Not recognized as an administrator

I've spent the past 2 hours working on getting the finder to work (because of the DivXNetworks folder issue many people are having), and I've gotten the finder working now BUT I cannot edit any system preferences on any account on my machine.
When I click the lock to make changes on a system preferences section it asks for a password (which i enter correctly, and then says "You must type an administrator's name and password to make changes to System Preferences." This is my admin account on the machine, and my only admin account on the machine. What can i do to edit my system preferences when its telling me I'm not an admin?
Also, in the accounts pane it shows my admin account as "Standard" and other accounts as "Managed" which is what i think it showed with 10.4.
Also, after looking further into it, I can select my account and see that "Allow user to administer this computer" is unchecked. How can I fixed this?

  • CD not recognized without beeing Administrator

The CD player is only listed in iTunes when user has Administrator privileges. As a normal user, CD is not found. OS: Win 2000, SP4. Any idea?

Do you have some other mp3 player (Windows Media Player, WinAmp etc.) that's trying to be the default player? If so, try opening them and deselecting any file associations that they have. There might also be a checkbox that specifically tells it whether it should be the default player or not.

  • Win7 Ultimate Sole User Administrator Privileges Not Recognized for Automatic Windows Updates

I am a sole account/user (home-based and non-network) with system administrator privileges, except this status is not recognized under Windows Update > Change Settings > Important Updates. The option of selecting automatic updating
and an installation frequency/time is grayed out.  How do I fix?

    Hi KiDeb.
Did you have any changes prior this issue?
Could you confirm that Important Updates were installed before?
The possible solution could be this:
    Hold WindowsKey + R
    Type: “regedit”
    Hit Enter
    Go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate\AU
    Find AUOptions.
    Right Click Modify
You can change the values data from 1 through 5:
    1. Download updates but let me choose whether to install them
    2. Check for updates but let me choose whether to download and install them
    3. Download updates but let me choose whether to install them
    4. Install updates automatically / Never Check For Updates
    5. Enable the option box to choose manually
If this doesn't help, you can try this method, but make sure you backup the registry files as you are doing this step on your own and I am not responsible for the possible issue -
Backup registry files in Windows 7
    Click “Start” button.
    Select “Run”.
Type “regedit” without quotes in the Run window and hit Enter.
    Navigate to this location: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate\AU
In the right-pane, delete these two values “AUOptions” and “NoAutoUpdate”.
Then navigate to this location: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\WindowsUpdate
In the right-pane, delete the value “DisableWindowsUpdateAccess”.
Restart the computer and then try to change the Auto Update Settings.

  • Administrative Password Not Recognized After Clean Install

I had my hard drive replaced by Apple. They did install Mountain Lion. Fortunately I backed with Time Machine my data. When I started the computer for the first time I selected the option to transfer the data from a Time Machine back up. Everything went fine, registration was sent to Apple, logged into the wireless network etc. The last step asked me to log into my account, but the password is not recognized. I am sure of my password. There is nothing else I can do but restarting the computer. There is no option to go back at the beggining. I tried to boot to recovery partition ( by Holding down command r when the computer is off and reboot) so I can reset the admin password but it takes me again to the same screen where I have to put my password that is not recognized. I would really appreciate any help! Thanks

I'm not sure I fully understand which screen it is booting into, but it sounds like Apple's Genius may have already set up your computer with a Password, in which case I might try assuming that he left the "password" selection blank.  When the screen asks for your password, have you tried just hitting the "enter" key while leaving the box blank?  Failing that, i would probably suggest, I'm sorry to say, returning to the Store and having them diagnose what is wrong with THEIR installation of Mountain Lion.
    Hope this helps

I recently purchased a Nano 3rd generation that has no songs or any other type of media on it.  It does have a device name "user1". • Ipod Classic 160 GB not Recognized by Itunes

Itunes does not recognize my Classic Ipod 160 GB. I have tried all the suggestions offered by apple. Any advice?

I had the same problem with my iPod classic 80 GB. I spent an hour on the phone with Apple support this morning. It is interesting that I could still sync my iPhone and an older iPod, just not the Classic - so I suspected either a hardware or Mac software issue. The solution (I think) is that the permission in OS X for the device is not recognized. After restoring my iPod to factory settings, and completely deleting and reloading a new copy of iTunes, I am now able to get my Mac to recognize this iPod. Following the instructions found here:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.5/en/8342.html
I was able to add permission for the "administrator" to have read and write privileges on this device. That seems to have solved the problem. Thanks to Ryan at Apple Expert for the troubleshooting. Good luck!

  • 11.1.2 essbase upgrade not recognizing application files location

    Hi all
I am upgrading an essbase database (Planning) from 11.1.1.3 to 11.1.2.2,
I trying to configure 2 essbase servers (original 11.1.1.3 and new 11.1.2) running on 1 physical server using different ports and filesystems
Following all the steps in the Deployment guide in Preparing Essbase Data for Upgrading,
I ran all the steps in the Manual file transfer instructions to copy from source machine to target machine.
I have started the steps in rehosting the essbase applications,
    - Completed enable lookup by cluster name:
    - I completed the server to cluster script on the HSS box (updateEssbaseServer )
when i went to run EssbaseUpdateEssbaseServer one of the planning databases did not update i got this error
    [Mon May 21 14:03:50 2012]cphypd.sherwin.com///admin/Error(1002097)
    Unable to load database [PlanFcst]
Error loading application = 1002097, continue...
looking in the logs i found that it was trying to go to the prior location of the 11.1.1.3 instance and not the new location of the 11.1.2 instance
Why is it not recognizing the new datafile locations

I saw this in the guide
I followed these instructions and specified a different directory when running the staging tool, the script was empty, i do not believe it should be, it should contain mapping info to update essbase.sec, which it did not
On the Configure Essbase Server page, for Full path to application location (ARBORPATH), specify the location of the existing or replicated Essbase data.
    Note:
If you replicated data to a new machine, and if you selected Differently-named disk volumes, table spaces, or ARBORPATH on source and target or Consolidated disk volumes or tablespaces on target by exporting data during data replication, you must run a script immediately after configuring Essbase to update the Essbase security file to reflect the disk volumes on the upgraded system. The Essbase Staging Tool provides a script to update the settings in the security file (essbase.sec):
Start the Essbase Server and EPM System services. Navigate to ARBORPATH/app on the machine that is hosting the upgraded Essbase Server and run the following script using MaxL:
    %ARBORPATH%/bin/startMaxl.bat -u userName editagtsec.msh
where userName is the Administrator user name to connect to the upgraded Essbase server. The script prompts you to enter the password.
    Note:
editagtsec.msh could be empty in some scenarios. For example, when you launched the Staging Tool, the Staging Tool reports on existing volumes. If no volumes are listed, editagtsec.msh is empty.

  • 11.1.4.62 itunes update not recognizing ipod touch

Please Help.  Did the update to Windows 8.1 yesterday and now iTunes does not recognize my iPod(s) etc.  I looked in Windows and device shows up but now in iTunes.  I downloaded the new iTunes and reinstalled (Repair) and that did not help.  Anyone have any suggestions at all?

See section 5 of TS1538: iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows.
If that doesn't help it may pay to tear down and reinstall iTunes in the following manner...
Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall press on)
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.
    Please note:
Some users may need to follow all the steps in whichever of the following support documents applies to their system. These include some additional manual file and folder deletions not mentioned above.

  • USB Device Not Recognized issues

I have a Qosmio X505-Q860 and I've been getting the 'USB Device Not Recognized' error constantly for several months. I've never plugged anything into any of my USBs and the error is now causing a nice Blue Screen (which happened about 4 times yesterday within 1 hour). I've tried uninstalling the problem USB hub but it keeps telling me that it failed to uninstall (I'm on my administrator account when doing this). How in the world do I get rid of this so my computer stops crashing and driving me crazy!?
Edit: I should also mention that everything is up to date (I check often and checked just now).
"A stopped clock is still right twice a day."

I suggest trying another USB cable. If you are positive that your cable is not the issue then try resetting the iPod and booting into disk mode (Hold menu+select down until Apple logo appears. Then hold menu+play/pause down and the iPod will go into disk mode, see if the computer recognizes it then. If that works then their is either a software issue on the computer or a firmware issue. Worth trying to restore but backup all your iPod's files first!

  • IPhone 4s not recognized by MacBook Pro nor iTunes

I am currently running iOS 6.0.1 on my iPhone 4s and OS X 10.9.4 on my MacBook Pro Retina Late 2012. I recently reformatted my computer by means of a bootable OSX installer and I did a completely clean install. For some reason, my iPhone is able to charge, but not recognized by my computer nor iTunes at all. Nothing comes up.
I have followed the directions in the following:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1591?viewlocale=en_US
    and
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/24169239#24169239#24169239
Neither solution seems to be working. I have done the following:
    reinstalled my iTunes multiple times
reset my networking on my iPhone a few times
    restarted my computer
    updated all my software
checked to make sure USB cables work
    tried multiple iPhone charging cables
I'd greatly appreciate some guidance in regards to this. Thanks!

When you say a bootable OS X installer where did you get the installer?  Is it one you created yourself?
You might want to try restarting the MacBook Air holding the Command and R keys.  From Utilities on the menu bar, choose Install Mac OS X.  That will reinstall using an installer from Apple.  Install and see if that changes the behavior.
I did the following from this website:
    http://www.macworld.com/article/2056561/how-to-make-a-bootable-mavericks-install -drive.html
    Option 1: Use createinstallmedia
Hidden inside the Mavericks installer is a Unix program calledcreateinstallmedia, provided by Apple for creating a bootable Mavericks installer. If you’re comfortable using Terminal, it’s a relatively simple tool to use. The program assumes your account has administrator privileges.
Note: This method does not work in Snow Leopard. It works only in Lion, Mountain Lion, or Mavericks. (The resulting installer drive will let you install Mavericks over Snow Leopard, but you can’t create the installer drive while booted into Snow Leopard.) If you need to create a Mavericks install drive while booted into Snow Leopard, you should use the Disk Utility instructions, below.
Download the Mavericks installer from the Mac App Store and make sure it’s in your main Applications folder. (This means that if you followed my advice to move the installer out of your Applications folder, you’ll have to move it back, at least temporarily. The Terminal command I’m using here assumes the installer is in its default location.)
Connect to your Mac a properly formatted 8GB (or larger) drive. Rename the drive to Untitled. (The Terminal command used here assumes the drive is named Untitled.)
    Select the text of this Terminal command and copy it:sudo /Applications/Install\ OS\ X\ Mavericks.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia --volume /Volumes/Untitled --applicationpath /Applications/Install\ OS\ X\ Mavericks.app --nointeraction
    Launch Terminal (in /Applications/Utilities).
Paste the copied command into Terminal and press Return. Warning: This step will erase the destination drive or partition, so make sure it doesn’t contain any valuable data.
Enter your admin-level account password when prompted.
The Terminal window displays the progress of the process, in a very Terminal sort of way, by displaying a textual representation of a progress bar: Erasing Disk: 0%... 10%...20%... and so on. The program then tells you it’s copying the installer files, making the disk bootable, and copying boot files. Wait until you see the text Copy Complete. Done. (see the screenshot below), which could take as long as 20 or 30 minutes, depending on how fast your Mac can copy data to your destination drive.
You now have a bootable Mavericks-install drive.

  • Itunes not recognizing my devices after installing 11.1.4

As per itunes message to update to latest version, I updated to 11.1.4 on my PC. I'm running windows 8.1, 64 bit. After updating and restarting computer, itunes will not recognize any of my devices. iphone4s, ipod touch 5g, ipod touch 4g. The devices "are" recognized on the computer when plugged in via usb. I guess this would indicate that the usb cables and the drivers are good.
All of my itunes libraries for the associated devices open up just fine. All of the contents are in tact. It's just that the device is not recognized in itunes when opened. Any suggestions would be much appeciated.

    Windows 8.1, 64bit
It appears that the 64bit install messed up the device drivers for the Apple mobilie devices connecting as USB.
I tried many things, I may have missed a step below.  But the following is what I believe was the fix - since it worked on a 2nd PC.
Make sure you are using an administrator account.  Any of them on your machine will do for the following
    a) Get Windows to restart the drivers:
        - disconnect your USB device and close ITunes
        - connect your USB device
        - if ITunes loads, close it.
    b) File explorer:
Open File explorer and browse to
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers
In that folder there should be a set of files named "usbaapl64...."
right click on the one ending in "INF"
    Select Install.  It's very quick.
    remove the USB device
    c) Restart the computer.
When you login again, load ITunes before you attach your USB device.

  • New-MaiboxRestoreRequest is not recognized as the name of a cmdlet, function, script ?

I have restored successfully an exchange 2013 mailbox database from backup to the recovery database, but when i try to recover a user's mailbox I receive the following error
New-MaiboxRestoreRequest -SourceDatabase RDB1 -SourceStoreMailbox "testuser" -TargetMailbox [email protected]
The term 'New-MaiboxRestoreRequest' is not recognized as the name of a cmdlet, function,
script file, or operable program. Check the spelling of the name, or if a path was included, verify that the path is correct and try again.
I already have the "mailbox import export" management role assigned to the logged in administrator.
