Not recognize USB disks

My OLD Mini is crazy!
When I plug any Pendrive or External USB disk it is not reconized by OS X, even in USB Informations in System Information or in Disk Utilities app.
However, if I press ALT key in startup, every Pendrive or UDB disk is reconized.
AND if it is bootable... my Mini boots perfectly.
I already installed OS X from zero, and not solved.
Any other USB device works fine, like keyboards, mouse (even wireless USB mouse works).
Anybody has any idea about what could be happening? Thanx!!

Hello, yes that is very strange, but boot from your Install Disc & see if it shows up in DU.
"Try Disk Utility
1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at the top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
3. Click the First Aid tab.
4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
5. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."

  • Windows 7 repair will not recognize USB disk

I have a system image I created in Windows 7 that I want to restore to a partition on my iMac hard disk. It lives on an external USB drive.
However, when I boot Win7 in recovery mode from the DVD, it is unable to see the external USB disk. I assume this is because it needs the Windows boot camp drivers.
How can I make these available to the Windows recovery mode?

    I did, thanks.

  • After sleep, retina MacBook Pro (Mid 2014) does not recognize usb connected mouse movement

After sleep, retina MacBook Pro (Mid 2014, on 10.9.4) does not recognize usb connected mouse movement. I have tried a generic usb mouse and my Razer Deathadder usb mouse. Both mice work before sleep; but after sleep, the computer no longer recognizes mouse movement while still recognizing the mouse buttons when pressed. Any idea why this is occurring?

  • I've downloaded Windows 7 onto my USB drive and Boot Camp does not recognize the disk.

Following the Apple Support manual, I've initiated the creation of a partition and downloaded Windows 7 from Microsoft's online store to a USB disk.  When I attempt to initiate the creation of my partition to install Windows 7, I receive a notification that my installer disc could not be found.
    Thanks in advance!

  • Premiere Pro CS6 does not recognize USB PnP Sound device connected  to iMac OSX even when activated in Audio MIDI setup. The iMac(i-7 processor,16 GB)   is working with this USB device without any problem

Premiere Pro CS6 does not recognize the USB PnP Sound device in order to produce a commentary sound track. The USB device has been activated on the iMac OSX by using the Audio-MIDI-setup and is working correctly with the iMac. When opening > presets >audio hardware I can only select between >standard >out  integrated > digital input integrated >microphone integrated. USB PnP is not indicated at this place.
With the built-in microphone of the iMac I can produce the commentary sound track, but I would prefer a stand alone version for better quality.
Your help is highly appreciated. Thanks in advance, Annemarie!

I'm using a Logitech Webcam Pro 9000 (which has a microphone on the side). I have several other devices plugged into separate USB slots: a keyboard, a mouse, my iPhone, and a Roland keyboard midi controller.
I've considered that maybe the webcam/mic combo is the culprit. If USB doesn't work at a constant speed, that could very well be causing the issue! The sound begins to lag badly sometimes when it's working properly, so that there's a multisecond delay between speaking and hearing my voice repeated back over the mic which is another sign that something is wrong. I've also caught it making a strange electronic sound during its "hang" time once it stops taking sound input correctly.
Maybe I should try to use line-in and forgo USB altogether then. I think I'd need a preamp and some sort of converter for that since the Mac Mini lacks a powered mic jack. I'm only a newbie musician so I've never set up such a system but it might be a better solution in the long run.
I'll check to see if it hangs before or after my computer enters suspend mode, that's a good suggestion too. Thank you for your help!

  • MacBook does not recognize USB hard drive

    Hello,
I have a MacBook 10.5.8 and I have been using an external hard drive (Mobile Drive Clasic 2.5'' 80-GB USB-2.0) to keep saves of important files. It has been working fine until now but I have recently used the same USB drive on a Windows 7, which would often not allow me to eject it, so I did the unwise and simply plugged it off at any rate a few times. This did not appear to cause any problems - but when today I tried to copy one file from my desktop to the USB drive it seemed to lag, I hit cancel, I restarted the computer and since then the USB drive does not show up at all. I plugged it in my Mac to see if it was a Windows problem, but to my surprise it does not show up there either, not in the Finder (I have the box checked in my Preferences) and not even in Disk Utility.
Is it possible that the USB drive was damaged beyond repair and that I cannot retrieve the data? What could possibly be the problem? :/

If the drive used to work with both computers and now works with neither one of them, the fault is with the drive. If it is not showing up in Disk Utility that would suggest a hardware fault.
There are a number of data recovery services that are usually able to get data back off of even badly damaged hard drives, you might try working with one of them. DriveSavers is well thought of. They are not cheap though. You will want to decide how much that data is worth to you.
    Best of luck.

  • Desktop Manager does not recognize USB Connection

I have installed the Desktop Manager for MAC (v1.0.2) on my MacBook Pro Snow Leopard10.6.3.
When I connect my Storm 9520 the Mac OS recognizes the media storage drives in the 'Finder'.  I can copy files to and from the device media using 'Finder' but the Desktop Manager does not recognize that the device is plugged into the USB (yes I have tried both USB connectors).

I have an 8310, Macbook Pro running OSX 10.6 and the BB desktop v 1.0.2 build 8.  It recently stopped recognizing the USB connection as well.  I was able to sync my BB with the MAC but can no longer do so.  The MAC mounts the BB and I can access the SD card.  What gives here?

  • IMac does not recognize any disk at all

Hi, guys, here is something new, and I would appreciate if you can help me out!
I was watching a DVD on my iMac intel, and decided to play FIFA world cup for a while. So I booted my mac to Windows, while it's booting, I inserted FIFA world cup disk into the DVD driver as usual. However, the computer did not boot into Windows, instead it turned into black screen. I waited for a while, but nothing was happening, so I manually turned off the computer.
After, I restarted my computer, the DVD driver refused to recognize any disks (after inserting disks, the driver tries to read, and then ejects the disk). So I repaired the disk permissions, but nothing has improved. Then I verified the disk, the following massage came out:
    Volume Header needs minor repair
The volume The volume sh needs to be repaired.
Error: The underlying task reported failure on exit
    1 HFS volume checked
    Volume needs repair
So, I couldn't repair the disk, and I tried to repair it from my start up disk, but I couldn't, because the computer doesn't read the disk.
And now, my computer still can't read and recognize disks.
    Thanks indeed for your help

    Hi,
have a look with the 'Sytem Profiler' if there is the Disc Drive mentioned !
As for a solution you could try and do the System Update 10.4.8 again with using the combo update found here:
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macosx1048comboupdateintel.html
BUT, as with your Harddisc OSX partition still having to be repaired I'm not that sure if this a good idea.
You should try to make a backup at least of your important files and if you can try to find a friend with an external drive from which you can boot Mac.
Otherwise call Apple Care or go to the shop where you bought it for a repair as there is still the possibility that your Disc Drive itself is broken.
    Regards
    Stefan

  • Satellite L300D will not recognize USB Disc unless WLAN is disabled

I have a venerable Satellite L300D running Vista SP2. I also have a Fujitsu 40Gb SATA disk drive from my old laptop in a USB 2.0 caddy, with dual USB plugs to draw more current.
I can connect the USB caddy successfully to my Windows 7 laptop through a single USB plug on a USB 2.0 socket so I know it works.
On the Satellite L300D it sets up the Generic USB disc in device manager, but does not register the 2 disk partitions as filestore in Windows Explorer. In fact when you try and expand COMPUTER in explorer it times out.
I noticed that the WLAN (Realtek TL8187B) is on the same USB 2.0 Controller, so I disabled it. This switched off my Wireless, but immediately Windows Explorer fired into life and I could access the partitions (D: and G:) and could even run check disk (no fails) and defragment it. As soon as I ENABLE the WLAN driver the disc fails to register.
I have updated the Realtek drivers from the Toshiba web site, but I would like a solution that allows me to use the disc AND the WLAN at the same time.
    Anyone any ideas?

Thanks for getting back to me.
I use both USB drives and a Toshiba external HDD and SyncToy to backup my files - both without trouble. The Toshiba HDDworks fine today - in Device Manager it is recognised as "TOSHIBA External USB 3.0 USB Device" (even though I dont have USB 3.0 ports on my laptop) and is recognised by Partition manager as disc D:. The Disc caddy is recognised as "Generic USB Disk USB Device" - but not by Partition Manager - both use the same driver and hang off the same controller. The Caddy disc works fine on my other laptop (Windows 7) and once I've disabled the WLAN.
I had not done any specific driver downloads other than let Windows Update do its thing. It has taken me to Vista SP2 and I note that the "Standard Enhanced PCI to USB Host Controller" (above the USB Root Hub and USB Mass Storage Device in the Device Mgr hierarchy) are at File Version: 6.0.6002.18465(vistasp2_gdr.110505-037).
Since I noticed the recognition problems and interaction with WLAN, I have done some attempted repairs (1) downloaded the latest Toshiba realtek WLAN drivers "6.1162.0610 built by : Win DDK" (realtek_wlan_20100225.zip) - but it was failing before then. (2) I have also upgraded the BIOS to version 1.80. (3) The only other change I've made is to change the driver on the PCI bus from AMD (3GIO) Filter Driver to PCI Bus on advice from another forum.
When you say "remove the WLAN driver, reinstall the chipset driver and install the WLAN driver again" what exactly do you mean? EG in deveice manager - select WLAN - do uninstall ; what do you mean by chipset? - uninstall the Controller as well or some other device?

  • Emac will not recognize drives/disks

I have an emac. It will not load up properly. I have tried restarting with the recovery disk, but when the apple start up screen starts a message appears that tells me I must restart my computer. I restart by pressing the C key, but get the same result. I then start normally (which takes about 15 minutes), and the desktop screen appears normal....except the disk utility program does not recognize any hard drive, nor will the cd rom drive be recognized.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Try resetting the pram. Do this by holding down command/option/p/r simultaneously. Then restart the machine, and keep holding these 4 keys down until you hear 2 or 3 start up chimes. Then release them, and see if the problems go away.
If you can successfully get it started up and can open disk utility, repair permissions on your drive.

  • My iPod does not recognize USB cable?

I have three different USB cables for an iPod touch.  My iPod does not recognize any them when plugged into a computer or a wall charger.  What is wrong and can it be fixed?

    Does the iPod work?
Have you tried resetting the iPod.
Reset iPod touch:  Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Next would be to place the iPod in recovery mode and then try to restore via iTunes. For recovery mode:
iPhone and iPod touch: Unable to update or restore

  • Installer does not recognize installation disk on Macintosh

I am installing PhotoShop on my new Mac Mini (previously had CS5 on my MacPro). I've gotten all the way through the installation process to the point where it is asking for my "Adobe CS5 Web Premium" disk to be inserted. It is already inserted, but is not recognized. I've ejected and re-inserted the disk; I've re-booted; I've tried over and over again, but it is not "seeing" the disk, even though it's right there on my desktop. I can't get past that point.
I have successfully re-installed Acrobat Pro and Illustrator previously with no problems. I'm trying to install PhotoShop separately. Help.

You can try downloading the Suite and using the serial number from your disk to activate...

  • System does not recognize USB drive after Windows 7 reinstall

Not wanting Windows 8.1, I decided to install Windows 7.  I used Tuxboot to make a bootable USB stick drive to run GParted, which allowed me to repartition to the hard drive in NTFS, from which I was able to install my old copy of Windows 7 Home Premium from another USB stick drive.  I fully understand that I need to load in a bunch of drivers, and I downloaded them and put them on yet another USB stick drive.  The key here is that the BIOS properly recognizes when a bootable stick drive is attached.
So I am all ready to run the driver EXE files, but I need to somehow get those files onto the hard drive.  However, in Windows, the USB stick drive is not recognized!  And of course, the wireless modem is not recognized as well, so I am stuck as there is no way to get those driver EXE files onto the hard drive!  I tried using Tuxboot to run FreeDOS & Clonezilla, but I couldn't seem to get the job done (in FreeDOS, there only seemed to be the A: & C: drives, corresponding to the OS & stick drive, without there being a drive corresponding to the hard drive.)
I don't know what to do!

    Hi:
Download and install the AMD Chipset Drivers and reboot.
This set of drivers should install the smbus and usb 3 controllers.
