  • ITunes not reading iPod Classic?

    Hello, it's me again.
This time, I plugged my iPod in. iTunes is working this time. However, it's not reading my iPod. My computer recognizes it, my iPod recognizes my computer but iTunes isn't picking it up.
    Any ideas?

There's rather a lot of different things that can cause that, E. The following document is probably the best place to start:

  • Windows not reading ipod nano?!?!?!?!

when i plug in my ipod nano into my computer, the computer screen freezes for a while, then the error message, "ipod has been detected, but cannot be identified properly, please unplug and try again" comes up. i have 'unplugged' numerous times, and the same error message comes up. the ipod is not detected by itunes, and just automatically ejects itself.

I am assuming that you have Administrator privileges on your system. If not, you will need them.
Hit Ctrl-Alt-Del, then T to open the Task Manager.
    Click on the Processes tab.
Scroll down until you see iPodService.exe.
Click on it to highlight it.
Click on End Process at the lower right corner of the box.
Congratulations, you've just stopped the IPod service.

  • Itunes will not read Ipod Nano...

I just got an Ipod Nano for my Windows XP Dell Inspiron 8500. Installed the latest version of Itunes 5... and any 'latest' updated for Ipod software. (uninstalled/reinstalled SEVERAL times)
Everytime I open ITunes, I get a message saying:
"The software required for communicating with the iPod is not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes to install the iPod's software." ...
SO I did that .. didnt work.. then I went to the Apple site and followed step by step instructions to possibly correct this problem... I followed ALL instructions and I still get the error message. My computer , windows explorer, detects the ipod fine.. but Itunes just cant read it... any ideas or help on this one?? Im about to pull my hair out.
    thanks!

my advice is to uninstall EVERYTHING you downloaded, this includes iTunes 5 as well as anything else (eg iPod Updater), reboot as prompted to a clean state. Then install just the software that came with your nano on the CD. There's software on the CD that cannot be downloaded. Provided this works, and iTunes 4.9 can recognise the nano, THEN you can install iTunes 5.0 and whatever else you want.

  • Itunes not reading ipod

Did some research, and it seems that the newest version of itunes 9 isn't letting my ipod to be read by itunes. It's an old ipod somewhat, is there anyway to down grade the itunes back to 8 or 7 if possible? I would like to not have to reset everything.
    Thank you.

I had the same problem. After reading some other posts I found the solution for now is removing itunes 9 and reinstalling iTunes 8.2.1 for G3. Open applications, remove the itunes app, also remove it from your dock. Open Finder, click Music, open itunes folder and move album artwork folder and itunes music folder to your desktop, delete all other files, librarygenius.itdb, library extras.itdb, music library.xml, and itunes library by moving them to trash and emptying. Don't worry once you download 8.2.1 for G3, http://support.apple.com/kb/DL857, and install it they will reappear. Reinstall 8.2.1, when install is done, open Itunes, go to Preferences, click the Advanced tab and uncheck "copy files when adding to itunes music folder". Now, open Music in Finder, open itunes and take your album artwork folder and itunes music folder from your desktop and place them back in the itunes folder in Music. Go to itunes, file, add to library and add the itunes music folder and your music will upload without creating duplicates. Once the adding is complete, lastly connect your Ipod and it should appear. Hopefully, this isn't difficult for you to understand but it worked for me.
Just a side note and this might not be necessary but I did it anyway; I opened up Finder and searched for any file that was connected to itunes and removed them all except for my artwork folder and itunes music folder. I tried uninstalling 9 and reinstalling 8.2.1 the way it is suggested in previous post and after I completed the process and I went to open up itunes, I got the error message "could not open because itunes was installed with a newer version". That is when I decided I will clean my mac of any files related to itunes, except for artwork and music, download 8.2.1, do a completely new install. Good luck.

  • Itunes not reading ipod mini

My husbands ipod mini was syncing earlier but then he "updated" it and now itunes doesn't recgonize it, So I reset the sync history and it still didn't read it. when I plug it in on the screen of his ipod it says do not disconnect yet itunes isn't doing anything to it! I reset it and it didn't do it. It worked fine before the update. Please help...

Okay, so i was readin through other discussions and i found this tip {"try resetting the iPod while it's connected to the computer: hold down the Menu and Select buttons until you see the Apple logo. This will often get it recognized." by Mark Jone3. it worked for me, so hopefully it will for everyone else too!

    Hi Beck-MCS,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions
Do you have all your music still on your computer? This is important to know. If you do, you are going to want to restore your iPod (Knowledge Base Document #60983 on Restoring iPod to factory settings). You may want to try resetting it first though (Knowledge Base Document #61705 on How to Reset iPod).

  • Computer not reading ipod at all

i bought my nano like a month ago... i connected my nano to the computer and all the songs went on it... a week later though i got a message saying i needed to upgrade so i did and in the middle of the upgrading process it froze and all my songs were deleted from the ipod now when i try to connect it itunes doesn't read it and when i try to open 'my computer' it freezes. i've tried resetting the nano and i even tried using another computer but the same thing happens can anybody help?

Disconnect the iPod and close the iPod updater and iTunes. then try again. If it doesn't work, then close both again, and push CtrlAltDel and end the iTunesHelper.exe and iPodservice.exe processes. I'm sure you did this first, but just doublecheck no file are running off the iPod.

  • Need Help, iTunes not reading iPod.

I have had this 160GB iPod since October of 07 and it has worked perfectly...until last night...it just stopped playing any of my songs and just kept on changing to the next song looking for one that would play.
I tried restoring it but I guess something happened while it was restoring and now iTunes won't freaking read it. I can't restore it again, I can't even get it too work with iTunes...
If anybody knows how to fix this...please tell me...

    Hey there,
Have you tried putting the iPod into Disk Mode and see if that helps? To put it into Disk Mode, hold the Menu and Select buttons until the Apple logo appears. When it does, immediately press and hold the Center an Play/Pause buttons until you see a confirmation that your iPod has been put into Disk Mode. If it does reappear, it would be a good idea to try and restore it again. Hope this helps.

  • Windows not reading iPOD

I have an IPOD shuffle and it was working fine with my PC until yesterday. Now none of my laptops can read what's on it. I've tried on multiple computers. Can someone help? Thanks in advance.

This appears to be a very common problem (at least from looking through all the posts here). I've spent two weeks trying things, and I'm just about at the point of concluding this is a design problem, and that there is no solution.
