Not quite sure what the problem is need major help

My sister has a Terca 8000, and god only knows how old it is. The laptop screen is black and the phrase "Insert system disk" keeps popping up. I have tried to install different programs, but it will not do anything. As soon as you put in the disk it runs a couple of minutes then stops, and nothing happens. Can someone please help us.

That means it isn't finding the operating system.    Can you tell us more about exactly what "programs" you tried and give more details.
Do you have the factory recovery discs?

  • Confusing battery trouble after water spill.  Not quite sure what the problem is but would rather not have to pay for diagnosis.

    Hello there!
So a few weeks ago now I made a schoolboy error and spilt a small amount of water over my 2009 macbook pro while it was closed.  It wouldn't wake up when I opened it so I decided to try and open it up, although it took me forever to find a screwdriver small enough to get the back off.  When I finally managed to take a look, there was a small amount of moisture on the battery.  I left it to dry for a day or so, although probably not as long as I should have done and then when I tried to boot it up again it worked!
    However!
Since its been working again, the battery has permenantly said that it's 'not charging' although often it does seem to charge in spite of this.  I had thought / hoped that this might be fixable simply by replacing the battery, but I dont want to spend a load of money on a battery, should there be more to the problem than this.  Also I have noticed that the battery says 'replace soon', rather than 'replace now' which makes me wonder if the problem could in fact be something do with the logic board instead.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I could do next?  Of course I would like to be able to fix it and have a normal working battery again, but failing that, some insight as to where the problem might lie would be extremely helpful.
Here is all the battery info, which doesnt really mean much to me, but may be of some use.  Many thanks to anyone who helps!

Do you know how easy it would be to just take the battery out......
That depends on your MacBook Pro variant, which we don't yet know (don't know your OSX version either). Different variants and screen sizes have different battery specs. If you need to find out your model before replying, you can enter your serial number in this Apple web page:
    Check Service & Support Coverage
And it will translate to a model. If that doesn't work (I'm having to give options here because I don;t know your OS version):
    1) For Mac OSX 10.7 "Lion" and later, do "About this Mac" and, in the resulting window, press the "More Info..." button to get this:
The red arrow I added indicates your model and screen size.
    2) For Mac OS 10.4 through 10.6, do the same except the "More Info..." button will bring up this screen:
Again my red arrow poiints to pertinent data. Please post that code BUT not any serial numbers. With these OS versions you need to provide the screen size separately, either 13, 15 or 17 inch.
Once you've gone to this trouble it is a very good idea to add it to your equipment line in your forum profile so helpers don't ahve to go through this again for future questions. See my equip line below for an example of enough info to get fast help.

First guess is that you are trying to use a file within the trusted environment and that will fail with obscure messages like the only mentioned.
Another thing could be that you are using a path relatively, note that probably won't work.
Hope these comments help you a bit, if not, include more details ;)

My iphone 5 seems to be stuck in the horizontal view when I'm in the message mode.  In all other views I can turn the phone 90 degrees and horizontal to vertical works fine.  Not sure what the problem is.

    I found a solution!
Perhaps this is just temporary, but I have my display up and working again.
Although the symptoms are different were a bit different, the solution here worked:
    http://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/120259/grey-screen-after-login-blue-scr een-of-death-from-cmdr
As I was able to connect to my HD via an external monitor, in the finder, I went to:
    1. Macintosh HD --> System --> Library --> Extensions
    2. From there I moved all of the files that started with ADM and ATI (19 in total for me) to a folder on my desktop. (You will need to enter your admin password for this)
    3. Next was a restart.
    4. Then my display started working again.
    5. After that, I transferred the files back into my Extensions folder.
    6. I then did another restart with my fingers crossed and breath held. It worked.
Also... During the last few days of trying to find a fix, I restored a Mavericks backup to my computer away from Yosemite.
I'm very sure this problem occurred when I put my MBP to sleep, disconnected the power in its sleep, while something was connected to a USB port and unplugging the USB device (for me an iPhone charger) while the MBP was closed.
I hope this helps the next person.

I have always heard that Macs are less likely to get infected with a virus.  My computer has been running much slower since I installed Maverick.  Just not sure what the problem might be.  Is there a way for me to run a diagnosis?

Some have found relief just by reinstalling, but it is more than likely incompatible third-party applications that slow it down.
You will have to investigate to see what it is.
Open Activity Monitor and see if anything is using a lot of CPU% or Memory. If they are, check to see if there is an update for them.
Another place to look is the Console. See if anything is logging repeating messages with throttling and/or respawn in the All Messages list.
Sometimes it is not that easy to root out the problems, but if you have anything that purported to clean, protect, optimize, maintain, or flush your system, then that is likely the cause.

  • Not quite sure what I'm doing wrong.

As the topic states, not quite sure what I'm doing wrong here. I'm doing a problem for a class and maybe you guys could help me out, or point me in the right direction. The question states:
"Write a program that reads in investment amount, annual interest rate, and number of years, and displays the future investment value using the following formula: "

String stringInvestmentAmount = JOptionPane("Please Enter An Investment Amount");What is this line trying to do? If you are trying to create a JOptionPane object and pass that String to the constructor then you need the new keyword. If you are trying to call a method of the JOptionPane class then it would be a good idea to include the method name. I sure you are trrying to do the second option.
Once you fix that, it is likely the other errors will disappear. Or different ones will emerge.

  • HELP --Not sure what the Problem is Port, Firewall or OTHER.

I'm pretty sure the problem is with *MY MacBook Pro* itself or a Port or Firewall setting. I'm just not sure. I tested it on my Son's Mac and it works fine when I log in using HIS Mac I have no problems at all using my account on His Mac.
Here is my problem for Posting in here. When ever I sign into my RedBox account I get the following ERROR.>>> " The page at http://www.redbox.com says:The Google Maps API server rejected your request because you do not have permission to use this service over SSL." I've contacted RedBox directly and they say it's my Mac. Got any ideals or do you need more info. ? Using either Browser FireFox or Safari give me same problem. I don't see anywhere where RedBox is denied access to my computer.

My Question has been fixed / Resolved. Here is the answer. In FireFox 4.0 now under tools, Add-ons and *_IF you have HTTPS Everywhere_* Which I do then you will have to open the HTTPS Preferences box and remove check mark from Google API save or exit and restart Firefox problem fixed. I found out how to fix this from HTTPS Everywhere's own web page under Contact us. Thanks to them my problem was fixed. I guess no one uses https as a safety back up on there browser. I do.

  • Error in flash code....not sure what the problem is

I'm very new to flash so I'm not sure where my problem is or how to fix it.
    Any idea's??
    Thanks...

Pat's right.. But it also sounds like you probably should go back and do some AS3 basics.   learning how to understand the errors is an important (though frustrating) part of the problem.
My personal recommendation is Colin Moock's book "Essential ActionScript 3.0"
Also try my friend and coworker Trevor's genious site: http://www.senocular.com/
Now, that said, you're using some API that's looking for a button to talk to a movie clip.  Go back and look at what type of symbols your script is trying to talk to.

  • When I connect my iPAD to my PC it no longer automatically opens the IPAD device window to allow me to sync. It works ok for my iPOD so not sure what the problem is?.

When I connect my iPAD to my PC it no longer opens it at  as device in itunes.
This has worked in the past.
I don't have problems with my old iPOD. That is recognised and syncs ok.
Also, the PC recognises the iPAD as a drive  so I'm not sure why it doesn't open it in itunes... Very frustrating.

Thanks, this helped. THere was a new version of iTunes I downloaded to my PC and now the iPad is recognized.
The problem now is that I get the message that I cannot backup my iPad as my PC is not authorised, even though when I click to authorize it says my PC is already authorized.
I will click through the forum to see if there is an answert to this.

  • Internet running slowly, videos not playing well, everything slowing down. Wifi signal is strong, not sure what the problem is. Help please.

I have had my mac since December of this year. Suddenly it will not play video with stopping every few seconds to load, and my internet is running slower even though the connection is fine and everythiny else in the house on wifi is working well. Whats the issue?

Run this web based browser scan, it will tell you in red and provide a link to the download page.

Also another great free program is OnyX, just run everything, cleans your machine out on a system level.
You can cancel the reboot to run another cleaning section, just make sure you reboot at the end before using the computer.

Also use the Firefox web browser, it's insanely faster, the fasest of all browsers. The choice of Add-ons is numerous, personalization is just awesome. Everything can be changed, moved around etc. Persona's, themes etc. Just insane.
Not only that, Firefox is for Windows, OS X and Linux, the same browser on all.

  • Not sure WHAT the problem is exactly. . .

Okay, so here is the situation. I go through Qwest for our wireless internet service. The router for our service is upstairs in our two-story house. We have a few different electronic devices running off of the internet at any given time, including 2 iMac G5's, an Intel Based MacBook, a Wii, and a PC Laptop that my father uses downstairs occasionally.
Well, it SEEMS like our internet service is the most reliable when all but one device is turned off. What i mean by this is that our internet seems to be the most reliable when there is only one computer on at a time. Otherwise, when either my brother and I are using the internet simultaneously, or my computer is on and i get online with the Macbook, the internet will frequently cut in and out every 5 minutes.
We have contacted Qwest and had our router changed 3 times, and still we have the same results. I dont want to go through the hassle of a 4th router, and I thought it may have something to do with the computers themselves. What could be the problem? Are the macs running on some same frequency or something that could be causing the issue? Any help is deeply appreciated, for this problem is severely annoying.
Any information will be given if asked for.
    Thanks! ^^

"the internet will frequently cut in and out every 5 minutes."
TIP: Set your email client to check for emails every 5 minutes. This will "trick" your ISP into thinking that you are not idle.
