Not receiving mail at alias
In trying to straighten out my multiple apple ID's (one set up for icloud, and one that wasn't set up as an email address) something got botched and now my email alias are getting bounced back. Yet when I login to iCloud and check my aliases, it's still listed there. So why can't I actually send mail to it?
It's possible that her mail provider is blocking the connection as a security measure...it sees her device on 'alien' wifi and wonders if there's an issue. Or her mail provider may use protocols that the other wifi connections don't work with. Do they have webmail? For example, if you have cox cable, I believe you can go to cox.com and access your e-mail off the website. That may be an option for her
Sometimes using a work around is better than struggling to fix something you'll have to unfix when she gets home.

My mail account has been set up and working to send and receive mail for several months. All of a sudden I can not receive mail. The connection doctor shows all green lights. No changes have been made and nothing has been changed on preferences on IMAP and SMTP. I can send mail. My other accounts all send and receive mail. When you click on activity the list shows stop signs. All accounts show that they are online.
UPDATE:
I deleted all the messages off the server of the offending email address and everything works fine now. -
I am not receiving mail to one of my email accounts. I can send mail from this account and all other accounts seem to be working.
Is this work email account on a BES server?

If you have a rescue email address set up on your account then you can try going to https://appleid.apple.com/ and click 'Manage your Apple ID' on the right-hand side of that page and log into your account. Then click on 'Password and Security' on the left-hand side of that page and on the right-hand side you might see an option to send security question reset info to your rescue email address.
If you don't have a rescue email address set up then go to Express Lane and select 'iTunes' from the list of 'products' in the middle of the screen.
Then select 'iTunes Store', and on the next screen select 'Account Management'
Next choose 'iTunes Store Account Questions' or 'iTunes Store account security' (it appears to vary by country) and fill in that you'd like your security questions/answers reset.
You should get an email reply within about 24 hours (and check your Spam folder as well as your Inbox) -

Your best bet and least run-around will be to contact Apple support team. They'll kindly help you change your email ID and reset your password, thereby changing your security questions as well.

I`m trying to reset my icloud password but i`m not receiving mail with new password!
I have to iphones one iphone 4 and 5s. This Apple ID is for my Iphone 5s but on my Iphone 4 i haveApple ID account. It is not possible to send e-mail. The message in the screen is 'the connection with the outgoing server failed.
I checked al the options I received from my provider and everything is ok. Maybe inside of the Ipad the SSL is on.
I do not know how I can fix this problem.
I also do have the problem with my Iphone4.

I'm not using Gmail (rather iCloud), but I'm getting similar issues: there's no indication in Mail that it's not working (no spinning wheels, nothing greyed out); I only know it's not receiving mail properly because my iPhone or iPad have lots of mail coming in.
Like you, I have to quit and relaunch, BUT I can't even quit from the Mail app - I select quit, and the window disappears, but the little bubble never disappears at the bottom of the screen. I have to Force Quit from the Activity Monitor. If I do that, and then reopen, it works fine - for a while (maybe a day or two?).
The two problems - not receiving mail, and not being able to quit - seem related: they always come together. If I'm receiving mail, I can also quit properly. -

My iPhone is not receiving mail but the following messages continue to flash over and over at the bottom of the screen: "Checking for messages, Updated just now, Checking for messages", etc. After a minute or so it will flash downloading 1 - 32 messages but nothing is received and then the "Checking for Messages," etc. starts back again. I turned the phone off for 30+ minutes and also tried to reset it, but the problem continues. Any ideas on how to solve the problem?
Double click the home button and swipe up the messages app to stop it, then open the app again. This pretty much completely stops the process and freshly opens it again, resolving problems at times. I have had this happen before as well on my iPad, I get a banner, check messages, and nothing new is there.
If that doesn't work, close the app like suggested above, but then restart the phone by holding down the home and lock button for 10-15 seconds until the apple logo appears. -

For a .Mac type account, it will mark a message as read only in the Mail.app when the mailbox is synchronized with the server after messages are checked and read at the server using webmail access and if changed to a POP type account in Mail, any message that is available at the server will be downloaded by the Mail.app even after messages are read using webmail access.
Is mail storage calculated separately?
It is now. You can adjust - lower or raise the amount of server storage space alloted for the account.
