Not reading cd or dvds

computer spitting discs out after I put them in

If that doesn't work, then I'd take it to the Apple repair place and get it replaced.

  • Tecra M5: DVD drive does not read these mini DVDs

I have canon dvd handycam, and mini dvd works on it. One month back i recorded movie and pictures on mini dvd using handycam and ran mini dvd on my tecra M5 dvd drive, it worked very fine.
Now after 1 month i have 5 mini dvds with movies and pictures which i took on 1 month vacation in diffierent countries, i tried my best but tecra dvd drive does not read these mini dvd, cd drive label appears instead dvd drive when i put mini dvd in it.
All other standard size dvds, cds working fine on it.Its complicated and as well as irritating.
    Any suggestions?
    Why its messedup?

Seems the lens cannot read this miniDVDs. Possibly the drive lens cannot calibrate and therefore the miniDVDs are nonreadable.
Try the solution from sascha. Maybe youre a lucky man and it works.
If not, try to remove the drive physically from the notebook. Reboot the notebook without the drive. The Windows and BIOS shouldnt recognize the drive.
Then shuts down again, put the drive into the notebook and boot up the unit.
The notebook should recognize the drive and should indicate the firmware again.
Im not sure if this will help you but its attemptable

  • MBP Optical Drive not reading cds or dvds + LaunchDaemons not in Library

    Late 2008 MBP, 4gb, ram 2.66ghz, Mountain Lion 10.8.4
Hey this is my first time using this forum but I'm not computer illiterate so please don't waste my time!
My optical (disk) drive in my Late 2008 MBP is not reading dvds or cds.
I repaired disk permissions to no avail.
I had read another thread on this issue saying I could opene my library to see if i could find and delete  com.WD.WDDDriveServices.plist. which I had seen had worked for others who had had a 1tb WD external drive and had had their disk drives stop working because of this. However, when I went into my library the LaunchDaemons folder which was supposed to contain this erroneous file LaunchDaemons was not even there! Is LaunchDaemons called something else on Mountain Lion or what? I went through all my plist files and could not locate com.WD.WDDDriveServices.plist. anywhere! It is my hope that if i can find and delete this file that I may be able to reboot and have a working disk drive again!
    (note)
I could play DVDs but not CDs up until I upgraded to mountain lion 10.8.4, but after the mountian lion upgrade now even DVDs won't work.
Can anybody help me resolve this issue with the Missing LaunchDaemons folder, or have another suggestion beyond repairing disk permissions or deleting com.WD.WDDDriveServices.plist.  to make my optical drive work
I am hoping can resolve the main issue at hand which is my optical drive, but also any help on locating LaunchDaemons would be appreciated.
(I know there has been a few threads on this topic, believe me I've practically read them all, for most repairing disk permissions worked, for others who had a wd 1tb external hard drive (like me) deleting com.WD.WDDDriveServices.plist. worked, but that isn't an option at this moment since i cant even find LaunchDaemons in my Library lol.
    PS.
Please don't be a smartass and say get a new optical drive, I know my MBP is old but I think the problem is not really with the hardware but rather with this absent LaunchDaemons folder.
    Thanks in advance.

Likely not. Your next step is a call to AppleCare or a visit to a repair center.

  • IMac running Lion will not read windows 7 dvd

    Hello-
I am currently trying to partition a part of my hard drive to run Windows 7. I open boot camp assistant and get all the way to where it says "install", I insert the windows 7 dvd and my imac spins it then spits it back out. I have tried several different things yet the results are all the same. I thought the drive may be bad so I tried a normal dvd and a cd, both read fine. I then tried an apple install dvd (lion) and the imac could not read that disc. So the problem seems to be that my computer just can't read install or data dvd's. Has anyone else had this issue?

If you want to run MS Windows Simultaneously with OS X you can buy either Parallels or VMWare Fusion. Follow the installation instructions for the app you choose, both do the same thing. There are several advatages of using Parallels or Fusion including:
    1. Running OS X & Windows simultaneously
    2. You can run Windows XP, Vista and/or Windows 7
You can also use Boot Camp which comes with OS X to run Windows 7. The downside is you can only run one operating system at a time, either MS Windows or OS X. If you are a Windows gamer this is the best option for 3D gaming. In order to install follow the instructions in Boot Camp Assistant, you can find BCA in Applications - Utilities - Boot Camp Assistant and then follow the on-screen instructions.

but it does not read all of the video only a few frames from the begining.
I have tried Pinnacle V15 and it has a similar issue.
The optical drive is a blue-ray - dvd drive, so I tried a dvd-writer drive USB 2.0 attached and it also fails.

    Hi,
Copy the videos on the desktop and then try to play the videos again.

  • Imac will not read cd or dvd in optical drive

When loading a DVD I get the following message "A valid device could not be found for playback [-70017]
I have tried to read a DVd perviously viewed on this machine  and it is not showing on the finder window.
If I open Disc Utilities I can see the disc correctly displayed.
    Any suggestions

I had the same problem on my iMac. I followed the instructions at http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2020977, (Klaus1)
i.e. I used the disk utility to restore file permissions and - after a restart - it solved the problem.

  • DVD Player not reading CD or DVD

I have a Satellite A665-56093 laptop, and the DVD/CD player was working, and now it won't read CD's or DVD's. The model  on the drive (according to device manager) is TSSTcorp CDDVDW TS-L633Y.
When I put a CD or DVD in you can hear the computer trying to read it, but then after a minute or so, it just ejects and asks for a valid disc. I can see that the drive exists in Windows Explorer, but can not see the contents of the disc.
It appears that a data disc (software install) is read fine.  I tried updating the drivers for the Drive, but it says that they are up to date.
Any Ideas? I am just stuck...

Anyone find a fix to the tsstcorp TS-L633Y reading only 1 out of 3 DVD movies during the past 2 months? I've searched high and low, but can't find a fix. It spins the movie and kicks it out asking for a valid disk. I uninstalled the driver, reinstalled, and nothing. I've Googled and googled, but nothing comes up to help me sort this problem out. The Redbox DVD's work in my sister's HP laptop. It's a Samsung problem in my Toshiba notebook as it's a Samsung drive with Korean electronics not being fully perfected yet to the Japanese level of perfection in my experience. The player seems to be find and plays some DVD's and all CD's. I didn't notice the problem until I started renting Redbox back in late January. I thought for a while the DVD's were requiring validation that they were valid copies, but that's not the case. It's some kind of software problem, but the system says the device is working fine.
    Eludes me????

  • Macbook not reading my blank DVD to burn slideshow.

I created a project in iDVD and now I want to burn it onto a DVD but when I feed the DVD into the slot, it comes right back out. Why is this happening? I've tried changing all the settings, etc..

Assuming you have an S-Drive and not a combo drive, suggest you first burn a disc image from the file menu w/in iDVD and then use apple's disc utilities / toast to lower the burn speed to 2x or lower. Use Verbatim or Maxell DVD-R only for troubleshooting on this forum. (Please do not use Memorex while troubleshooting this issue).

  • CD's are not read / recognised but DVD's are?

I'm trying to burn a CD for a theatre production here at school and when I insert a blank CD into my optical drive, it spins up and then powers down with no evidence on OSX that I did anything. I can do the same thing with a blank DVD and it mounts just fine.
    What's the deal? Thanks!
I'm fairly savvy with my machine so go ahead and ask me any questions you have.

    check out my faq* http://www.macmaps.com/cdrfailure.html
if that does not help, get the lens cleaned at an authorized service center if under warranty, or through a store cleaner that meets the specs for your drive.

    Hi
I recently bought a macbook pro laptop from ebay, the cd, dvd rom doesn't read any cd or dvd. ejects it after a few second. your help is much appreciated.

Help us help. What model laptop? What operating system (XP or Vista). Do you have software to play the music CD or DVD? Do you have all the drivers installed? Obviously the drive works because you used it to install the operating system, right?

  • Not Reading Or Writting DVD's

I have a PowerBook G4 1.67Ghz with a MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-846 superdrive. I just recently bought a Memorex 8x DVD+R. When I place a blank DVD in, my mac doesn't read it. It doesn't show up on the desktop. When I try using Toast7 i get an error message. Anyone know what I can do?
     Powerbook G4 1.67 high res, 30GB iPod 5G    Mac OS X (10.4.5)   iMac G4

Try different media. I always recommend using Verbatim or Apple branded media when you have problem to rule out the possibility that it's media related.

  • MBP not reading CDs or DVDs under Windows/Bootcamp

Well after searching the net, talking on the phone to Apple for near an hour, and visiting a licensed repair shop, I still have no idea whats causing this problem.
Basically I bought Windows XP SP2 and installed it on a partition last August. Everything worked fine, then I upgraded to SP3 to enable it to run GTA4. Since then, it has refused to read any CDs or DVDs, although they ALL work fine in the Mac partition. As I didn't need discs to run the programs I had installed, I lived with it until yesterday, when I decided to reinstall Windows, giving it a bigger partition. The first part of the process went without a problem, however when it booted up in Windows and asked to reinsert the disc to continue with the install, it did what it had been doing before, and refused to read the disc. (it was the same disc I had used originally - thought I'd throw that in there).
So now I'm stuck with a half installed Windows partition with no way of getting ahead. I have updated my firmware, upgraded to 10.5.8 from 7, done a hardware check, and nothing has changed. The fact that no one seems to know what is going on doesn't help! Has no one else had this problem? Would really appreciate some help!

    Hi Joey
    Reset the iMac's SMC > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1543
then restart with PRAM and NVRAM > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
    and test the Disc Drive.
The early white Intel iMac models had 17, 20 and 24" display sizes and the aluminum Intel iMac models only come in 20 and 24" display sizes?
