Not reaching new internet speed wireless

Just switched to 50/25 but can only reach max of 25/25 wireless...wired it hit over 50 easy....do I need different network card or settings or something?

With 802.11n, in order to get more than 54Mbps, you have to either use no encryption or WPA2. To reach the maximum potential throughput, WPA2 with AES is required. I had this issue when I got a new router and noticed the speeds weren't nearly as fast as what it claimed, but as soon as I switched to AES I got 300Mbps link speed rather than topping out at 144 (not enough for 75Mbps FiOS). The Actiontec router doesn't seem to have an option to select AES or no AES, so as long as you pick WPA2 you should be fine.

Hi, this has worked for a few...
Make a New Location, Using network locations in Mac OS X ...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2712
    10.7…
System Preferences>Network, top of window>Locations>Edit Locations, little plus icon, give it a name.
    10.5.x/10.6.x/10.7.x instructions...
System Preferences>Network, click on the little gear at the bottom next to the + & - icons, (unlock lock first if locked), choose Set Service Order.
The interface that connects to the Internet should be dragged to the top of the list.
Instead of joining your Network from the list, click the WiFi icon at the top, and click join other network. Fill in everything as needed.
For 10.5/10.6, System Preferences>Network, unlock the lock if need be, highlight the Interface you use to connect to Internet, click on the advanced button, click on the DNS tab, click on the little plus icon, then add these numbers...
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
    Click OK.
    Also, turn off IPv6:
    System Preferences » Network » AirPort » TCP/IP tab » Configure IPv6
    Or whatever Interface you use.

  • DVD burner not reaching maximum write speed

I have a PowerMac G4, and have purchased an internal PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-112D. After contacting the manufacturer and discovering what media to use, all fingers point towards VERBATIM. The drive writes DVD's at 18x speed. I have purchased 16x DVD-R media from Verbatim.
I have NEVER been able to reach a write speed ABOVE 8x! What is wrong? Anyone else have this issue??

Older Macs, such as the G4 quicksilver, were designed when the fastest DVD drives were only 2X, and use a slow ATA bus for the optical drive. The only way to get more than 8X is to use a faster bus for the DVD drive, such as one of the other ATA busses in a G4 MDD, or a PCI controller card. If you do that, though, the optical drive may not be bootable, and the Eject key may not work.
My previous Mac was a G4 Quicksilver, upgraded with a Pioneer 110 drive (16X). It would not burn faster than 8x. The Mac Pro with a Pioneer 112 will burn at 16X. With a Pioneer 115 it will burn at 20X (with Verbatim DVD-R 16X media).

  • Not getting advertised internet speed

It's been about 2 weeks since this problem started happening and I can't fix it no matter what I do. I'm currently on the Blast Plus package which should give me 105 Mbps down and 10 Mbps up, but I'm getting no where near that anymore. I used to hit 110 Mbps down normally and I'd check it weekly since I use my internet a lot. I'm very OCD about it. Just recently I started noticing netflix start to freeze up and lag when this never happened before. I did a speedtest and my internet maxed out at 22 Mbps. Now why would this be? Nothing has changed in my account or computer. There's only one phone and one laptop on this WiFi servicw, and my main PC connected by ethernet which is what I did the test on. I go on facebook or youtube and they take forever to open and once open the pictures won't load. Anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this?

We have not ever gotten what we paid for.  we are suppose to get 105 download speed.  We are lucky if we get over 10 download (tested on different days and all different times of day) The problem started as soon as we upgraded to the faster speed about 2 years ago.  call comcast on numerous occassions and have to WAIT FOREVER. THey make you go through all the stuff on your end.  Then they schedule time. Someone comes out gets it to work for a while like a day or two. Then  you call again and its like they want to start all over with test at home then send someone.   Then eventually you get so fed up spending so much time that you give up and then a few months later try it again.   It wasn't until a few months ago that some tech realized we NEVER were supplied the right equipment to handle the upgraded speed.  Although comcast had no problem charging us for it all this time.  Well we still have problems.  Today my tests have gotten above 10 ONCE.  We turn off devises etc.  Son even uses ethernet connection 100%  and he has problem.  So sick of this.  The thought of going through the process of being put on hold being told to go through their trouble shoot thing to either have them say we are going to try things from here and so you wait and wait with limited and shortlived success-the process is exhuasting.   Looking into other providers.

What Alain is saying is that you have two subnets listed in your switch. The comcast modem may support static routes, but it may only support natting it's primary IP address that's configured on its lan. For example, from your config I assume that vlan 3 is the vlan that the comcast modem is configured as. If you were to change the lan side ip address on the modem to vlan 2, your vlan 2 would be able to get out, but vlan 3 would not. The only way that I can see getting around this is to get a router, or ASA, and put it between your comcast modem and switch. Have the public address passed to the router/ASA and then you can do your natting on that device.

  • Iphone 6+ not reaching max wifi speed

I have a iphone 6+ with EE. My fibre optic I supplied by Virgin Media at 120mbps. This speed is almost always reached on www.speedtest.net on my PC. But my iPhone 6+ has only ever got 50mbps max. I have a SuperHub2 and I'm using the 5Ghz connection for wifi on the iPhone. I was under the impression that 802.11ac could reach 120mbps.

iPhone 6 can connect at 433.3 Mbps on 802.11ac. Look in your router and see what it is connecting at.  I have pulled as much as 271 mbps on speedtest while connected to 5ghz 80mhz channel width. Not sure what your router is capable of but take a look there.

  • OSX Server connects to router but dos not reach the internet

Sorry that i have no answer, but i'd like to add my problem as well.
I have a OSX Server witch is configured to an Airport Extreme. It is connected to the Router and dos all the sharing on the local network. But same as you describe it dos not connect to the Internet.
I checked my firewall options and it is set to allow all traffic.
I can ping the router but i don't get pings from pages on www !?
If anyone has an Idea where else i might look, i would be grateful for all advice..
Please drop me a mail on tj{at}daemgen.net
If anyone has a solution to the problem i will send an coupon for an Starbucks coffee in addition to my appreciation and thanks as i am looking since quite a while by now and it doesn't seem that i see what might cause the problem !!

There really isn't enough data to answer your question directly, but there are some things to check.
Being able to ping or serve data to the local network just means that the server has a working network connection, so that's a start, but to get to external sites it needs two things - first, a valid DNS server address that it can use to lookup hostnames, and it needs to know the address of the router on the network that provides an internet connection.
In this case you should check System Preferences -> Network -> Ethernet -> Advanced and check the TCP/IP settings - make sure the Router (or 'Gateway') address is set to the address of your Airport Extreme. Then check the DNS setting to make sure you have a valid DNS server set.
If those are correct then you'll need to post back with more data, specifically what you do see/get when you try to access remote sites. What error messages do you get?
Oh, and while ping might be a good basic test, it isn't absolute - in other words, ping could fail, even when you can connect to a remote server, since pings could be blocked by a firewall or router at either end of the network.

  • My itunes will not reconize my internet connection (wireless)

    I need serious help here!!!!
I am trying to "restore" my ipod and it tells me that i need to connect to the internet when i already have a connection

I'm having the same problem (iTunes says it can't connect to internet to restore), in my case a Mac formatted video iPod on a PC. I found the article Jeff posted 6/17/07 (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=304468) and went through it steps, only to discover that my connections were fine (I can browse the iTunes store, use email, etc.). So there must be another problem and solution. Anyone know what it is? Thanks in advance!

  • Some dhcp clients not reaching internet

This afternoon, I noticed that my iPhone was no longer reaching the internet. Later, we noticed my husband's (new!) iPad and my son's MacBook were not reaching the internet either. At least my MacBook was still reaching the internet. In all cases, the connectivity with the airport was fine; 4-5 bars, most of the time. All were connected yesterday, I believe. We made no real changes. I had my iPhone right next to my MacBook and both had good connections to the wifi, but only the MacBook was reaching the Internet.
I went into Airport Utility and looked at the Time Capsule and found a long list under DHCP clients (maybe 9), but only 4 on the wireless clients list. I researched the issue, finding very little except generic suggestions (update software and reset the Time Capsule). The software was up to date; resetting it did fix the problem, at least for now. I am concerned it will happen again.
    Our airport devices:
    - Time Capsule running 7.5.2
    - 2 Airport Expresses, also running 7.5.2.
Most, if not all, our wifi devices are up to date, including my MacBook running 10.6.5 and my iPhone running 4.2.1.

I'm not sure this is quite the same since simply restarting our Time Capsule fixed things for us. It is annoying since I don't want to have to restart the Time Capsule every week or so when it fails this way, but restarted did fix this, at least temporarily.
Another possibility I came across is that an ISP might limit the number of devices you can connect to the Time Capsule, but that wasn't the case for us. I'm thinking the Apple person you talked to probably checked on this, though.
Hope you can figure it out!

Bought 4th Gen 3TB TC - streaming TV over the internet is now so slow and now is constantly buffering.  It seems the Airport Utility is always 'searching for new networks' - don't know if this is the problem.  It's not the internet speed as checked that.  I took my old router upstairs and was streaming TV via my ipad seamlessly - the same program via the TC was constantly buffering.
I just expected to be able to plug in the TC, so a simple set-up and experience wireless both upstairs and downstairs in my house.  For some reason the range is low and speed veru disappointing.
I am far from being an IT expert but I would welcome advice about setting up this TC so we can enjoy the product as it was designed.  Please HELP!

No silver bullet........but my suggestions may drive you in the right direction.
    1.  Unplug the power cable from the TC and wait 10-15 minutes before powering back up.   Seriously wait!
Proceed to #2 if this dosen't help.
    2.  Unplug the power cable from the TC, ubplug the power cable from your Broadband Modem (assuming it's a cable modem), disconnect ethernet, and cable from modem.
2a.  Wait 10-15 minutes then re-connect cable, ethernet, and power back to modem (your modem should power up unless you have a power switch)  wait for all the modem lights to come on EXCEPT activity.
2b.  Connect ethernet from modem to TC, and plug in the power cable to TC.
Proceed to #3 if this dosen't help.
    3.  Reconfigure the TC.........Read here........http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3728
All really simple to do....if you need additional help let me (us) know.

  • Verizon's new FiOS GigE Wireless N Router and High Speed Internet

So I got a deal in the mail to get an upgrade to [50/25] Mbps Internet (I currently have [15/5]...when I was reviewing it on line this message came up...
Verizon will provide up to [50/25] Mbps Internet with a wired connection. If you use your Internet primarily for wireless or WiFi connections, you have the option to upgrade to Verizon's new FiOS GigE Wireless N Router which will maximize your speed delivered through your wireless connection.
Upon completion of your order, you'll be provided with information for purchasing a router at Verizon's online equipment and accessories store.
I am VERY interested in getting super fast internet...my current internet is really good but it wouldnt hurt to bump it up.  I have several devices using internet in the home...most of them wireless (including my PS3).  I currently use a Verizon Actiontec router.
So here is my question...do I really need to get the above router to take advantage of that [50/25]? Also one other thing...My house is fairly large and I would really like to have two routers...is it possible to use two routers or a setup to have one upstairs and another downstairs?
Thanks in advance for the answers!
    -Jest

There are a lot of variables that affect wireless range.
Walls, interference, other networks in the area, etc.
You don't indicate which older Actiontec you have.
Wireless capabilities also vary by Actiontec hardware revision (A,C,D,E,F,G,I).
In general, wireless range for 802.11n is somewhat less than 802.11g, even though the bandwidth is higher.
This is especially true on the 5Ghz band (which the latest Actiontec doesn;t support).
If you only need another 10 feet, you could try moving the router, or replacing the antenna with a high gain antenna.
