Not recognising JPEG format in Lightroom

Hi, I'm shooting using a combination of RAW and JPEG. Up until yesterday I had no problems importing files with this format. However I'm now unable to import any files from my my memory card because Lightroom is not picking up the JPEG, its picking up the NEF.
As a test I tried shooting in JPEG fine, normal and basic........it won't recognise these either.
I've tried old memory cards that I have previously imported..........same problem.
Is it my preferrences.........I don't remember changing anything..
Thanks.

Nobody can know. You have not provided any useful info like what version of LR, what camera, what system. Either way, ask in the LR forum and provide those critical details.

You could add Perian.  It may help (...or not).
Wait, you received and audio recording and you are trying to use a video player (vlc) to play it?  What kind of file is it?  Does it have a filename extension?  If it is .wmv then you might want to install Flip4Mac.  Then you could play it with QuickTime.

  • Imovie11 not playing jpegs modified with Lightroom 4.0

Created a short movie with combo of video and still images.  Plays fine until it comes to one of the photos I modified using Lightroom 4.0, saved as a jpeg, exported to desktop and imported into iPhoto to use with iMovie.  It's only a problem with the photos modified using Lightroom.  Any solutions for this?

Jim, I appreciate the feedback.   I believe the issue is as you stated- I need an update to the camera raw in cs4 in order to view the changes.   Unfortunately, I do not think is possible since adobe has decided not to support cs4 anymore.   My choices as far as I can tell are  1) read the lightroom file out as jpg which has the changes, 2) update to cs6 which probably has the correct camera raw version, or 3) do this cloud thing with adobe which is what they want you to do.    I like to print my photos in large format, 17X22 etc, and since my set up prints out nicely from cs4, and pretty much looks terrible from lightroom, I probably will just read out the jpg files and print them in cs4.   The reason I use lightroom is that it seems to correct highlights and such much more effectively than cs4.    Any thoughts would be welcomed.    mike

  • Iphoto not recognising jpeg file

I have a Sony Nex-5r camera.  Up until yesterday I could upload photos from camera to iphoto not a problem.  For no reason that I can pinpoint iphoto now comes up with a mesage stating that the files are not in a recognisable format and I can't transfer them from my camera.  I use a usb cable to conntect to my Mac.

It's a minor database glitch, so let's repair the existing library:
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Apple Preview does not recognize jpeg export from lightroom 4.1

When i open the pictures in DPP I can see them fine?
Here is the message I get:
"The file “Edit-739820120223Canon EOS 7D.jpg” could not be opened.
It may be damaged or use a file format that Preview doesn’t recognize."

I was having the same problem! I downloaded a free file converter called Graphic Converter through CNET. It worked perfectly and you can convert one JPG file or a batch. I'm not sure what the issue is but this is definitely the easiest solution. I recently upgraded to Mountain Lion. I think it has something to do with the upgrade and reading JPG files that may be formatted differently. What I don't understand is why Mountain Lion cant read the files. Nonetheless, this worked perfectly for me.
    Good Luck!!!

  • Do not recognise jpg format

i connected my nikon camera and iphoto will not import pictures. saying the jpr format is unrecognizable

jpr? I'm assuming that's a typo. Can you move them from your camera to a folder on the desktop? If so do they open in preview?

  • IPhoto 09: try to import pics from Nikon camera and tells me it does not recognise JPG format. Also if I double click an image in my library, screen goes black and program crashes. Any hints or fixes?

Does anyone know how to fix these?

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.

  • Apple TV not recognising video format?

Can anybody tell me why Apple TV will play a video file with the following specs
    H.264, 853 x 366, millions
    AAC, Stereo (L R) 48,000Khz
    FPS 23.98
    Data rate 1.57MB/sec

    AAC, Stereo (L R) 48,000 Khz
    FPS 23.98
    Data Rate 1.66MB/Sec
Both files converted using HandBrake as *.Mv4 files. Video specs from QuickTime Movie Inspector.
Any clues on how to get an informative error message out of the Apple TV also appreciated. My old XBOX 360 is starting to look attractive again as a media player!!

    Hi there Keryn62,
It sounds like you haven't changed anything, but you are unable to use Home Sharing between your Apple TV and your computer, even though you have verified that they are both signed into the same Apple ID. I would use the rest of the troubleshooting in the following article:

  • Pentax Super K100D RAW files not recognised by Lightroom

    Hi all
Have tried to import Pentax .PEF files (RAW format) into Adobe Lightroom and via Adobe Bridge...no luck. It works with JPEG files, but I don't WANT to shoot in JPEG format!
Have reformatted the camera memory card, have 90GB left on my HD to perform the import, and the camera, computer and software is all current and updated.
I downloaded RAW Developer, and lo and behold, IT recognises the files and works on the RAW files with no problem...so it's not the camera, or the computer.
Everything is operating on a Mac OSX 10.4.1 (we don't have Leopard in Australia yet).
    Any ideas/help appreciated.
FYI - I am operating Lightroom in TRIAL mode. Haven't purchased yet - and won't be until I can sort out this problem!

There's a list of the supported cameras here: http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshop/cameraraw.html
The 100D Super is new camera. There's always a delay between a new camera launch and Adobe providing support for the RAW profile.
You'll also see that OS X Tiger doesn't support it yet either: http://www.apple.com/aperture/raw/cameras.html.

    Hi,
I assume you mean the Nikon D810 because D800/800E support has been there since Lightroom 4.1
Currently, because it is a new camera (D810) the only support is in a RC of ACR 8.6 for Photoshop CS6 and CC, as the RC runs out on 31 August it is expected support will be there in the next dot release of Lightroom.
Current limitations are that only full sized NEF is supported.
If you wish to import to Lightroom 5.5. you will need to download the DNG Converter v8.6RC and convert the NEF files (full size RAW ony) to DNG then import into Lightroom 5.5

  • Iphoto will no longer recognize my camera, says it does not recognize the format....they are jpegs? And now it will not even open when I plug my Canon Eos Camera in to download. I have checked everything on the camera and it is working perfectly....

Iphoto will no longer open when attaching my Canon Eos Camera. I have checked the camera and everything is working perfecty. When I open it myself, Iphoto is working perfectly too. But now when I attach the camera, Iphoto no longer opens at all. Yesterday it did open after a really long wait but it kept saying that it did not recognize the "format" of the images....they were jpegs??? Then it flashed on and off and if I hit download at just the right second they would download. But today it won't work at all. Any suggestions.
    thanks

    As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

  • Itunes not recognising my ipod and windows asks me to format

Itunes is not recognising my Ipod when I connect to my PC.  I've been using it for 8 years so this is out of the blue.  I get this flashing up:
    "Microsoft Windows
You need to format the disc in Drive N before you can use it.  Do you want to format it?"
    Bottom right of my screen
Safely remove hardware and eject media gives me the option to "Eject Apple iPod USB device"
I did that and now find my iPod has wiped all my stored items and I've had to reset date etc.  Is this a Windows or an Apple problem?

I'm afraid I got so frustrated with the PC crashing that I threw in the towel and ordered an iPod touch this morning after tentatively syncing my mini iPad this first, with no problems, just in case it was the PC.  Iv'e changed it to wifi syncing now as a further precaution.
If I can get the Classic to work again I can at least try to sell it as a functioning model.

Lightroom 5.7.1, Yosemite OS X - Synchronise Folder function doesn't work in Lr.
Is there a compatibility issue? I can see the folders/images in Finder but when trying to synchronise folders in Lr it does not recognise that there are any images and therefore unable to import to catalogue. Anyone has any idea how to make it work. Thanks a lot.

    Hi Elba,
Thank you very much for your reply. Not sure, however, that we are talking about the same problem.
I am trying to perform the same function in Lr that I have been doing for many years in the past and has only been a problem in the last few days (possibly coinciding with upgrading to Yosemite, trying to find out whether that is the problem)
I am not intending to sync any files with Creative Cloud but only trying to use 'Synchronize Folder' function in Lr. Normally, I would right click on a particular folder in Lr catalogue and click on that function to check that the Lr Catalogue is perfectly matching my drives where the original photos are actually stored.
The problem that I only started to encounter is that I can see the files on the actual drives but they do not appear in my Lr Catalogue and they are completely invisible to Lr. I simply can not get Lr to recognise them and then import them to catalogue.
If for example, I export images to Ps and then save and close them, they do appear on my drive but are invisible to Lr and I can't get them imported into the catalogue. Import to folder also not producing any results as they are still invisible to Lr.
Completely baffled by it. Any idea what could be the reason?
    Kind regards,
    Nik

what is the best way to back up photos and videos to a dvd from iPhoto, not in iPhoto format but just in jpeg format to access on either windows or mac

When you export the videos out of iPhoto be sure to select Kind = Original.  Otherwise you'll just get an image file of the first frame of the video.

  • WD external harddisk not recognised after failed format

    Hi folks,
So I have an old WD 320GB harddisk I pulled from an old windows acer 5535 I wasn't using, I tried formatting it to OSX journaled so i could use it to back my friends mac up. The drive was initially readable and showed my windows 7 and files I had on there.
I left it to work for a couple of hours, when I came back it said it had failed. I have since read about the 'correct' way to format this drive.
The drive no longer shows up in disk utility or in system profiler under USB.
I'm plugging in using a USB SATA enclosure.
The mac I tried to format on is an old white unibody running 10.6.8, it's not recognised on my imac running 10.8.4.
The disk spins and the green light on the enclosure is lit.
Have I killed it or can I save it with some more powerful software?
    Cheers!
    Karl,

Yes i thought this too, problem is my old acer's GPU is problematic and will only work now and again, I think it needs re-flowing. I'll put the hard drive back and try to get it booted up and see what happens. I'm guessing it's no good now anyway after the mac tried to format it for a while.
    Will report back.
    Karl.
