Not receiving iCal alarm

My iCal alarms are being sent (I can see them in my sent folder in Mail), and they are showing up in my gmail account online. However, they aren't showing up in my inbox in Mail, and I'm not having trouble receiving any other emails.
What could be the problem?
Thanks.

Figured it out. Relaying was my problem. We have an internal SMTP
server that I should have been pointing to...All is working...

    Nate,
    Welcome to the Discussions.
A peculiarity of POP access with Gmail, is that you cannot send, with the gmail account, a message to yourself, and then have it download.
A Gmail account is a bit odd in its behavior. It is primarily designed to be used with web access, but does allow POP access. The server assumes that for POP access you only need to see what you have NOT read, and further assumes that downloading is the same as have read a message, and the same with a message from yourself. Because of this, you will not download message sent from someone else, on but one computer, without some manual intervention.

  • Some ical invitees not receiving invite!

some ical invitees not receiving invite! For some reason my husband will NOT receive ical invites that I send to him I have tried multiple troubleshooting methods and cannot figure this out. His email is hosted thru Gmail but not a '@gmail' address...meaning its a [email protected] but email is hosted through google mail.
Other people receive my invites just fine, but his just never make it to him.
Makes me wonder if others don't get my invitations either when I don't receive a response.
What is the issue here? Has anyone else found a solution?
Also, is there a way to receive notifications when somene DOES accept an invitaiton in a group invite? Its annoying to have to go check iCal all the time and check in to see who accepted. Would like to be able to be auto-notified one-by-one when people respond. Any suggestions here?
    Thx
    KS

    I'm having the same issues.
With school starting next week, I'm trying to get the family organized.
Just sent invites for an event to my husband and 2 sons.
Husband received his email at work and accepted. (Although iCal still has a "?" by his name and I never received an email that he has accepted) As for the boys, they never receive an email at all.
The idea was wonderful at first but now it makes me want to go back to crayons and paper.  :-P

  • ICal invites are not received by some people (I know why, but Apple won't fix it)

I switched to icloud a while back and have the maddening problem of SOME people not receiving invites, and have discovered what causes it (at least in my case):
If the user you are sending to has an itunes (or apple id) account with that email as the login (and that email is NOT an icloud email) they will never receive the iCal invite! Instead it gets routed to their (non setup) icloud account. If they start using icloud for their calendars with this same external email address as login, they will receive them there (directly on their calendar if it is setup). Apple refuses to forward it to their real email address, the one we are sending it to. I have reported it to Apple several times but they are not inclined to fix it, probably because they want to force external users to use icloud. This is mega frustrating. Many of my friends do not receive invites, forcing me to use Google calendar for events with those friends. I prefer the general interface and look of icloud/ical invites, but I need to be able to actually invite people!

Not for me, but let me verify the following type scenario with you:
    1. Your person to invite has a gmail address ([email protected])
    2. That gmail address is their Apple ID/iTunes login name (this is the most important piece)
    3. They may have some icloud service on (like note syncing) but do not use icloud calendaring or mail (or may have signed up for mail but never check it)
    4. Your icloud/ical invite arrives properly in their gmail inbox (at [email protected])?
Is all the above true? For me, the above scenario results in no email being received at the address I sent it to (number 4), it gets routed/lost in icloud if that is their Apple ID login.
Like I said, I do not have the issue you have, all my invites are received regardless of the email provider and user ID's I just send to the correct address and that's it. Frankly if what you said was common the service would be useless, but it works for millions. The problem is at your end, not everybody's.
The login name is just a text string to iCloud, not an address.

  • ICal Alarms not working in iPod

Around six months ago iCal alarms stopped working on my iPod.
They do not even show up when I view a To Do or Event on my iPod. This happened all of a sudden and I have never changed any settings other than installing standard updates. I cannot recall if it was around the same time as an update. I use iCal 2.0.5 (1069). I was using a 60G iPod when this occurred. My new 80G has the same problem.
Any ideas? I have searched everywhere(!) to no avail.
I am very keen to get this feature back. Any suggestions most welcome. Thanks in advance!
(This is my first post/question on here. I apologise if I have posted in the wrong place or asked a stupid question.)

Believe me when I saw I have tried everything! I am not technically minded though I have covered all bases. I am just anxious to get this great feature back. It just seems strange that I am the only one with issues. This happened with my 60G then right through to now. I am actually on my second 80G as the first's battery failed after a month.
Is it an issue with my Power Book? I seriously have not change any settings - EVER. Except for the standard updates.
Thanks again for your quick reply Anyone got any ideas?!

  • No Alarms Work/ical alarms not firing. I have a solution that worked for me

If anyone has had a look at this thread and still not found a solution...
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1215043&start=30&tstart=0
    try this (busycal)...
    http://www.busymac.com/index.html
I was having serious problems with my iCal alarms. They just weren't firing reliably, and I tried so many things to get it fixed. Nothing worked until I installed busycal. it's perfect! It's been totally rock solid for 20 or so days and I just purchased a full licence. Has very neat features like LAN sharing and google cal syncing. Even if it didn't need these features, I'd still use it because I rely on alarms firing, and busycal does it without issues. Support is also excellent (they email quickly, with accurate/helpful replies, and they've even made suggestions to me about settings I can change to make everything run more smoothly. amazing!) the quality of support, frequent updates and reliable alarms is worth the small registration price along!
and no, i don't work for them, i'm just a very happy user and hopefully it will help some other frustrated ical users out there!
    alex =)

try busycal support. they really are excellent and i'm sure they can help u work towards a solution. click "email support" in the busycal help menu.

  • MY iCal alarms do NOT work...

MY iCal alarms do NOT work since January 2009! Not during Leopard and not now in Snow Leopard. I have tried desperately to get my sounds back and checked ALL preferences for iCal. Anyone else have this problem and WHAT can I do about it? What is the "fix" for this stupid glitch???? 911...

+*MY iCal "Update" to those who might experience the same i-s-s-u-e of no alarms popping up and no sound either.+*
I did go to my Apple Sore and traipsed up to the Genius Bar with my 24" iMac... AFTER I made a reservation online of course. I do have that great little AppleCare Protection card.
The good news is that Brad, my genius, at the Apple Store Genius Bar fixed my problem! My iCal now pops up my alarms which I "hear" clearly and on time! *Problem fixed in 5 minutes. WOWZER!* He also told me the iCal problem wasn't my fault, there were some files he needed to delete in my library and cache folders and that the problem seemed to be just a glitch that shouldn't happen again. He didn't know why the files where there... they just were. Thank you, Geniuses at my Apple Store in the Millenia Mall, Orlando, Florida.
Problem in iCal solved. *So this is my story and I'm sticking to it. ;-)*

  • How to stop re-popping up old ical alarms, i.e. ical calender is not deletable, but keeps on coming back on screen after 30 secs.

hi, looks like I have a cache problem,
in ical I can't remove , delete a calendar. after 30 secs it comes back on screen. same happens with old , passed ical alarms.
i deleted the ical cache User/library/ical, however did not solve the problem

    >> then I get a completely blue screen.
That probably means that you're not looking at a bug in Photoshop, but a problem with a driver - and the most likely cause would be your video card driver.
And sure enough, your video card driver is almost 2 years out of date.
Please go to NVidia's website and get the latest driver - then follow their directions for installation (so you don't get bits of old driver left over).

  • Scripts and Workflows set as iCal alarms not functioning in Lion...

...or it could be becuase i am using a Beta version related to the Beta for iClloud and iOS5....I'm not 100% sure....
All I know is that I have scripts and workflows that used to work before the upgrade, they STILL work when I run them independantly using Script editor and Automator, but they do not run when the iCal alarm that they are tied to goes off.  Coem to think of it, the only way that i know those alrms are going off is that I get a notification on my synced iPhone that tells me they are going off.  - so i guess I really don't know if those alarms are working on my mac at home.
    any thoughts or help?

For me it's completely random. Some examples of what's happened to me...
    - I've set a new alarm (that I need to go off weekly) When I first set it it will pop up, but then the next week it will not. But then sometimes it will.
    - I also have an alarm to check woot.com everyday that NEVER goes off.
I don't know if anyone else is having this problem (or if it's related) but something else also started happening the same time I installed Leopard... Occasionaly whatever window in any program I'm working in will all of a sudden go inactive / ghosted so I'm not able to type, etc. I have to click on the window I was working in to make it active again.
The tech I talked to thought that perhaps a pop up alarm was popping up OFF screen and therefore causing the inactive window problem. But after erasing all the info in my iCal (that's right, EVERY appointment had to be reentered) I know for a fact that's not the problem.

  • Not receiving email notifications of iCal event invitations from other parties.

I am not receiving emails for iCal event invitations from other parties, but the invitations ARE in my iCal Inbox. I don't use iCal often, so I never proactively go in to check my Inbox there, but rather have always depended on receiving the email notification of an event invite to know to add it to my iCal. I can SEND invitations to others successfully with other parties receiving MY email notifications, I'm just not receiving them via email.
I've now missed two very important meetings because I never received the email invitations to add an event, which were the only forms of correspondence for both. Can anyone help me? Thank you!

  • How prevent iCal ALARM reminders popping up when not wanted?

Sometimes I don't want to see my alarm box popping up to remind me of things.
Suddenly, & frequently, the pesky iCal Alarm box pops up in the middle of the screen with another preset alarm reminder, insisting on my immediate attention. Like when I'm watching a video on my mac.
Then I've got to get up and move it out of the way, but as soon as I touch it, the video which I've set to full screen shrinks to small & I've got to click it to big again. This is just one of the inconveniences.
Please, how can I set the iCal alarm to give it a rest for a while and save those reminders for later
I've made lots of iCal alarms to remind me of things throughout the day. so these interruptions are a constant problem.
Q#2: Why doesn't my ALARM BOX show active the Yellow Button so I could relegate it to the side Dock? Or even the Green Button, so I could enlarge it when I want to see all my open reminders without scrolling?
Instead, My ical ALARM BOX only has the Red button, which closes it out and loses all those reminders therein until it's their time again.
Oh, dear, I don't think anybody can solve this problem.
    Or
    can

  • ICal alarm does not wake up mac

    Hi,
I'm trying to set up alarm in iCal to launch app at scheduled time. It works when the mac is up and running. But if mac was sleeping at the scheduled time, alarm is missed.
I've read from somewhere that the new iCal in Leopard is able to wake up mac from sleep. Is it negative?
    Thanks,
    ner

I don't believe it will wake the machine up. But what you can do is set a Wake time in the Energy Preferennces to wake the machine up a minute or two before the scheduled ical alarm.

  • Setting up Mail to send only (not receive)

    Hello all,
I currently use Mail to send/receive to/from my Gmail account, and Entourage for my work (MS Exchange).
I want to use iWork 09 and the functionality of sharing documents using iWork.com.
The email addresses that iWork uses (for notifications to someone you want to share a document with) comes from Mail. So if you have multiple accounts on Mail, you can choose which one the email will appear from.
Obviously for work documents, the emails need to come from my work email, not my personal Gmail address.
So is there a way to set up an account (using POP3 or IMAP) so that it ONLY sends, and does not receive email?
It is straightforward to set up a fully functional POP3 or IMAP account for my work email using Mail, but with over 2GB of mail on my Exchange account, I don't want to duplicate my whole Entourage emails...
Thus my need to be able to _send only_....
    Any pointers appreciated.

    Hey Steven,
Sorry for digging back in the archives for this one, but a while ago you solved the problem of a missing iCal alarm clock with the following solution...
Thank you. This has been bugging me for far too long, but you finally made me look to see what was wrong. Here's what I did that has fixed it on my machine.
(I probably should have quit iCal first, but forgot.)
    1) Navigate to iCal in your Applications folder.
    2) CTRL-Click on the iCal icon in the Applications folder.
    3) Select Show Package Contents
    4) Double click on the Contents folder
    5) Double Click on the Resources folder
    6) Double click on the icon for alarmclock.mov
A dialog box came up telling me that the movie requires Adobe Flash to play, which is disabled in QuickTime, and allowed me to enable it. I also had to select 'apply to all movies'
    7) Start iCal and test it. I had to restart iCal a couple of times, but that's probably related to my not remembering to quit the application before I started messing with its guts, and my failure to apply the change to all QuickTime movies.
    Good luck
    srb
Well I tried this without success... QuickTime opens alarmclock.mov, but it's still just a black square. Hope you may be able to help on this one... again!
    Cheers!

  • Calendar Server user can not receive external invites

    Hi,
We have a MacPro running ML Server 10.8.5 with 10 user accounts using the calendar and file server services.
Calendar server is where the issue is. We have 10 + users that are set up to send and receive external invites in calendar server without a problem. Recently, one of the user accounts stopped receiving external invites. The problem began not long after I set up a second account for the same user for their shared calendars (they requested this so all shared cals were not on their iOS devices). Although I used a separate email, it was an alias of the first so may have caused a conflict / problem (?). I got rid of the second account with no change to the first.
The account still receives invites from the other internal user accounts and the other services such as file sharing are unaffected. There are no other problems with the functionality of that user, in calendar or otherwise.
I have tried changing the email associated with that user account and setting up a new test user account (in Server). The email invite will still not come through.
I have changed it back to the way it was originally.
    Summary
One of 10 user accounts does not receive external invites
    Was working until recently
The account can send invites to external addresses
Same email address will not work even when associated with a different account
I have included a large section of the calendar error log from the part that references the email address (in red) attached to the user account in question. Apologies, I am not familiar with deciphering this information. That is why I've come here.
Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks.

Thanks so much for your comment ~morgen.
Sorry, I should have mentioned, that it what my first thought so I tested by ensuring the email address associated with the user account (not hosted on the server but by Google Apps) is recieving all other mail.
    I have also tried:
    - Setting all accounts (calendar, email and contact card with associated email address) in another local user on a defferent Mac. So it's not a local user or Mail app issue.
    - Sending invites from different Calendar apps and email accounts - iCloud, Gmail (both using Apple Calendar and the web interface).
That's why I came back around to thinking it must be calendar server related. However is there is absolutly no conntact with the server with incoming email invites I must be looking in the wrong place (and the wrong forum - sorry!).
Does anyone have any ideas where I should be focusing my efforts?
    Many thanks in advance.
