Not recognized by computer...not powering up at all

Just purchased this nano. It won't power up at all when plugged in. Tried leaving it that way for hours with no change. Computer doesn't recognize it at all either. I installed and reinstalled the software...downloaded updates...tried reset. still nothing.
Am I doing something wrong?

If your pc can't detect your iPod anywhere in the system (My Computer/systems manager)try other usb ports-ones that have already had something plugged in so you'll know they work.
You've rebooted to see if your pc recognises it plugged into your pc?
If all fails try returning it to the store-you could have a dodgey one?
I know XP should recognise it so if you're still using win '98 you will have problems.
Sorry if this isnt helpful-I'm not a techy by anymeans but have had problems with things before and am pc literate-only trying to help.

  • Problems with MBP - first HDD, then battery, now not powering on at all

My MBP is just over a year old (though I think the model itself may be from 2010; I bought it on clearance from a Best Buy).A couple of days ago it started behaving oddly - freezing constantly, then more and more to the point where I had to just shut it off. During one of these episodes, it came back with the flashing question mark folder. I chalked it up to the HDD failing and had Geek Squad replace it, though that in itself was an ordeal because the computer would not read any of the HDDs we tried. Finally found one it did read today, and I thought the problem was solved, until I brought it home.
The magsafe LED was green but not charging the battery. So I tried resetting the PRAM; nothing. Tried resetting the SMC and turned the computer back on. It came on (very slowly), and then turned off by itself. Now it's not booting on at all. For awhile the LED kept flashing between green and orange, now it's just green, but still will not turn on no matter what I do.
I don't really know what to do now. There isn't an Apple store near me, and the Geek Squad I took it to doesn't have an Apple section, either. I'm moving 18 hours away in 10 days, and I really need it working by then. But, I'm assuming the logic board is fried...

Figured so. I'm also wondering if it could be something as benign as the battery being dead? But considering all of this happened starting with the HDD, probably not. How much does a logic board replacement run, anyway?

  • Macbook Pro 13 not powering up at all. Totally dead

I plugged in a mobile battery power station to charge today, http://www.iwantoneofthose.com/gift-tech-stuff/portable-iphone-charger/30001820. html
and my Macbook pro 13 suddenly died. It will not turn on via the power button, there's no lights on the battery indicator on the side of the Macbook and nothing at all on the power adapter. I've checked the fuse in the plug and thats ok. Are there any internal fuses that could have blown in both the macbook and the power supply. I charged it before with no problems. Been through lots of these solution pages, but i'm totally stuck

Well simple the battery in your Mac ran out of power. When that happens, which is really bad for the battery, sometime you must let the battery charge for X amount of time before the system will turn on. All Macs use both battery power and AC power at the same time even when the AC adapter is connected and the battery charge reaches 100%.
So if the battery is fully drained the system will not turn on. Stop using the portable charger unit you have 100% charge of the internal battery.

  • Dv7-1025nr not powering up

My laptop does not power up at all.  I removed the battery, and unplugged the power adapter, held down the power button for 30 seconds to drain any build up.  Then I plugged in the power adapter (only the power adapter, NO battery), and pressed the power up button to turn the laptop on, but nothing powers up at all..NO lights or LED's come on.  Only light that glows when I plug in the power adapter, is the small light near the power input hole where the adapter connects to the laptop.
I replaced my power adapter with a brand new one (original equipment) and the same thing happens.
What is the next step in troubleshooting this problem?

    Hi there @gd2554,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums! It is a great place to find the help you need, both from other users, HP experts and other support personnel.
I understand that your notebook is not powering up at all, and that you have replaced the power adapter with a new one. I am happy to help.
Are you connected directly to a wall outlet or going through a power bar?  If possible use a direct power connection.
Next, if you haven't already, try using a different power outlet entirely.
Did you replace the entire power adapter including the power cord (assuming it is one of the adapter with a brick and a removable cord going to the wall outlet? Be sure to use the replacement cord as well, if you haven't already.
Then try going through all of the following:
Computer Does not Start (Windows 7, Vista, XP)
Battery Charging Is Not Indicated in Vista or Charging LED Does Not Turn On
If there is no sign of life then it is likely the issue is on the main board of the notebook itself, in which case, I would recommend, calling our technical support at 800-474-6836. If you live outside the US/Canada Region, please click the link below to get the support number for your region.

  • Tx1000 not powering up !!!

HP Tx1000 totally failed....not powering up at all anymore....Seems like the settlement between HP and NVidia  only applies to US residents.......is there anything Canadian customers can do?

Unfortunately that hasn't worked. I bought a new battery just in case (which is why it's taken so long to reply). I'm scared of pressing the PMU button again.  I guess I'll have to see if Apple can figure out what's wrong.
    Thanks for the replay Tom.

  • Ideapad u310 is not powering up - all lights are blinking

Hi, i got a u310 that is not starting. Not only not booting, but not powering up at all. Plugged or unplugged the result is the same. All lights are blinking when i press the power or novo button(power button, power led, battery led and caps lock light, all white). They all blink together each 5 seconds and i hear a small click, like it's trying to power on or something. I can however press the power button again for a couple of seconds to turn it off.
The battery led blinks only when it is unplugged. When it is plugged, the battery light stay on(solid, white).
Anyone can help ? I've looked through the forum and could'nt find anything about this.
    Thanks in advance

    1. Remove any peripherals connected to the laptop.
    2. Remove any power strips and surge protectors.
    3. Remove the battery.
    4. Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.
    5. Install the battery back and try to power ON.
    6. Connect the charger and try to power ON.

  • IPOD Shuffle not recognized by computer, and caused a  USB power surge

Device is not recognized by computer, and I tried the listed support recommendations.
The problem originated when I plugged the IPOD shuffle directly into the computer USB ( not using a hub), and this caused a warning window to appear saying unknown device has caused a power surge to this port, and most be removed. Prior to this event, the IPOD shuffle has worked (with direct contact with computer usb or through a powered highspeed usb hub) without issue for nearly 1 year. Any taker's on this issue? Thanks.

    Hi JBR,
Go to your control panel and click on Install/Uninstall programs. Scroll down and see if you have multiple versions of the ipod updater installed on your computer. If you do, then uninstall both versions. Reboot your computer.
Next, go to the downloads page and download/install the 1-10-2006 ipod updater. Once installed, go to your start programs and select ipod updater from there. Plug in your ipod and wait a moment. If it's like mine, it'll recognize your ipod and then you can do a "restore" for a clean format.
After that, open itunes and life should be good.
    Hope this helps!

after you have checked everything is okay, you can do the next step, that is install the Desktop Manager.
Moreover, ou can wipe your device so that there is no remains from the previous owner.
