera footage. In other words, nothing seems to be sychronized. Cameras footage is placed one after the other (not stacked)  If I double click on the clip nothing happens in showing the two clips (stacked) and they still remain all in one line. Very confusing.
    Could use some help!

    I've got everything synched  but my latest problem is trying to make a DVD from my multicam clip. I'm noticing that the secondary footage is not joined to the primary clip. When I join the two clips on one line only one camera is presented and the other camera edited footage does not read or register.
    I edited the multicam clip in the time line after double clicking from the clip board. I'm also noticing I cant work with titles very well with the two multicam clips in this mode and that when I try to make a copy and put it the two clips into a new project I get a notice that says the video properties of this clip are not recognized and when I click OK  the clips reverse themselves in the New Project time line when presenting themselves. I'm stuck in multicam clip mode and don't know how to get to the next step in which I can move on from the synchronization.
    Sometimes I think it would be quicker to manually edit these clips.

  • Multicam Clip - Nudging Selected Clip Moves Unselected Clips

    Been having problems now for a while with on several projects when I need to manually align clips in a Multicam Clip. For instance when creating the Multicam Clip FCPX doesn't get some of the clips aligned 100% correctly. When I attempt to select a particular clip and nudge it it starts moving all the clips to the right of the selected clip. Suddenly I find the multicam is a complete mess and have to start again. I have to constantly fine work arounds because of this. It's driving me crazy and making what would be a very quick process with the help of FCPX audio align feature a huge nightmare.
    Anyone else come across this. It doesn't happen all the time. And I've haven't been able to single out what starts causing it. It doesn't seem to be linked to a particular type of clip as it happens on many different formats such as 4K, 1080, mov, avchd etc.
    I've shown this to Apple technical support on several occasions and they were not sure what is causing it, but did witness it themselves. I do believe this to be a bug and it's driving me crazy because it's wasting so much of my time. After spending hours finding work arounds and manually readjusting clips again and again, I would actually get this done much faster doing it 100% manually like I used to do in Adobe Premier CS6. Or perhaps use Adobe Premier CC which has audio align?

    Thanks for the trying Luis. Much appreciated.
    It must be something in my footage or some combination of something I'm doing.
    Looks like I'm going to have to spend some time trouble shooting this to figure out what's causing it if other people aren't having the same issue. Apple was unable to reproduce it also.
    Ya, the position tool is selected. I don't think it has anything to do with how I'm manipulation the footage itself. It has to be some weird combination of events together causing this. I'm wondering if it's something in the GH4 footage. I thought it may be only happening when I have GH4 4K footage mixed with 1080 but yesterday I had a multicam clip with only 1080 and it was happening.
    Or it's something specific to my laptop and FCPX.
    I'm going to make a quick demo video and post it for reference. Maybe someone can see something I'm doing wrong or at least show what I'm doing so someone can try to reproduce it.

  • One set of clips won't sync when trying to create a Multicam clip

    I am trying to create a multicam clip using one long audio track, several clips from one camera and several clips from another camera. All three have audio recorded from the same shoot. One camera angle successfully synchronises with the audio track, placing the clips in the correct positions and leaving blank spaces where I don't have a clip. The other set of clips do not sync. It puts them in order by not synchronised. I have named camera angles and camera in the meta fields. Can anyone help? The camera which seems to sync ok was a canon XA10 the camera which doesn't is a canon 60D. The 60D took its audio teach from the linear PCM recorder I used for the Audio track. (It's still a little noisy in case anyone wants to know why I'm still using the PCM track). Can anyone help? I tried to call apple but seemingly they won't help unless I get an error message.

    You could probably generate the content of the end file
    separately, before including it in the final file to be accessed by
    the user.
    You could do this using CFSAVECONTENT
    <cfquery name="getprinthtml" datasource="#dsn#">
    SELECT abstractDirectory
    FROM Abstract_tbl
    WHERE (Abstract_ID IN (#url.abslist#))
    </cfquery>
    <cfsavecontent variable="theBody">
    <cfoutput query="getprinthtml">
    <cfinclude
    template="/uploads/#getprinthtml.abstractDirectory#/#getprinthtml.abstractDirectory#_prin t.html">
    <hr>
    </cfoutput>
    </cfsavecontent>
    then use
    theBody as a variable containing the entire contents at one
    time when you generate the final Word doc so it does not have to
    run any looping at that time.
    Other than that, is there any chance the query is really only
    picking up one row based on the cirteria ?
